Like Ohio State or hate them, you must respect their marching band. That was a great walk through time. Alice from The Brady Bunch died a few months ago. I'm sure she would have loved that.
Actually, they did this all in weeks. The Ohio State marching band does a different show for every game. They also have far fewer sets than high school marching bands, and they are actually quite simple. Not to mention these are men and women who have done this for at least 4 years.
***** Er.... the band is not made up entirely of seniors. There are people in there that are performing for their second week in the band. Yes, they do a new show for every home game at least; sometimes the same show will be performed on the road or home as the week before. The students learn the set and music usually within a week. And if you can point me to a high school band that does more than this, I'll have to go see them, because that would be flat out amazing.
ericanicole909 And not everybody in the band did marching band at all in high school. I know people who did only concert band on a woodwind instrument and switched to a brass instrument when they got to OSU just so they could try out for the marching band
I know what the superbowl needs to do for a halftime show. Instead of getting some singer who is hardly family friendly, get OSU's marching band to play. No one doubts that OSU is the best marching band ever, and it would be far better to use that as the halftime show than Janet Jackson, Madonna, or Beyonce, none of which are family friendly.
Charlie Griffey it be sick to have the marching band all decked out with all the extra shit the singers do when they perform. Imagine pepl ziplining down to the field while playing. Amazing.
TheAwesomeKing86 The best marching band ever? In the history of marching bands? EVER? That’s a stretch. I’d argue they’re the best collegiate marching band in the United States. Anything outside of that is a bit far fetched.
Ohio State is one of the originators in multi-drill band movement and performance. They have consistently done an excellent show an the Big-10 has been the standard that others are measured against. Hats off to the Best Damned Band in the Land from another traditional powerhouse that has made a little name for itself as well...FAMU's Marching 100. It's a shame that we couldn't have gone toe to toe last year, but I see a meeting of the bands in the near future. The universal appeal of the half time show makes you one of the best. Hat's off!
Just unreal. The precision is incredible; the formations are a magnificent bonus, but they are acting like a band, not a bunch of soloists. Beautiful as usual.
This is amazing! I was in marching band in high school and remember how difficult it was to pull off something much simpler than this. Hats off to all the people who put their hard work into creating something so fun and well executed!
wow. what great memories from my marching band days. thanks and you guys did a wonderful job! especially that drum major. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment from all participants
Oh so you are still living in the past, and haven't realized that the new football season started, you know the new season that is the only thing mattering now. But hey, they only played 2 good teams last year and lost both of those.
That was staggering, you all should be so proud of yourselves, If you can do this, be so dedicated you should have no problems out in the world of work. Fantastic

I LOVE MARCHING BAND. I'm in Marching Band, and let me say, it's the best thing you could have ever get yourself into. We have so many competitions, not exaggerating, we have a lot. So many porfomances, practicing is everyday, for so many hours; it's amazing and a lot of hard work. But... It's worth it!
Loved the horse"silver".my teacher always said when you can listen to the "William Tell overture" and not think of the lone ranger.you will be a genius.sorry teach it was my favorite show.
At this time, 54 people cannot possibly know how much innovative thought and just plain hard work goes into this, or how much stamina something of this magnitude takes. Ohio State Band, from a former member of the SMU Mustang Band, I salute you with a hearty HUBBA HUBBA!
Thank you, Ohio State, for stepping it up. I was in marching band for 10 years, 20 years ago, and am SO tired of Big Swirly Lines. It's so much more interesting for both fans & band to make recognizable shapes, and you've done it so well that I can only hope the rest of the country hops back on the bandwagon!

