I love that we are getting Stephanie’s perspectives as well as Jim’s more and more often!
Jim & Stephany - YOU are a great full sunshine combo! I love the way you compliment one another. It is a joy to witness.
Agreed! 😀
I appreciate you taking the time to create this video. You have shown some plant combinations that I have been considering and it was great to see them and I feel like you guys are agreeing with my thoughts 😊. Enjoy your content so much!
I DID IT!
I dug out that big Gardenia that was too deep & ended up with a rooted limb off the main shrub to boot. Added a bunch of compost & replanted it, wish me luck?
You guys give me more than inspiration, you give me courage to step outside my comfort zone. Many thanks Jim & Steph 💕
Edit: I remember when a garden center could afford trained staff to do this with customers. I loved helping folks design by showing it to them. Made me nostalgic!
That's great you went ahead and did it! I've moved gardenias mainly in fall months but have done it in spring/summer but cut top back quite a bit with success. They're pretty resilient.
Great video! Stephanie knows her plants!💖🥀🌺🌷
I like this type of video not only because of the specific plants grouped but also the suggestions and tips! I don’t have a creative or artistic bone in my body so figuring this stuff out is a struggle. I’m very happy to hear Stephanie’s suggestions and see her growing ease in front of the camera. Two wells of knowledge in one video is always a plus! 👌💕👍
❤love, love happy gardening. Miss you guys.
Gosh I just loooove these combination videos! I love rewatching them! They inspire me to create some of these combos or very similar ones in my own garden. I am currently moving around pots with sunshine ligustrum and loropetalum from Southern living plant collection in my garden to see what I like. I also love it when Steph is in the videos! Just really fun and inspiring videos to watch!
This shade video has been especially helpful and I agree with others; Steph, you are wonderful with those combinations!! 💗 Jim, please keep these videos coming. Been watching for 3+ years now and my garden has blossomed into a cool specimen type casual & special place here in Cary NC that we so enjoy thanks to your channel!💗
Your just awesome. I learn so much with every video I watch.
I love these kinds of videos that you and Stephany provide. When shopping for plants/shrubs, I know what I like as a single piece but I always seem to get stuck in what will compliment my new piece. I do believe there is a skill in choosing and planning or perhaps this is what we call experience. I thank you for helping us out in the development of our gardens.
Thanks, I’m digging the Orange Rocket Barberry
Thank you Stephany and Jim. 🌸💚🙃
Absolutely loved this video. Thank you so much for all The ideas and combinations of plant choices.
I love all the tips I'm getting here. Thank you!
Perfect timing! I needed some ideas for the front of my house🌿 Thank you for this video!
Really enjoyed this video! Opens my eyes to texture, color, height combos! Thank you!
I love to live vicariously in Zone 7b!
Love the plant combo videos. I do not have the eye for it! Stephanie does an amazing job! Thank you
Another great video! Big thanks to you and Stephanie. The summer is looking pretty hot (I live in Atlanta). Could you guys do a video about protecting plants in super hot weather? I get really worried when the heat index hits in the high 90s and low 100s. Thanks again for all of the incredible information!!!
These combo videos are very helpful, determining ideal plant combinations is one of my biggest challenges.
I can’t wait for that variegated azalea!!!!! Omg it’s perfect!!!! That’s my favorite grouping lol Love them all tho! 🤍🤍🤍🌸🌸🌸🌳🌳🌳🪴🪴🪴🍀🍀🍀
Beautiful combos 🥰
Thank you for your choices and placements of the beautiful plants.
These r exactly what I needed!
Yall are great!
Wow I have one of these combos❤ Oakland Holly, distylium and barberry. Our Oakland Hollies defoliated in December but are slowly leafing back out.
Great suggestions 👍🏼🙏🏻👍🏼
Great job guys! Really!!! I have learned and gained so much inspiration from the two of you.
I need those orange rocket barberries in my life lol
It’s so crazy y’all made this video when I had just asked Steph to teach me how to arrange my garden so my plants don’t get lost. Thank you! Is exactly what I needed.
Love these plant combo videos! 🌟
I've not had good luck with my azaleas! Zone 8a. I've got two autumn twist recovering in the shade right now.
Just ordered 3 agapanthus last night. Hope I have better luck with them this time😉
Jim they are plants. They all go with one another.
Great plant combos!
Excellent content. I'm looking forward to the shade version!
Great content. Thank you.
I bought orange rocket in December on clearance. It shined bright in spring and summer, I don’t mind in the least that it will lose its leaves in winter.
Jim & Stephanie,
Great combos! Would LOVE to see a combo video specifically for deer-resistant plants in both sun & shade.
Thank you. 😊
Love this series! Noticed that some of the plants are for zone 5. How will a zone 5 plant perform in Raleigh zone 7b clay soil?
Awesome video! I've been undecided on what to plant with my my false hollies. It's a full sun spot, but I've got it down to a barberry or panicle hydrangea and I'm leaning towards the barberry. Love your content! Thanks.
Jim/Steph, l love the concept of this video. Your combinations are stunning! And the features you pointed out are helpful! I would like to ask you for your advice! I have lost my privacy under a row of giant cedars between my neighbor and me. I’d say they our landscapers limbed up our cedars 3 feet from the ground, which was more than I wanted. The cedars don’t get irrigation. They are at the top of a slope on my property, but we are downhill from my neighbor. Sometimes we get rain run-off. What would you plant under the cedars? It would be planted near iron fencing, but the sun shines through. The Touch of Gold, Sunshine Ligustrum and Loropetulum caught my eye. They would get southern exposure one one side and some shade from the cedars as they start to grow in again. I’m in Dallas, zone 8B. Love all the textures and combos you have both demonstrated!
First Comment; Loropetalum!
Sadly, Rabbits ate my Encore Azaleas to nubs and I won’t be replacing them. I use a lot of salvias and lenten rose with native plants. Rutgers University doesn’t recommend Barberry.
Great, great video! Love it!!! Been researching companion plants for some time now. I'm in 7b. I love blush pink nandinas. What small/dwarf plants would you put with it? I have sky pencil already. The upright growing gardina you mentioned sounds interesting. Can't be any more than 2-2.5 feet in width. Thanks!!!
I can’t get Encore to do well here in North Texas (to much heat). It is selling here like crazy… East Garden (afternoon shade but still too hot) 😢😅
I need advice for morning sun and shade the rest of the day for 9b
It would be great if all these very talented plant breeders worked on a faster growing live oak tree
🙋
Is that a Tara Oakleaf hydrangea off to the right? I want one of those so bad but can never find any :(
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆🌿🌳💚
I love southern living plants and Monrovia. I dislike proven winners👎🏻
