Thank you for taking the time to create this fantastic comparison! I've been blown away by the Herbert and VH4 pedals the last couple weeks and have been wondering how they'd possibly stack up compared to the full amp. That's where your video answers the question. And with the KSR it becomes it's own sort of beast. Brilliant video and thanks again!!
Wonderful! This is the only video on youtube which shows properly how the pedal is comparing to the amplifier ! I also like the preamp pedal more than the synergy module soundwise,I don't know if the feeling it's better on the module,I own just the preamp pedal. Thanks for another great comparison video!
This is really awesome! I have the VH4 pedal but I always wondered what the Herbert pedal would be like. The PA 50 does a very good job with that preamp. Thanks for making this video! 🤘
Definitely seems like the pedal and module cut off some of the top end or round it out maybe but it does give you that Diezel flavor for sure. Thanks for the comparison!
Brilliant! Comparison Testing with short phrases of guitar ALONE. This is the way to do it, folks! And to my old ears through my iPad, this pedal is a reasonable substitute. First 3 minutes or so, anyway. Let’s hear the rest. Ok, by 10:00, I am ready to ask: did you use a looper to guarantee that phrases into both pedal and amp were the same? Outstanding!
Thank you Ike! I appreciate the feedback. I find it easiest to compare gear when I have an as direct reference as possible, hence the toggling sections at the end. I did not use a looper. I had considered reamping or looping earlier this year when I started making videos but ultimately decided againts it because I believe the way an amp or pedal feels influences the way you play to an extent so I opted for playing the same riffs for each specimen as accurately as I could for the shootouts. I may incorporate reamping sections in the future as well!
i came for the gear but stayed for the playing! You have a great style and your chord voicings and choices are so refreshing. Could you link some of your own music?
Man, thanks for making my day. There are a few soundcloud links on my youtube page but that stuff is pretty old. UA-cam has spawned quite a few riffs that I want to develope into full songs though
Just wanted to say thank you. Great VID. The Bonus footage at the end was a nice touch! Keep up the good work, What was your favourite? (Mine was the OG, but damn the pedal comes close, just missing a touch of that bottom end!?)
Hey man. Yeah! The amp is one of the best ever but the pedal really nails the tone for just a fraction of the price. It has no business sounding that good. Very impressive
Ever since I got that Diezel earworm I was wondering how they would stack up - thanks for another great comparison video! I'm amazed how close they sound - especially compared to CH3! The pedal might trade a bit of clarity for a little more perceived oomph in the bass but it really sounds convincing to me. What really got me though was that the characteristics of the boosted pedal reminded me of that transformation you mentioned in the last D-Moll shootout. You mentioned the feel of the Herbert - did they really even get that characteristic into the pedal?! (I guess if Peter&Peter designed the pedal - it sounds like them to get that) As always - awesome and looking forward to the next one! Cheers!
Thanks man. Always appreciate your observations. Did they get the boosted feel right? Yeah, kinda. It's not as noticeable as the low ends of these two differ ever so slightly but it's similar enough for me to find it feels like a Herbert
I love mine. I couldn’t afford the big Herbert and my REVV D-20 still sounds awfully close with the pedal in the effects loop. I’m a garage player so there is really no reason for me to ever have the big amp. The pedal does the trick for a tenth of the price. As always…. Great riffs.
That's hard to answer because the low end in the room will be strongly dependant on the power amp you use. As far as the amps voicing goes, I think the pedal nails it shockingly well
Agree. The KSR is an amazingly powerful and versatile power amp. There are still some differences, yes. At the same time I'm still amazed at how well this 300€ pedal stacks up against a 3000€ amp. Thanks for commenting.
I think the winning affordable combo would be KSR power amp you use in the video plus Diezel pedal plus a Fractal Axe FX FM9 and never need anything else again for a lifetime.
Awesome video....I recently got this pedal and for the most part it sounds great....but it gives an echoing pinging sound on upper note palm mutes. Anybody else getting this?? Its kind of annoying.
isnt it closer to MK I? My MK I had that kind of thick compression going on, though I think Diezel claims only transformers have changed or something like that
Yeah. Transformers, pcb layout, additional footswitch connection, the clean channel got more headroom and the bias test points and pots were moved inside of the amp. One of my earliest videos is a comparison between Herbert mk 1 and mk 2 and they are very very close to each other
for way less cash, the pedal is a no brainer. I already have many high gain amp heads so figure why not? Get the Diezel pedal and front of clean channel on tube amp can get nice tones. Maybe if like that then save for larger amp head like the real Diezel later on.
The pedal is going through the Diezel in the first part to compare just the preamps. In the second part the pedal is going through a KSR PA50 power amp to compare full rigs
The Amp for sure has the Magic, but the pedal has some magic to it as well.

@@TheOtherJohnBrowne superb vid and this info is also great
Diezel amps are incredible. I was comparing my Herbert and Vh4 last night for fun.

The lower gain tones on this amp are surprisingly amazing.
The Herbert is underrated in its versatility. It's so much more than just a metal amp
Great demo ! I found a Diezel Herbert pedal and it would be a great addition to my rig ;)

@@TheOtherJohnBrowne Thanks, brother.
KSR with Herbert pedal WOW!
Nuts. Sometimes the amp sounds better.. Sometimes the pedal.. Could come down to slight settings differences. Cray cray crayzeee!
Absolutely! It's an amazing pedal that really surprised me!
Awesome stuff mate 🎉🎉🎉
I think the pedal sounds best with the Ksr power amp, a bit more dynamic, there is still some differences with the real amp, but sounds good
Agree. The KSR is an amazingly powerful and versatile power amp.

Very cool. You should try the Zerrer as well. It sounds huuuuuge... it also is huge ;)

@@TheOtherJohnBrowne agree and the path I am leaning toward after sell off my Uberschall and smaller amps
@@GuitarsAndSynths I recently got an FM3 and can confirm, Fractal are amazing
that amp is on the wish list
I'd be curious how it sounds in the effects loop with the guitar plugged in front on the clean channel
Interesting idea. Sadly I don't have the pedal anymore. Might try it with the VH4 pedal I still have
Best high gain ever!!!!!

I cant wait to plug this bad boy into fxloop on my mesa roadster
Sounds like a wicked combo, man! Please do report back if you liked it
I prefer the pedal....smoother highs on gain structure
DIEZELLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hated my Hervert pedal til i ran it thru the right amp..
What were you using it with and what turned out to be the right amp for you?
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne first was a Marshall Mf350..now i run it thru a JCM2000 DSL
@@tribalrivalkillaiii-iv-vii8952 Big fan of the DSL! In fact I have a video going live with it in it today 😂
The amp is better.
Pedal sounds lifeless with more (annoying) highs in comparison. Monitored on a smartphone.
They sound damn near identical with minor differences
