This one is especially important for beginners to makeup. How would you find your undertone if you have never bought foundation before? "How to match foundation online" Is one of the number one questions typed into UA-cam because figuring out your undertone can be really hard! Matching your foundation and finding colors that work for your complexion are very heavily influenced by the undertone of your skin. Today, I explain how to figure out your undertone if you have never bought foundations before. No wrist vein test, and no foundation swatches! We have tons of examples of peoples undertones, and we'll break it down so no brown girl shall ever look ashy ever again!

It's 1:30 am and I'm here watching this video. Zen here, we talked on Instagram! I'm definitely a peach undertone because I have both golden and pink in me. I recently bought a rose gold highlighter from Mars and it suited my skin so well! Fuchsia pink brings out the yellow in me while a pastel pink merges with my skintone. Neon yellow makes me look grey but a mustard yellow is love! Reds also look really flattering on me. Black brings out the yellow in me but when contrasted with a white wall, I look more pink. I'm definitely a peach undertone!

You may be on to something when you started out your video with your sunglasses on your head. The title of the video caught me, but I stayed the moment I heard you say that the skin on our wrists is too light to compare to our necks and faces.
I have been referring to mainstream makeup channels and I have never come across someone that looks like me explain this thoroughly with several examples, ON SEVERAL undertones ON SEVERAL COMPLEXIONS. You do have passion and it shows by how well and thoroughly you gripped your audiences with your knowledge.
I have been doing my own research, my current foundation has oxidized a little after a year since its purchase. So when I went to do a skin test for a different brand, I thought there was no way that I could be that light.. And peach undertone? On brown skin? The math didn't math until I stumbled on your video.

Learning about undertones from a UA-cam video at 2 AM is my jam. 1. Love the make-shift mic holder pencil. 2. I decided that foundation wasn't my thing because figuring out my undertone was nearly impossible. 3. I'm going to try the fabric match technique to see if I can arrive at a conclusion. 4. I'm super curious about the color theory behind makeup and in general so I'm gonna put my geek hat on and research further. 5. Absolutely loved this video. Thank you so much for this video Sam! It's been the most helpful in understanding how to SEE colours on faces, despite understanding in theory that colours can be cooler and warmer and it's all relative :P Also five undertones! Has been soooo much more helpful to understand the cool vs warm because seeing the warmer and cooler colours even within pink and yellow unscrambled something in my head I think lol. Thank you for explaining and using all those shade charts and examples!
Picking out my tone in photos with friends is still confusing, it always looks like we have similar undertones somehow, except when one friend is like clearly olive or something. After the fabric test I'm thinking I might be like a warmer peachy pink, but the friend photos situation is seeming like I could be a neutral too? So between neutral and warm pink I guess! I feel like the acne on my face kind of lends a reddishness in general, but I'm going to try shopping for concealer with these answers and put that to the test 🤔

Hi Nikita, This made me so happy to read! It's absolutely possible to be somewhere between two colours and you're right, you might be a pink leaning neutral but not pink enough to be peach. Not everyone has a very clear yellow or pink. I'd love to do some content about muted and saturated skin tones some time. Happy to check out the Reddit :)

I am gonna share this one. Also I perfectly match the neutral one. I do know I was neutral as I looked pink in fee pictures and yellow in some when I was with my friends but great to confirm the same.

Have actually been trying to understand this for sometime now and so glad u came up with this video.. so I find nc42 a lil orangey for me and este Lauder honey bronze tooo yellow for me.. does that make me neutral undertone? Btw both were reccos I picked up made by the sales representative at the counters! Thanks!!
Hi Neha, thanks for commenting girly!! If nc42 and honey bronze pull very yellow and orange on you, you might fall into the neutral to pink part of the undertone spectrum.
If you're pretty sure you don't have dominant pink tones, then you probably have a neutral undertone.
If you think you're yellow dominant though, the issue could be that the undertone is right but you require a more muted shade. Some foundations can have a LOT of the undertone mixed in. Muted skin tones require less of that tint or it looks too strong. Hope this helped!
there's deffo yellow in my skin but i can't differentiate which yellow (cool or warm) stands more 😭 fckn annoyed wish i was a warm undertone like the rest 😤

We definitely naturally gravitate to the things that harmonise with our beauty. We should always trust our eyes!

Hello and congratulations on your engagement! This is a great video idea and I'll definitely get into scripting it, but it may take me too much time and you may need to go shopping before it. So here's what you can do. Wear a black or white top to the stores. Whichever lehengas you do like, hold them up against your face and do a quick vibe check. I don't believe fully in the color seasons theory. Just avoid the colors that make your complexion look very dull or your acne scars show (if you have any).

If you think you're peachy then chances are you probably are! Sometimes we get so caught up in techniques that we forget to just trust our eyes ❤

I'm somewhere similar to you when in artificial light but a bit peach and yellowish when in sun or in natural light I'm super confused here cus i think I'm medium neutral olive ?! if that's a thing n if possible do tell me what is your shade in superstay or fitme so that I don't end up looking orange candy everytime or greyish when i apply some makeup 😭 helpp ?!

Hello! It's a tricky thing to figure your undertones out for sure. If you're sure that you are a pink dominant tone then you just have to reflect on whether you enjoy wearing warm tones like orange. If you do, there is a high possibility that you are peachy. You can DM me on insta for help 💕

Based on all the pictures of it I see online, it seems to fall under a neutral category. There's a balance of pink and yellow tones to it.

My sugar foundation stick shade is 20 galao perfect match with my neck so what my undertone is warm or olive 😅??
Galao and macchiato are both olive. Galao is a bit lighter with more yellow :)

Can someone please help me? I have light-medium skintone and I feel like I have yellow hues in my skintone, but warm concealer is too orange on my skin and neutral concealer is too pink on my skin 😭 I'm not sure if I have olive undertone, because I don't have really obvious green hues, I see them sometimes but I'm not sure. Olive concealers sometimes seem too yellow for me...
Hey you! From your description of your experience, there are two possibilities.
1) You may have olive undertones with a muted saturation level, which means that you require a concealer that has a small amount of the olive tone rather than a large amount of it.
2) You may have a truly neutral undertone, but brands label their concealers neutral even though they are pink sometimes. A true neutral is supposed to be right in between pink and yellow so you can't tell which is dominant.
Since you say that you see green in your skin tone sometimes, the first option is likely :) Hope this helps!

I thought your video was very informative, but I’m still struggling to figure out my undertones. Before watching your video I would have said I don’t have the pink undertones, but now I’m not sure. I can’t decide what I am. I go between Golden, Neutral, or Warm Pink. I have black hair, hazel eyes, and I tan fairly easily. I was always told I have olive undertones, but I’m not so sure. Please help.

Aww I'm glad the veins test worked for you. It can definitely help you figure out if you lean yellow or pink, but one can still buy a wrong shade without knowing what kind of pink or yellow 🤷♀️
