Man this is probably the most unbiased review of the oura ring. I’m blown away by your honesty and transparency. You give so much insight thank you for Your support.
Wow. It really hit home when you talked about “mental noise”’. It made me think if I just wanna get this device to fill a “void” in my life. Thank you for an honest review.

Good review. Just some extra info after having used the oura ring for 2,5 years now. - I work out with it (including deadlifts) and the ring is sturdy. I can't imagine a situation where the ring would break. It scratches minimally, just like a wedding ring would. - I can download all data from the website and put it into excel or google sheet so I guess from there you can analyse it further - It did give me great insights. Eg. alcohol consumption. Even one glass of alcohol messes up my sleep and without the ring I would have never known that. Also, as a woman it is handy that the temperature tracking also perfectly shows your menstrual cycle. It also gives you warning signs when you're coming down with an illness. It has shown me that steady cardio didn't do much for my fitness level (heartrate at rest didn't drop over time) whereas more vigourous activity does lead to a declining heartrate. What I also noticed, is that my HRV and my heartrate readings are better in summer and worst in december/january. I think that might have something to do with vitamin D levels ? When I wake up at night and get out of bed briefly (eg going to the toilet), I sleep better afterwards (more deep sleep/rem) as opposed to waking up and just staying in bed. So for me those insights have been very useful and it has helped me to become more healthy. I try to get more steps in and go to bed earlier because of the data the ring has shown me. The one downside I find, is that it doesn't track your heartrate during the day, only at night. You can see the intensity (low, middle, high) of your activities during the day, which is kind of a proxy of heartrate. But the aggregate time stamp is 10 or 15 minutes (not sure), so if I go running for half an hour it shows as high intensity. Walking is medium intensity. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Oura ring. I had a watch before but I had difficulty sleeping with it and it gave me a rash. The ring is perfect. If it dies on me, I would definitely buy a new one. PS : extra tip : be clever in ordering the size. I lost weight after I bought my oura ring and it was too loose on one hand. Now I'm wearing it on my other hand. Since I ordered the size of my middle finger I can go up (index finger) or down (ring finger) without problem.
I agree with another comment here - you don't see this level of honesty on UA-cam anymore. Hats off to you and instant subscription after watching 1 video. Always a pleasure to listen to someone who THINKS. Thank you.

I love how you adding a philosophical zoomed-out review to your technical one.. This is much needed in this era of devices and features and costly gadgets (in terms of price, attention consumption, and unnecessary dependency)
This is a great review! I actually just bought an Oura ring and have had it only about 2 weeks, but I agree that the sleep tracking is very accurate. I also generally agree with what you said about the need for tracking these things, but I'm personally glad I bought the ring because although I feel I'm attuned to my body, I have a tendency to ignore my body when I'm busy (which is all the time) and push myself too hard. So I'm finding that the Oura ring data is helpful to remind myself when I need to recover. And I just find it interesting to see the data and track it over time.
Thanks Heather 🙏️ - it sounds like you're getting the best of both worlds, and I agree that the best use is having it as an 'alarm' bell for when things get out of hand and we get caught up in our heads too much
Heather, what are your thoughts now after a bit more time? I am thinking along the same lines as your reply. I would like to know when I’m going too much and need a break instead of forcing myself to work out, ice bath, etc. I would like to think I have an innate sense of that but it gets askew with life. Hope it’s been helpful, still.
@@michellethoe7380 I've had my ring about 2 months now and I'm still glad I bought it. I do have a tendency to push myself too hard, so it's helpful for me to see the data reminding myself that I'm hurting my health when I do that. I also find it helpful just reviewing the data that gives me more nuanced information. It's easy to know if I feel crappy after a night of little sleep, but I find it helpful to look at the data when I make smaller adjustments in my life, like if I change up my exercise routine or diet slightly, how does that affect me? I love research and data though, so maybe that's just me, but I love it.
Starting with the 3, there is a $7 monthly fee to see detailed data in the app, waived if you upgrade from the version 2 ring. $300 for the ring and almost $100 yearly for the life of the device is a concern for many.
