It was bad enough with Chino being lame constantly. I had to stop watching because they weren't listening to anything people were trying to help out with. And now Gabby has ANOTHER horse? I definitely give up.
@@SassySorrelFilly yeah I heard they delete negative comments and say it’s bullying when really it’s all constructive criticism - I mean horse community always has heaps to say but this time it’s trying to be nice for the sake of the horses and learning to balance oh don’t forget the trainer who doesn’t give a f about the horses - surely he sees the issues?
Finn is literally the nicest pony to have not bucked Sophie off. Kinda wish he would so they would think he’s not right anymore and get Sophie a new horse that’s actually right.
One of their intro videos shows Sophie jumping Finn and he's way ahead of her and when he lands, she lands on the cantle and he takes off bucking. They didn't show the end so I don't know if she fell off there, but it wasn't looking good. LOL. And yes, she falls off all the time. I didn't think it was possible to hit the dirt that much🤷♀
I've always felt sorry for Finn. Back when they first got him they were always blaming him for being naughty and wouldn't listen to people, instead they just kept shoving different bits in his mouth to make him behave. Who knows how long this poor boy has been hurting
I’m a larger rider so feel like I can speak up a little bit. Sophie definitely needs a larger saddle. She also needs a larger horse, preferably one that is sound. I’m also of the mindset that if we’re going to ask our horses to work for us that we must do our best to look after ourselves, that means eating well and exercising. We need to be as fit as we can when we ride. Sophie is likely at the puberty age so has a lot going on physically. I am NOT picking on her for being overweight. Improving her fitness will help with her strength and balance. While it helps her horse, it will also help her in the long run. A light spook will have her on the ground. Clearly this horse is a saint. Finn is clearly very uncomfortable. I wonder if he is older? This family clearly loves their horses and seem to have the finances to own horses and a coach so hopefully they step up and do better to improve this situation.
I'm fat right now. Working on it, but until I lose weight I would not put myself on a horse. Maybe a carriage, but not on the horse itself. People need to understand that it's fine to be happy about your weight, even fat people! But ONLY if that weight affects only you. The second you're asking something else to support your weight FOR you, it stops being okay.. Be that something as minor as a theme park ride ( an overweight rider not only puts themselves at risk but also potentially the other passengers on the ride ), or a horse where long term plus sized rider on a horse that isn't huge enough to carry significant weight can cause serious injury to the animal, even if not immediately, spinal damage over time is no joke
I feel slightly uncomfortable commenting on a child's weight, but at that girls age I was quite chunky too, but I hit a growth spurt and got more active naturally and I levelled out at a healthy weight. Perhaps she will do the same I don't know the situation or watch this families videos, but definitely when I was her age and a heavier rider I had a bigger horse than she does that horse doesn't look comfortable. I don't understand the mum not being more aware and not vouching for her daughters andddd the horses safety and health.
This horse is soo damn sweet. Despite his lamenes, he tolerates every mistake, which most horses would say, "wtf man?". I feel so sorry for these horses. They always end up like this...
Honestly I think horses are just to good for humans, humans are so fucking wasteful. I find it concerning that Sophie still jumps.. Poor finn, personally haven't watched their channel (I don't think they should be on UA-cam) but it's so obvious his lame!
Well... this horse has more or less no balance or muscle. I would just say that Headbobbing means LAME. No its doesnt. It depends on the horse and on the moment the video was token. On the other side, it was clearly visible the moment he turned on circle... But i would think its the left frontleg. Him beeing not "really" lame on the straight, i would think its something with the tendons. Its typically, few signs of lameness, hard lameness in turns and the headbobbing (sometimes, then not, then again). Had that and its shit, cause you are not really sure: is this horse lame or am i looking too deep.
I just want to put out there I love how caring Raleigh is on the kids feelings and how she does not want to upset them I think that is so sweet, kind, and thoughtful.
@@Stinkybartender exactly. Kids love horses and will accept anything a supposed "professional" says. It shouldn't be a child's responsibility to take action.
@ICU349she’s a kid. It’s not on her to know better, it’s on her mother and riding instructor. The kid’s feelings should absolutely be spared, and the two people who are actually responsible for and in charge of the situation need to be held accountable.
This is an old thread but, I feel the need to say, that girl is a terrible rider. It's not the girls fault, she's not being taught properly. You should be firm, secure and confident in the saddle. She is none of those and the trainer isn't addressing it, so she probably just doesn't know any better. Also, that poor horse, I felt the tugs in my heart whenever you could clearly see the pain he was going through.
The sad thing is, he seems like such a good horse and is being so honest, still listening to her cues and everything. He seems like he could be such a sweet horse if he wasn’t lame. I trust my instructor to notice when horses at my barn are lame, and it worries me that Im not good at telling the signs. I’ll have to look into it more so I can tell. God bless ✝️💖
I agree completely with you! He has such a kind nature 😊 which is his downfall because he isnt throwing her or bronking they will just ignore it… I can tell you hands down that even if my saddle pad is sitting incorrectly then my horse bloody tells me 😂
There’s usually a very slight bob in their head/short step (Notice in the video he throws his head up completely when it starts to hurt). If you’re not sure then my best advice is to get in contact with a vet and get a video of your horse trotting. Send them the videos if you believe your horse is lame. If this isn’t an option then ask public forums, I’m sure someone will be able to help you!
Poor horse. You can see the discomfort. Maybe to someone who's not used to being around horses they wouldn't notice but we all know how a horse is supposed to walk or trot or canter. If they own horses they should look out for that.
I'm a dog person and know nothing about horses, never been around horses except one passes me on walkies and even I could see the discomfort and lameness. It is that obvious already. It's a shame really and I hope this video is a wakeup call for them. Sometimes people love their animals but are blind for their needs and ailments ...
I'm glad you mentioned the 20% for horses. I've been noticing a big issue with riders being TOO BIG for a horse and no one speaks up for fear of being villainized for being "fatphobic." She is too big for that horse. It might hurt her feelings? Well her riding it WILL damage the horse's spine. Having basic empathy for the horse and understanding what you're subjecting it to, what weight you're expecting it to carry... that's bare minimum. Do what you want with your body, put whatever type or amount of food in it you want, I don't care. But when you're making a horse carry that body on its spine, there are concerns to be had. 20% is a rule, not a recommendation that can be broken because you just love riding so much. Do whatever you need to to follow the rule. Get a bigger horse, lose weight, doesn't matter, but your body and tack must be below 20% of the horse's weight. Pick your solution or don't ride. Horses shouldn't be treated so cruelly and suffer because a human feels entitled to ride a horse.
