It is a puzzle game with an "adventurous" story. The gameplay is point-and-klick based and it's mainly about solving puzzles and riddles. The storyline is always very interesting and deep and the game has got amazing music.
Yes, you should, it is really awesome. But if you play the third (Unwound Future / Lost Future), you should play the first (Curious Village) and the second (Diabolical Box / Pandoras Box) before that, that makes it easier to understand everything. They are awesome as well. And if you play the fifth (Miracle Mask) you should play the fourth (Last Specter / Specters Call) before that and watch the movie (Eternal Diva). The movie can be seen on UA-cam.
I have so many questions from watching these trailers! I want to know more of the lesser talked about things, like the mini games, the puzzles, the carnival, the city, etc. My curiosity is definitely piqued. Also, no spoilers, please. I speak for myself and those who wish to play the game and find these answers and more out that way than by ruining the story and watching the scenes in Japanese.
The third is probably the best one in my opinion, because it's about time travel. also the storyline is even more great than in the previous games and far more touching.
@hitman3106 Its basicaly a sherlock holmes type mystery, with a professor and his apprentice who are both puzzle and mystery fans. The animated stories in the games are always world class, especially if you like anime,The gameplay is unique too, its a big collection of puzzlesand riddles which, rust me,is alot more addicting than you might think.Hope that helped
Spoilerless answears to your questions: The city in this game is called Monte d'Or, it's a big city with many casinos build anywhere in a dessert, a bit like Las Vegas. The carnival was held to celebrate the town's 18 year anniversary. Some of the puzzles are based mainly on 3D but most puzzles in the game are like in the previous games. One minigame is about selling fruits in a little store, one is about controlling a robot like the toy car (Lost Future) and one is about a guinea pig.
For anyone wondering, this game comes out October 28th in America and October 26th in Europe this year (2012). You can find this info and more on Nintendo's official website.
There is. It's called Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva and is set between Specter's Call / Last Specter and Miracle Mask. It can be watched on UA-cam.
There is no movie based on this one particular game, but there is a movie based on the Professor Layton series, it's called Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.
@ForeignMeerkat Translation, think of all the wordplay puzzles that have to be translated perfectly, also, even if it was done earlier, they've released every game at November do far, and probably wanted to keep that up
It takes a long time to translate these games, considering they have to rework the cultural references. We just got Last Specter at the same time last year. We've been two years behind for awhile and now they've finally caught up with this one.
Then you should also play the other Layton-games, even if you don't like puzzles there is still an awesome deep storyline, brilliant music and beatiful artwork.
This trailer isn't supposed to "blow your mind" or anything, it's a teaser trailer, there are going to be more trailers that will be better, they just haven't been put together yet.
I even know people who want to start to play MGS and get to the MGS4 or Peace Walker games. I always tell them that there´s a story behind it that connects all of these in a creative and senseful way so I don´t want to make the same mistake as them. Would you compare the difficulty of just jumping into the franchise with MGS?
I have a feeling that Layton's old best friend is the the main villain, but that would be the first time I ever predicted something correctly in a Layton game.
Do you man the child at 1:02 ? That's not Layton, he has got totally different eyes. It's Henry, the person who brought Layton tea at the beginning of the trailer.
Yes, it is Layton. That's what he looked like when he was 17 years old. What parania394 most likely meant by BZZZZZTTTTT WRONG is that that is not the kind of hair he has under his hat as we have already seen his hair in the end of Lost/Unwound Future, where it looks differend.
Professor Layton is a series that require's a TON of localization work. Not just the script, but new puzzles have to be made so that they even make sense to western audiences. To be fair, The Last Specter took two whole years to get to North American shores. :c
You could either start with Curious Village (the first game) or Last Specter (the chronologically first game, which tells how Layton and Luke met). Last Specter is probably better than Curious Village as the music and the artwork is better but if you play the first 3 games first you will notice some references to them in Last Specter. In any case you should play all four Layton games and watch the movie Eternal Diva before you play Miracle Mask. (BTW Curious Village has the hardest puzzles.)
Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney is not even released in Japan yet and it is not a part of the actual Layton series. It is set in some sort of differend universe and won't have any recurring characters except Layton, Luke, Phoenix and Maya in it.
Notice how no gameplay is shown. That's because I think it works better as a film franchise than a game franchise. I do like the puzzles but I can honestly say that I prefer the cutscenes much more
Which game did you try? Curious Village? If that's the case you have to know: There are some people who didn't like Curious Village very much, but they did still like the other Layton games. If you play one of them until the end, you'll see that they are actually very good, the have not only got puzzles but also amazingly deep storylines and brilliant music (the music of the other Layton game is better than the Curious Village music).
All of my other questions would probably be spoilers, so I'm just going to wait until October 28th. Thanks, though. it's rare to find nice people these days, especially online.
This Proffesor Layton game looks quite interesting. Do I need to play the other games to understand the whole story better or can I just play anyone and get roped into the story without further ado?
The Prof Layton series are the most awesome series on the DS, try to play Curious Village and lets see what you think of it, 1st you want to clear the puzzles, but later you are in the story so bad, that you don`t care about the puzzles anymore, you just WANT to know whats going on in the story, and I think thats the way to make a game! Try it, (I beat all 4 games so far on 100%) If yah have questions just ask =p
Oh sorry, I don't know Hotel Mario, so I couldn't understand your reference. I should have noticed you were another person though. Anyway, I can tell you those games are really awesome, especially the music and the deep storyline. And the puzzles of course.
si podria jugarlo bien la cosa esq no es lo mismo jugarlo sabiendo que no es de mi region es algo mio ademas por estos juegos si pago y lo minimo es traerlo al español para america
I'm really hoping Nintendo gives us Pokemon games in the near future. I was surprised when we did not get any Pokemon games for the Ambassador Program. I was thinking we would get Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald from the ten Gameboy Advance games given out. Maybe Pokemon is a 2nd party series? (There wasn't Pikachu on the AR cards that came with the 3DS; it would probably have taken the place of Pikmin.)
Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney is not somewhere in there it is set in a differend universe and is not to be set into the timeline. That is because Ace Attorney is set in the near future while Professor Layton is set in the near past.
By the way, I made a little mistake in my previous comment: The third minigame is not about a guinea pig, but about rabbits. (They looked a bit like guinea pigs when I first saw them).
Professor Layton games at amazing - not only great gameplay, but gorgeous artwork and thrilling plot lines.
This game has 3 of my favourite things, point and click gaming, puzzle challenges and anime style cutscenes!
One of my favorite 3DS games!