Great video and great point, I got an Oura ring recently and will give my own review but I few points I wanted to add: - 1 - sleep tracking is generally VERY off for me, it says I get no REM when I wake up from a night filled with dreams! It thinks I'm awake instead and thus constantly marks my sleep as bad, which means no matter what I do, I NEVER get a great recovery score. - 2 - I appreciate the tracking of HRV, Body Temp and RHR, which is what I use to see how I'm doing, it's essentially all what I'd expect but it's pretty nice to see it in writing. This is still unfortunately not shown properly in their arbitrary "readiness score" - 3 - There are a lot more features I feel like they could add - like for example the ONLY time I take it off is to charge it, or to train. I feel like it would be a simple add-on to just add the workout if I take the ring off, or just give me the option to log it simply. - 4 - The moment feature is ok, but I think is severely limited, like you have very few options to track, NONE of which are a nap, I think this is also an easy extra fix. Overall its nice to have and viewing it as an investment of $1 a day for a year makes it make sense for me, but if I'm honest it hasn't changed much of anything as far as training or anything goes...
Thanks TJ 🙏️ 1 - interesting about sleep tracking for you, I wonder if it calibrates a wrong baseline for you. It would be good to know what the readiness score consists of specifically. You might be a super still sleeper. 2 - Totally agree 3 - Manual logging or 2-way sync would solve so many of these issues As you say, many easy fixes that wouldn't even require an overhaul from a hardware perspective. But I agree - cool to have, but not sure how it materially affects your inputs apart from increased awareness
@@PropaneFitness I think increased awareness has it's benefits! I'll go into the scores and stuff on my video, but everything else is "optimal" I think the strangest thing about it is the target market that they are aiming at. I'm not sure if anyone who invested in an Oura Ring is actually getting up and going for "a brisk 3 mile walk" at 8pm to complete an arbitrary activity goal, let alone the fact that even if they do that it's actually benefitting their life.... if that makes sense
Ive seen very good customer support from the company. If you contact them, they can literally view your data and detect the problem. I would give it a shot, if they can tell the problem is on their end, they can replace the ring!
Using technology like this help me to know myself better and I dont waste time trying useless things or thinking I’m doing good and noticing 6 months later that I was on a « bad path ».
Legit. Exactly what I was looking for. The meta discussion at the end is quite intriguing. Personally, my blood pressure and heart rate will increase if I'm councousious of the measurement. So to your point looking at the screen x times a day and obsessing isn't a good way to go. However, being able to review data in retrospect that was taken unknowingly is extremely helpful for me.
Very good points. I think one reason these trackers are popular is that positive results from lifestyle changes take time to notice while hitting daily targets give that positive feedback quicker. Also, negative consequences of more poor choices also become tangible. The act of tracking itself can be a cue for healthier choices. But this might be too optimistic perspective 😅
Some people like me needs to be constantly reminded and told in order to stay on the track. I envy people who can strong or medium self-control ability to go to bed, meditate and do healthy things. I've been had many of bad habits in my life and having a hard time stay focued or sometimes too focused on things and get sidetracked. Oura ring has made life chaning differences in my life. A very core and basic but the most important habit which is sleep. It really helped so much. Worth every penny for me.
I use mine to monitor sleep because I have P.T.S.D and night terrors so it's good to know what's going on with my heart through all of that as well so on some level I'm using it to keep my mental health in check too
Loved the review! thanks for going through the software, hardware, and the philosophy of the device itself. I’d have to respectfully disagree with ur opinion on whether we should track our own biological information. Yes, we know what makes someone happier and healthier on average but the whole point of these wearable bio devices is to personalize a healthy plan. Tracking your heart rate variability and how it changes with different life style changes is something that only a device like this can help you with. I think it’s worth the mental bandwidth to assure that you are getting the best sleep and recovery that you can get on a personal level. Thanks again!
Tracking cortisol and temperature as well as melatonin is great for people that has Circadian Rhythm Disorders. One of the hardest parts for someone with CRDs is to know their rhythm, as the sleep wake cycle after a while diverge from the temperature cycle (and other circadian based functions). So for them easingly being able to track sleep, temperature and hormonial levels are a great help (stuff that others kind of take for granted as they usually are in sync).
I came across your video because I was considering this ring. I appreciate how informative you was while still considerate enough not to make this a 20min video. Also, your honesty at the end. Your opinion mimicked exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for making this video.
Your conclusion helped me out. I was going to buy it but changed my mind. Like you said, we already know what improves us intuitively. it's more important to build that indicator within ourselves. I liked your analogy to trading. I've been trading for a while now and I've found that my trading improved when I removed all the indicators on the chart. It helps to eliminate noise. So I began to see the oura ring as an added indicator in my mental mental bandwidth, which is basically adds more noise in my life. Great review!
This is the first review of the Oura Ring & I think I can stop here, no more needs to be said, thanks for an honest review amongst the blurb of reviews sponsored by this product or that product, changing the subject, I have just quadrupled my steps by moving my smartwatch to my wanking arm!
