As a teenager who loves cars, this video broke my heart. I was like, damn, used cars are becoming more expensive than even brand new cars. Even Corvettes (my absolute favorite American car) are having this issue. I fear that my generation may very well be the last generation that loves cars, I don't want that to happen. What about my kid (in the future)?
Lmao it was the same here in Hungary for Suzuki Swifts (the Geo Metro in the US). They manufactured a lot of them in a town called Esztergom, and there are an insane amount still on the roads. Their engines are unlike anything else, they’re so reliable some people are putting turbo kits on them doubling their horsepower with the factory engine and they are just chuggling along (there’s a guy I know who trackdays his turbo swift with an unopened head and the car has been going for 2 years now). Anyway, you could buy one a few years ago for like 50.000 HUFs (or about ~$170-$180) and the registration and first insurance payment would cost more than that
@@jerkopatrik I drove a Geo Metro for deliveries years ago. It was one of the worst cars I ever drove in my life. The only good thing about it was the 5 speed. The bad was the syncros suck balls in it. It arrived at the fate of a blown motor and a half working trans luckily it wasn't mine but it might as well have been since I constantly had to care for it for work. Everything around it fell apart at a faster rate. Even my old 00 Elantra wagon rates far above it (miss that car, some broad head on it a few years ago) was better at everything including gas and it was warm in the winter lol. My buddy at the time did have the Swift and it was a better car but I had my Celica and that stomped all of those and was pretty similar economy. He did a turbo kit in it as well but it blew trying to race a Golf of the time. So that car was gone too. He liked it but also said it was junk too. Body was cherry mint so he was able to sell it with the blown motor. I knew a few in school that had some Metros but the fuel mileage was the only thing to write home about though lol. That's my little experience with them.

@WomenHateShortMen I’ve legit been driving a 2010 focus I paid $500 for for like 3 years…it’s now having power steering issues but it was actually a really go running reliable car up until now….now that used cars are apparently $30,000….these prices are a joke
TAKE YOUR MONEY COME TO ARGENTINa OR OTHER SHIT COUNTRY... buy the car, nice super cool working.. and shipping to USA... pay the taxes.. after all of that, you are saving half of your money.
Friend of mine had one of those Accords and ADORED that car. In 2010 his wife wrecked it and she called his mother in hysterics, sure that he was divorcing her. She had his mom call him to break the news. He took it well, but as a joke he had her luggage on the porch when she got home. 🙂
@@GoodBoi1503 Before he met his wife, he was taking a girl out to dinner in the Accord. On the way, she kicked off her shoes and propped her feet on the dash. He immediately pulled over and left the girl by the side of the road. So we all understood his wife's apprehension.
"low mileage is not always a good thing"... I'm glad somebody finally said it. Car prices today are crazy. Seen 15-20 yr old trucks with 200k on the odometer and people got them up for $20k or more. You're crazy. Are you really betting $20k that the previous owner(s) kept up on the maintenance? You know those motors are most likely on their last leg. People are nuts.
A clean OBS 7.3 Powerstroke will get $20k with 200k on the clock. With how they're going right now, I could probably get pretty close to that for mine and it has 308k. The market is ridiculous right now.
@@amorton94 don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not happening or that people shouldn't strike while it's hot. It's definitely a seller's market. But as someone who almost never sells any of my vehicles and likes to peruse for the next vehicle I just can't live without, there's just no chance in Hell I'm throwing that kind of money at a truck/car and it's gonna make it a year without leaving me on the side of the road with a blown motor or tranny, that's what I expect from $2k junkers not a $30k junker. I was just looking at a specific vehicle this morning and used ones up to 4 years old under a 100k miles were listed on par with brand new zero mile ones. Personally if I'm blowing that kind of money, might as well take the extra $5k hit and get the spanky with a full warranty.
As much as I love my obs, I'm considering selling it because people are paying STUPID high prices for them rn, just five years ago they were the trucks you could find anywhere for a thousand dollars
@@Chocoltz Toyotas can be exceptionally reliable for hundreds of thousands of miles, especially the ones manufactured in Japan or even Canada. I would never put my trust in a 250k mile US one though for any kind of money. But when that being said, you still don't know how well it's been taken care of by the previous owner(s). It might've not seen an oil change that whole time. That's a lot to gamble on. No thanks.
These aren't typical prices. They are purposely finding listing that had cars sold at ridiculous prices. Notice most of these are old, low mileage, and in good shape. Only certain kinds of folks are buying these, either because they are a fan of the brand, or more likely, nostalgia.
