North Brother Island served as the residence for Mary Mallon, famously known as Typhoid Mary, for two decades. The location was also associated with the management of quarantinable diseases, starting with typhoid and later including smallpox and tuberculosis. The video is excellent; however, I would recommend wearing a respirator mask when visiting such sites. The smokestacks, I believe, were part of power plants and were also utilized as a crematorium for infected individuals. The video is impressive; please prioritize your safety while exploring.
Sadly, those strong river currents towards the end of your video have killed many people. Mostly teenagers who dive into any parts of all NYC rivers. The waters are like a giant washing machine when you look at them. Incredible. The video was an amazing tour. Thanks! ❤🙂
@kaykiekid Thank you so much for watching and commenting. NYC waterways can be very DANGEROUS. Watch my previous Video about stealth camping in a U-Haul. The East River is wild. Thank you again!
I went to North Brother island as well but where we had landed was pretty overgrown and fenced off so we just walked around the shore, took pictures and called it a day because it was getting dark so we had to return the kayaks. Crossing back the East River at night was the learning experience that taught me to respect the waters, I was paddling against the current as much as I could and my friends were on those two-person kayaks but I was on the single person one paddling for my life to get to shore! Definitely not for everyone, waters are much calmer in the day and at night it’s a no-go. We were warned that the coastguards/nypd have had to rescue people who went beyond the allowed zone but we were young and realized we would never get the opportunity again.

YES!! Camp. Also, I'd be SUPER interested in what is under the overgrowth and how far beneath the ground those structures go. LOTS of anomalies at this place. I subbed so now you HAVE to 😆 jokes. I would ABSOLUTELY go there alone. Keep it up, I love this!
Maybe garbage

Yes, CAMP! I would do it in a heartbeat! I doubt I would get any sleep, but that is half the fun! As always, I thank you for taking me to a place I will likely never see!
@jonsymmonds1120 I think I agree. Team no sleep. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

Very cool I was always fascinated with that island if you can please explore huckleberry Island it’s right off of new Rochelle, Glen Island it’s a cool little island I used to sail by all the time when leaving the marina and yes I look forward to seeing you camp out 👍🏻
Thank you. I appreciate the suggestions. I was close to that area in my Pelham Bay Park video. I paddled to Hog Island and around a few smaller islands. I've looked at Glen Island. I believe they removed the buildings from Glen Island. I need to research Huckleberry Island. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
@@TwoFeetOutdoors yup you were that was a cool video as well I enjoy all of your content
Excellent video! I really enjoyed it! Super creepy,....exploring at night would be a video I'd like to see! Would most likely get hundreds of thousands of views! Great job!
Sooner or later nature always wins...
Hey Matt! Just started watching your videos and have been most interested in your recent adventures in NYC and how the van life there has treated you. I’m actually driving up from Orlando today and am also planning to car-camp in the area for about a week.
Wondering if you might have any pointers/tips you could send my way on areas to park/sleep and how the experience has treated you?
I’ll also be checking out Van Alley and plan to stay there during my stay (or as long as possible) so will hopefully have the pleasure of running into you!
Keep up the good work🏄♂️
Need to see a camping episode!!
Thank you. Stay tuned.....
Yo Matt . love your vidoes. This was one of your best. The typhoid mary home
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate it. Thanks for watching and commenting 😀
Camp for sure, but bring a strong headlamp and explore some of the buildings. I was actually enjoying the history and the ruins.
Yes!! Please camp on the island!
if you camp out, I would suggest to bring a ghost cam or night vision camera to see what you will have to deal with.

Yes! I would definitely go there alone and explore! It looks really really cool 😎
Watchin' from India...YES please camp !! ❤ed the vdo 👍
Thank you. I really appreciate you watching from India. 😊
@@TwoFeetOutdoors
Been binge watchin' your vdos last seven hours...marvelous photography, commentary and water currants cautions. I did not know that they could affect small vessels so much. Also how to go through the wakes of other bigger vessels. Learning a lot about the outdoors from you !!
Please also show the kayak packing, unpacking and bringing it ashore. Thank you 🙏🏼
@@BPantherPink Wow, thank you so much!! I REALLY appreciate you watching. Thank you for the suggestions. I like suggestions. Already planned for them. Thanks again. Keep watching. 😀

Go in the fall after the leaves have come down and then you can explore better.
Yes, definitely!

Sort of apocalyptic, serene, nature take over civilized place, I can't decide.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
You are insane 😮 I was soooo scared just watching you go down into the basement 😱
Insane would be going down into NYC subway system! 😅
Yes, definitely camp there, and take me with you! I've been obsessed with North Brother Island since I moved to NYC.