Great review, after having the oura ring for 2 yrs I threw it away. For me it did exactly what he suggested it would... created more bandwidth and lessened my self awareness and intuition. I do better doing what everyone already knows, (exercise/sleep/diet etc) and doing a morning self reflection. The readiness score did not change my behavior, just gave me more to stress about. I hoped that seeing the numbers would motivate a change but it just made me more stressed about not getting enough deep sleep. You should also know that with most reviews they are part of a referral program and they're hoping you'll buy. They will get a cut, it's a business for them, what incentive do they have to share anything to deter you? I appreciate this review because it's not biased and his conclusion is dead on.
Amazing review. I love how you told the importance to not rely on the technology when you have natural ability to tell when your stress, tired, etc. I had bad memory and I started writing down and making a lot of videos but now my memory has recovering I still do that. The things that I should easily remember as a human I keep making videos and not memorizing it when that’s normal to memorize and it’s everyday things.
Hi, just come across this video as i was interested in a Oura ring for sleep tracking and activity. I already have a very expensive top of the range Garmin watch and the data it sometimes pulls through is completely the opposite to actual events i.e sleeping. I was restless last night and found it hard to sleep however the Garmin app says i was asleep from 11PM....... totally not true. So i thought about buying a Oura ring to double check the data and compare. But then i watched your video and you hit the nail on the head for me. Why are you buying into technology when your body is already the best technology you could possibly have. Plus also your comment about mental bandwidth, again you are absolutely 100% right, why do we need to absorb this data and take up even more headspace. There is a good argument to be had for general exercise, training and recovery but for me it boils down to this. If your not looking to run marathons and compete at the highest levels we already know what to do, how to do it and when to do it. Thanks again from a new subscriber!
Excellent review sir. I appreciate that you're a medical professional so you know more what you're talking about than Joe Blow doing a review on his new toy. The fact that you acknowledge the validity of some of the analytics while also pointing out that people in general are too distracted in their gadgets while life passes by was refreshing. Keep up the great work
Thanks Robert - I'm glad it was helpful! There's so much sweetness and inherent joy in deep focus and single-tasking, but our devices are set up to fragment out attention more and more
It’s nice to see a review that clearly isn’t paid, most you tubers talk about how amazing products are when it’s pretty obvious they’ve used it for a day and been gifted the product
Thanks AR, I don't make a very good affiliate marketer when I'm losing these guys sales 😂 but I'd prefer to give an objective view - I've got a couple of other product reviews on this channel for things that I genuinely do rate 👌
Thanks for explaining to me that I don't need it. I was looking forward to buying it thinking it would change my life. In appreciation, I liked and followed.
I disagree slightly. It would be great if people took the time to understand and think “oh I’m feeling stressed or tired, hmm I wonder why…” but we are all too busy. A device like Oura tracks all the underlying indicators for you and presents a daily sleep and readiness score out of 100 and that is easier for most people to glance at then dive deeper into the data if they wish.
I have been using this ring since it first came out. Excited about the 3rd generation. I use this strictly for sleep tracking. I find it more accurate than any other device for sleep. I can certainly see how my daily behaviors and habits impact my sleep.
Wish I had found this before buying an Apple Watch, Garmin watch and an Oura ring 🙈 Your right you know. I found it out after selling the same devices. My phone is only device I carry now and I enjoy a jogg, a walk and some weight lifting in a better way. MORE is not BETTER. Thank you for putting some knowledge into our brain.
Glad to be of help George! I might change my tune in 3-5 years if these devices start to offer live blood glucose monitoring etc, but I'll keep an eye out
The conclusion was insanely helpful. I decided against buying a fitness tracker as I realised I don't need it or want it to deregulate my internal triggers for knowing myself. Thank you!
Thank you for your candor and insights - super helpful. I’ve always been interested in my health, but I do agree with you: to what end? I’m fit, I’m a yoga instructor, I already meditate. I have a Muse S which is fine, but damned unsexy when it comes to sleeping, and I find it’s info to be helpful. But I think you’re really right about the need for any of this ... I am reconsidering the purchase. Thank you.