I absolutely agree with you. I have two autoimmune diseases and have gained a lot of weight. I have a half draft horse which weighs at least 700kg and I am below 20% with the saddle but I still feel guilty when I ride on his back, I have a good level but his well-being is my priority . Especially because of the horse's morphology and because of my weight, jumping is absolutely out of the question, his back and joints would risk suffering. I rarely ride him, it has allowed me to do things that I didn't take the time to do with him before, work on the ground, walks in hand or just take care of him, brush him, let the horse let off steam in the arena..or even just watch him live his life with the other horses in the meadow. I have heavy treatments, chronic pain and it's very complicated for me but I refuse to ride him for too long or do too many training sessions before having lost weight, out of respect for my gelding. I'm overweight and I think that at a certain stage overweight and/or obese riders shouldn't do that to horses, horses give us a lot so they deserve to be taken care of. Oh and I forgot the most important, you don't ride a lame horse, you treat it first = veterinarian, osteopath, cures, treatments, care, rest.
@@bostack6714have you considered wegovy? I gained weight from my heart meds. I’m 33. In less than a year I lost 65 lbs. I have CRPS (a pain condition) and arthritis from the army in my hips and back so the weight loss has really helped. As far as wegovy if you stick it out and get to the highest dose the symptoms get better. Nausea/ constipation is the biggest from gastric slowing just eat small meals no sugary foods and absolutely no fatty foods. Good luck!
I always do the twenty twenty rule I also believe the horse comes first no matter what I was sick for a long time and couldn't do my basic exercises and barn chores and I recovered and lost the weight to where I'm back in the twenty twenty rule back to my normal exercise my normal barn chores we have given we have farrier care coming today for her back to her barrel racing training she's been off for two weeks because her frogs have been bothering her so I'm not going to work a lame horse
My vet told me a head bob is typically associated with front end lameness and short striding is connected to the back. It looks like its coming from both front and back, especially seeing it at the canter. Poor guy
my instructors 3 year old mare bobs her head but she is not lame haha my instructor was a vet for like 10 years and the vet agrees that she isn’t lame haha but i agree in most cases
I see the same, sacroiliac issues... costs a bit to correct and a lot of rest and gentle excercise to make sure it stays fixed, and high chances it won't and in this case not ridden at all. I'd love to see them get this checked
Another thing is that their lesson instructors whenever they get a new horse or lease a new horse there’s always something wrong with it and almost every horse they’ve had has usually belonged to the trainers at some point. Literally every horse they have ever had has something wrong with its legs or something like that and the trainers never tell them or recommend for them to do certain things to help their horse. And a lot of times Laura will deny that anything is wrong with the Horses that they’ve gotten their full check ups and nothing has ever come up and that they’ve done everything that they can to figure out the problem which obviously can’t be true otherwise the horses wouldn’t be in this much pain like most of them are. I get so heated and upset for these horses welfare!
I definitely think their "getting the horses checked over by a vet" is a blatant lie. They vlog *everything*, why have we never seen so much as a snippet of a vet visit
@@juststop5548 I think she gets confused by having the horses treated in anyway, since if us humans have backpain we don’t always go to a doctor, we might just go to get a massage or to a chiropractor, yet when their horses have problems they have a chiropractor treat them. Which without saying is not the same a vet over seeing them. Their trainers, especially the old one, have continuously given them terrible advise with horses and that causes multitude of problems when they stay in their bubble where all of this familys horse knowledge comes from 1-2 people with very likely no formal training.
@@juststop5548 we did remember, that one chestnut horse (Chance I think) that they were buying for Sophia before Finn. And he failed.. it broke Sophia’s heart and I swear I think they just decided they wouldn’t do they anymore as we have never seen or even heard about another one
I’m so glad you pointed this out to tell this family and took into account the care about the feelings of there kids. I really hope these parents watch this video and take action on what they need to do, and not ignore this issue.
I feel bad for the kids trying to ride too, imagine riding with a way too small sadly on a horse that's lame because your selfish or lazy mother doesn't care and listen to advice, can't be easy for the kids riding like that.
The worst part is at that point, when the horse is permanently lame… Straight to auction, where the kill buyer is usually waiting just for a horse like that. It’s beyond horrific and frustrating.
Being a bigger rider myself, it is sooooo important to find the fit of horse and tack. (Lowkey makes it way easier to ride too). And building that strength and finding the balance, especially when you have more weight flopping around is extremely important, and then you can actually be confident and ride well and have more fun! Thanks for making these videos, they always teach me more.
Groundwork before mounting is also an essential part of good equestrianism. There are several ground based exercises that can be done before riding, which promote a 'good seat' and correct balance. The Pony Club and The British Horse Society have pages of info that would be a great help to the young girls riding in these videos. Lots of stretches, hip opening, etc all gets you ready to ride correctly. No other sportsman or woman would think about diving straight into their chosen field without the initial 'warm up' exercises - and this is what would help these young girls enormously. (and the ponies they ride!)
I’m so happy to hear you say that, I think any person should be able to ride if they have the proper tack and horse that fits them along with appropriate ridding abilities
Usually I don’t agree much with Raleigh, but just the first few seconds in, I’m already on your side. I’ve watched this channel for years and they have some SERIOUS issues right now… more than they have in the passed. They have simply chosen to not listen for the passed year or so to people’s genuine concerns for their horses and continue to make poor decisions for their animals
Hey from Australia… also it’s really sickening watching them blatantly ignore this horse displaying that he is in pain but also the horse STILL takes such good care of his young rider so so sad
At the very least it shows that Finn is truly a great horse. I can’t even imagine how amazing he would be if he were in better condition! It’s just a shame they don’t realize it.
Just seen a vlog from day by day and they're actually rehoming finn to a new family, YESS! I hope he manages to get the help he needs if he's still lame, I'm so glad they've decided to rehome him 🥰
Daybyday is really lucky to have such a nice horse like Finn. He still tries to do what she want, even if he's obviously in pain. She should be really proud of him.
