Sterling Forest 3/10 of a mile & 26 BD’s..

Sterling Forest 17.6.2024-
With Bri and Nick as the maintainers of this section of the Fire tower trail and relatively new swampers, we set out to clear more BD damage from the May 23, 2024 storm.
Nick had attempted to scout the trail prior to our trip but the conditions made that difficult at best. He was unable to scout the entire section but estimated 2-3 dozen BD’s in the section he did scout.
Heat was a factor with temperatures expected to reach ~90°(32°C). With that in mind, we set out at 07:30 and very quickly came upon the first BD.
The trail was essentially impassable in many locations and we decided to leave some larger single stem BD’s in an effort to get more trail open.
In total, we cleared 26 trees over 3/10’s of a mile (.5 km) leaving 3 larger trees along the way. The heat took its toll and we ended the day after 5 hours.
On our way out, we encountered hikers already taking advantage of the newly cleared trail…
