To be honest, I really thought I was playing with some AI. However, I never knew any AI who would do the things my friend did. Waited for me, took a lot of hits, and guided me when things got rough. I avoided this game thinking it was an indie puzzle bland game. I was soooooooo wrong. It's that one kind of game that gives you that one feeling, that one thing no other game can give... I don't know what that feeling is called, but I felt a lot of it since the very beginning, until the end. Thank you for playing with me... random person.
Yeah, I completed it the first time bumping into barely anyone. But the second time, a white robe guided me and helped me up when I randomly fell (my video game ability is appalling!) etc and showed me all the secret achievements and stuff and awww it was actually one of the sweetest things- it was such a different experience. And when I became a white robe, I went and did the same for someone else and :)
@Derpadork was it fulfillment or peace of mind that u felt? & btw, the profile pic I got on is of Sky ☁️, another game by "That Game Company" ( literally the name of the dev company that made Journey & Flower too, 3 breathtaking game's ❤️ )
Journey isn't a game, it's a work of art. You didn't shoot terrorists or slay demons or frag other players online. Instead, you helped another person. Maybe he didn't need help and left you. Maybe you needed his help, and followed in his footsteps. Or maybe you both needed help, and stayed together just for companionship. Whatever the reason, you and your companion walked the same paths, conquered the same obstacles, and shared the same Journey. And neither of you will forget that experience.
One case that has amazed me most in recent years has been Journey, a title that in its less than three hours, does get you, surprise you and even put tears in your eyes. In Journey, there is no dialogue, no names or battles, there is only one destiny, a mysterious journey and an incredible soundtrack, and that makes it just perfect.
I played this game the day it was released, it just looked so dreamy and i stayed up way too late to finish it. I was crying to myself when it ended and audibly gasped when i realized the companions I'd had along the way were real people who were also up way too late sharing an incredibly story with me. I just sat and cried at the sheer beauty of it all. Thank you to every single person I have ever crossed paths with in this game, I love you all even if you will never read these words
I played this game and I cried overwhelmed by emotion. I let my best friend play it through while I observed mostly silently, and he also cried. My wife had tears streaming down her face just listening to me describe the game and the silent companionship of the online component. There is something truly masterful, unique and genius about this game. It's a deeply visceral experience.
The lyrics are solely made out of quotes. And i took the liberty of posting them here below. * "Stat sua cuique dies Stat sua cuique dies To each his day is given (Aeneid) Mæl is me to feran Time is it for me to go (Beowulf) Aleto men moi nostos Aleto men moi nostos Lost is my homecoming (Iliade, Omero) C’est pour cela que je suis née I was born for this (Joan of Arc) Kono michi ya Yuku hito nishi ni Kono michi ya Aki no kure On this road Where nobody else travels On this road Autumn Nightfall (Matsuo Basho haiku) C’est pour cela que je suis née Ne me plaignez pas C’est pour cela que je suis née I was born for this Do not pity me I was born for this (Joan of Arc)"
Boots Bootybreath The Japanese bit is actually slightly wrong. Not just in your lyrics, but the whole song. It's supposed to be "hito nashi ni", not "nishi". Nishi means west.
Jeremy SOUETRE The soundtrack matches the gameplay experience so beautifully. Especially this specific song, I was reduced to tears for the first few times I played through. I definitely recommend playing it. It's quite short, but worth every single second. Not one bland moment.
To each his day is given To each his day is given Tis time That I fare from you Lost is my home coming Lost is my homecoming I was born for this Along this road Goes no one Along this road This autumn eve I was born for this Do not pity me I was born for this
Going in to this game I knew there was a possibility of another player being in my game. What I didn’t expect was a companion who stuck by my side the entire time. They showed me every secret and were very patient as I tried to figure my way around the levels. They chirped when I chirped and always stuck by me to refill my scarf. When I knew the end was near I was so shocked when I started tearing up. The crescendo of the music as my new friend and I soar through the clouds. I didn’t want it to end. But I am happy that it happened. I will never forget my companion and I will never forget my Journey.
