I have owned a 1980 RWD Celica, as well as a 1986 and 1989 Celica. All great vehicles. Oh and Scotty's bagging on the 7th gen celica, may have some validity, but I think he overstates the case. I have a 2001 gts and it drives great and I haven't had any trouble with it. More fun to drive than the 6th Gen celica which was just a sporty looking Corolla. If you don't track the 2zz engine or drive it like a maniac, it lasts a long time. I also don't think Scotty is giving Toyota it's due on the work they did on the new Supra. It appears to be a pretty good car which drives different than the Z4.

In the 7th generation's defense... looks are subjective, but many people did like the new "angular" look. The 1zz was a great engine that could last well over 200k, but even the 2zz could last a long time if ran on the proper fuel and with an upgraded oil pan. It really came down to the owners not taking care of them, causing the engines to blow. But neither of these things were what took away from the Celicas sales and caused it to die, it was simply the market at the time wasn't interested in small coupe sports cars. From around '97 to '04 a lot of Japanese sports cars were axed, like the supra and many Honda models. Not because they were bad, but because of the market at the time.

I gotta argue with Scotty, the '92 Celica was the best. My main argument is POP UP, UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS and it didn't have those meth head looking circles like in the '93 and on models.
The gt-four is my second argument and I don't think much more needs to be said about that.
Finally, I think it was more reliable than the other Celicas. I drove my '92 like it was a rally car and the only thing to ever go bad was the fuel pump after 25 years. I don't recall it burning oil either. The was a small issue with the top leaking, but that was after a branch fell on it during a storm.
What killed it was me not knowing much about cars at the time. Not knowing that it was a stupid fuel pump and not the injectors or spark plugs or anything except the fuel pump. Parents convinced me to scrap it for fecking 200 bucks. Worst decision I've ever made.

I gave it a tune-up, and did basic maintenance on it, and I only had to replace the thermostat, and one fuse. That car flew down the road, and I could beat most Detroit 8s, because of the power to weight ratio. It had a sunroof, power mirrors, windows, locks, flip up headlights, and I think a power driver's seat. I am 6'3, and I had no problem sitting in it. However, the radio sounded like crap, because the equalizer was blown. The only reason why I got rid of it was because someone smashed it up. That was the best car that I ever owned.