Laura needs to understand this video is NOT hating on any of them - it's educational. I've followed DayByDay since before they got their first horse, and I've had mixed emotions about their channel the whole time. I know they mean well, but they have to be willing to take criticism and learn from it. As a horse owner myself, I would feel so awful if I didn't know my horse was lame, was told so, and ignored it and continued riding I understand DayByDay, I really do. I had a particularly bad trainer who would do stuff like Brandon does. I remember she would tell me "oh, he's just pretending to be lame to get out of work," and then have him jumping 2'3". And because she was the only authoritative horse person in mu life, I didn't know any better. But, eventually I learned that was wrong and got out of there to a better place where I'm learning real horsemanship. So, there should be no hate that they don't know, EXCEPT that they're being told otherwise by so many people and are ignoring it. I mean, I didn't even realize just how lame Finn was until this video. I knew he was uncomfortable and that something needed to change, but sometimes it takes an educated person to show you what is wrong. So Laura seriously needs to just listen to her followers and Raleigh and others who are telling her this. There is no shame in admitting you were wrong about something unless you continue to ignore it!! That is the real problem here. Both of those girls have the potential to be amazing riders and have amazing horsemanship. They just need the right trainer and the right horses to unlock it.
If she is still not listening about her horse being lame then maybe the SPCA should be called. This is not a hate statement and frankly I really don’t care what anyone thinks of this statement, my only concern is that poor horse. If you own an animal and can’t read the signals it is giving you or see that there is clearly an issue here then don’t own them. This is neglect and animal abuse! You keep pushing this horse while he is lame, and you may end up having to put him down when this was totally avoidable. Do your thing but not at the expense of the animal.
@@oakiedokieee you are wrong with documented proof which there is plenty of they can give a warning letter and if not abided by to get the animal the help it needs then the animal can be removed from the situation. SPCA can and will remove animals that are being mistreated which this animal clearly is if the the lameness is being ignored and the animal is clearly in pain. Animal abuse is not just if the are being starved , there are other forms of neglect and abuse. This horse being rid in this fashion by a child while it is clearly lame is also reckless endangerment of a child. This animal could easily fall if not sound with the rider on its back. The proof has already been documented and can be monitored. If not rectified then charges can be made and the animal and possibly the children can be removed from the situation.
It's not about calling people out. It's about helping people understand when they're hurting their horses. When you " call people out" it get toxic real quick. It becomes more about the attention and less about educating people who don't know things like when a horse is lame. To much finger pointing and not enough compassion for the horse or people who don't know better. Raleigh does a great job of being helpful and informative without being judgemental. Laura and the trainers should be seeing the lameness and if they don't then their not qualified or properly informed and hopefully learn from what's being said.
@@thehybridgalaxy58 yah I get that, I guess my reply wasn't really directed towards this person in particular but the people who use " calling people out " as an excuse to look down on and judge people, which isn't what Raleigh is trying to do. From my perspective at least.
Anytime they are given advise it’s always considered “hate”. It is so frustrating watching them continue but not grow and spread misinformation as their own “facts”. No matter how many years you have a horse there is always something to learn from someone else. Thank you for making this.
That is so true - I've been around horses for 20+ years now, almost 30+ basically every day and there are still things I discover I wasn't aware of or there are new studies to show that for example previous methods of treating some injuries were not sufficient enough and we have something better now. Always, always there's room for improvement! It saddens me some people don't see that (or are such snowflakes that everything they not agree with is considered hate) and animals are hurt in the process of that like we can see in the video. It is giving me hope for the future that we have people like you and Raleigh on the good side. Thank you and have a great day ahead! :)
I've watched Day by Day and have found myself screaming at these people through the tv. It will end with tragedy when one of them brakes their neck. You can't help people like this. And there are a lot of them out there.
I have not watched them or even knew of them before now, but I agree 1M% with what you say about people like them not listening and how there are so many of them out there. Truth!
So is everyone see them now? I just seen some new stuff from them and nothing changes 😢a other horse die the little girl is still riding in a small saddle and the mom is not listening to ppl again 😢,
im so sick and tired of equestrians completely disregarding their horses lameness for the feelings of their own children/students. thank you for speaking up on this
The sadest thing is, that so many people thinks this is just fine. As a person who has worked alot with rescue horses and lameness, this breaks my heart. He is not just lame behind but also in front, and have cleary tried to tell them for awhile!
I love how you made sure not to offend their family, and was just trying to educate them. Amazing video! I hope they see this video and get him looked at…
Their fans have been trying to help them out for months but they refuse to listen. And people know what they're talking about, they're giving great advice and not being nasty about it, but Laura, mainly ignores everything and she has no idea what she's doing.
Awe my reaction as soon as Finn cantered was literally just “omg poor baby !” I think day by day is just much too ignorant and Inexperienced to be owning horses without a qualified instructor and it really is just sad. Finn has never not been a controversial horse in that family and this video is just showing that so much more. Sophie nor gabbie have the experience to ride that horse to a point where he would be comfortable and their instructors plain out suck! I feel bad that these kids don’t get the amount of positive horse experience that they deserve.
As a riding instructor/horse trainer myself, I was cringing watching the video of Finn. I feel so bad for that horse because it's obvious that he needs to be seen by a vet and he needs rest from doing lessons. I honestly wanted to cry watching that poor horse.
I think Finn has been carrying the giant flipping potato around so long his back etc are damaged by now. Not to fat shame but she's a great big clumsy unbalanced out of shape girl that literally should be on a solid fit well trained draft horse. Seriously
I’m so glad you posted this. I 100% agree that she needs a bigger horse and saddle. I agree with every point you made in this video. She needs to be balanced and confident before jumping. I never cantered or jumped for the longest time because I was shy and scared to even trot. It is just so sad to see a horse I’m so much distress and pain and the adults are ignoring this major issue. I really hope they find a new trainer and get this damn horse the attention it deserves. I really appreciate what you are doing ❤️❤️❤️
A new trainer won't help UNLESS they are willing to stand up to Laura. She think she knows better then everyone. I think she has a problem with men telling her what to do. Fiona and Brandon could say the same thing and Laura for the most part is a bit more receptive to females.