Is 2020, the people in the world is in quarantine. Im in my house, thinking about the future, then I downloaded this game for free. I played it, i finished it and enyoyed it. My partner in this aventure always are by my side and clear the game together. My emotions rise in tears, the bonds between us were strong. I made a new friend in real life. Actually im listening this masterpiece in my window, and i see a couple of birds flying together far away in the sky and I inmediately think: "those birds are my new friend and i playing JOURNEY".
I’m in a high school band and we are playing this song and I have to say that it is truly the most beautiful song that I have had the opportunity to play.
I just now searched up the lyrics to this song. It had never occurred to me that the song actually transitions between several languages, particularly citing some of the most ancient works that we know of. +TheDragonSmasher Choosing between this soundtrack and Ori and the Blind Forest's soundtrack would be like asking me to choose which of my children I love more.
That would be a pretty melodramatic funeral. I feel like if I played this at mine all the attendants would be like "this guy thought he was pretty deep, huh?"
I really hope this game make his way to the PS4, its such a masterpiece... i still can't understand the people who says indie games are worthless, u can find wonderful games among them
they like "game-y" things and a lot of sony's endorsed indie games are not that "gamey" at all. Which is why I like them. Fuck leaderboards and rules and challenge and fast pace and all that other shit that doesn't belong in something I'm doing to have fun. :V Take solace in those people being a vocal minority on sony platforms. They'll never stop getting plenty of "gamey" things they enjoy and the occasional game that doesn't put a whole lot of emphasis on pressuring the player to complete objectives isn't going to hurt them.
Prototype_Wesker A friend of mine was furious that the game was so short, he didn't want to put down the 15 dollars to play it. His loss I guess, he missed out on an absolute gaming masterpiece.
2:40 "この道や 行く人なしに 秋の暮"This haiku is a parting haiku of a famous Japanese haiku poet. As a Japanese person, I am very happy that you have incorporated Japanese into this piece.
Every line is a quote from a different language, there is French "C'est pour cela que je suis née, ne me plaignez pas" -> "I was born for this, don't pity me" quote from Joan of Arc There is also Greek, Gaelic and Latin
Hands-down, the only game I have ever played in my life to have given me the pleasure of an emotional roller-coaster akin to the ups and downs of life itself. I experienced happiness, fear, anxiety, sadness, despair, and an unparalleled sense of wonder while playing this game, and, I am very, very far from being ashamed to admit that I openly wept for half an hour upon finishing the game, for sheer joy and elation alone. This is not only a game, this, is a masterpiece; a work of visual and musical art combined into something that I doubt will ever be 'one-upped'. This game, and the music, connects on a deep level with its players, and the creative minds should be extraordinarily proud of that feat. I play this game once a week, since I have purchased it, almost religiously.
I was at a videogame concert and at the very beginning they played this song. The singer had such a beautiful voice and the memories of how i felt at the end of the game almost made me cry in public XD
The soundtrack compliments this game so damn well. The game itself is really heart warming, and adding this music makes it impossible not to finishing it without shedding some tears. This song specifically; after "passing to the other side" to reach the top of the mountain, it's just... gosh... can't really describe it with words. I remember playing with company the whole game, even dying together (according to my sister's theory of what happens) after reaching the summit... That person even drew a heart on the sand right at the very end before crossing to the light... I will never forget it.
Jenova did, indeed, mean for this game to be a beautiful piece of art depicting a metaphor of human life. It succeeds on a level that is impossible to describe or put words to. Austin Wintory is just as incredible as a composer creating such amazing music that perfectly falls in place with Journey and unlocks incredible emotion in our hearts. Jenova Chen, Austin Wintory, and all of thatgamecompany...THANK YOU. We need more people in this world like you guys.
I started playing the game and I met them. They helped me get through the game. They must’ve finished the game, I thought. They helped me get through the ghostly sands. Though I lost connection. The time we spent together was very special. Very memorable. I remember them waiting for me when i was a bit slow. I remember flying with them in the dessert. Then our quick friendship came to an end. Though losing connection was devastating, I made my way slowly almost to the end. The snowy mountain. Still I wonder if they’re doing okay. Thank you for helping me.
It's just like real life. There is someone there to help you up, there to push you towards your goal. But then when they leave unexpectedly, you feel alone, vulnerable. Then, you can feel their force, just like they never left, knowing they will push you towards the right path.
