This is a VERY good video - so glad to see people putting together professional tourism videos for Charleston (something lacking in the past). I feel sad though when I think of "home". I'm in Georgia now and like many, left the state when the economy went bad (well, worse), and the drug and crime issues grew and healthcare quality got so much worse as well. There is so much potential there and I just really really wish that someday some outstanding people will rise up to truly lead the City to new things, and that the locals (that remain) will rise up and vote for those new leaders.

The salt wells brought my family from Nicholas County to Charleston after the Civil War. Interesting.

NEBULA well Charleston cannot be half as bad as both Youngstown OH and Niagara Falls NY. I am not trying to deny that your home city doesnt have serious problems it is that it would be very hard to beat out both Youngstown and Niagara Falls on urban decline and disinvestment.

Look up the video Charleston WV 1932 and see what we used to be. Looks like Chicago!

NEBULA I shouldn’t have read this comment, I’m about to be in this area for two years, hopefully it’s not too bad haha

No not bad. Just not a booming city like we were even in the 80's. Used to have to dodge people on the sidewalks, now you can walk block an your the only one using them...

John Smith ah I see how’s the climate over there, trying to prepare what kind of clothes to buy I’ve heard different things, from humid/ rainy to pretty cold winters

I do too, but not everything decent is "up north" Hell Fayettvile doesn't even put slaw on their hot dogs and calls chili "sauce" blasphamy

Watching this just now makes me real sad. All these great restaurants and people, how many are able to weather the China virus pandemic. I really hope all these places pull through.

My wife and I are residents in Washington DC. We are desperately looking to get out of the shitty... I mean.. the city. Charleston looks so nice and appealing compared to the dumpster fire that is DC. Great video!!

The buildings in the east end predate the capitol building? That's not that impressive--the capitol building only dates back to the 1920's. The previous on burned down. Charleston wasn't even the state's first capitol city--that was Wheeling.

I’m wondering... does this reflect the concentration of wealth and power in Charleston?

Find me a “poor” representative, bureaucrat or executive/judicial branch member there
      Hell, it’s sick with lawyers
Considering the city wants to play at artsy coffee houses and fine dining, what wealth there is in WV seems to be on display at the capitol
Of course the “little ppl” don’t matter there
We’re extras in the background to color up our betters’ story

This is unfortunately almost true. I grew up on the West Side of Chas in the 1970s, and believe it or not, back then, it was a very desirable area to live in. Not today according to those I know who still live there. I did notice in this video the first restaurant (The Grill), had a solid steel door with steel bars that went across the two (raised) windows.

Too bad you stayed in the northern parts of the state instead of coming to the south. We have way better food. Most is a spin on soul food.