@@coffeeandhorses7991 that makes so much sense. They need someone who is confident and actually knows what they are doing. Laura also has to stop acting like she knows everything and ask others for help when it is clearly needed.
@@coffeeandhorses7991 You are absolutely correct. It is clear that Laura thinks she knows what is best, even though she knows very little. She ignores knowledgeable advice and consequently make foolish decisions. I think any trainer with integrity would hopefully evaluate their lame horses and Sophie’s lack of basics and refuse to train them unless they followed strict requirements in order to protect Sophie’s safety and the horses’ welfare.
If you look back at old videos, many of her falls have been at the canter, from very, very early on. I think a good chunk of the issue may be buried and subconscious trauma that cause fear she’s not even really noticing. She needs to to take a step back and give herself a fresh start with riding in a sense
I'm not experienced either and it hurt just watching the video. I couldn't have told it was lameness, but it's so obvious something is wrong with the poor horse😢
I don't own horses and watched just one video on spotting pain in horses and I could see it clearly. Considering the information in the horse pain video I watched, that horse is in a lot of pain. It was really hard to watch.
I am not an equestrian, but I know that a healthy horse doesn’t drag their hooves in the dirt. You can definitely see the right rear hoof drag several times.
The head bobbing is the biggest tell, if you want to be able to see it as a non-horse person. Them bobbing their head is same as if someone put a little pebble in your shoe. Sure, you could walk and try to distract from it, but you'd still be gimping around and trying to find a way to avoid the pain.
everyone needed this! DayByDay doesn't care about their horses, they just want attention...every video title is clickbait, and they act like every horse they meet is a horse they bought. I'm tired of them, and after many comments on many videos, no one has gotten them to realize what they do. The one daughter is too big (I don't normally mention weight, but when it comes to horses, I can't ignore things) to plop down in the saddle every time she posts. When one of the horses was lame, the older daughter just had him chase her around the arena and called it 'helping'. They are a nice family, but they need to read comments instead of ignoring them, which they clearly do since they haven't stopped anything. One of the horses (Chino, I think) has been lame multiple times, so clearly they aren't taking proper care of him. Thank you for making the video, I am so grateful
@@keepcalmandrideon1586 she is an over weight kid. That is a fact. Health is not based on how pretty someone is. When it come sitting on a ponies back when you are too big , not cool. Although it doesn't surprise me when daybyday chooses their horses based what colour they like ! Lol or should say which ever horse Brandon is trying to sell.
I'm in disgust. I personally took three lessons to even learn the proper footing position to maintain balance, and I wasn't allowed to trot up to six lessons after, much less canter. Now, five months later, my instructor says that I'm almost ready to step up into jumping at a canter. Sophie needs to take a large step back and relearn proper balance and stability, then work her way up to trotting, cantering, and then jumping. If Laura isn't able to tell that Finn can't give the best for himself or Sophie, both him and Sophie are going to suffer in the long run. Laura should be ashamed of herself for not noticing that as a "responsible" equestrian, and the trainer Laura hired for Sophie needs to refuse to teach her. I blame neither Finn nor Sophie, both of them are doing exactly what anyone would do in such situation.
I’m glad you mentioned this. I’ve ridden horses just a few times before, just on walks, but on the last one I was on a few years ago I tried to go a bit faster than a walk at a few points. Don’t have a lot of experience with horses body language at all. I’m athletic but I definitely don’t have enough experience or knowledge to be trying that
Im three months late to ur comment, but YES i agree. Horseback riding lessons are not the only time riders should be working on balance, in fact I tell every student to be working on leg and core strength and balance at home so that they can come prepared to lessons.
I’ve been doing horseback riding for two years I had to start over at a different trainer but this trainer is super good I’m on trot after like more than ten lessons so I can feel comfortable and my good instructor goes to a different place but I’m with a different one at the same place and she is super good at teaching me and going to were I left off on trot
I made a huge mistake and sold my mare Polly to their trainer. After having them show up and pick her up I watched their videos. I am now so scared for Polly’s well-being.
Tysm for posting this Raleigh! I was riding a horse one day and my instructor couldn’t tell he was lame when we where walking, but when we started trotting he was tripping and not wanting to use one of his legs, my instructor saw this and immediately told me to get off and untack him. They are trying to get him better now.
It’s crazy how these people clearly don’t see that their horse is lame. Now I’m no professional vet or whatever, but i know enough about horses to see that this horse is clearly in pain and extremely uncomfortable.
This is not riding a horse, this is horse abuse. With this weight, on this horse its abuse. Sitting (she can’t ride) on this sick horse, makes the horse more sick. How can you do this, you must be ashamed off yourself. Give this girl a horse for her size, breeds enough, and learn her to ride properly.
I’ve been riding for nearly 10 years, the highest I’ve jumped is 70cm...I’d love to jump higher but there are still things I need to work on before I can do that, and my instructor has told me this. There’s no problem with taking everything a bit slower, there’s no need to through yourself into things you aren’t ready for. They really need to get a better trainer, and maybe yaknow get The vet out to see Finn and not ride him (woah mind blowing that when a horse is lame you shouldn’t ride them).
this needed to be said. I started riding only about 2 years ago and my trainer always told me and taught me about the importance of balance before jumping.
She thinks we are all judging her child's riding and that alone. She doesn't comprehend he is in clear pain and that is what we are concerned about. It's upsetting as a riding instructor to see another instructor not bothering to stop this family from riding that poor pony. Unfortunately I feel in this case, their instructor is not as educated as they'd like to believe or he is one of many that is just trying to get money out of clueless parents while risking the health of Finn. She had posted something on the gram to the tune of 'its sad people can't learn in a judgment free zone'. If she actually was willing to learn and educate herself on equine health, perhaps we all wouldn't be calling her out. But she hasn't shown one ounce of willingness to learn. It's quite upsetting. I hope poor Finn gets some much deserved rest and healing time, unfortunately I feel he will only get that once he's injured himself to a state that no one can deny that he's in pain and potentially risk his soundness permanently :(
I spent ages trying to work out what was wrong with my horse’s back/legs/feet when he kept tripping. Found out eventually that he had been going blind. Movements were fine once I started doing the watching out for him (and he was very trusting)
I feel like the ponies lameness comes mostly from his back, it bothers him that Sophie's seat is not balanced and supportive enough. Every step he takes she falls into the saddle and puts pressure on his visibly weak back.