How... I don't know how they did it, but they made one of, if not the most beautiful and thoughtful games to ever exist. When I finished my first playthrough, I just kinda sat there. I couldn't believe the journey that I had just went through. I was surprised that I was able to hold back the tears. I finished the game and I just sat down for a little while and just gave this game the time it deserved to sink in, I didn't know how else to process this and give the game the respectful time it deserved.
I recently went to Berwaldhallen for their concert The Score. This piece was the opening and it completely blew me away! I've got this game but have yet to play it.
I freakin love this game! I bought the BluRay version after I played the demo Worth every penny!! I never thought games could leave an emotional impact on me But somehow this game did, So glad I bought it
The first time I finished this game I just sat there, speechless, while this was playing. The experience shocked me, it was such a beautiful game, it was like nothing I had ever played before. This game holds a special place in my heart. ♥
I played this game once and cried. Then promise me i'll never touch it again to keep amazing memories of this experience. After years i couldn't resist and, i just cried again... I can't find the words to describe what happened. Love you.
Score, the orchestral production of Video Game Music that performed with the Gothenburg Philharmonic Orchestra tonight, used this as their opening act. From the moment they struck the first note til' the last tone rang out, I just sat there with tears flowing down my face. Everything I felt when I played through the game for the first time came back and hit me in the chest, like it was the very first time. This truly is a glorious, masterful piece. Austin, no, Sir Wintory, you've created something beautiful beyond belief. Thank you.
I have never played the game, nor had I ever heard the music before the concert today - it didn't matter, I too was completely blown away by it. I also have to say that I thought Sabina Zweiacker did a fabulous job with the vocals! All in all, a brilliant concert, and a superb opening.
Journey was such a beautiful game that i played it twice, and that soundtrack and the orchestra, nothing compares to the other games ive played. it's easily one of my top favorite games.
I played Journey D-1. But the person i played with knew everything about the game. she was always behind me, she let me explore the world. Sometimes she went front of me to prevent danger, or to redirect me to an hide bonus. She was so happy to see me still here and congratulates me when I have found something that was hide. We were like a mother and her son. I realize today i maybe played with a dev ^^ that was a really nice experience.
Still one of the best metaphorical and literal journeys to grace the senses. Other must-play-before-you-die games: Shadow of the Colossus, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Ico.
What I love most about this song is how it relates to the Hero's Journey theme in Journey. The first song in the OST is named Nascence, meaning birth, and the 17th one is Apotheosis, meaning either rising to godlike status after being reborn, or is the climax of a certain event. It literally comes full circle as the game does and it basically tells us: "You were born for this" which I think personally is the reason behind this song. The lyrics and instrumental are bittersweet, like a death that is peaceful and accepted and then is uplifting when saying the last 2 lines of the song: "Do not Pity me, I was born for this."
Journey dose something that few games have ever achieved it brought people from all around the world together and made Total strangers walk dance and sing together and to this day it is my all-time favorite video game.
Every time I sing along to this and hit the 3:22 mark, I start off okay but then instead of hitting the high notes I just start bawling my eyes out: "je suiiiiiiiiiis, nee-eh-EEEEEHHHHHHHH WWWWHHAAAAAAAAHHHH"
I played with one companion the entire game and later got a friend request from the guy only to find out he was the person i hated most at the school i go to. Amazingly we became friends later. The joy of Journey is knowing a kind of bond you can share with a person you dont even know after putting your trust and survival in them for hours that feels like years of traveling together
What a beauty, over and over again... This is a masterpiece, thank you Austin Wintory for your inspired music, thank you Sony for allowing us to have this game-spiritual experience. If I ever would say what PS3 brought to my life, my answer would have Journey on the top, above many good experiences.
i cried when i first played this i would like to find someone who didn't cry/be in awe from this games beauty i'm glad that i found this before watching a play through it would ruin the experience T.T.... just so beautiful
now I wanna have a ps3 just for this game..... Man, my heart wants to melt because of this song! It gives such a warm feeling that I will never forget. God bless the music to Journey. It will forever be in my heart. I'm pretty serious, this music is just divine to me.
