Fun fact, the F-15 pilot seems to have been working with the video maker, to make this video, because he literally did the worst thing you could do against the Cobra. He wasn't even trying. He literally did the worst thing you could do in that situation. Either this was all planned out, or the F-15 pilot was a complete amateur.

Perfect definition of a cobra and I also noticed there was 2 technics used in this video the SU used the cobra maneuver and after the F15 went in front of the SU the F15 used its thrust ratio to trying to get away from the nose of the SU.
I would’ve dropped below, going vertical up brings you into the nose, and after that cobra he’ll be low on energy meaning an easy position reversal if you came round

If your enemy does a Cobra, I think going for the deck is the worst thing you can do. The plane bleeds off most of its energy for a Cobra, the best thing would be to go vertical. Then again, I'm not a pilot so this view was personal.
Its 100% logical and correct. IRL no one bothers with cobras bcz it's unfortunately not as effective as it is cool. Just look at the lack of nose authority after the cobra. If the F15 was being flown by any sane man, the snake would be dead within the next turn reversal.

@@sayfolman7752 I doubt that its because of the cobra, if any pilot is smart enough to know you can pull a cobra (he would definitely know your aircraft from those ranges), he would stay behind you at a distance so if you pull a cobra you will just give him a free gunshot, its better to pull a high yo yo and not give them a free gunshot in the process, the reason the american F-15s may have lost, is not the cobra, its probably because of the fact that russian planes are designed to dogfight, and in a real fight its likely that the su 27 would lose in the BVR fight that happens before the dogfight

If the F15 continues into the vertical while you regain the energy you lost performing the cobra it's got a huge advantage. This Eagle rolled out of the vertical and slowly dove into the HUD.
Big mistake by F15 pilot not just continuing in the vertical/flying the fuck away. You can tell the Russian jet is slow as hell after that cobra and has no chance of catching up.
Its a show maneuver. Even if the situation arises where this an option, the attacking aircraft will just break off, while carrying way more speed, and still have the advantage.
F15 does a nose low max rate turn whilst you have given up most of your energy, your then an easy kill. Cobra great for airshows crap in real world dogfight
As I said before, I'm not an expert pilot. I just like messing around in DCS, I understand the maneuver has never even been utilized in a real-life dogfight. It just looks so damn cool
This particualr maneuver is handy if the enemy on your tail just kinda meanders back and forth rather than actually shoot you. In an actual encounter the SU would have been shot long before having the chance to do aerobatics.
So the perfect example of why the F-15 should have gone full afterburner into a negative G pull over to invertion in order to take advantage of the slow speed of the Fulcrum and commit to a high angle of attack with whatever armaments are left after apparently exhausting missiles and ending up in an aerial CQB.
Would have never gotten to that point of Cobra. Cobra provides for a missle to enable a sure lock. The Cobra doesn't make you Harry Potter. Just the opposite. Sitting duck.
So, what would you say is the effective counter to the Cobra? I think you should make a video experimenting with various ways. I for one think that the worst thing you can do is try to slow down in order to stay with an opponent who is in the Cobra
Don’t follow, because as you can see the Eagle pilot got out-manoeuvred and got hit. One way is to turn away when the Flanker pulls up, and go around to take another shot

That maneuver was used by north Vietnamese during the mid to late 60s, was called hammer and the F4 could not do it.