@@WhoTao...lameness is where the horse is in pain and doesn’t want to work so it’s basically like what u see in this video like dragging their feet bobbing their head
All the head bobbing is just making me so sad… i can almost feel his pain in my leg. Thank you so much for bring this up. We need more people in this world like you. You do such an amazing job at addressing the problems and it is incredible!
My honest opinion on DayByDay isn’t a nice one. I think that they pay trainers to let them do what they want. Whether or not the kid can ride good enough. I think that they just care about themselves, that they are selfish. It’s incredibly obvious that Finn is lame. They do not care. No offense but Sophie doesn’t ride well. That’s fine, but she should not be allowed to be jumping at this point in her riding. She also is jumping a lame horse. I think they are selfish. And honestly I’m hoping that they are ignorant, and not purposefully damaging their horse.
yes, I definitely agree. my mum, a vet of 30 years has also said that they need to stop riding him. this could eventually end in Finn breaking his leg if anything was to happen or they don't do something soon it could unfortunately end in him having to be put down. thank you for coming on here and using your large amount of following to speak up about this. I have been riding for a long time and I completely agree that she should not even be cantering yet let alone jumping. thanks!
I actually saw that video and it made me verbally scream. The poor thing. Like, I'm lost for words, it's so infuriating to watch. And it's not the kids fault, she's just doing what the adults are telling her to do. It's just disheartening to watch and see that there are people out there like this, who are just so damn ignorant, they won't even help their animal. It's truly disgusting.
No matter the price I will buy this horse from them. Finn deserves so much better this is abuse and they can get in trouble for neglecting their horses needs.
I wish you would buy him. They could then get a bigger more experienced horse and a bigger saddle that fits her. And Finn could possibly have a more rounded life with experienced and knowledgeable people. Just my opinion.
It’s good that there are people like you who hope to reach out and spend money on a rescue just for the benefit of the horse even if you can’t the want is great
I’m genuinely amazed that Finn is still being an absolute saint. That horse puts up with so much and yet he still hasn’t tried to throw her off every ride. They wonder why their horses try to run away in the paddock when they come to bring them in 🙄 I really really hope that they actually listen to this advice for once 🥺
I don't watch daybyday so I don't know anything about them, but when you played the first clip it only took me 10 seconds to immediately realize that horse is in a lot of pain.
My lesson instructor noticed how my seat was while cantering in a western saddle, and she stuck me to trotting in English. Once I was able to keep my legs still, and get my feet to stay in the stirrups correctly, we tried cantering! I don’t always canter after every lesson, but we do it for practice. I’m very grateful I found my trainer. ❤
What also gets me is that this just shows me that she isn't even ready to have her own horse. If you as a rider can't FEEL these things, then you aren't capable.
I wouldn't be too harsh on the kiddo. She looks like she's maybe 12, and there's a chance that maybe she DID notice something at the beginning, and said something, but her mom and/or trainer told her 'He's Fine'.
I agree with Raleigh. Anyone else see his hind is is wonkey and he steps through almost pushing out and not under himself. That also might be from hollowing out his back
They have made a response video to this that is absolutely bizarre, and the only explanation for it in my mind, is that they must have far more money than sense. As is par for the course for Day by Day, the title is click bait. Laura starts off by trying to elicit emotion from supporters by calling this video a "hate video". She then tries to distract viewers by repeatedly saying that Raleigh diagnosed their horse in a video, when Raleigh did no such thing. She then tries to get her viewers to believe that Raleigh, who has three times the number of subs, is trying to use them for views. Next, she goes into this rambling explanation of how they have dealt with this supposedly non-existant problem. Multiple visits from a chiropractor (but not a vet). Explaining how they know Sophie is too tall for the horse (but no mention of her weight). Telling how they know the horse becomes bracey in corners because he is anticipating Sophie unbalancing him (but no mention of why they have her jumping a horse that she cannot even ride into corners). Emphasizing that they know the saddle does not fit Sophie, but that it fits Finn, and it's so important to them that he is comfortable (but they are fine with her flopping around and unbalancing him). Having their daughter ride another horse sometimes, so they don't "rip her away from Finn" (just...wha?? 🤣). Then she shows a video of their trainer trotting around on a well-balanced looking Finn, though we don't see him canter, and that was the primary gait showing the hind end issues. At the very least, it demonstrates to everyone just how incredibly uncomfortable the horse is when her daughter rides him. So basically Laura tells us the 5 million things they have done to solve a supposedly non-existant problem, except a) have the horse evaluated by a vet, and b) have their child stop riding a horse she is too heavy for. The grand finale is her husband, who looks like he was just woken from his nap, call Raleigh and anyone else that does not agree with this insanity, "crackpots". Of course he never actually addresses any of the issues brought to light by the so-called crackpots. Pardon me for saying that people who seem to collect horses and ponies for a hobby, but are unable to provide their child with a single horse that matches both her size and ability, seem far more crackpot-ish to me 😏
You've written an excellent summary of their video . Did you see the one where Sophie was riding Buddy, a lesson horse who wiped out in the corner because he was even less strong than Finn . They blocked her fall which was shown back in October, but Sophie said a few days later on, that Buddy fell on top of her. She was so lucky that she walked away unharmed from that , but they acted as if it was nothing , apart from calling the video, "SHE HAD A REALLY BAD FALL." We can all see what's going to end up being even worse than that, apart from this family apparently, if things don't get quickly changed.
@@annieridesagain3262 I did see that, ugh, the whole thing was incredibly cringey. Riding corners is important, and not everyone learns to do it well. Even people who have been riding a long time may cut their corners, and not understand how to approach them correctly. Many horses also do not learn how to enter a corner and round their bodies laterally through it. Corners are a great training tool for humans and horses, and consequently, they are also indicative of holes in the training of both. In addition to spending hours on a longe line at all gaits with no stirrups, I would also like to see Sophie (on a horse that is a schoolmaster and the correct size for her) spend time working on her corners. First with four cones, riding a square, and then riding deep in and out of the corners of the arena. I dunno about you, but the vibe I get from this family is very much instant gratification. They buy horses left and right, and they rush training of both the kids and the horses. At this point they have so many plates spinning in the air, it is no wonder poor Sophie is not making progress. And I'm also sure that sibling rivalry is a factor, the desire to keep up with her sister. I feel deeply for Sophie, I think many of us do. I worry about the well-being of this little girl, in the public eye every day of her life. With people writing and talking about her all the time...Laura and Sam really need to step back and *look* at the chaos that is their child's life and ask themselves if this is really the best they can offer her. 😔
@@mrskaa7584 they will just blame everything on other people. So I don't see it happening. Laura is incapable of taking personal responsibility and always puts blame on subscribers. She only likes the ones that kiss her ass.