@@j3d1423 Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting.
I love history.
I live the rural version of your island paddles.. the penobscot river in maine. thanks for the ride. the current can be crazy strong. you should see it up against the bedrock points of islands...fighting for thousands of years. I have found debris 20 feet up in the trees...on the points of islands where rivers have to go around them. big floods history.
Nice Work & Video 👍
@@VINTERIUM..EXPLORIUM.1 Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting.
Living in the Bronx for so many years and knowing all your Bronx spots you finally got me. I had to pull out the map. I never ever realized that those 2 islands were there. Thanks for little history lesson. I’m not as brave asyou, but i will watch your camping video there. I know it’s going to a yes vote for you to camp there. CAMP THERE PLEASE!!!
@blackman10701 You're welcome. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. I love it when I show NYC residents something new. Thank you for your vote!
this was such an amazing video, great job once again. I hope you had long pants I was concerned while watching this about tickets and poison oak/ivy. As always I hope you are safe when exploring these places, and the jump scare was good you got me there LOL. I have to ask out of this and the boat graveyard which exploration did you like the best?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting. I actually did get some poison ivy on my calves and ankles. Not too bad. It's almost gone. I love all my adventures. Have you watched the Hackensack River video to the USS Ling and the Quester 1?
@TwoFeetOutdoors I just remembered next time if you do go back, please wear a mask. Those buildings looked moldy, and who knows what decade that paint is from
@@sayian1_998 Thank you. ☢️⚠️
@TwoFeetOutdoors yeah that was great. I always wanted to see that sub up close but was told it was off-limits.
That would be a cool camping adventure! Especialy for Halloween!

I can't believe you went out into that notoriously dangerous current! Always wanted to see what was out here. Thanks for making the trip!
Yeah, the East River is sketchy! That current as I came around the island on the way back was wild. You could see that I was paddling fast but barely moving. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
Definitely a camp adventure

WOW so cool yes camp out a must but be safe brother.
I've seen police boat patrol from across Barreto park docks.. if you do go back, they do patrol so use caution.
Thank you. That's the area I launched from. The water was quiet when I was out there. I've seen police boats in other areas, too. I doubt they care much about kayakers. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I got to give you credit for finding these little known places to many and paddling there.
@@cncprogrammer3265 Thank you. I appreciate it.
Hard to believe that a beautiful place like that could exist in such a hell hole that is NYC!
That was quite an adventure so much fun scary and exciting and wonderful. It wasn’t one animal around.
Thank you!! Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm glad you didn't have a heart attack 🤣
Always bring a flashlight, and other gear you might need!
Yessss!! Camp out!!

I'm at about the 15 minutes mark, lovin' it so far, very cool and creepy! I love and admire your adventurous spirit. It does look a little "sketchy" (lol) but you're a grown man and know what you're doing, my only concern is that I hope you travel with a first aid kit for just in case man.
And the jump scare wasn't scary but funny as heck!!! 😂😂😂😂
I vote for yes to going back and camping overnight! Definitely stealth camping 👍
Continuing to watch...
@@angusbeef1574 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you.
Maybe the boat to your right is NYPD
No, that was just a little cabin cruiser.
I say camp! I do enjoy your weariness and thoughtfulness though so if you camp I hope you do so with your usual wits about you! No need to risk safety for a UA-cam video but also if it sounds fun to you then go for it!
To comment on your question on if I'd walk through there alone... 100% I personally would! Camp on the other hand... Maybe!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. This is such a great comment. Thanks.

Thanks for the thriller! Matt, I'm not 100% sure you were alone on that island. Did you feel like you were being watched? also, I wonder how close you can get to Rikers before they would think you were planning a jail break 🤣
Hahaha. It really didn't seem as spooky to me as I thought it would. It was kind of peaceful. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.
We have just discovered your amazing channel we have watched all your videos and really enjoy going on adventures with you thanks

This is so scary if you see someone I’m gonna have a heart attack. It’s so overgrown. I’m surprised no one maintains that at all.
It's a wildlife/bird sanctuary now. Same with the other island.
👏 🙌 it looks like strong current . You are amazing!
24:32. That particular one, in the boating world, is called the 'Baba' Buoy.
This is a halloween episode for sure if you go back.
Yes do the camp there is enough there for a weekend camp and bring lots of lights
Don't want to bring too many lights and draw attention to himself. It's illegal to be there.
