How I got here…
🔹12 yrs old: Started uploading minecraft videos at / @luke23mc
🔹16 yrs old: Switched to uploading Fortnite videos on this channel. You can go to my uploads sort oldest to newest to see all of my old Fortnite videos
🔹18 yrs old: Switched from Fortnite to Rocket League videos during Covid. I also began coaching players 1-on-1 on / spookluke
🔹19 yrs old: Rocket League went free to play and my channel blew up. To keep up with the demand for coaching, started the Grand Champ Roadmap --a rocket league course business
🔹20 yrs old: Developed company and continued to scale course business. Eventually, I dropped out of school to pursue UA-cam and the company full-time.
🔹21 yrs old: Switched from selling courses to coaching only. Released all courses for free on www.skool.com/gcb-free/about. Transformed GCR into GCB. Doubled coaching duration, cut price in half. Seeing results improve and students happier was worth making less money.

The swap from Hybrid to the Octane feels really hard to do, but swapping to Fennec, I can almost perfectly carry over all mechanics instead of Octane.
It's insane.

i'm a main fennec, but in the last few weeks, I changed the Fennec to the Octane and I'm feeling "lighter and more precise" in the aerial plays.. pure Subtle Variation

Glad I got the fennec a couple of days ago ! I feel so much more consistent and play way better, i'm not flashy and fast anymore but very regular and I feel like the car just does its job better cuz the hitbox fits the fennec better than the octane

How'd you get it?
I started off with the octane, but found more success early on using the Dominus and Breakout. But once I got the Fennec, it quickly became my main choice and most confidence boosting vehicle for sure
I've been maining fennec since about 3k hours, but I always love going back to the octane for a bit here and there. I always thought of it as kind of a honeymoon phase because it would wear off over time, but now that you talked about the "subtle variation effect", it makes a lot more sense. I will often slightly tweak my camera and other settings if I feel in a rut for a bit (I heard GarrettG mention one time that it can make things feel fresh lol)
good vid. i use both octane & fennec and feel like im quicker with the octane but more accurate with the fennec. both great cars.

I'm actually surprised by this video (how true it is) because I always used the octane, always, but when I was starting to get high c3 and now I gc, I switched to fennec for a game and always had the feeling fennec was making me play better, now I saw this video and don't don't it's all in my head and not true
I tried maining the Fennec for a few hours, and surprising I was scoring EVERY SINGLE SHOT! I was not even missing 😁. Thanks for the tips!

i wonder how long it will take them to realize that the Roadhog XL (Octane Hitbox) is superior to the Fennec.
The problem i see with roadhog XL is its not a good looking car like the fennec so it wont see any use.

I find the Fennec feels too "bouncy" and "loose", where the Octane feels much tighter.

For me it's the feeling. Fennec feels more "clunky" and octane feels more "slim" and "agile" because of the skin. My experience

The subtle variation effect also applies to different hitboxes. If you switch from Octane to Merc, then Dominus, Fennec, etc., in theory, you will learn faster. Confidence is everything in this game so it's good to have the mentality 'I can play well with any car'.

Hey Luke! Just a quick addition to SVE (subtle variation effect). The effect doesnt work the same way as placebo which is purely mentality. SVE works by forcing ur brain to adapt to new environments (in the experiment its the slightly changed sens. You might not notice but your brain automatically tries to adapt which results in higher brain activity for the desired task. SVE is commonly used by high level aimers. It wouldn't work by just changing ur car design or color on the other hand. Just wanted to clarify that :)

I was an esper main for a long time, (got me from d1-c1) and I really enjoyed it. I switched to octane and it felt good. I also tried fennec for a bit and it also felt good. The main problem I have is that I do not like the octane or fennec design, I don't like to use them. I now use zippy and takumi a lot and I love em. They are not op or "good" cars to ppl but I do rly good in them.

I definitely agree with this, I actually have my most hours in dominus because I started training with it to learn better aireal controll and like the car for its strong flicks in ones and if I just switched from it to another hit box I wouldn’t play as good.
RyanGoldfish's video on different hitboxes is the best, and I consistently find myself going back to it. After weighing pros and cons and figuring out what works for me and what I wanted to prioritize, I went with Hybrid.
It's about the same as the octane, but it has a little more length like the Dominus, so it hits haaard. Jager has treated me best, and the Venom is sick for demo play some reason. I'm trying out the Skyline now, finally.
I rly like Jager too! But for me at least I prefer esper. I like how mechanical I feel when I play with it and like you said hybrid hitbox hits hard!

I had the Esper but I felt like too much of a meme. I'm back on Venom right now, really out of nowhere. No idea why.
They do a call and make you commit to their whole training program up front which is like $1500.
They’ve done studies that have proved that if you know about a placebo, as long as you believe that it will make you better, it WILL even though you know that it’s a placebo

I think you have misinterpreted the subtle variation effect. The study was on a mechanical change and you are only suggesting a visual change. While I understand why you might think this would be related, the important factor was that the feel was changed by the settings being changed, i.e. a physical difference in how you execute the action.