Not words for it but REVOLUTIONARY!! Never enjoy a game with such simplicity but so full of emotional events that draws the gamer closer and emotional attached to the character and the stranger that helps you in this journey. Its just an absolute delight to play a game that compares to none. Amazing. Great job From a loyal fan.
In almost twenty years of gaming, never before have I had an experience like Journey, and never again do I expect to. I consider it a privilege to have played this game - I've never had a game move me so deeply, or stir such a meaningful feeling of camaraderie between me and my companion. As soon as I beat the game and found out who my partner was, I messaged him and thanked him for such an incredible experience. Simply beautiful.
This game is the best ever created. It hits you on like a level unknown to any game. It's short but sweet, but I've played this game over 10 times and each time shocks me to the core. Play it bro.
The best experience is having a partner stay with you and help complete the quest together. I love helping others in the game. It is the greatest game I have. So beautiful, and aspiring graphics.
During the game I'd always been lone wanderer. I wanted so much to meet someone, any living soul in this unfriendly world, but my goal was still the same. And I did it myself, alone. Don't pity me, because I was born for this.
Had I known what kind of music this game had, I would have bought it when it came out. Thankfully this was in the PSPlus list of free games for this month. Easily the best game to come out of their free list for a long, long time.
step 1: lay down
step 2: close eyes
step 3: try not to cry
step 4: cry
Yes
Exactly :_(
Dealing with grief and or guilt
… a lot
10 years after now its nostalgic game and yes.. time for cry
Aged 68 & just played Journey for the first time. Absolutely magical. Life, death & rebirth. It really touched me...

Dang, No offense, but you didn't see true art
Since u liked joruney.
Try inside🙏its also a indie game with no dialouge only gameplay but implies a real good meaning
Journey isnt a game... It is art.
I see no reason it cannot be both.
It is a start.
And what are videogames? XD
Art games are few and very underappreciated.
Glad to be alive to see something like Journey come into the mainstream.

Iam already crying
Not possible.
Not gonna happen sadly
impossible, never and no one can't

Nice I never knew this thanks
I open my eyes and I come to
an endless sea of daylight sand.
No direction, no destination.
But off I walk forward and forward.
In the distance, a mountain stands.
Bright and calm, strong and grand.
It calls to me.
and so I walk forward and forward.
Marking glyphs, mending scarves,
I marched through heat, ruins and shade.
In unknown lands with unknown creatures,
A solitary journey that I will brave.
Even so in distant view,
Another calls. A silent song.
One more like me has travelled through.
Our journey has begun.
We marched through heat, ruins and shade.
Safe from deadly, roaming gaze.
Marking glyphs, mending scarves,
Gliding still, in our voyage.
And in the cold we withstand,
By the warmth we closely shared.
With you beside me hand in hand,
We'll soar past the piercing air.
We'll continue flying, forward and forward,
While the light draws welcoming and closer.
Atop the sea of endless clouds,
The peak is waiting, the peak is brighter.
As we walk our final together,
this is the treasure I held.
We travelled far from the start
But we are close to this end.
We cross the light. It is done.
There is peace, there is longing.
I open my eyes and I come to,
Another life, another chance with you.
Its sometimes really hard to go through the light, when you have a special companion next to you😢
@@sny8175 Agree, but we can be that someone to somebody else too.
has it really been that long? I feel old now..
We shouldn't be too afraid.
We now know what happens after the mountain anyway.
Best video game soundtrack of all time imo
TheDragonSmasher Check out Okami's one ! ;)
+TheDragonSmasher Choosing between this soundtrack and Ori and the Blind Forest's soundtrack would be like asking me to choose which of my children I love more.
+alexanderalexandrou Okami had an amazing soundtrack also. Journey and Okami are definitely up there in terms of music, both fantastic.

Silent hill series, Shadow of the Colossus.
This music and this game go together hand in hand. Seperating them would be criminal.
I want this song to be played at my funeral.
Vincenzo Leone i can help u comming one step closer to ur wish ; )

I want Apotheosis played first, then this.
God damn... that’s a good shout!

I just finished Journey on Ps4😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💘💘💘 . THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE.

Which is why I like them. Fuck leaderboards and rules and challenge and fast pace and all that other shit that doesn't belong in something I'm doing to have fun. :V
Take solace in those people being a vocal minority on sony platforms.
