      Good review but for $5k it'll stay at the shops. I simply cannot find a single way to justify that cost for an individual. And by the by; every launch monitor will contain a computer. Hell, your phone is one. Your fridge might even contain one. So saying "this is the computer" is a bit weird. :)

    Two things I think would have improved this. The ability to somehow elevate the screen so you're not bending down so many times during a round. The other would be if you had some kind of controller so you don't have to bend down to make changes. But what an awesome unit, really big jump from the R10 and shows Garmin wants to compete with the big names of the Launch Monitor world.

      ALSO because I want it over my Automatic Golf Ball Dispenser (clearly, I do not like leaning over). The R10 is NOT hurt from a few minutes of rain. I heard the word "outside" used. I'm not scared of the cost of a gaming PC but how it could die outside. I don't want a controller. Not needed with it elevated. I'd happily take less accurate if it cost $2k less. R25?
      The Awesome like games are only to rationalize the purchase to the rest of the family. What decision makers want is course play SECONDARY and driving range FIRST. I likewise want more practice tools. The goal is not fun (and my R10 is GREAT fun, especially with the guys over). The goal is better IRL golf. For example, Trackman Shot Analysis provides detailed shot data (Optimizer Tool helping visualize optimal trajectories and distances for different clubs) and Tracy AI goes a step further by offering personalized insights and recommendations based on that data. I want more. I do not simply want the Garmin Range that came with the R10. I want a new AI coach... a reasonable expectation at this price.
      I want practice modes focusing on Club and Ball Speed (to hit longer with ten shots, rest; repeated three times), face angle and club path (to correct slice or work on horizontal shape control), and launch angle and back spin (vertical shape control). I like how Tracy lets you practice and provide feedback on a single metric. And, I want a special 5-slot comparison tool to compare five balls, five clubs, or five driver settings. I want to hit 5-10 times for each with some Tracy AI (ELIZA?) to tell me which was best. I use Golf Fix AI Coach (and Golf Shot Analytics). I want Wi-Fi integration.

    I've been saying for years, someone needs to make a launch monitor with a high powered gaming pc built in. this makes it so much easier for people like me who know nothing about pc's to play gspro. I'm using the mlm2pro currently and i'm happy with it but this will be my next sim purchase for sure. Actually by that time i'm sure there will be multiple options in this category. Excited where the home golf sims are headed.

      The other side of this though is for people who know PCs, its nice being able to make one or buy one that is an absolute beast and will run the program without lag. Garmin has a conflict of interest in keeping the price as low as possible, which means they will likely skimp out on certain parts of the PC build. Just like we see with all-in-one gaming computers, there's usually integrated graphics that isn't that good.

    • @EEZYEEEE
      @EEZYEEEE Місяць тому

      As much as it is a positive to have a built-in computer, the concern is how quickly it will get outdated and un-updatable. Even a laptop or an iPad from 7 years ago is slow and obsolete so where will that leave this product in a few years? At least with a separate PC, it can be upgraded to keep up with the times and growing performance/display demands.

    My knees are hurting just thinking about using R50 in game play. I was waiting for the R50 to come out before I upgraded my R10 after 3 years of use. For the R50 to go into that price range with (Bushnell, Full Swing, ProTee, Eye mini, Eye mini Lite, GC3, QED, Launch Box, etc.) makes zero sense. I already have a set up for using GSPro on ultra with putting. My R10 gives me accuracy way above it's price range. So now if I want to upgrade it is either Eye Mini lite ($2500) which is $2500 less than the R50 or The Square ($700) $4300 less than R50.

    • @Nick-kq2sw
      @Nick-kq2sw Місяць тому

      Yeah, I'm going Eye Mini Lite hopefully after the next time it goes on sale. The Garmin is flashy and appears to be a GREAT unit. However, once you start practicing or playing sim, the touchscreen becomes a non-issue. Plus, I don't like the idea of having to bend down constantly to control it. Terrific design though.

    WOW! As an avid R10 user this thing is absolutely game changing. GSPro and E6 connectivity out of the box. When I first looked up the price I had the same kind of sticker shock since I am a budget golfer but to me this beats most LM out there currently and still comes in at the same price/cheaper than many. As others said the ONLY thing I would like to see is some sort of remote control/screen mirroring so I have the ability to control it without crouching over every time but thats a nitpicky thing. Fantastic and cant wait to see more videos.

    Spoke with Garmin customer service and they mentioned that to access GS Pro you would still need to utilize a PC. It would be great if everything operated out of the unit itself. They also mentioned that the unit does not automatically detect which club is being used, so you would have to bend over to enter the information over each time. • @ppierpont
    @ppierpont Місяць тому +2

    Great overview Gabe! In most “first looks” at the R50, I see lots of talk about not needing a computer (and the resulting savings). But that seems unlikely unless you want to run the Garmin in-house simulator. That’s probably not most users who build a home simulator. GSPro users, for example, would still need a gaming PC for graphics connected to a projector. The real question is whether E6 - which has a tablet version of its simulator software - will be able to run on the unit itself. Clearly, I would imagine E6 Apex will require a PC as well.
    If the above is true, then the GC3 remains the main competition. The R50 is cheaper and has a great screen, but it’s quite a bit bulkier. And the GC3 works great as a stand-alone unit on the range. It’s very easy to use with an iPad Mini on the stand. Some key questions for me are how the two units compare in data points offered, how those are measured/calculated, and how accurate each unit it.
    I can’t wait to see your in-depth review!

      I think the main advantage of this is you can bring it to anywhere without taking a PC, projector, screen with you. Normally it doesn't require very powerful processors to process ball/club data. But 3rd party app's data (graphics rendering, for example) might requires more and more powerful processors to get higher FPS.

    • @gl0ry
      @gl0ry Місяць тому

      Its certainly very cool, but speaking for myself, I rarely take my launch monitor anywhere. Maybe to the range every once in a while, but I'm not sure how practical it is for anyone who already has a sim setup. Maybe for new people wanting to get into this space, it's hassle free and easy to understand. For anyone who is already established, I doubt they would want to use home tee hero over gspro for example.
      That being said, $5000 is not bad at all especially if you already understand the price of the competition. I think the folks saying this is expensive may not be exposed to the better launch monitors. I mean coming from an r10 which is under a thousand to $5000 is a crazy jump for sure.

      This exactly. I already have a projector, laptop and GsPro. I don't want to go back to HTH. I want a rear mounted device with better accuracy. That is it. These type of devices are painful to people who have LH golfers in their group that play. Even for what it is, $5000 is really steep. $3,200 would have caught my eye. I am Canadian and this would be $7K for me. No thanks. I have way better options in that price point such as overhead systems. This is a nice device and I would love to have, but this is missing the market it should be going after.

    Living in the coldest country in the world, Canada, I usually play indoor from mid-November to end of March. I have tried all the sims and I have appreciated only one in the past 10 years. Trackman is the only simulator that I had fun playing 18 holes, the other ones were not realistic or the graphics looks like Wii console 1st gen.
    This R50 looks great for a 5000$ sim.

    Great video as always. The R50 looks really, really good. I love the fact that a computer isn't required and that HDMI to the projector is a great idea. One thing that does seem very odd is that you don't get an average for your shots? Surely that's a massive oversight seeing as most people using a launch monitor would want to see an average after hitting x number of shots with specific clubs? No way would I want to have to record and calculate this myself!