This is so lovely. The masked gentleman's voice is so...

This isn't just a work of art, it's a masterpiece.
This was the best thing shown at Direct last night!
It's awesome, probably the best or at least the second best game series ever. It has brilliant music, nice characters and witty puzzles.
Just finished this today. This game is sooo amazing.
I KNOW RIGHT ITS AWESOME!!!
For anyone wondering, this game comes out October 28th in America and October 26th in Europe this year (2012). You can find this info and more on Nintendo's official website.

Woho! I thought that was just for America :D
Nice!
I love the puzzles and stuff from this game!
Wow can't wait for this one man.
Every time I play these games, I anticipate the next cinematic. I hope this series never ends. :D
layton for smash bros.
8 years later and still no sign of Layton in smash
This game has such a style. I can't wait!
Finally down to 1 month away! I remember first seeing this on June 21st, and over three months have already gone by.
Awesome can't wait. I'm currently playing spector and it's amazing!
Now that Professor Layton has finally made it to 3DS, there's no doubt that the video and sound quality will be a lot better.
It is one half of the Mask. The moon is just a part of the stone pillar it was put onto.
Miracle Mask will be available in the Nintendo eShop and in stores.
I just pre-ordered it *___* I'm so excited!!! ^^
Ok, when's this game coming out?! I need to play it!
There is no movie based on this one particular game, but there is a movie based on the Professor Layton series, it's called Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.