Long playtime is desirable in some genres - this is not one of them.
Prototype_Wesker it should release today. i think it's bloody awful that I got the collectors edition, so I can't redeem it (seriously!? ;-;)
I think it's awful people who own it on ps3 don't get it again on ps4 like with flower ):
2:40 "この道や 行く人なしに 秋の暮"This haiku is a parting haiku of a famous Japanese haiku poet. As a Japanese person, I am very happy that you have incorporated Japanese into this piece.
Sorry for my poor English.
Along this road goes no one
Along this road this autumn eve...
It is beautiful... And your english is fine 😊
Every line is a quote from a different language, there is French "C'est pour cela que je suis née, ne me plaignez pas" -> "I was born for this, don't pity me" quote from Joan of Arc
There is also Greek, Gaelic and Latin
@@xion9463 There's no Gælic in this. It's Latin, Old English, Greek and Japanese.
'Mæl is me to feran' is old English from Bēowulf.
Bashou. He created a wonderful collection of haiku.
Austin Wintory made the most beautiful thing i've ever heard.
"Do not pity me, cuz I was born for this."
Kono Michi ya
Yuku nashi ni hito
Kono Michi ya
Alki no kure
I was born a year before this game, and consider it my sibling at this point, may this game live forever
This might be the most powerful song I've ever heard in a game or just in general.
This and the soundtrack of ICO and of Shadow of the Colossus
I agree
and NieR Gestalt.
I was at a videogame concert and at the very beginning they played this song. The singer had such a beautiful voice and the memories of how i felt at the end of the game almost made me cry in public XD
Mindlessdiary the Swedish philharmonic right! Man that thing was amazing!! I was stumped when they opened with this.
LOL I’d hate to be performing in whatever has to follow *this* up 😂😂😂
The soundtrack compliments this game so damn well.
I've done that before too.. RANDOM BUDDY IS THAT YOU?
One of the most beautiful songs...
Question: What is the meaning of life?
Answer: The Journey
The way every time I hear this music, it brings back all the feelings from playing Journey.
We need more people in this world like you guys.
this game almost made me cry of joy. haven't felt those butterflies in my stomach from a game before
I started playing the game and I met them.
Seriously crying right now only 30 seconds in.....wanted to be reminded of how much this game made a difference on my perspective.
Most beautiful game ever made!
Agreed
Whenever I make new friends we always make little hearts in the snow after almost finishing the game. It is great
I herd this song live here in Stockholm Sweden when video games live preformed it, the most beautiful experience in my life!
I cried so much!=)
I recently went to Berwaldhallen for their concert The Score. This piece was the opening and it completely blew me away! I've got this game but have yet to play it.
when i first finished this game it became my favorite game in PS3 but after finishing it for the fourth time i knew its my favorite game of all time
I envy you
Well this is my second favourite game of all time
I still like last of us better no offence
This is my second favourite game of all time!!
Mazeen Mohammed always glad to hear people have this game in their top lists
I freakin love this game!
I bought the BluRay version after I played the demo
Worth every penny!!
I never thought games could leave an emotional impact on me
But somehow this game did,
So glad I bought it
It’s in my top ten for sure.
The first time I finished this game I just sat there, speechless, while this was playing.
The experience shocked me, it was such a beautiful game, it was like nothing I had ever played before.
This game holds a special place in my heart. ♥
I don't always cry. But when I do, I better be crying over something as moving and inspiring as this musical masterpiece among masterpieces.
this game allowed me to make a deeper connection with some random stranger better than anything else ive ever experienced
I'm playing this in band and all I gotta say is this is just so beautiful
Same. I landed the solo somehow so wish me luck- good luck to you as well
I played this game once and cried. Then promise me i'll never touch it again to keep amazing memories of this experience. After years i couldn't resist and, i just cried again...
I can't find the words to describe what happened. Love you.
