Coach Toth at it again with to quality learning content. I can't thank you enough. I've had the pleasure of playing you on twitch before even with my sad elo. I learned much from it and took the high energy with me for weeks. Thanks!
May I add another compliment: I've come across your Channel around 2yrs ago and started playing serious OTB Games again just this year. I'm super enthusiastic right now, because as a 1500ish Player I've just beaten my second 1900 rated opponent in under a month today. 🥳🥳 Let's Just say, that your Amateurs Mind series and teaching videos in general are probably the biggest positive influence in my strength gains :))
Bro if I saw you at the Petrol station, I would give you a big hug. It would be the least I could do for what you've done for my game & entertainment. Hikaru nailed it when he said your content is some of the best on the internet. The Chico's and Chica's love you man. I see a lot more recognition in your future.
I was struggling to have good tournament results before I found your videos, since then I’ve gotten first place twice in tournaments for my section and the biggest thing helping me is this principle you speak of over and over. Calculate evaluate and life is much easier. Thanks Coach keep up the amazing work.
The way I found to remove “feelings” from my decision making was to find the move I want to play relatively quickly and then spend my time trying to tear it down as if I am my opponent. If I cannot do so and nothing better occurs while I am calculating then I just play it. I found the fear tended to come spending too long dreaming up candidate moves and superficially thinking what might be wrong with them.
9:38 I can see why one would hesitate to play g4 there as it gives black a lot of momentum after Nxg4 hxg4 Bxg4 as the bishop on g7 is now opened and f5 is coming while the king is still in the center with at least 2 more moves left until being able to castle. So I personally would not play g4 either. Kd1 on the other hand looks rather appealing to me, so search for moves like this maybe?
I must disagree here. After 1. g4 Nxg4 2. hxg4 Bg4 3. f3 I see nothing at all that would even remotely resemble as "momentum" or "counter play". Black is just completely lost without any play whatsoever.
I took a look at the engine to see the reactions to the lines i had in mind which largely failed to Bh3 which i had missed as well as the missing tempo on opening the file. What is interesting though, is instead of Bxg4 there is Bxe4: And after Bxe4 Ncxe4 Nxe4 Nxe4 f5 gxf5 gxf5 Kf1 exf4 Be4 Be5 the position looks approximately like the position i had expected from this variation. Which is kind of interesting as the variation with a sacrifice on e4 is a lot harder to play for white. But it sure was safer than i had expected so after a sacrifice on g4 there is really no real threat for white.
So I have a question on the story telling issue. What's the line between plans, goals, and evaluating, from story telling? Idk if this makes sense but isn't some story telling what we have to do when we talk to ourselves about ideas, nature of the position etc? I know concert calculation is more important and I'm not trying to argue the point that we should story tell I'm just genuinely curious