Thanks molly. The muse S also looks like a cool bit of kit, but I don’t think I’m inventive enough to be testing mad experimental things to improve sleep. It’s hard enough to get the basics in place. There’s maybe a place for this kind of thing for elite athletes but most people would use it as a way to procrastinate
having epilepsy all i am trying to find is an item that can tell me Sleep Quality as i forget all the time when or how long i sleep for so a item that can be a good Sleep Quality Tracker then i can just give that data to the DOC that is all i need
Thank you for the honest opinion on buying such devices! Helped to NOT ditch that money. I mean: Those bucks would be better spent on books on these topics (fitness, sleep, diet, etc)
This year I quit tracking almost anything. I used several different bands in the past but if you can't figure out what to do, all those data are useless. If you know what to do, you don't need data for validation. Or at least not all of it, all the time. I see these trackers useful only in extreme cases, like recovering after an accident or an injury or while going through an unprecedented diet and workout program. Or if you are a professional athlete (but even then, you'll probably have very specific metrics taken into account by your training crew). If I go out for a run, I just need to know time and distance - I have a baseline level of fitness and my heart rate won't change much. If I do weightlifting, either in strength or cardio, it's just reps x sets, or reps x sets x time - again, knowing my heart rate is pretty much useless if I reached my baseline fitness level. If I don't sleep well, well I know I didn't and it's very likely that I know why (and some things for improving sleep can be changed, some can't). Having said that, I agree with you that the ring it's a great object and interesting piece of technology (as someone who hates having things strapped to my wrists, that alone is a great selling point).
Thank you for this video. I was considering buying one of these rings, but now I am not so sure anymore. You are so right, why do we need to track everything, when we already have so many privacy and data issues to think about. It's better to use our inner wisdom to understand how we are feeling, it also helps us to connect to our soul. Unfortunately the trend is to digitalize everything these days, but I will go the opposite way and use my common sense, (something that is becoming more and more rare) instead of technology.
Dusting off our inner wisdom and connecting to our soul is a hugely underrated skill! And the gestalt gut feeling is often already taking into account thousands of variables. Thanks for the comment 🙏️
Great review. I must say that some tools (and it's what they are), like oura, can be useful in "reminding" you about the key habits like sleeping, walking and being mindful. They can be very beneficial and centering in the periods of stressful times. That said, there is no replacement for our own internal "compass" - like there are no strict and general good (buy) or bad (don't buy) decision.
6:35 facts. I agree. All these big flashy screens and watches that do so much that they are beginning to rival my cellphone..? I don't need or want that. 😢😅
thanks Tobias! Glad you liked the perspective. I might change my tune on it in a few years if the technology really takes off and we all have a chip in our brain
Thank you for your review I was thinking about getting this for my husband because he wants something else than the Apple Watch to track his heart rate after his heart attack. You just helped us make up our mind’s to get him this because of the five day battery life. Thank you.
Hi.Someone I follow on You Tube has this ring but she did not go into detail about the product.I have been diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and was advised to use a CPAP machine.I have tried so many times to get used to sleeping with the mask an all of the wires and I just cant do it.I am not asking for medical advice but I was just curious if the Oura ring would be capable of recognizing the monents when I gasp for air or stop breathing.I understand if you do not feel comfortable answering this question.Thank you for your time!
Good question - I don't think oura would be sophisticated enough for this, there are better tracking tools to detect sleep apnoea though. Hope you can get on top of it with some of the lifestyle measures too!
Intuitively I know that I’ve had whoop, Fitbit and Apple Watch over the last decade and I did not exactly get any healthier. Just got more data to obsess over. Thank you. This is wonderful and unbiased and you are exactly right. Also having this one my finger while doing yoga would drive me insane. 😁 Thanks again for a wonderful and helpful , sincere review.
Thanks man - If i'm honest, I'm excited by the tech in these devices, but I'm not convinced that they provide a net benefit in terms of behaviour/bandwidth
I want something to wake me up during the light sleep mode. What is the good option? People say that smart watches are not acurate in that regard (they even said apps in the smartphone are more accurate, which is strange as watch seems to be on your wrist so should be more accurate than a phone next to you)
The fit bit luxe has a setting called smart awake. If you set a wake up time, for instance let’s say you wake up at 9. It will wake you up from 8:30 to 9:00 but will wake you up when your in the lightest stage of sleep.
Excellently reviewed, articulated and summarised. The question of whether this is actually a 'need' in day to day life definitely was a penny drop moment; if you're already stressed and overwhelmed, do you really need more data to process and occupy your mind? Probably not..!
GREAT reminder at the end of the video to be in tune with yourself. I am a huge proponent of doing that; however, I believe that gamifying good habits can and will have huge positive effects on self growth also. The problem with avoiding technology to exclusively "be in tune with yourself" is #1 it definitely takes practice to master, and #2 it is easy to forget to do. We as humans are incredibly forgetful, so it helps having technology that gently nudges us in the right direction every now and then. Definitely appreciate the reminder to stay in tune with yourself though!