It depends on people. I never had that kind of "heavy" feeling when switching cars. Especially when switching cars from the same hitbox. The feeling of accuracy for precise touches because of differences when it comes to visual garbage outside of the hitbox is a different story though.
Wouldn't say fennec feels slow for me, would just say octane feels lighter sometimes if yk what I mean, but I'm mailing fennec now and I realised why I started feeling fennec was better now that I'm getting into thr higher ranks
I think it may just be an illusion becuase of the visual compared to the hit box, i think both cars are equally fast/slow, just that the fennec feels slow, but i think that is just good because if you feel slow you will try to play faster, if you feel fast you will just stay at your current speed or stay slow.
The fennec might feel slower becuase its visuals is more accurate to the actual hitbox. the fennec visuals compared to the octane, is a bit bigger, and fills the box more.
Just a personal observation and speculation.

A benefit to the octane is that it has that engine in the back which is pretty closely lined up to the center of mass of the car, whereas the fennec doesnt have as distinct of a visual cue. I'd argue that its easier to dribble with the octane for this reason, though matching the hitbox seems more important to me.
my placebo effect was playing REALLY bad music sped up. my friend hates it but it does make me play better randomly. it helps me not panic and lets me stay calm. but hopefully it still works after you told me that

About the subtle variation effect. I changed my fennec from black to tw and overall the whole design. I felt almost like I was better with the new design and learnt to hit some better shots etc. The subtle variation effect might be the answer as to why I progressed faster but I can't be sure
The crazy part about the placebo effect is that it was tested and found to work even when you know of its existence and how it is affecting you. You don't have to be oblivious to reap its benefits :)
I can confirm it with the switching...
Sometimes i'll try to learn a mechanic and it just wont work on the fennec, so I switch to the octane, learn it there, and when I switch back I can now do it witj both cars...
Octane also feels more nimble and fast at times, so I like to use it to just change playstyle ever so slightly
this makes so much sense! I cannot tell you how many times ive tried to hit the ball with the tail of my car using octane and I thought I was just really bad but maybe I not and I should start using fennec, but I dont have fennec so I guess ill stick with octane for now
I go with the GTI atm cause i'm own one for myself. Would be nice how it is compared to FENNEC and OCTANE. I think somewhere in the middle of both.
The subtle effect is real, o learned to dribble better with octane, by playing some time with breakout, and i think i learned some more playing with other hitboxes,that was early when i saterted playing
I like the Fennec a lot more because i can see the nose of the car more easily, which makes it easier to predict and time shots. I've also used the Golf a bit, and it also plays similarly imho.

I knew it fits better for a long time. But now I’m higher ranked I notice the difference more. I just don’t know if it’s placebo or not. But I switched to the fennec anyway

Something you missed is that with most camera settings you can see the front of the fennec, wheras with the octane you can't, you just "know" where the front of your car is.
I recently switched to the Fennec and it feels so much better. It took a little bit to get used to the hit box and how the car handles but once I got used to it, it's way better than the Octane.
also the distance of the wheels have a factor in the steering circle.. or is that just the placebo effect kicking in? :)

I have been using the Mudcat for years, I am not interested in being as good as a squishy or as a zen, I just like to enjoy the game in Champion, since the rankeds are very interesting and I love how the car looks, I know it is the most efficient It's the octane or the fennec, but for me, part of playing (let's not forget that this is a game) is enjoying and using the car that you like both in performance and visuals, for me, the beautiful Mudcat. Nice video.

But really the hitboxes are the exact same, therefore there is no advantage to using one or the other. They are literally the same car.

I’m a casual I love the game but my mechanics aren’t the best I can score but I can’t do much air stuff but I’m not practicing it as much as I should but I never knew the car side of things I have the octane which I’m going to try now but I assume I would have to buy the fennec just wondering would it even be necessary to
the variation effect thing is why I played so good in gen.g decal when I first got it
I actually have been swapping between Dominus and October since I first started playing, I'm good with both cars and I'm starting to shy away a bit from the Dominus because I'm doing more air play which I find more difficult with the Dominus

Always been a fennic driver have enjoyed the look and feel. Really need to finally work mechanics...kinda bad to be est 2015 in high D that can only rarely double off the backboard.

one thing you got wrong about the placebo effect is that even when a subject is told that what they are experiencing is purely placebo, or that that the pills they've been taking were northing more than sugar pills, the placebo will *still* keep working
i used fennec for forever but just recently switched to octane and gotta admit. i def feel faster and feel i have more control of my car in the air. could be placebo effect but im not sure

I feel the same, fennec always feels a bit heavier, but I think that just makes me play slower and to my strengths. When I play with the octane I start doing all kinds of crazy stuff
Nomad is the closest for to actual hotbox if any car in my opinion. Uses merc hitbox but matches almost perfectly.

I switched to fennec bc trying to learn wave dashes with the octanes suspension was annoying me. The fen just has such a clear bottom to the car. IG that's the point is that it fits the hitbox better but that was the specific reason I swapped.

Same hitbox. It just how you feel with the car cuz I switch back and forth depending how I feel if I feel bad with the fennec I go to octane and play better and the same but octane to fennec it’s just mentality but they are the same

Also, I swap between the Octane, Fennec, Jager and Diestro all the time. I'd have some insight if I didn't whiff so damn much.
I believe this is true but nobody but JZR realized that the harbinger is way better fitting for octane hitbox then octane or fennec for octane hitbox its like the looks merc and octane put together