No it's only for 3DS. It is mentioned in the trailer!
FINALLY! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU
Oh my God, this looks awesome!!!
@TheRandomFreedom I think it comes out in both the US and EU in November
Then you should also play the other Layton-games, even if you don't like puzzles there is still an awesome deep storyline, brilliant music and beatiful artwork.
This trailer isn't supposed to "blow your mind" or anything, it's a teaser trailer, there are going to be more trailers that will be better, they just haven't been put together yet.
thanks for telling me i'll get it when it comes out!! i love puzzles

Thank you for the info sans spoilers! I know the second trailer said the name of the city, but it wasn't exactly clear to me until now.
YES!! It was about time though. The game's been out a year in Japan.
The other 4 Layton-games are also really great. And the Layton movie of course.
That just goes for some of the puzzles, most of them work in every language.
Yes. It's part of the Professor Layton series. ^^
we had to get the last specter first now we get it because the layton games come out in usa after a year of the japanese release
OH MY GOD IM HALF WAY THROUGH AND ALREADY CRYING
I know, but there hasn't been any more trailers for the game, i is sad :(
Nope, this is his American voice (Lani Minella). He's had the same VA for the whole series in America. The UK has always had Maria Darling.
I have a feeling that Layton's old best friend is the the main villain, but that would be the first time I ever predicted something correctly in a Layton game.
In Europe it will be released in October, in America it will be released in November.
Ive never played any of the Layton games, but Ive been thinking of trying them out for a while now. Should I start with the first game?
Do you man the child at 1:02 ? That's not Layton, he has got totally different eyes. It's Henry, the person who brought Layton tea at the beginning of the trailer.

Can't wait to see what they pull of the time.
I pray that a gameplay trailer will be released soon..
Notice how no gameplay is shown. That's because I think it works better as a film franchise than a game franchise. I do like the puzzles but I can honestly say that I prefer the cutscenes much more
In Europe it will come out in October, in America it will come out in November.
I'm glad I could help. If you have got further questiones just ask me.
aw, did they have to change the title? I know the new one's shorter, but "The Mask of Miracles" sounded just a bit more whimsical.
Which game did you try? Curious Village? If that's the case you have to know: There are some people who didn't like Curious Village very much, but they did still like the other Layton games. i'm so happy right now
This Proffesor Layton game looks quite interesting. Do I need to play the other games to understand the whole story better or can I just play anyone and get roped into the story without further ado?
Layton was rockin' the 'do x)
Do you mean when it will come out? In Europe it will come out on October 26th, in America it will come out on October 28th.

Randall's death causes him to be a puzzle-solver and archeologist, Claire's death causes him to be a mystery-solving "dedective" and true gentleman.
Lots of young Layton! So awesome! And totally dorky.
Nice looks like it could be a movie or TV show.
witch is better, majora's mask or the miracle mask?
Anyone noticed that mask at 0:53 is NOT miracle mask? it has a moon on it...
I didn't know September was a holiday.
It'll be my second game to buy for my 3DS..
Arguments only ends like this on Layton videos.
I almost forgot about this game!
Yes, 365 donnwloadable puzzles. They will be like the weekly puzzles in the previous games, but you can download them daily for an entire year.
yes it is very good and i think you should start from the first game curious village
I just like it where it said "for the very first time ... i assume you still like your tea with milk Hershel
He rolls over a kid in EVERY game. O.o
I have never got a professor Layton game before cos they seemed boring but I might get this one as I have heard they are great games
That is not announced yet.
si podria jugarlo bien la cosa esq no es lo mismo jugarlo sabiendo que no es de mi region es algo mio ademas por estos juegos si pago y lo minimo es traerlo al español para america

Because they were too busy localizing the Last Specter and this series in general has taken a while to get localization finished.
Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney is not somewhere in there it is set in a differend universe and is not to be set into the timeline. That is because Ace Attorney is set in the near future while Professor Layton is set in the near past.
In the EU it will come out in October.
Ohh the hype. I want this so bad...
Sounds like a lot to play. Thanks for your advice.
It all started with the Carnival of Ti- or Carnival Parade.
Then I am so ordering it from Britain, because I cannot wait.
November in the US, October in the EU.
By the way, I made a little mistake in my previous comment: The third minigame is not about a guinea pig, but about rabbits. (They looked a bit like guinea pigs when I first saw them).
It get's me every time