I am really interested in investing in the new Oura ring. I have 0 problems with paying for the hardware, but it is really unfair to charge a monthly feel for the data. It's making me to think twice about buying it, it's a great device but the subscriptions is a bummer.
I didn't realise they had a new one - I've just looked into it. It's not a bad monthly rate, but it's a shame that everything is moving to a subscription model. Hopefully it paves the way for better app support at least
Fair point for potential overall redundancy of the data when we know what we should be doing to live better. I know that if my fit bit sleep score is high on RIM then I feel I can take on more mentally challenging tasks and deep sleep score tends to result in better training at the gym. I find elements of data help me plan my day. Obviously scope for psychosomatic aspect but that applies to most mental/physiology anyway
I’ve had two in the last 2 months and managed to break them both! The rings remain intact but neither sync anymore because Bluetooth no longer functions. Very disappointed and can’t recommend.
That perspective is really well phrased and communicated. It’s not one I have dwelled upon much, if at all. I am an avid tech-junkie, but one that truly believes that, technology is only beneficial, if it’s life-benefits substantially outweigh it’s life-cost (these include, not only the monetary investment-cost, but more importantly, as you touched on, the investment of brain-power on metrics, time, energy, and potential anxiety caused by all-of-the-above). For me, and possibly many others, who truly enjoy tech, devices such as this provide a significant amount of added motivation to monitor our health. Initially, if we are honest with ourselves, that motivation is derived primarily from having the ‘latest-and-greatest tech’, but as time moves on, the health information that tech provides begins to take more of a center stage. Thank you for your review.
100% agree, you should develop an intuïtive sense of how you are physically and mentally. The thing is, wearing a tracker has helped me with that goal rather than take away from it. I was already living an active, healthy lifestyle, but it’s only since I’ve started wearing the tracker that I can make sense of what it is that I do exactly that influences my health and happiness. I’m walking more, complementary to my weight training :) Same with tracking calories for the better part of the year. I stopped eating chocolate and peanuts altogether so I could eat more rice at lunch, and all of a sudden I made leaps at the gym. So my point is, I’m too stupid to think my way to a healthy lifestyle. I need to SEE the data, the facts, to make sense of them. To measure is to know.
I so loved your review. It was so genuine and so honest and the same time fun to watch. Keep it up. Do more tech reviews, ill def watch all. This is the first video if yours i watched and i loved it.
interesting review, I just wanted it for the sleep tracking and not the activity crap. 1. so I can see what specific changes work best with my sleep. i.e. lower or higher bed temperature 2. confirming it with something objective and consistent and not just relying on subjective wellness I like your points at the end. I am skeptical if the oura ring or any other sleep tracker on the market is even 100% accurate to know what stage and quality of sleep you've gotten anyway. so based on that reason and as you've pointed out, information and mental noise is just bombarding people and you do not want more digital devices to do common sense things...
Thank you Right, for the price tag and the common battery issue of people needing to replace their ring right after their 2 year warranty ends... not worth it. I do have a sleep issue, I tend to over sleep more than 9 hours. sometimes 11-12 hours. so I want to make sure I'm doing that because maybe the overall quality isn't good . and I'm compensating with more hours asleep. sleep quality is important too not just quantity, over 10 hrs and its not beneficial. or maybe I'm getting fantastic 11-12 hours of sleep and I'm not being lazy (or I am lazy) and enjoying my bed time lol
@@PropaneFitness I watched more videos on that channel you recommended, I am going with the fitbit inspire 2 which works just as well as their fitbit charge 4 for sleep tracking. inspire 2 is just $100, 1/3rd of the price of the oura ring and more accurate for sleep stages. Although oura may be slightly better at sleep start and end to give you total sleep time which is more important than stages measurement. That's not to say fitbit does a bad job at getting total sleep time either.
@@lxMaDnEsSxl Nice - that sounds like a plan! Keen to hear about your experience with it, I think fitbit are a cool company and any crude measure would at least give you a nudge in the right direction
My battery stop holding the charge, the ring is useless. My warranty expired two months ago...The customer service propose a 50$ discount on a new ring (almost 400$). People should consider the limited battery life before buying one.
You can't improve on what you don't track. It's data to help you make decisions... If you're not willing to make decisions, then don't bother. But if you want to improve, tracking is part of it.

The one downside I find, is that it doesn't track your heartrate during the day, only at night. You can see the intensity (low, middle, high) of your activities during the day, which is kind of a proxy of heartrate. It's easy to know if I feel crappy after a night of little sleep, but I find it helpful to look at the data when I make smaller adjustments in my life, like if I change up my exercise routine or diet slightly, how does that affect me? I love research and data though, so maybe that's just me, but I love it.
