The Southern University "Human Jukebox" band squares up against the Jackson State University "Sonic Boom of the South" for the Boombox Classic. A highly anticipated annual football game between this heated rivalry. This footage is pretty much uncut, just added a few transitions and a few songs and other scenes I chose not to post. Where is the criticism of SU trumpets hanging all over the place on every song? The criticism was pretty bad when JSU trumpets used to do it just on the end of arrangements but SU trumpets are holding over on damn near every measure of their arrangements.
Its only a crime when JSU does it..... Southern can hang over on every song and nothing is said... #luvtheboom

At 2:11:12.............during this part of the game, while (SU) played, Dianna Ross, "Love Hangover"...................they were told by the Refs, to please do not play during football play, because JS-WHO, QB could not be heard on the field, as they were jumping off sides.

Drake - "Trophies". It's only considered cutting through when SU's band is playing btw. They cut through the tuba break lol
Lol a high school band would cut through when only SU's tubas and percussion is playing, do you understand that the rest of the band's horns are down? Cutting through means that both bands are playing (full instrumentation) and one is clearly overpowering the other.
This was like the Battle of Cannae x10,000. Every time the Sonic Boom of The South tried to impose their will on SU, the Human Jukebox had an answer for them every step of the way. I mean, the Boom had a 50+ person advantage over the Jukes and sounded MASSIVE, but the Jukebox were putting out some SERIOUS WATTAGE even though they were numbering 225.
All in all, both bands pretty much shut it down for the rest of the year after that, but considering this was Nathan B. Haymer's 1st official game as permanent Director of Bands for Southern University after 4 long months as Interim Head, what a way to start a tenure.
OAN: Should JSU's D.O.B Dowell Taylor step down for the 2nd and last time, and Associate D.O.B Roderick Little, a Sonic Boom alum and Liddell era Boomer, takes over, you're gonna be looking at the 2 marching bands you NEVER want to be sitting across the field from.

Damn, that horn section is crazy. They have really good players. And, I've always loved the music for HBCU's. And, I love the music for the drumming. But, they can be sloppy. If they could pull off the drumming, but sound in unison, it would be amazing.