@@ajspice true but there arent a bunch of old toyotas for $1000 available like there used to be. everything that is available is overpriced and everything else was scrapped years ago. why do you think the younger generation is all riding scooters instead of driving cars?
My buddy in highschool had an '89 6000 LE, we were cruising around the dirt roads in the winter when he says 'watch this!' and starts swerving violently. He put the car in the ditch about 15 seconds later, but the car managed to pull itself back out, and he knew it would. I never doubted the 6000 after that. ...man the 90s were fun lol
My first car in high school was a 1986 Grand Wagoneer. It cost $7000 and it blew a head gasket every few months. Electric roll down rear window, moon roof, fake wood paneling and a sweet cassette deck. I saw one recently sell for $55000. I just about shat my britches.
Nostalgia shoots the value of old cars to the moon. 90’s to mid 2000’s vehicles are starting to reflect this. Especially as certain age demographics finally have money. This is exactly what happened with muscle cars. They were dirt cheap then started to moon.
Dennis Collins from Fast n Loud, has his own channel and you should check out the HELLWAGON. A restored Grand Wagoneer with the Hellcat motor! ua-cam.com/video/bk0lxLzOVpw/v-deo.html
In 2001 I was driving a 1979 2 door diesel land cruiser. I was pulled over by a cop. He walks up to the window and tells me that I had not done anything wrong and proceeds by offering me 13k for it. I had paid 500$ for it and put about 200$ into it. I asked when he was off his shift and gave him my address. It had 400,000 km on it but was in great shape. Leather interior and air ride seats. I somewhat regret selling it but that money went to paying off some bills and a few lift tickets.
He was a super nice person unlike a few of the RCMP in the area that were criminals. The way I saw it was that he was a car person and it was going to a good home.
This was a great video but I gotta say that this makes me SO sad for the younger generation of car enthusiasts and really, all car enthusiasts. The car market is truly disgusting right now. The crazy part is that it may get even worse.
its really showing how fragile and imaginary the economy is. people like to irrationally defend the free market as if its some magical infallible force that can do no wrong, but the truth is, money and value are imaginary concepts that are fully subject to human bullshit. and i legit think that these ridiculous prices are gonna be the real killer of car culture. its not evs its not regulations, its the fact that it is so financially hard to own a car.
If you fear for the younger generation of car enthusiasts, fear for the youth in general as late stage capitalism continues to collapse and the environment inches closer to unlivable conditions - the used car market is not exclusive in its falling apart
@@AbsurdAsparagus to be fair, this human bullshit you speak of is the act of governments printing money like the sky is falling. like everything else markets are unfortunately effected by pandemics and government sillyness. massive inflation + aggressive (greedy) supply chains + overdesigned (electronics) cars + stupid people = big $$$$ problems
As someone who currently can't travel anywhere out of the town I live in because my current car is too broken down, I am incredibly angry at the current state of the used car market. It's been like this for at least a year, and it's only getting worse.
It's fucking infuriating. I have okay credit, and not a lot of income, so finding something that isn't garbage, either private or from a dealer, is really hard. My Integra is on its last legs, it's getting worse every day, I don't know if I can fix it when it finally dies. Normally, I'd look for a decent deal, find something suitable, reach out and lock it down, sell the Integra, and go pick up the new car. Now, it's nearly impossible to find anything that isn't complete trash for a decent price, so I'm kinda screwed.
Toyota Corolla 9th Gen. Either Type S or LE or even Ce... They just. Never die. Unless you don't know Jack shizz about maintenance and you starve it out of oil which even then they won't die lmao
THIS is one of my favorite videos you guys have done. Watching Jerry’s reactions to the insanity that is the used car market was epic. Please please please make this a series.
You guys are literally the only ones that have commercials I want to rewind and watch again! I love all the little accents, different sketches, and now 80yr old makeup!
As an owner of a square-headlight 84 Rabbit, they definitely get an insane amount of attention. Lots of people over 40 comes up to you to tell you stories about experiences they had with Rabbits back in the day, and it stands out so much in modern traffic. Finding parts is quite difficult though, and even fairly beat up examples will still sell for $3-4k
I paid $300 for mine. Doubt I can get nearly that much back for it with all the stuff I've done to it. over 330k miles, black front fenders because the old ones were dented, black hood and spoiler because I wanted it, 4" exhaust because you're basically in a clown car compared to everything else on the road so you better make yourself noticed, and custom projector headlights because I wanted to run HIDs but want to keep the glass housing. And the paint has faded, clear coat is peeling and rust is starting to appear in small areas.
