  • Adidas Boston 9 Review at 100 miles. Runners review of the Adidas Boston 9.
    Today a 100 mile review of the Adidas Boston 9. A great boost and lightstrike midsole offering from those German shoe masters!
    This is a shoe i purchased myself with my own earth credits, no free shoe reviews going on here. These are my own honest opinions on the Boston 9.
    I examine the upper, midsole and outsole along with a score for value on this £120 retail shoe. It is mainly good news to report on this footwear aside from a couple of issues.
    Let me know your thoughts on the Boston 9 in the comments.
    Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.
    Keep it nice in the comments please, i do not do unpleasant, its just ..... unpleasant. See you in the digital ones and zeros......

    I love the Boston series. I use them for my long runs and daily easy runs. Got the 5,6,7, 8, 9 editions. The 5 is retired and have logged about 1,500kms. My 6 is currently about 1,400kms but im using it for daily easy runs. These series are very durable and adapts to any terrain.

    I recently picked up a pair with the same colour way for myself and my girlfriend. We both really enjoy it! I am using my Boston 9s in conjunction with the Endorphin Speeds for long runs, to get a plate and non-plate mix for my feet. Currently logged 260kms on them and I've experienced the same collar wear. The midsole and outsole still feel great. I actually use this on track for intervals and such as I found them more stable than the Speeds. However, the Speeds hold my PR for the half marathon, beating my Boston 9 time by 2 mins on the same route.

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 3 роки тому

      I own both of those so was interested by your HM comparison. I suspect the Speeds-in addition to being lighter and having more springiness from the Pebax and nylon plate--are more forgiving because they have more cushion. My only disappointment with them is that with only 70 mi on them, the outsole on the rear lateral corners is almost worn off. Never have to worry about that with the Bostons! Martha

    • @kentm7731
      @kentm7731 3 роки тому +1

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 definitely the cushioning helps my legs feel fresher after the distance. I think the combination of the speedroll and plate helped the time in the HM. The Boston’s felt like I worked for it more. Which isn’t a bad thing, and another reason why I alternate my long runs between the two. I actually do feel different muscle groups are worked (based on fatigued areas). I am not experiencing the same wear pattern you mentioned though, as they both are wearing the outsole in the same areas for me (mostly forefoot). However, if the run is taking me on light trails, it’s all Boston9s for sure. It’s just more stable and grippy.

      @mechadriver5088 3 роки тому

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Yeah, I have the same issue with the rear lateral corner (but this occurs on all my shoes). It took me to 100+ before I was burning pebax. Don't believe it is really affecting anything though. I think of it is my way of putting a bevel into the heel that the designers forgot.

  • @VJRiviere
    @VJRiviere 3 роки тому +2

    Got 576 miles out of the B7s before the cushioning was a bother on my knees, but 454 out of the B8LTs, my 1st ever Adidas shoe where the upper split (under the middle stripes on the pair - been using Boston's since the 3). More worryingly, the webbed outsole separated from the soles (glued them back a few times) and the ends of the torsion plate eventually began to poke through. Really enjoyed running in them though - managed some of my best training runs in 2020 on quite a mix of terrain. Bit firm admittedly in the forefoot for those 16+ mile runs.

As a heel striker i love the stable firm and dynamic heel with a super smooth transition to that snappy front and yet they feel so comfortable and protective underfoot. I have the original (all Boost) Boston 8-I’m on my 2nd pair--and the Boston 9. I too love the stability, the race-like fit and snappiness, and the ground feel that doesn’t sacrifice comfort and protection. What you’ll like about v.9 if and when you get to it: more breathable upper which is better for warm/hot weather, more roomy toebox without losing the good heel-hold and midfoot cinchability (that’s not really a word!). But I’m glad I picked up the new pair of 8’s before they disappeared in my size, because they’re warmer and more water-repellant than the 9’s. Martha

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Thanks Martha. However Boston V8.1 isn't all Boost it has an EVA layer above the Boost layer that was replaced by Lightstrike in V8.2 and V9 but the construction of those layers is the exact same. Lightstrike is just a fancy EVA anyway. I'm happy with V8.2 since the upper fits me perfectly and feels tougher than the one in V9. Just back from a 15k fartlek and am always amazed at the depth of abilities that shoe has. It feels majestic at any pace !

    I’m still enjoying my B8LS... running in it shortly. I haven’t experienced any strange material wear in that one with well over 100mi. I also have the trad B8 in the wide variation and a pair of the B9. I haven’t run in the B9 yet, but the fit is similar to the B8W.
    The Boston has been around a long time and continues to deliver a balanced shoe without much change. It doesn’t look as versatile as it is. Brilliant if not perfect shoe.

      Hola Sole Brother Amado, I must have a slightly narrow foot because the OG Boston 8 (all Boost) fits me like a glove, albeit without width to spare. But it’s a race-like fit that I love. That being said, I love the 9 and am sure you will as well. It has the same good heel-hold and snug lockdown in the midfoot. The upper is more breathable so better for summer, but won’t be as water-repellant or warm for winter so I’ll be choosing my new Boston 8’s when it gets really cold. I’m glad I picked up another pair before they went extinct in my size. Martha

      @sneakerprofiler 3 роки тому

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 hola, hermanita! Yes... my foot is on wider side. I love the original B8 fit, but the B8W has just that bit of give for the more pronounced mesh. I reach for the Takumi Sen 6 when I have the urge for the most race for my fit. That is probably the most treasured selection in my shūsenal. It's probably too aggressive for many people, but it is quintessential adizero. I, too, am glad I have two pairs of B8 for the winter months. I think it takes a certain type of runner to dig the adizero range... especially the lowest stacked options. We must be a bit nutty in the best possible way.

While I don't think I want to pay that much for the midsole tech on the Adizero Pro, the upper is to die for! In my experience I am more comfortable running faster in the Boston 8 and running longer in the SL20. Its weird. I do feel the B8 is softer than the lighter SL20 so I don't really know why my preferences are that way.

    I agree with you that the Boston is brilliant for the long run training shoe as it offers adequate cushioning.
    I feel that it offers enough versatility for intervals too. 04:50 and sub 4 minute a kilometre it holds up well.
    Do you feel that the carbon plate and Lightstrike combo of the Adizero Pro makes it a better Racer/Interval shoe than the Boston?

    I'm at about 200miles with my Boston 9's. Enjoying for base and long runs. Most disappointing for me was that I went through the heel within a week, however have been have to use a bit of tape to keep them going. These comments just prove how individual fit is--every foot is different. I have a medium width foot but probably on the narrower side, and love the snug race-like fit of the original 8’s. However, I can see why many people find them too narrow and the upper too unforgiving. If they work for you, they feel like an extension of your foot, but v.9 is going to work for more people without a doubt. Martha

    I got my first pair for 80GBP and when I saw amazon sold them at 26GBP, I had to jump on the occasion and pick up another pair this week.
    It's funny how I feel they have a different use for me. I use them for track work and tempo/fast runs up to 10-16 miles.
    I did 28km runs on it and I certainly felt the pavement more than the Endorphin Speed v1.
    Mine have 500km and the outsole is showing only minor signs of wear and they still feel as responsive.
    The grip is great on wet pavement and even on melted snow unlike the Endorphine (Shift and Speed) which are treacherous on anything snowy or wet.
    I also had one run on the Adios 6 yet (with winter and lots of small abrasive on the street, the outsole of the Adios 6 is really not made for canadian winters), but I find the Boston 9 very close to the Adios 6.
