Thanks for the review! I'd be interested in your thoughts on how the adidas adizero shoes in your collection (like the SL20, Adios 5, Boston 9 and Pro) differ and how you have used them in your shoe rotation? For example, did you find one particular shoe to be particularly good for one type of run or was one shoe particularly bad at any types of runs.
Thanks Nehal for this comment, a really great though that I can try to open up in a video. I'll be sure to address this at some point. Thanks for sharing :)))
I'm so addicted to the Bostons. Started with 1 pair and loved it so much that i bought another 2 pairs and they have become my sole road running shoes. Short, long, slow, fast they can do everything. And they're so protective for such a low stack height. 30 kms no problems, no pain under the metas whatsoever
This was a great video. I love my Adidas Boston 8. I PRd in them on the 10k and the half. They are petty destroyed now and I was wondering if I should get the 9. Also, from one youtuber to another, I loved how you filmed this video
Thanks so much Suzy! I was lucky to be able to film it at work, nice to mix things up. I'll have to try and get a PR in them also :) Yet to watch your latest video, but I hope you're feeling better!
I love my blue B8's too, but they are really narrow (despite a half size up!). I have taken time in the store to compare mine 8 with the 9. Wow, the 9 are really improved, fit like a glove. No need to size up. So, I didn't get them yet (that pink...;) but I am patient.
Even though this shoe ultimately proved too challenging for me, I'm glad I discovered your channel. I like that your videos aren't just endless shoe/gear reviews, but are mostly useful videos about actually running!
I really loved this comment that you shared. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I say this because I am trying to plan what I want to do this year in regards to running and adventures... also for UA-cam, and this was a great reminder of just to share things. The Bostons have been my go to tempo/speedwork shoe for a long time. Im still working through my stockpile of 8's but by spring I should be able to crack open my 9's to give them a go.
Thanks for this. Can't make my mind up between Boston and Adios 5 for general running up to 10k. Mainly for training (getting back into running) - what would you recommend?
If you haven't run in the adios 5's before I'd recommend the Boston's, they have the same feeling but Boston has a bit less harsh of a slap when you land. Also if it is going to be your shoe for general running, I would be happy to run 70% of my runs in the boston, but maybe not adios. These of course are my opinions :)
Hi Marc, this is my daily training shoe, I'm running with the 8 now due to the reason that the 9 was not available when I had the need of a new daily training shoe, and actually was a really good deal. Actually a great daily training shoe because the boost
I tried a pair of these on at my local store the other day and they feel great. I’m not going to pick them up now because I just bought 2 other pairs of shoes online recently and have like 8 pairs in my rotation now... also they are still very pricey here, so I’ll wait until there’s a deal on.
hehe, yes sounds like you have enough shoes to rotate through at the moment. Hope that means we are getting some more reviews from you. yeah just wait for the Boston 10 to be released :)
@@runningwithmarc other than the Kinvara 11s I bought new in August, I’ve been sticking with sales/clearance pricing on all my purchases so that means a year or 2 old model. It also means shoes for $50-70 CAD, so can’t complain haha. I’ll likely still do a review on these shoes but it’ll be mostly for anyone looking to snag a pair cheap while they can still buy them.
faster pacing and track runs yes, longer fast runs maybe not so much.... I mean it also depends what you are used to running in and your conditioning, for most, I'd say maybe something with a bit more cushioning for the longer efforts.
The Boston 9 is probably the shoe I should have bought instead of the SL20 (version 1) and Atreyu standard, when I was curious about firmer EVA soles vs Boost. But my aging joints and firm EVA soles don't get along well. Although between the two -- SL20 and Atreyu -- combining the best of both might have suited me better. The Atreyu pushes up against the outer edge of my foot, leading to pain around the ankle after 3 miles or more. And it's much too wide for my narrow A/B width feet. But the Atreyu drop (6mm rather than the usual 9-10mm with adidas) and lack of outsole rubber make the Atreyu more comfortable to me, especially on gravel and chipseal pavement. But the SL20 upper is nicer and the narrow fit suits my narrow feet. I just dislike the excessive (to me) drop, too-hard outsole, and harsh heel-to-midfoot transition of the SL20. The SL20 is a good looking, well fitted shoe, just not fun for me to run in. Basically, since I already like the Solar Boost and have put a lot of miles on that pair without pain (Boost is very forgiving for a heel striker like me), I should have gotten the Boston 9 or even 8 if I was curious about the feel of a firmer EVA mid/forefoot sole. Run and learn, I reckon. Good review. Enjoyed the shoe flip outtakes!
Really awesome of you to take the time to share, I' sure this comment can help many others, so thanks for that. I had the SL20, I liked it, but as soon as I got the Boston 9, I stopped running in the SL20 as the Boston was just so much better in many ways. I used to not like higher dropped shoes, but now if the shoe is like a Boston or Adios, I like the higher drop, if it was a Hoka with high drop I wouldn't like it, I feel where I strike/land with Adidas shoes, so my running gait has improved. Well this is for me. :)
After watching other reviews of both versions of the SL20, it may be a problem with the harsher heel to forefoot transition caused by the outsole shape and torsion plate in the first generation SL20. One reviewer noted that the revised "SL20.2" (I think adidas just calls both the SL20, at least on the shoe markings) eliminated the torsion plate, has a more seamless heel/forefoot transition, and more comfortable ride for easy paces despite being a bit heavier. Forefoot strikers might not even notice the transition quality I've noticed. I'll need to try the SL20 on the local track where I can manage to run on the forefoot for short distances, up to 400 yards at most. Most of my other shoes also have a 9-10mm drop and feel fine.
I haven't been running in Adidas shoes for a long time, but I decided to give the Adios Pro a try. I was so pleased by the fit and performance that I took advantage of a sensational 52% off to get me a pair of SL20 too. @@ilupillu4915 Hey, I don't fully understand what you mean about the laces inside them!.... ok I went to look at my shoes, no them holes on the tongue are just for breathability, so no need to put the laces through them. @@ilupillu4915 Hey, I don't fully understand what you mean about the laces inside them!.... ok I went to look at my shoes, no them holes on the tongue are just for breathability, so no need to put the laces through them. It's fine and probably good to have some space at the toes area. Only bad if your foot slides forwards (when laced up) and you have space behind the heel. Hope that helps :)
Nice review! Are they true to size?
They are across the Adidas shoes I have had (adios, Boston, sl20, pro), and thanks :)
@@runningwithmarc Thank you :)
Great review! To be honest I have never given Adidas shoes much attention. but I keep hearing about these Boston 9's so I've been getting all the info I can. I did notice they are all just about sold out (Jan 2021) everywhere. What gives. Supply problems or replacing them with a Boston 10?
I think I saw a prototype of the Boston 10, but with the internet you never know 'was it real' :)
I’ve been pronouncing adidas wrong this whole time. 👍 well not the correct way at least. Now I know.
I think they say it different in the states and some different countries. quite funny :)
Fantastic in depth review. I love your level of detail and subtle Suunto advertising...
lol, it kinda does feel like advertising hey, but it's just a nice meeting room :D well better than my living room. Although I wouldn't want to live in the meeting room :)