@@dekoldrick if the body was still in good shape u could’ve just dropped another f22 in it then painted it but honestly most of them aren’t worth doing all that to unless it has sentimental value and you plan on keeping it because you won’t get nothing back for the amount of work that was done to it
@UCq3r_juQW24uBBWuKwinVRA I bought it as a daily after my old 93 got totaled so the cosmetic stuff are things I can work on as I go along. I plan to eventually get it painted and looking like a decent car again.
I bought a civic type r late last year. Found out I was having my first kid a little earlier this year, and needed something more sensible to DD for the wife. I sold it to a local dealer for $6k MORE than what I bought it for. I only put 400 miles on it, but still. I got all my money back and made $6k. I wish I could have kept it, but oh well.
I've been looking for used 4runner and have lost my mind on some of the asking prices for a regular decent one! I ended up buying buying a clean R51 Pathfinder SE off-road model due to snapping it up at a reasonable price. Imagine the fed inflation number if they included car and house prices. They deliberately omitted them this year because they were "too unusual"?
They literally omit just about anything they can so they can report the lowest possible number lmao. Trying to convince everyone that what they see around them every day is a lie.
The 4Runner is a great vehicle, I picked up a 2020 Limited this year (and my back still hurts!) before used prices started going crazy and I love it. But when I bought it, the Toyota salesman I was with said they just paid $37,500 Canadian (aboot $30,000USD) for a 2008 with something like 250,000km. I think not having a passenger-side compartment is the deal killer for me. The owners manual, car registration, and insurance card need a home.
I think some people also enjoy the sheer SIMPLICITY of old vehicles when it comes to repairs, especially when it comes to the right-to-repair topics. You throw in a scarcely of new vehicles and you got the perfect storm.
Doug's website for the first time in another channel I already said when Donut did the ad for the Kona N, that they have come a long way... Being sponsored by a literal major car company.... And their ads are much cooler than the OEM ads... Just because our favorite people are there in it.... And I feel like buying it
Re: that Yugo at 5:56. The Yugo was first released in the US when I was a teenager, and about ready to drive and needing a car of my own, so my Mom and I were doing research on this relatively affordable yet brand-new car. I remember reading *multiple* articles in several different car magazines which basically all said the same thing -- "you're better off buying a used car - *ANY* used car you can get for the same money - than you are buying this thing." LOL!
I'm shocked. I wish I could go back in time and buy these cars either new or used when they were fully depreciated. Better than real estate or stocks. And where are people getting the money to pay these insane prices?
Because inflation is so bad people are putting their money into physical items. They claim 8.5% but when energy prices double or triple, many food items up 25% or more, housing up 25-50% I think you could safely double whatever they claim and it would be much more accurate.
@@Nick-sx6jm No, not double... At least triple. Real estate gained 100%-200% in rural areas, gas 100%, lumbar 500%, renovations labor\other materials up to 300%, shipping containers 400%, etc. Food in the supermarket isn't a huge expense like others, but they are making it about 90% of the portion to calculate inflation.
I remember wanting a Geo for my first car because it was cheap on gas. No one and I mean absolutely no one would sell it for less than $10k and that was like 8-9 years ago! They all had like 100k miles and weren't well maintained but man, people don't want to let them go.
I bought my 99 Cobra in the picture in early ‘19. I only drive it in the summer and therefore it doesn’t get daily-d and have a million miles. I would say, because of the recent interest in this body style and the used market jump, it almost doubled in value in the last two years. The problem being, if I sold it to buy something else, that vehicle also would be twice as expensive as it was previously. The exact same thing could be said about my buying of a home, 70k in equity in two years, but if I sell to upgrade I’m going to pay double on a larger house than two years ago. So it hasn’t become a great time to flip on any of these. It has only become a blessing to have made the right decision previous to the market explosion and to not have to get into ownership when it’s high. I couldn’t imagine having waited and trying to buy my first home now. I feel very sorry for those renting and trying to move up this year, and I mean that in the nicest way. It would be a very hard obstacle to overcome, knowing that less money bought much nicer things two or three years ago.
Trust me brother it sucks, I'm only twenty right now and my desire to get out of the house and start a family is essentially on pause until things either go back to a somewhat recognizable level of normalcy or I win the lottery
3:43 In 1987, I bought a Vulva grocery getter for my brother. I paid $500 for it. It had a standard transmission. I don't remember if it was a 4 or 5 speed.
I love how you guys put what they SOLD for and not what price people were asking for. People can ask for any price they want so it doesn’t mean the car will be bought for it.
$18,000 for the Metro. People are nostalgic for old cars, especially ones they've owned. My First car was an 92 Accord and I loved that car. First Car that I bought with my own money though was an 91 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. I'd gladly buy either one again depending on their price (and if there was still an aftermarket for them)
I had the exact same version of the first car, the green accord. Surprisingly comfortable and extremely reliable. Mine was stolen and recovered three times, until the last time I wasn't able to recover it.