@@heathergracehanson Thank you Heather, appreciate the info 😃
"Who'd have thought that your heartrate would actually go up when you're performing CPR in a high-intensity situation?" Made me LOL :D
Is that rhetorical? Anything strenuous will raise your BP & HR. 100 compressions in 1 min? It’s tiresome.
😂
The heck, I looked at this comment at the exact moment he said it. 0_o
Thanks for talking me out of buying this ring and giving me some things to think about.
This has been an expensive video for oura 👀
Same.
Why did this talk you out of it? It was a positive review.
@@mv8771 it’s a nice little gadget, but it’s not something you really need either. It’s also way too expensive.
@@NapoleonPicard getting a handle and insight into sleep quality is PRICELESS
Starting with the 3, there is a $7 monthly fee to see detailed data in the app, waived if you upgrade from the version 2 ring. $300 for the ring and almost $100 yearly for the life of the device is a concern for many.
Oh yaaaa! i forgot about their pay wall. I don't wanna keep buying the same thing lol.
The "Should you buy an Oura?" section is incredibly well put, very helpful perspective - thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed - something I've been thinking a lot about recently. You'll like some of our more recent vids too I'm sure
I have watched a bunch of Oura ring reviews on UA-cam but this one is the best. Thank you for it.
Glad it was helpful Daniel 👊️ hopefully helped you make a decision
Great video and great point, I got an Oura ring recently and will give my own review but I few points I wanted to add:
- 1 - sleep tracking is generally VERY off for me, it says I get no REM when I wake up from a night filled with dreams!
This is still unfortunately not shown properly in their arbitrary "readiness score"
- 3 - There are a lot more features I feel like they could add - like for example the ONLY time I take it off is to charge it, or to train.
Thanks TJ 🙏️
1 - interesting about sleep tracking for you, I wonder if it calibrates a wrong baseline for you. It would be good to know what the readiness score consists of specifically. You might be a super still sleeper.
2 - Totally agree
3 - Manual logging or 2-way sync would solve so many of these issues
As you say, many easy fixes that wouldn't even require an overhaul from a hardware perspective. But I agree - cool to have, but not sure how it materially affects your inputs apart from increased awareness
@@PropaneFitness I think increased awareness has it's benefits!
I'll go into the scores and stuff on my video, but everything else is "optimal"
I think the strangest thing about it is the target market that they are aiming at. I'm not sure if anyone who invested in an Oura Ring is actually getting up and going for "a brisk 3 mile walk" at 8pm to complete an arbitrary activity goal, let alone the fact that even if they do that it's actually benefitting their life.... if that makes sense
@@tjrugbymuscle True - gamified apps have become so rife that people have fatigued to the effect
Ive seen very good customer support from the company. If you contact them, they can literally view your data and detect the problem. I would give it a shot, if they can tell the problem is on their end, they can replace the ring!
You may want to look at the circul ring, a more medical grade ring that will give you oxygen saturation as well as other metrics. Good luck.
I use it for accountability. I know what to do, but if I don’t have something to tell me or keep me accountable, I won’t do it.
Not being sarcastic but what kinds of things do you need help bring accountable for? On the fence of getting this ring
Accountable on the what please? Exercise?
Your brutal unfiltered honesty on this and talking about "mental noise" has gained you another subscriber
Glad to hear Ryan 👊️ you'll enjoy our other videos for sure
I finally purchased Oura as a tool to aid in (significant) weight loss and getting sleep habits in check. Your review solidified my decision. 👍
Glad it was useful Rebecca 👊️
Hi Rebecca, I just ordered mine and was wondering how it helped you with weight loss? Was it mainly thanks to better sleep habits? Many thanks!
I agree - as you say they can be great as a behavioural tool if they act as a cue for positive change 💪
I use mine to monitor sleep because I have P.T.S.D and night terrors so it's good to know what's going on with my heart through all of that as well so on some level I'm using it to keep my mental health in check too
That's a novel use, I love it
Loved the review! thanks for going through the software, hardware, and the philosophy of the device itself.
Nice - thanks for sharing your experience with this. I can definitely see the use case with that
I came across your video because I was considering this ring. I appreciate how informative you was while still considerate enough not to make this a 20min video. Also, your honesty at the end. Your opinion mimicked exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for making this video.
Glad to hear Victor - I try to edit them down to keep them watchable without droning on! Did you decide not to buy one in the end?