My mother has those magnetic stirrups. She had serious Achilles surgeries so it helps her, but she was at least able to keep the stirrup correct on her foot before. She just likes the extra help. Personally, I despise them. I have old Springer stirrups from 2003. That poor horse is so painfully lame in the back. Besides a holiday, he needs a long vet visit. I think you’re spot on about being afraid of the mother. I hate seeing trainers risk their clients’ safety and the wellbeing of the horse to appease a parent who needs a reality check
Poor horse, it breaks my heart to see how generous he is despite he’s in pain. He also jumps when no other horse would (because the girl is unbalancing him all the time). He does everything on his own, poor boy 🥺
I've been riding for about 4 year's and I don't jump much yet although I have jumped a bit and honestly before you learn to jump you should need to learn balance and position. They are still learning but it's definitely good that you pointed this out and try to help them.
Yes. I have been riding for about 12 years but my jumping instructor will still put the jumps down to groundpoles and will basically politely say "no we are not going to jump cause I don't like how you are riding your horse". And then we train on that and eventually he will put some jumps back up but never like a normal junping lesson
i’ve been watching them for a long time and even my own trainer who just got a glance at the video said right away “ i think that horse is lame” and here we are
@@LeviAckerman11361 it’s the ball looking joint above the hoof. when a horse moves, it usually flexes a little bit, but his almost touch the ground and that’s usually a sign of pain/uncomfortability
This honestly makes me so sad you see over her one jump that the only reason she didn’t fall off was because of the stirrups I do hope they help this horse he’s such a lovely gelding :(
Sadly they probably don't because the mother rather let her horse suffer than listens to advice as she considers it hate and that she knows everything.
Best explanation of lameness I've ever heard is... If you twist your ankle you can still walk you can still run etc but you should rest it maybe see a doctor If you don't you could sprain it and it will get worse and should now definitely rest it and definitely see a doctor If you don't your at a much higher risk of tendon tears/ injuries etc which can then require surgery and have extensive permanent damage Once your at that point your gunna be wishing you had of just rested and got everything checked when it was a very mild manageable injury The same applies for horses and lameness!!!! Learn the symptoms and treat early!!!!
I'm seeing back problems, as well. Maybe from the too small saddle and all the weight of Sophie on such a small area. And/or hip problems. I'd be interested in watching him get tacked up and see how he behaves while having the cinch tightened and with her getting on.
@@EquusKeepusBrokus9791 But remember... the vet came out and checked him and he's not lame 🙄 Ridiculous family. Laura's horse, Penny, had a suspensory injury but instead of stall rest, she's been out in the pasture everyday with the ponies. This family doesn't know what rest means.
@@SassySorrelFilly oh, you’ll love this! You know how for whatever reason Laura lives for “trail rides”. Even tho she is scared to ride her own horse… but anyway, yesterday they went on a trail ride. But they didn’t ride. They walked the horses on lead ropes. And it wasn’t on a trail. It was down the middle of the road in front of their farm. A snowy road. An icy road. A snowy and icy road with cars. I have a headache.
@@songbirds3712 oh my lord. I remember a video from way back when the girls and Kayleigh (Gabby's friend that seemed to have dropped off the face of the planet). Sophie cried and Laura WALKED the whole length of the ride. Like up and down hills. Sophie crying because she was scared of her pony. It was ridiculous. So now Laura is scared of her own horse. The neverending cycle. And the trail "walk" on icy roads and all that? Not shocked at all. Common horsey sense they do not have.
I am so glad you have brought this up Raleigh. We have been saying this for months Sophies riding on Finn for years. Every horse they have has had an issue. You are right Laura reads all our comments but never acknowledge or takes the advice given. They are going to end up with 4 of their big horses lame or worse. Everyone who knows anything about horses and their structure have given suggestions and comments. But they have been ignored. People are trying to help this family. Laura has a big problem of collecting, instead of finding an experienced person to help them find the horses they need. It is truly sad. We have all said the same as you have pointed out. You know they will probably not watch your video, which they should. Thank you again Raleigh, we all feel the pain for these beautiful horses.
Their horses consistently go lame due to their lack of good experience and the way they ride their horses. I've commented countless times giving constructive criticism about how to help their flatwork and keep their horses sound, but they always ignore them and continue to ride their horses into the ground. It's infuriating. Their horses are such saints, especially Finn.
I’ve been blocked for months because they can’t take the truth, I wasn’t even rude. They can’t take criticism and when they address it it’s in a childish way, Laura hides behind her children “learning” to avoid criticism. I’ve said since they got Finn that they do not match whatsoever and getting him was a mistake, Finn is hollow, neck counter bent and always getting his mouth ripped on. And better yet HE gets the blame for it all always, I keep hoping for someone to pretty much “rescue” Finn. He needs help
Same here😂. I have had 2 UA-cam channels blocked and my Instagram. And I am damn proud of it because it tells me I got under Laura’s thin skin by being upfront and honest (according to her, mean and hateful). Suck it up, buttercup.
I was blocked months ago. I have a second account that will allow me to comment but not respond to anything so it always looks like a hit and run when I post. LOL Pretty sure I know who is doing the moderating for DBD and who they target.
Ohh, poor Finn.. His little hind legs are dragging pretty bad, the dude's totally lame in the rear I agree. Also, that canter was- poor dude, he's struggling so bad there. I'm worried about the girl but I really feel bad for that horse.