It’s always funny to see stuff that was cool for it’s affordability and reliability become unobtainable garage queens that no one would ever want to actually put miles on. This is also what happens in every market not just cars. Old japanese made ibanez and vintage ampeg is going up in price and it used to be dirt cheap. 90s warwicks have doubled in price just in the last 5 years.
I just love that they're getting Hyundai sponsorship and there's zero change in the content or style. The only difference is that Jerry's old man make-up has significantly improved over the Keeps ads.
If you guys made this a series it could be a lot of fun, had me guessing along at home! Also great work for the Hyundai Elantra N ad, definitely got me thinking about getting one if they come to the ANZ market
I lived and died in my 1992 Honda accord EX, that thing was a tank, I miss that car and those days and nights. Great video guys, I weep for the used car market now, it's gone insane.

I owned a 93’ Geo Metro with90k miles back in 2012, and I always felt like I was flinstoning that car. My dad and I swapped the 12” wheels to 14’s and the top speed we could do in that car was a crisp 55 mph. 😂😭 it’s funny because I had finally gotten a new car and the guys I sold it to told me that they wanted to buy the car to prepare it for the zombie apocalypse. 💀💀
That Geo Metro is exactly like my mom's but hers was a 93. I loved driving that car. You sat low to the ground and with such small wheels and a low final weight you felt like you were going faster than you were. But it was so fun to drive that five speed.
My grandma let me borrow her Geo Metro in high school when my car completely failed on me. The lack of power steer made that car better. You felt absolutely everything and the visceral connection to the road is something I have never felt since. Every input meant something. Lots of fun.
I drove a 93 Suzuki Swift for nearly 20 years. I bought it for $300 when I was 17, blew it up a couple years later, slapped in a junkyard engine, blew that one up too, rebuilt it and turbocharged it. I absolutely loved that car, and in 20 years I bet I had less than $2500 into it.

It was already rusting but I worked for BMW at the time and super glued a M/// badge to that beauty. Best years of my life until a bad pothole took her down. Maybe that's why I want to learn to weld so much these days hah.. Ugh
Bradley O, I had 4 Metro Convertibles, 1990-1993 models, in Northern California. Rust is not a problem here. I bought a $100 one that had a smashed in front end. I actually cut the front end off a stripped red Metro in a wrecking yard by using a hack saw blade wrapped in a rag. No power tools allowed so it took 4 hours. I welded it back on the wrecked white car. It can be seen in the attached video. I painted the car rattle can silver, added an AC unit. I built a fiberglass/epoxy removable hard top for it with 300ZX moon roof and Pontiac Sunbird rear heated glass. It looks pretty good. Then for grins I installed a little 3 cylinder Kubota 905 diesel engine in it. Going from 54 horsepower to 24 horses is not advisable but it would do 63 mph on the flat before the governor kicked in. The State refused to relicense it, so it sits behind the house ready for the Zombie apocalypse. I made the adapters to mate it to the 5 speed and used a Swift flywheel and clutch, didn't cut any wires or make permanent mods so the gas engine can be dropped in easily. I read that all Metro Convertibles were built at the Hiroshima plant. Payback, maybe. I like the BMW badge. ua-cam.com/video/hnAOF1bOSB8/v-deo.html

Instead or hoarding cars and nlowong their money. They invested in stocks, real-estate & Crypto.
Because inflation is so bad people are putting their money into physical items. They claim 8.5% but when energy prices double or triple, many food items up 25% or more, housing up 25-50% I think you could safely double whatever they claim and it would be much more accurate.
You answered your own question... Crypto\stocks

Food in the supermarket isn't a huge expense like others, but they are making it about 90% of the portion to calculate inflation.

Most vintage cars too, don't cost this much! Crazy.

Bradley O here's another view of the Metro. I started it in October 2021 after removing a ton of ivy vines from under the hood.

Jerry’s reaction and slight anger to the Landcruiser’s Toyota Tax honestly really surprised me. Those things go for that much bloody money, even with hundreds of thousands of miles. It’s nuts.
i still hate ads but seeing ads like this and more people i care about is amazing
@1:21 I love the fact that cc hears "thick ass" when he says "tuccus" 🤣😂
As a 16 year old, I really hope there's gonna be something I can afford once I get older.