Your conclusion helped me out. I was going to buy it but changed my mind. Like you said, we already know what improves us intuitively. it's more important to build that indicator within ourselves. I liked your analogy to trading. I've been trading for a while now and I've found that my trading improved when I removed all the indicators on the chart. It helps to eliminate noise. So I began to see the oura ring as an added indicator in my mental mental bandwidth, which is basically adds more noise in my life. Great review!
Glad it was helpful Tony! Bandwidth is key 💪 - and that's great about your trading performance. Any resource recommendations?
This is the first review of the Oura Ring & I think I can stop here, no more needs to be said, thanks for an honest review amongst the blurb of reviews sponsored by this product or that product, changing the subject, I have just quadrupled my steps by moving my smartwatch to my wanking arm!
😂 I'm glad you enjoyed David!
I love the advice you gave at the end. I don’t need to spend money and you just made me realize that. Thanks!
Glad your memory has recovered now - journalling is certainly useful to develop that sense of interoception too 👌
Thanks for that scientific and unbiased appraisal.
That last discussion was really interesting... thanks for exploring it. Made me think.
Glad it was food for thought!
Regarding your last section on whether you should buy and why you're tracking - what gets measured gets managed (ideally.)
I agree - and we're big on tracking the big needle movers. The question is how can we dial it down to as few, key indicators as possible?
Thanks AR, I don't make a very good affiliate marketer when I'm losing these guys sales 😂
but I'd prefer to give an objective view - I've got a couple of other product reviews on this channel for things that I genuinely do rate 👌
Thanks for explaining to me that I don't need it. I was looking forward to buying it thinking it would change my life. In appreciation, I liked and followed.
Glad it was helpful Sylvan 👊️, you'll love our other vids too
I like they way you come to your conclusion. It seems so simple, yet very true. Thank you
I disagree slightly.
True - in the absence of mindfulness or being over-busy, checking in on the data gives us hard evidence that we need to slow down
I have been using this ring since it first came out. Excited about the 3rd generation. I use this strictly for sleep tracking. I find it more accurate than any other device for sleep. I can certainly see how my daily behaviors and habits impact my sleep.
Cool review dude
I am super interested to see what’s inside and how they manage to fit all that including a BATTERY inside
Really appreciate the honesty on this product. We should be more intuitive.
Glad youenjoyed Catherine - building intuition and interoception is a hard skill, especially in modern life!
@@PropaneFitness That is very true! Society sells us so many things to “rely” on so we can’t trust our own intuition (ex: hunger cues).
Thank you for your perspective :) Mindfulness is more peaceful than neuroticism.
Very much so! A lost art
Thanks for saving me $300. I get 10k+ steps on my Fitbit every day.💪 😂
Wish I had found this before buying an Apple Watch, Garmin watch and an Oura ring 🙈 Your right you know. I found it out after selling the same devices. My phone is only device I carry now and I enjoy a jogg, a walk and some weight lifting in a better way. MORE is not BETTER. Thank you for putting some knowledge into our brain.
Thx for the advice at the end, got me thinking!
👊️
Well done on this video man. Funny how I was thinking of doing an impulsive purchase and by the end I realised I don't need to. cheers
Thank you!
Glad it was useful Filip - as you say, building awareness of the internal triggers is a hugely valuable skill 👊️
Glad to be of help Till - totally agree that the cash would be well spent on improving sleep environment
This was an extremely well put together review of this ring, and I thank you. I purchased this ring after watching your review.
Totally agree. Great technology, specific use cases but it will tend to tell you things which we already know are good for us 👊️
actually we were fit and healthy before apple watch, which led to fitness tracking. thanks for opening up and reminding.
👌 cool technology, but easy to get caught up in it all
Thank you for this video.
Couldn’t agree more- building the sense of interoception PLUS having the behavioural reminders are the best combination!
6:35 facts. I agree. All these big flashy screens and watches that do so much that they are beginning to rival my cellphone..? I don't need or want that. 😢😅
Really good review, nice that you were able to push on getting closer into oneself and ones senses instead of deeper in to a device...
thanks Tobias! Glad you liked the perspective. I might change my tune on it in a few years if the technology really takes off and we all have a chip in our brain
Savage lol good job on the intro calling them out love it lol
Excellent take Doc!
🙏️ glad you enjoyed Marios
I wonder if it would track steps when I play piano. As a professional pianist, this is really annoying with Fitbit and Garmin.
Possibly would pick up a few, maybe best to take off while playing
I would have been on board with it but the subscription kills it if it was just 1 time payment would be perfect
You make a lot of sense. I should have watched this BEFORE I ordered the rings.
Thanks Lee - It's still a great piece of kit!