This is amazing but... 1. How long do they practise for this, so 2. When do they have time to study? (I mean, they are supposed to be university students, right?)
hey, a little question: the drum line is amazing, but who in the world is that guy that seems to be only doint one thing: throwing his stick in the air? i mean, what is his role in the drum line and what is it called? thanks :)
He's the drum major. He doesn't play an instrument. His job entails, literally, doing tricks with the baton. He's actually really good at what he does despite his mistakes in this video. I chop that up to nerves being the first home game and all.
I bet Ohio Stadium is the only football stadium in the nation where the upper deck seats sell out before the lower bowl, and the visitors fight to sit on the OSU sideline. Didn't know the band was this awesome and if I had a kid that loved marching band, I would encourage them to go to OSU ;)
They map out all the shows in a specialized computer program. Highly sophisticated stuff. There are a couple of articles online that you might be able to find through Google. Hope that helps.
If you mean how they go from one set to another, then yes they memorize everything. They use computer programs, like the person above me said, to map out the show. Then they print out coordinates that can be used on a football field and give a drill sheet to each person marching to learn/memorize. It really is fantastic how well they can do these shows in such short time
TheRussianLionTamer i think they had several people watching from somewhere to help people know where to go through a mic and earpiece if they got lost
I take a back seat to nobody among LSU alums in my loyalty to The Golden Band from Tiger Land™...but one must acknowledge excellence wherever it is produced. I commend the Buckeyes for a magnificent performance! Hopefully your band and ours can have a halftime battle someday.
TWACK!! BAM!! This shows why THE Ohio State Marching Band is the BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!!....even if the drum major in the middle screwed up :-) (probably a freshman !!)
this is amazing! Love how they actually had the Brady Family in each of the squares, lol. One thing that bugs me though, they did the theme for The Office but not I Love Lucy? It better be because they couldn't get the rights. I Love Lucy was basically the first sitcom ever on TV. Otherwise, this was epic! love it! How many hours of practice does it take for them to get this down cold?
You heard the announcer say that a few years back we did a similar show? I believe it was in 2008, and I think they did "I Love Lucy" back then, so they didn't want to repeat.
Like Ohio State or hate them, you must respect their marching band. That was a great walk through time. Alice from The Brady Bunch died a few months ago. I'm sure she would have loved that.
The office theme song came and I died
Jacobe Swagerty that’s what she said
This must have taken hundreds of hours of practice to get just right. Really well done
Actually, they did this all in weeks. The Ohio State marching band does a different show for every game. They also have far fewer sets than high school marching bands, and they are actually quite simple. Not to mention these are men and women who have done this for at least 4 years.

Mike Adams I think ***** was saying that they had 4 years in high school, not that these are all seniors.

What's crazy is that they do a show of this (or relatively nearly this) quality for each home game. Completely new content each game.
4:40 the office
@Vernel you are very welcome

Way better idea
We gotta get the NFL to get UOI band to play for half time

Everyone was looking forward to a visit from FAMU's Band. Great shame it didn't come off.
It must suck to be on the otherside
they probably have it on the jumbotron too
Arkansas fan here, I had never seen a half time show quite like this band put on, greatest band in the land, my hats off to them. Great performance.
How is it that a big group of people have neater spelling than me?
Neater spelling?😂
Absolutely fantastic. I can only imagine all of the practice it took to create a show this complex and pull it off flawlessly. Well done.
we should all petition to have Ohio state do the half time show at the 2016 Superbowl instead of pop stars whose with me comment "I" 😂

Just unreal. The precision is incredible; the formations are a magnificent bonus, but they are acting like a band, not a bunch of soloists. Beautiful as usual.
Looks like the band practiced more than the actual football team. and executed better as well. Urban Meyer should take some tips from the Drum Major.
I just had the biggest bandgasm
+P.J. Weiner same XD
Yesssssssss
The football team might let us down but the band never will.
This might be my favorite one for the office and game of thrones
I don't even have the words to express how truly amazing these people are. I love their shows! Absolutely amazing!!!
And only 1 week to learn the entire show! After class

They continue to amaze year after year, earning their well deserved title of best damn band in the land! Thanks for 10 minutes of pure enjoyment!
Awesome! Ohio State Marching Band is superb.
That was reaaaaally cool! Good luck on yalls season - from a Red Raider at Texas Tech University :)
Watching these videos makes me miss marching band so much.

