Great to have the tabs, I'm struggling with playing the higher 2 strings after the introduction, it should be a downstroke but I find it very difficult, so I just play the E strings upward with my middle finger lol.

back in the days as was a young teenager this game and this soundtrack and especially this song blew my mind. Im drifting in beautiful memories. I learned guitar, played in a lot of bands and this song is in my repertoire for sure

bro idk bout for u, but its freaking hard. im playing on an electric sense a friend is borrowing my acoustic. Its super fun trying to figure out the hand positioning on some of the chord progressions. how far have u gotten into the song?
I've been playing guitar for a little over two years. It took me about 5 to 6 hours to learn and practice the song. I can play it well now. There is a YT video from Marcelo Guimaraes where you can watch him play. It helps to see the finger positions in addition to the tab. Good luck!
1:04 is the flashiest part of the song imo. Just get good at using your pinky finger to hit that pesky 4, 5, and 4.
Also when you switch chords... it may be difficult moving all 4 fingers to different positions at once... so I've been switching 1 finger on an "as needed" basis. So like, by the time the 4th note passes, I will have fully switched chords.

I hiccup at 2:16 big time.. but I can play up to 2:37 now. I have played guitar casually for 6 years, and spent probably 20 hours getting this far. Keep your patience up. :)
At 0:49 I use my thumb to hit the low E string on the 3rd, 2nd, then 1st frets. At 1:49 I bend the low E string on the 2nd fret. This simplifies things and adds to the bass.

songs pretty hard to learn to be honest the finger pick is crazy arpegios with 2 fingers never done it at that speed before reminds me of Dream Theater they use chords/modes similar to this in some of their albums

As a new guitarist, this is blowing my mind a bit. Can anyone recommend some techniques I should focus on to help me with this? Heh... even that first 01240. I just can't get my fingers to stretch that far and still hold the string down.
Start with something easier, get those fingers trained a bit first. It takes time, don’t give up!
I had the same trouble starting out. You can work on learning different (easier) parts of the song to help your fingers strengthen and stretch. (Just wait until you get to 2:36 - even that's still challenging for me lol) Also, I *STRONGLY* recommend you watch this video. It has some excellent exercises for fingerpicking.

You can start with this song I guess but id recommend coming back to it later since you need to get your fundamentals down first since you're gonna be finger picking and doing what might seem like odd finger positions.

@@AcousticOlli I thought so too, but every so often you can hear little imperfections and squeaks which wouldn't be there with any run of the mill program. Either he's playing the song (with some editing of course) or he's putting a ton of time into making a fake.
@@AcousticOlli I'm thinking he's using an electric acoustic guitar for this, which would explain the resonance, but I agree, some areas are a little suspicious like at 1:47 - EXTREMELY crisp and precise. But at 4:08 you can hear the strings deaden as he slides his hand up the neck.

Gawd I love this song. Brings back so many memories. Sounds almost dulcimer-like. This music really made Diablo haunting and magical, especially before the TKs and PKs took over (with a million trainers everywhere). One of the best games ever, one of the best game songs ever.

Starting at 325 it's nothing like the song. Good work, but I'll have to rework that part myself.
Does anyone know what a lot of the musical theory is behind works like this? I occasionally find them (usually either in video games or westerns), but it only rarely tends to focus on the same dark tonality that this piece has. Id love to really get a handle on it and what makes it work
Have no idea about the formal theory behind the dark songs like Tristam, but a lot of its mysterious and dreadful tone comes from the finger-style notes from the lower three chords followed by the upper three chords being hit individually by the thumb. I'm not sure if all finger-style songs are like this, because this is the first song that I actually learned finger-style from, but the binary allowed between the continuous plucking of the lighter strings and the less frequent but heavier thumb plucks seems to assist in giving the song its vibe. Hope this helps
tritones. tritones everywhere. www.uberchord.com/blog/the-tritone/ literally referred to as "the devil's interval", creates tension that tingles your spine. other than that, just generally peppering in minor chords and throwing in some spanish guitar (the game is called diablo, after all...) and BAM you've got yourself a folksy, oddly haunting little ditty that you can't get out of your damned head for the rest of your life apparently.
@Colin Ahearn just went through their list of 25 Tritone songs. must be why DOOM music sounds like DOOM and demons too lol. The Call of Ktulu by Metallica (the intro) also has that Tristram vibe.

Standard tuning?
Anyone know how 2:43-3:15 is fingered? At the start, is it a 9th fret barre across the first 4 strings, with pinky and ring on the 12th? I've got most of the rest of the song figured out, but this section still stumps me.
I know ) 9-9-12-12 (forefinger mini barre on 1234 strings, little finger mini barre on 1,2 strings.) then 9-9-11-12 (forefinger mini barre on 1234 strings, ring finger 1 string (11) little finger 2 string (12)). Then, 8-0-9-9 (forefinger (8), open string, ring finger 3 string (9), middle finger 4 string (9)). Then same chord, but forefinger move to 7. Done :)

this can be played on both classical guitar and electric, practice and you will succeed )
@@ebunnyful if you say it's possible I believe you, but I think a classical might make the fingering easier because it's harder to accidentally mute strings