@@PropaneFitness I hope so - me and my girlfriend have both ordered 1 each. I'll keep you posted :)

Thank you for your review I was thinking about getting this for my husband because he wants something else than the Apple Watch to track his heart rate after his heart attack. You just helped us make up our mind’s to get him this because of the five day battery life. Thank you.
I'm not sure how helpful it is as a diagnostic tool but I agree that the battery life of an apple watch makes it very impractical
@@PropaneFitness Thank you for your response.I will continue to search for something that is not as cumbersome as the CPAP machine.

What a great video. Lucid, candid and very informative. Thank you! Helped me make my decision.
"Lucid, candid and informative" - I'll need to put that on my CV
Intuitively I know that I’ve had whoop, Fitbit and Apple Watch over the last decade and I did not exactly get any healthier. Just got more data to obsess over. Thank you. This is wonderful and unbiased and you are exactly right. Also having this one my finger while doing yoga would drive me insane. 😁
Thanks again for a wonderful and helpful , sincere review.
Thanks man - If i'm honest, I'm excited by the tech in these devices, but I'm not convinced that they provide a net benefit in terms of behaviour/bandwidth
I want something to wake me up during the light sleep mode. What is the good option? People say that smart watches are not acurate in that regard (they even said apps in the smartphone are more accurate, which is strange as watch seems to be on your wrist so should be more accurate than a phone next to you)
This guy measures the accuracy of the Oura if you're interested Tom ua-cam.com/video/I2pm3bzCuCg/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comment RM - building that interoceptive capacity is becoming a rarer skill with modern tech!
I want another indicator besides my feeling and my lift s to see how fit iam at this point
Sounds like it's what you need in that case 👌
Not one time payment anymore apparently
Great honest review, thumbs up!
Keep it simple and practical. Thanks Doc. I agree.
Glad you found it useful Amik - and yes totally agree, the anxiety cost may not be worth the data gain
I’m walking more, complementary to my weight training :)
Same with tracking calories for the better part of the year.
I like your perspective - definitely a way to give the unconscious mind a bit of reinforcement 👌️
This comment should be pinned imo. Oura is a tool to HELP you become more intuitive, not take away from it
Thanks for the candid review; much appreciated!
🙏️
I so loved your review. It was so genuine and so honest and the same time fun to watch. Keep it up. Do more tech reviews, ill def watch all. This is the first video if yours i watched and i loved it.
Glad it was helpful Rahul, you'll very much enjoy our other vids, with some bangers to come
Brilliant review - so insightful
interesting review, I just wanted it for the sleep tracking and not the activity crap.
1. so I can see what specific changes work best with my sleep. i.e. lower or higher bed temperature
2. confirming it with something objective and consistent and not just relying on subjective wellness
I like your points at the end.
I am skeptical if the oura ring or any other sleep tracker on the market is even 100% accurate to know what stage and quality of sleep you've gotten anyway.
so based on that reason and as you've pointed out, information and mental noise is just bombarding people and you do not want more digital devices to do common sense things...
actually I am considering getting it for sleep scores.
they say it's as accurate as a PSG used in sleep studies
This guy tests the accuracy of the ring for sleep tracking, might be something you'll find useful: ua-cam.com/video/I2pm3bzCuCg/v-deo.html
Thank you
Right, for the price tag and the common battery issue of people needing to replace their ring right after their 2 year warranty ends... not worth it.
Keen to hear about your experience with it, I think fitbit are a cool company and any crude measure would at least give you a nudge in the right direction
pretty much agree w/ everything that was said starting at 07:28

Glad I watched this. I was on the verge of purchasing but he is right, it’s just one more thing to distract me
It's a cool bit of kit, but I just don't feel I have the bandwidth for more data streams at this point!
Extremely great points described . Rather than depending devices, the intuit sense is more reliable. I stopped to buy this product.

I think this is a wonderfully helpful review - thank you
Cheers Cee 👌
Got me at that trading analogy - absolutely ace!
Thanks Mark 👊️ - I *think* it was a concept from Warren Buffett, but I might be misremembering
My battery stop holding the charge, the ring is useless. My warranty expired two months ago...The customer service propose a 50$ discount on a new ring (almost 400$). People should consider the limited battery life before buying one.
I'm not bitter you're bitter haha!

You can't improve on what you don't track. It's data to help you make decisions... If you're not willing to make decisions, then don't bother. But if you want to improve, tracking is part of it.
Yep, we're big on the 'what gets measured gets managed' approach. Ideally you want as few indicators as possible
Amazing review brother, excellent advice and the honesty is always a breath of fresh air