Even the car in your profile is still cheap. They’re just showing off anomalies. Don’t worry bud
You'll be alright. They're just stupid expensive right now because new cars arent being made fast enough. Simple supply chain issues
That Yugo might still be affordable lol
maybe a bicycle x)
Just get a bigger loan
I've been driving Hyundais for about 7 years now, and love them, then earlier this year I found Donut and love them. Now Hyundai has found Donut and seems to love them. Everything is right in the universe.
Really, I hate are Hyundai! It's a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. Only has 20,000 miles on it. But no power, has a small miss but they can't find where it is coming from. We are going to trade it in and stay away from Hyundai. Know two people that have problems out of there's as well. Probably go for Honda or Toyota. But we really like that new Chevy trailblazer. Just not sure about that little motor in it
It's also bad that my 2008 dodge caliper SRT4 is faster than a 2021 Hyundai Veloster N! That's sad!
@@martybrowning6702 Really? The first Hyundai I had was a 2016 Veloster Turbo 6 speed and it was flawless, thing was a rocket.
@@martybrowning6702 No power comes stock on Hyundai's so not sure what your complaining about. A stock truck would be faster, sound better, and look better tbh.
Back in high school my friend had a 93 Metro. He got it in 96. The sidewalks at are school were a bit larger then average. We wold drive on them when school was out. It was a fun little car. Those were good times
This was great! My buddies and I play this game on sundays... watching the live bids on cars an hour before it goes live!
I own a Honda Accord EX and here in bangladesh, it's very rare to see these days. And it's price inflated like crazy. But the transmission and driving quality still feels cool and fast. Thinking of modifying it. I just love my Accord EX ❤️
Keep it stock and maintain it. There aren’t many honest ones left, don’t reduce that number.
i work at a honda dealer and we have one of the limited yellow type r's and they have it listed for 85k so i really wasnt surprised by the fact that one sold for that much
I really love when donut make a commercial. it's like my kind of commerical that i wanted to watch on TV when it's commercial time. love you donut gang💛
Always a good day when donut posts. This might be one of might favorite ads you guys have done as well.
I was about to buy an IMMACULATE 1995 Z/28 6 speed t top for $5500 until the seller took an offer from a dealership for $12000. Shit's really has been outta hand.
Pretty sure this is happening everywhere :(. Here in Norway there's used Volvo for sale for 36k.. A freaking 744 costs more than the SPONSORED CAR IN THIS VIDEO
the comedy in this channel is the best in youtube land!
Many of these auctions the buyer and sellers know each other and have already pre determined the price to drive up the market
Should be illegal since its straight up rigging.
I love how James wins the third point but they give it to Jerry
LOL they fixed it by giving the last point that Jerry earned to James
I think it was "closest without going over" scoring. like the price is right.
0:31 price is right rules. Can't go over. Seen like 10 comments to this effect so far
I've been looking to get a new used car for awhile now. It's so hard to find a reliable car with decent gas mileage, in a manual transmission, at almost any price.
Those ads should be their own videos, they’re so good and well done
I think some of these are explained by "this is an old car that is in good enough condition to drop into a movie". Like the Rabbit and the Land Cruiser.
I was thinking 5k for the geo metro than Jerry said "think of a price and go higher" I tripled guessed 15k and was close
Same on 15k
3:54 that number plate is straight out of november
Remembering when used 90’s Japanese sports cars were so cheap, and I was still super worried when buying them as many were worn out, I can’t justify buying one now. They didn’t get better they only got more worn out and more expensive.
way back when a local dealer was giving away a pair of Yugos to one "lucky" winner. The joke was that he gave away 2 so you would have a spare parts car.
Love seeing the 1991 accord (cb7) right out of the gate, I love my five speed coupe such a fun car. I was amazed to see it going for 21k tho.
DONUT!! Watching and guessing with you guys was soo much fun! More videos just like this would be awesome. My guess on the Metro....$20K.
That is one of the best car ads I've ever seen - honestly that should play on TV
I love my Geo Metro, one of the favorite cars I've owned. It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car fast. Lower it and it's a go-kart on rails.
Same here, favorite cars I own. So much so I have them in a few different colors and body types ha ha.
I've seen quite a few Geo Metros lately. I'd never actually seen one until a month or two ago. Looks like it could be fun, though I'd personally prefer a slightly bigger engine.
Hey Rob, we should lift your metro and put 35s on it. What do ya say
Love how james gets so excited about VW’s like a German scientist
8:28 put the euro circle lights on and I’ll pay anything for it
13:00 1) if you are gonna build a geo metro on your show, hit me up, i made the world's most heavily modified pizza delivery geo once upon a time lol. 2) that's actually less that I thought it'd go for. i haven't seen one that wasn't past 200k miles with 25% of it's body mass lost to rust, so that is probably the far and away cleanest geo metro in the world lol