Your comment is awesome! Messaging your partner and thanking him for the experience... it was truly beautiful and inspiring. =)
this game felt less like a game and more like an interactive art piece, and i mean that in the best way possible
1.30...the words of the great Achilles to his father (in Homer's "Iliad") "ὤλετο μέν μοι νόστος" (oleto men moi nostos - "there is no return for me")
Thanks
Score, the orchestral production of Video Game Music that performed with the Gothenburg Philharmonic Orchestra tonight, used this as their opening act. From the moment they struck the first note til' the last tone rang out, I just sat there with tears flowing down my face. Everything I felt when I played through the game for the first time came back and hit me in the chest, like it was the very first time.
This truly is a glorious, masterful piece. Austin, no, Sir Wintory, you've created something beautiful beyond belief.
Thank you.
Nice, was there too!
I have never played the game, nor had I ever heard the music before the concert today - it didn't matter, I too was completely blown away by it. I also have to say that I thought Sabina Zweiacker did a fabulous job with the vocals! All in all, a brilliant concert, and a superb opening.
CountDiLuna Listen to the rest of the OST, it's all pretty amazing.
Journey was such a beautiful game that i played it twice, and that soundtrack and the orchestra, nothing compares to the other games ive played. it's easily one of my top favorite games.
Journey is the best game to create strong bonds with people you don't even know
only time ps plus was ever useful to me. I played this masterpiece. what a soundtrack, damn!
Shadow of the Colossus). ❤️
I've never been so relaxed yet so intrigued in a game, ever. EVER.
This is stunning music.
One of the most emotional video game soundtracks around!
man this music is beautiful and that singer is great to.
i just played this for the first time. My daughter should be born in the next few days. Perfect timing.
Its amazing how this game was able to make a desert so visually stunning
The traveller is always returning. One who does not is no traveller.
Truely not the end of a game, but a new beginning.
This soundtrack is absolutely wonderful, it really makes me want to play the game.
Journey dose something that few games have ever achieved it brought people from all around the world together and made Total strangers walk dance and sing together and to this day it is my all-time favorite video game.
This game touched my soul more than any other game. It felt like a awakening of my soul
Still one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had in video games. Still takes my breath away.
Had tears in my eyes when I finished Journey two years ago. And again after seeing my 7 year daughter finish it 2 days ago.
Every time I sing along to this and hit the 3:22 mark, I start off okay but then instead of hitting the high notes I just start bawling my eyes out:
"je suiiiiiiiiiis, nee-eh-EEEEEHHHHHHHH WWWWHHAAAAAAAAHHHH"
I played with one companion the entire game and later got a friend request from the guy only to find out he was the person i hated most at the school i go to. Amazingly we became friends later. The joy of Journey is knowing a kind of bond you can share with a person you dont even know after putting your trust and survival in them for hours that feels like years of traveling together
this song is just perfet, i just love it 💛
What a beauty, over and over again... This is a masterpiece, thank you Austin Wintory for your inspired music, thank you Sony for allowing us to have this game-spiritual experience. If I ever would say what PS3 brought to my life, my answer would have Journey on the top, above many good experiences.
Yes it is. Love your picture from Spirited Away, the trainride song is also beautiful.
I like how the games music starts only when you get to that specific bit and doesnt start before you get there, genius.
Each time I listen to this masterpiece, tears starts coming down..🙏
i cried when i first played this
i would like to find someone who didn't cry/be in awe from this games beauty
i'm glad that i found this before watching a play through
it would ruin the experience
T.T.... just so beautiful
I have no clue what she's saying but man does she say it beautifully.
I love the game . I played it 5 times and its still so good as it was the first time
This Game as a whole is one big Masterpiece and it deserves so much more attention! It's one of a kind!
now I wanna have a ps3 just for this game.....
Amazing. Great job
From a loyal fan.
Don't pity me, because I was born for this.
listening to music like this and the urge to never want to die comes over me. You don't ever want to leave.
This song never ceases to tear me up
Easily top 10 best games of all time.
Yes it really should be number one
Had I known what kind of music this game had, I would have bought it when it came out. Thankfully this was in the PSPlus list of free games for this month.
Easily the best game to come out of their free list for a long, long time.
James Augustine Unfortunately i got the game when it was not free. but either way it was worth it.
on the internet there are many epic moments, I consider this to be one of them
journey ... a carpet that made me cry
This is the most beautiful song in that game.
To this day, the only video game moment that made me cry.