AWESOME, AMAZING show. Well done, Ohio State Band!!!
If only their football team was half as good as the band.
Didnt lose a game in 2 years regular season. You were saying?
AlternateHistoryHub It's hard to make that case after this game in particular.
Oh so you are still living in the past, and haven't realized that the new football season started, you know the new season that is the only thing mattering now. But hey, they only played 2 good teams last year and lost both of those.
MegaColdshoulder Virginia Tech has a younger team than OSU.
AlternateHistoryHub Yes, playing in the EXTREMELY HARD B1G must be very tough.
I can't imagine all the manhours that took to choreograph. Not to mention all the practice it required!!
I really hope I get to go to a school with a great marching band. Sousa pride!
Every time I watch this marching band, I always get chills!! They are soo good!!!
No words, just tears of joy
Ohio state has to be proud of this band. Im new to them and am amazed. Best band ever. Im am in awwww.
That was definitely worth 9 minutes and 32 seconds of my time. Outstanding performance! Thank you for posting this.
Never ceases to amaze me!!! The best damn band in the land!!!!
I know i must doin' my homework now but....this is speechless
I watched this first in seventh grade. I can't even remember what we were learning about but I remember OSU's band. XD
Spectacular!!!! My favorite was the surfer for Hawaii Five-0! That was so cool!
For an old dog like me, that was wooonderful! Brought back memories, and made me happy.
That was fun!!! Great stuff. Really enjoyed that. Hard work pays off. What great entertainment at half-time.
Fun show from OSU (as usual).
I was really impressed with the trumpets during the Lone Ranger/ William Tell Overture.

***** She probably recognized the majority of them. After all, she said she only didn't get some of them.
***** mind educating me about what game of thrones is about?
I only have the bare minimum knowledge of this show
***** I didn't know The Game of Thrones...I had to read thru comments to figure it out. lol
As much as I love these songs, I'm surprised they didn't go for tv shows that were under 40 years old.
Game of Thrones.
The Office? The Simpsons?
hawaii five-0? kind of?
The old ones are the best ones.
This is amazing but...
1. How long do they practise for this, so
2. When do they have time to study? (I mean, they are supposed to be university students, right?)
One week start to finish, two hours a day. They fit study time around practice.
Absolutely fantastic!
Bravo! Just Amazing!
Can't stand Ohio State football team, but love the band! amazing

It is "I Dream of Jeanie"

i bet they are also the only stadium where people actually stay during halftime and aren't rushing to the bathroom or to get in the concession line ;)
Absolutely AWESOME.
They are absolutelly GREAT...
What tv show was at the 7:30 mark?
"best damn band in the land"
Damn... just imagine the time and effort put into routines like that. Awesome.
That was amazing. More exciting than football itself! That takes a lot of training for sure! Great job, Buckeyes!
Guys does anyone have any idea how they choreograph this? Do they use spotters or is this all done on memory?
They map out all the shows in a specialized computer program. Highly sophisticated stuff. There are a couple of articles online that you might be able to find through Google. Hope that helps.

Thank you for loading this! I guess the highlight of the night. TBDBITL!!!!!!!!!
It is so refreshingly wholesome to hear the audience hoot, holler, and make more noise for The Lone Ranger than Game of Thrones. :D
To have played this later in would have been uh only reason I would have stayed in marching band. That was great!
WOW!! Where is the LOVE button!!!
That was Awesome! It must have taken forever to practice the ones that looked like they were moving.

THIS IS SO COOL! Woah, our marching bands can't catch up to this standard yet. Envious!!
Great halftime show.
Best marching band in the land
Why do they even call it football. Most of the time they using their hands.
SUPER MUSIC OUT OHIO POOR GERMANY FOR ALL THE GOOD PEOPLE. !!PROUD USA
Go Bucks! Best band ever!
This performance was AMAZING
Joshua Lucas We love the TV sets we have today. Back when Joshua Lucas (My Dad) was a kid, all he had was the stupid rounded screen CRT-TV
Hawaii Five-O actually is geared towards Oregon since Marcus Mariota is from Hawaii. When he makes a TD or big play the Oregon Band usually plays it.
I don't even like marching bands but I'm impressed!
That was awesome must of taken a long time to get it right!!
LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
i wonder how much yelling by the director it must have taken to get that all done
Absolutely amazing. (I'll forgive them for not having pink smoke come out of Jeannie's bottle.)
The first season was black and white so it was white smoke!
We love you America!

it was hard to hear with all the echoing but that must explain it then.
K I'm going to Ohio state this is amazing
Wow!!! Hope the Director of Music makes as much or more than the head football coach!
Great performance. It's obvious the band has not been victimized by the "Urban Meyer" effect like the football team has