I just came back to this video, and I had a realization.. part of the issue with Finn could be his rider. If she's not balanced, she might be putting too much pressure on his back, and it's causing long term pain for him- also the tack just doesn't fit her. Part of me thinks if they give Finn a long break from riding (and possibly invest in a vet specializing in lameness) he'd see some improvement. ~ A person now training to be a livestock vet :)
i think they just need to stop owning horses period. They can keep riding and taking lessons (lord knows they need them) but they do not need or deserve to keep buying horses.
What's sad is we've all tried to talk to them, and we end up getting frustrated and end up saying something hurtful to grab Laura's attention then the next three videos are of her talking about people's judgment against her or her family..no. we are seriously trying to help! 😔😔 It's going to get to the point where Finn can't be ridden anymore.. which breaks my heart.
Finn is so sweet. I would defiantly buy him. Anyone notice that they using a Western bridle and an English bridle? I have been wanting to jump bigger for a while but my instructor tells me that I will one day, but when I am ready then I will. Please someone send help to Daybyday
This is scary. I remember a instructor made me ride this newly shod school horse that was done too short and feet sore. I told them that their feet seemed tender when I was picking them clean, and that I would like to ride someone else. They said, I ride that horse or none at all. I don't think they would let my mother refund the lesson that day either. I was 15 at the time. I kept him on a very loose rein, basically no hands for the flat work. When the instructor told me to collect my reins, I said, "No." Soon after I refused to jump him or ride further, because he tripped on the canter. The instructor said, "Good job for noticing your horse was sore." I said, "Then why did you make me ride him then!" Basically lost half of my lesson and they forced a minor to ride a sore horse. Looking back, I should have just gone home from the beginning. I felt sooo bad, for letting them convince me that it was ok to still ride him. I got a different instructor the next day and so should this family!
Yeah I was kinda waiting for this. Kinda sucks that you need to make a video on it, just listening to the comments once or opening their eye balls and the issue would be fixed and you wouldn’t need to talk about it.
I’ve been seeing the lameness for months and I’m grateful that you are speaking up about it 👏👏
Even Laura needs to go up a horse i think.
It was bad enough with Chino being lame constantly. I had to stop watching because they weren't listening to anything people were trying to help out with. And now Gabby has ANOTHER horse? I definitely give up.

In short: That girl NEEDS to lose weight, not just for any horse's sake, but for hers as well.
This Family just wants to be parents not good parents that girl is too big for that horse and saddle! Holy cow anyone can see that.
@@robertazacharias7766 I was shocked the moment I saw this. Omgosh, poor horse...in pain and over burdened.
This made me tear up, the last sentence is so true, fkn humans 💔
And when the horse is too lame and its too late, these people will dump the horse at a kill pen.
Honestly I think horses are just to good for humans, humans are so fucking wasteful. I find it concerning that Sophie still jumps.. Poor finn, personally haven't watched their channel (I don't think they should be on UA-cam) but it's so obvious his lame!
The sweet ones always get taken advantage of, its so sad 😞
I know, right? Why do the sweetest of horses always go to the most incompetent, attention-hungry people?
Whenever Finn bobs his head, they always just say hes "spicy" or "crazy"
which is so crazy because he's so calm and trying his best to help the rider even though he's in pain
It’s insane bc he’s put up with so much and if he was spicy he would’ve bucked her off already
Well... this horse has more or less no balance or muscle.
Hahahahha, people 🙄
Laura is “crazy”

@ICU349so what if she’s fat? It’s still the mothers fault for allowing the girl to ride a small horse
I agree completely with you! He has such a kind nature 😊 which is his downfall because he isnt throwing her or bronking they will just ignore it…
I can tell you hands down that even if my saddle pad is sitting incorrectly then my horse bloody tells me 😂
There’s usually a very slight bob in their head/short step (Notice in the video he throws his head up completely when it starts to hurt). If you’re not sure then my best advice is to get in contact with a vet and get a video of your horse trotting. Send them the videos if you believe your horse is lame.

And building that strength and finding the balance, especially when you have more weight flopping around is extremely important, and then you can actually be confident and ride well and have more fun! Thanks for making these videos, they always teach me more.
Also wear tighter fitting cloths help to hold you together helps. I have four students that are bigger and they said it was the best thing they did.
(and the ponies they ride!)
ua-cam.com/video/dHSsJTn3kh4/v-deo.html
I’m so happy to hear you say that, I think any person should be able to ride if they have the proper tack and horse that fits them along with appropriate ridding abilities
maybe riding western or dressage would help get better balance ( and riding with no stirrups) and a different sound quiet horse.
Yes this! I personally think it’s also telling the their trainer hasn’t said anything about both Finns when both aren’t sound
I completely agree with you on this
Hey from Australia… also it’s really sickening watching them blatantly ignore this horse displaying that he is in pain but also the horse STILL takes such good care of his young rider so so sad
At the very least it shows that Finn is truly a great horse. I can’t even imagine how amazing he would be if he were in better condition! It’s just a shame they don’t realize it.
Just seen a vlog from day by day and they're actually rehoming finn to a new family, YESS! I hope he manages to get the help he needs if he's still lame, I'm so glad they've decided to rehome him 🥰
Thats great ❤❤❤
Ah thats soooo good to know 😍😍
Thank God
I just hope it's a home where he's can be turned out to pasture and just be a good companion animal because he is an absolute angel of a horse.
irresponsible to do that if they haven't bothered to get a vet out to him first.. I really hope a vet has looked over him
Daybyday is really lucky to have such a nice horse like Finn.
Same human I had no idea he was lame and had little knowledge on lameness but this video has helped me be better at noticing the signs
@Carina Hildrum Not people's problems if you're illiterate by choice.
The fact that Raleigh is still being respectful but honest, still thinking about the kids feelings. It's amazing.
the fact hes uncomfortable and hes still trying his best , he seems like such a great and good horse
Agreed a true horse person always puts their horse and their needs first
SPCA can’t do anything unless a horse has no access to food or water
Thank god, someone acknowledges this! This needed to be called out.
Edited to avoid confusion :)
@@jaywehmer4506 I don't think they meant it like that. I think they meant like, call out as in "talk about it"
@@thehybridgalaxy58 yah I get that, I guess my reply wasn't really directed towards this person in particular but the people who use " calling people out " as an excuse to look down on and judge people, which isn't what Raleigh is trying to do. From my perspective at least.

