I didnt put timestamps on this one because I think the whole thing is worth a watch! It's really the whole experience. I know its multiple days into a single video but I could only go 4 days without my Garmin. Hope you enjoy and Happy New Years Everyone!
Timestamp is a god way to see if you'll even bring up any of the aspects I'm interested in. I won't watch 8 minutes to find out. I'll be the judge of what is worth watching on my part.
I’ve been considering this ring for a long time but haven’t pulled the trigger. Your use didn’t make me want to run out and get one either. I’ll look forward to your updates.
Thanks for the support brother! I Have my first half marathon next month so id love to do a deep comparison on the metrics during the race and after for recovery on all 3.
I just got the Oura ring, but I am wearing my Garmin watch in the day and the Oura ring only while I go to bed. I think this is a great strategy as it seemed like the ring is great for sleep & health and the Garmin is great for workouts & running.
That's what I thought. It's kinda hard to sleep with the Epix. Also trying out the Vivoactive 5 while sleeping, so far I may like it more than the Oura Ring. Barely notice the Vivoactive 5. It weighs nothing and I like how it integrates with my Epix.@@Aesthetic_Al
If you start the activity into the Strava app itself, it will then export it into the Oura app. You can either leave oura on or use an external HR strap!
I tried the middle finger lifting, but found the index finger was better. I keep it on for weights, chin ups, etc. i did find I hade to move it slightly distal.
I see a ring wearable as an accessory to people with a fitness tracker in situations that you don’t want to wear a fitness watch too. Like a formal event for example or any situation you want to wear a bracelet or dare I say an actual watch.
On the fence between a Garmin and a smart ring - use case is to track outdoor runs, VO2 max, HRVs, get insights about recovery, training readiness etc. Which one do you suggest?
Easily a Garmin if you want to track outdoor runs. I am using both now for a few months. I love my recovery metrics and app from Oura. But it's not very practical if you are wanting that level of fitness tracking. Outdoor runs (pavement or trail)
I was thinking to buy an Oura ring but just learnt there is a subscription cost. That's a no go for me. All the smartwatch companies I know are able to get profit without any subscription. So Oura should be able to do this too. These subscription everywhere even where there is no need are really annoying.
I agree. I could see subscription being a good model if you didn't have to purchase the product and could return and cancel later on. I prefer the Purchase model. One time and done.
yeah, I am ready to jump to what you do. I went from AW to Garmin because want to track more of my sleep and recovery without having to worry about when to charge. But I really miss the “smart” aspect of the AW. I think ouraring and AW combination sounds attractive.
I think that the only reason to wear one of this is to avoid wearing a garmin all the time to track, steps, sleep and heart rate. I love mechanical watches but I want at the same time to track everything. That's why I don't understand why garmin is not doing a smart ring 😁
Also thanks for your review onntbe Shokz Open fit ear buds. I love love love them 💕 I wear them continually. The only downside is I forget i have them on sometimes and almost get in shower w them. Occasionally one will fall out bc i wear long hair not pulled back so i have to be careful if they are in my ear not turned on, catch my hair. Not an issue w exercise bc my hair pulled back. That obviously wasn’t in your review bc of your short hair. I use bone conduction in pool only 🏊🏻♀️
@@Aesthetic_Al 👍 OpenSwim bone conduction are great underwater sound too. Sound is also good when I doing a kick set or walk pool laps with head out but superior sound underwater. I wear my ear plugs to keep water out- molded to fit by audiologist. Sound is best w ear plugs in underwater.
I have the AW Ultra (Series 1) and Epix Pro 2. Much more accurate from my experience and I'm so impressed by its accuracy on naps. The App is what I want to cover on next. So easily presented with practical advice. Hope this helps@@icarus3234
@@Aesthetic_Al i wear a garmin vivosmart 4 or 5 with sleep feedback but it only does pulse ox for a few hours not whole night. I swim w an older polar heart. I care more about overall health, fitness, vo2 max, and esp sleep quality. Im struggling w sleep quality. Not race training. I would buy the aura if it could give quality sleep metrics. Thanks.
I am so impressed on the Oura ring. Especially on the recovery metrics but the app how it presents them (then again this week Garmin is updating its app, after years 🤣). I have a race next month, ill be really pushing for. Going to make a video on comparing the metrics on all 3. (AW, Garmin, Oura)
How has it been going with the ring? Have you gone back to the Garmin at all? Anything you miss from Garmin? Recovery similar between the 2? @@Aesthetic_Al
Well I started using my Garmin again 4 days after this video. I am using both at the moment now. I really miss all the activity tracking features from Garmin. The metrics are SO SIMILAR. Except nap detection. My Garmin experience with naps is not a good one. But My Sleep metrics, HRV, Readiness Score are all similar @@KidtipsyEthn
So I ended up getting an oura ring also. Definitely find the sleep tracking awake times more accurate. What has been working week is syncing Garmin to Strava for workouts then Strava syncs to Oura. It really does not bother me having a watch on 24/7 and the ring 24/7. If the oura ring does give the same recovery metrics over the next few weeks then what might change is I can use different activity trackers from other vendors that also sync to Strava. .....the big game changer for me would be Garmin come out with a ring similar to this. Problem solved but not like there is a problem lol other than my addiction to Fitness tech.
I will never buy this ring, the subscription part is an immediate no for me. Also, who wants to have their phone with them for every run and workout? Sounds annoying!
@@JonathanG0605 it's 5.99+tax and that's every month. Your item is useless if you don't pay your subscription fee. Your item is useless if they go out of business etc. No thanks.

India in the house🤙 Much appreciated!
never got the whole concept of buy a 300 dollar product than paying another subscription for that product.
I think comparison to Garmin would be really good. I also agree that it seems to work well as an accessory, but couldn’t be a primary fitness tracker.

What finish did you get? Is that black or silver? Hard to tell from the video but I like how it looks!
I see this as a help to keep your tracking while being in the office and wear a classic watch, instead of have two watches on.
The subscription model is a red flag.
that way you better alot of updates and new features. and they do
It’s not a red flag- it’s a a skull and two cross bones against black. 😂
The Oura Ring is truly LIFE CHANGING - amazing device - amazing service - amazing analytics - so worth it !!! Get it or be a square !!
What about the RingCon? This one doesn’t require a subscription and has similar metrics

I am waiting until Garmin releases their own Ring. That way I can rotate between a ring and watch and have the metrics in one place.
@@Aesthetic_Al can’t it all sync to the Apple health app?
Yes, Oura can be synced with Apple Health. @@Itstdub_

Oura for recovery/sleep and Apple Watch for fitness/everything else.

So day 2 the data from the Garmin and Oura is pretty much the same for recovery. Almost like they use the algorithms.
You shouldn't lift with a ring on. Forget the ring getting scratched; it can tear your skin and flesh off.
If you think the Oura ring is going to satisfy your needs after having a Garmin watch then good luck. I had an Oura ring and it’s garbage.
I agree it only took 4 days and now I'm wearing both. Can't be without my Garmin
Stick to Garmin. That Oura Ring looks a pain in the arse. What a faff to record and share activities.
a bit disappointing as a fitness tracker but I am liking the app. Excited for the new major update coming to the Garmin Connect App!
Please don’t wear rings when you’re lifting weights
Exactly...
Is it for grip? (I don't lift)
he literally said that in the video
Why not? I don't see how it would matter for the casual lifter unless it damages equipment