Anytime they are given advise it’s always considered “hate”. It is so frustrating watching them continue but not grow and spread misinformation as their own “facts”. No matter how many years you have a horse there is always something to learn from someone else. Thank you for making this.
You are absolutely right. Learning never stops.

Bingo! I can only watch a few channels, i just get too worked up & pissed off
I have to admire Finn’s strength to still be trotting and cantering as well as he is and not throwing a tantrum
The sadest thing is, that so many people thinks this is just fine. As a person who has worked alot with rescue horses and lameness, this breaks my heart. He is not just lame behind but also in front, and have cleary tried to tell them for awhile!

They don't want your help, they want fame.
She needs to to take a step back and give herself a fresh start with riding in a sense
ua-cam.com/video/dHSsJTn3kh4/v-deo.html
Im not very experienced in spotting lameness and even I can notice it. Poor Finn! 😭
Finn is such a saint for putting up with this

@@keepcalmandrideon1586 she is an over weight kid. That is a fact. Health is not based on how pretty someone is. When it come sitting on a ponies back when you are too big , not cool.
And when I trot I definitely have a good horse to do what it’s suppose to and thing and I have not outgrown any of the horses yet
And my freind is going to the place I go there to
I made a huge mistake and sold my mare Polly to their trainer. After having them show up and pick her up I watched their videos. I am now so scared for Polly’s well-being.
Are you talking about the big grey Percheron Polly, or is your horse another Polly?
Tysm for posting this Raleigh!
Movements were fine once I started doing the watching out for him (and he was very trusting)
let’s give a round of applause to the saint of a pony Finn is

Thank you for making this video, it's awful that they can't or refuse to realize he's hurting
I feel like the ponies lameness comes mostly from his back, it bothers him that Sophie's seat is not balanced and supportive enough. Every step he takes she falls into the saddle and puts pressure on his visibly weak back.

I love how respectful you are in this video. Even tho I know it pained you. Especially with the 20%.
It’s good that there are people like you who hope to reach out and spend money on a rescue just for the benefit of the horse even if you can’t the want is great
SO true!

They would just use that money to buy another victim
Has anyone noticed that Sophie hasn't ridden Finn since all this was brought out in the open. Makes you wonder huh?
"rip the horse away" thats because any other horse would promptly buck her off.
Magnetic stirrups?! I’m still trying to reattach my jaw. Finn needs a long holiday. The instructor is afraid of the mother.
Props to Finn! He’s lame yet still does his best for his rider. What an absolute saint
Poor horse, it breaks my heart to see how generous he is despite he’s in pain. He also jumps when no other horse would (because the girl is unbalancing him all the time). He does everything on his own, poor boy 🥺

I reported this
@@sandrastevens4418 I'm hoping everyone does
Yes. I have been riding for about 12 years but my jumping instructor will still put the jumps down to groundpoles and will basically politely say "no we are not going to jump cause I don't like how you are riding your horse". And then we train on that and eventually he will put some jumps back up but never like a normal junping lesson
@@Lazyspaceout
It's horrific and he says on his channel funny and entertaining videos. I almost threw up
Hey Raleigh. I am so thankful someone noticed this 🥰
i’ve been watching them for a long time and even my own trainer who just got a glance at the video said right away “ i think that horse is lame” and here we are
Does anyone else see Finn’s fetlocks touching the ground (especially while cantering)? That horse is such a saint, poor guy
Hey! If you don't mind me asking, what is a fetlock? I'm not an equestrian nor do I ride 😅 (i just find horses cool lol)
@@LeviAckerman11361 it’s the ball looking joint above the hoof. when a horse moves, it usually flexes a little bit, but his almost touch the ground and that’s usually a sign of pain/uncomfortability
Yes. Was just going to say the very same thing smh.
@@teijaflink2226 That’s exactly how I see it also.

Best explanation of lameness I've ever heard is...
If you twist your ankle you can still walk you can still run etc but you should rest it maybe see a doctor
If you don't you could sprain it and it will get worse and should now definitely rest it and definitely see a doctor
If you don't your at a much higher risk of tendon tears/ injuries etc which can then require surgery and have extensive permanent damage
Once your at that point your gunna be wishing you had of just rested and got everything checked when it was a very mild manageable injury
The same applies for horses and lameness!!!!
I agree. Besides I’ll fitting tack , her saddle needs a better pad too. This poor horse needs many months of rest and a supportive care with a vet
Omg seriously , I cannot watch them I get to angry 😫😫 plus I don’t want to give them any views 😂😂
The way I criiiiiiiiiiiiinged 😖 when he said, “that’s okay, let’s go again!” 😭😱😣
I am so glad you have brought this up Raleigh. We have been saying this for months
Sophies riding on Finn for years.
@@HonestEQ Gotta love being blocked for being a “hater”, Im blocked on instagram too 🤣
Same
Finn is out here, just doing his best to do what they ask of him even though he’s hurting.
That poor horse is trying SO HARD, even while obviously feeling SO MUCH pain. 😞
Thank you for speaking up for him and for horses everywhere. ❤️
He is such a good horse. He is that lame and he still did what was asked of him. This is why we as humans do not deserve these beautiful animals.
They've since sold this horse and are now apparently buying this child an ottb that just turned 5. I feel like this is going to go even worse.
Ikr, when I saw that video at first I was really happy, but when they said it's a five yo my smile faded 😭
i think they just need to stop owning horses period. They can keep riding and taking lessons (lord knows they need them) but they do not need or deserve to keep buying horses.
And then they bought a foal… -_-
Just waiting for someone to add on at this point lol
I just hope Laura doesn't buy sophie an unhandled wild mustang as her next horse because that would be an expensive visit to the emergency room
Omg seriously?! An Ottb that’s 5? ER here they come!
I'm so happy i found your channel, such a good source of proper animal wellbeing source! I learn so much from just a few videos and I love it!
THANK YOU. I was hoping that this would be addressed at some point because there is so much going on and it should be talked about more
Finn is so sweet.
I bet you’re musty
@@kotsosm musty?
Thank you for coming out and telling people to look out for these things we appreciate it Raleigh✨
Yeah I was kinda waiting for this. Kinda sucks that you need to make a video on it, just listening to the comments once or opening their eye balls and the issue would be fixed and you wouldn’t need to talk about it.
