It’s my experience that hanging a leather bag from its straps creates stress marks throughout the body and straps of the bag. People can take one look at your bag, and know that it has been hung while being stored. If you want to hang your bags, stuff them carefully with tissue paper (not heavy towels or t-shirts), insert the bag into a dust bag that fits it well, and hang ONLY the dust bag itself. A hobo bag can be stored sitting on a shelf by stuffing it in a way that preserves the rounded shape of its bottom.
Good advice Melissa.
Excellent my toughts also!
I stuff bags that I am not using frequently with old towels - works well! I love your idea of hanging bags on clothes hangers and I will use this tip for my everyday bags and totes.
Hi Jo, towels are a good tip and a great idea for those with limited space, too! 😍
Thanks for tip on storing bags. Unfortunately I don’t have room in my closet to hang all my designer bag’s, but I do have them stored flat in s storage bag. Some of them I stuffed to keep the shape.
Great idea!! Love your channel, you are one of the few creators I have found talking about color and pattern within a capsule wardrobe.
I agree! I love wearing color and these videos help me SO much.
@@EweEweYarns Thank you - I'm so glad the videos have helped you! 😀
Thank you, Cynthia! Let me know if you have any specific questions on capsule wardrobes for fashion. 😀
I sell fashion on eBay and Poshmark and this is how I store most of my handbags. I also, will sometimes put tissue paper or crumpled up paper bags inside them to help them retain their shape. The paper bags also work rolled up to store in boots to keep their shape.
Hi Wee Scotties! Thanks for the tips from a selling pro! 🤩
Just found your channel and have binge watched every video (some a few times). So happy to find someone using colour and capsule type wardrobes!
Hi Nancy, It makes my day to hear you like the videos. Let me know if you have a fashion question or topic you'd like me to cover! 😀
Me too I’ve just found your channel and watching all your videos! It’s good to see capsule wardrobe ideas with colour and patterns. Good advice to look in your wardrobe and see what colours and patterns you like best, I really like your colour pallet 😁 what advice on shoes/ boots though 🤔I’m in the UK we need to have items for all weather conditions!
that may be a wonderful tip but I do not have room in my closet to hang bags. My closet is small
OMG I love your Neon Pink stuff on your blouse!! so beautiful!!
Yes, great idea and make perfect sense. Wish I had the hanging space though!
I just watched another video that says the exact opposite. It showed how the weight of the bag, when hung, pulls on the seams and deforms the bag. So I guess filling it with paper to keep its form and keeping it standing might work better.
Great idea if you have space for it. I just stuff mine with paper and set them on the shelf if they have some structure. If they are hobo bags I put up some command hooks and hang those. Lots of comments on here about boot storage. I got a tip somewhere to use pool noodles. Get one and cut in half for a pair of boots. Works really great. I also use command hooks for my necklaces.
I love your pool noodle and command hook tips, Kathy! Thanks for sharing! 🤩
Before there were pool noodles, I would curl a large magazine to make my boots stand up.
@@2atthemill190 Genius boot trick! 👢
I am a Lilly Girl also, I love your videos and seeing how you style some of the exact pieces I own.
Awesome to hear, Lisa! 💕
I have heard that hanging bags on hangers will stretch the handles, but obviously you haven't had any problems. Thanks for this great video.
Hi Carol, Nope! I haven't had any problems with handles stretching.
Like Paula, I am short on hanging space. I have lots of shelf and cupboard space but relatively little hanging space. I wonder if it has to do with the age of my house: 65 years with no renovations. Many fashion and organizing gurus recommend hanging all kinds of things, but I just cannot do that. I do find that standing my purses and totes right next to each other keeps them in good shape; they support each other. Also, like I do with boots, one could put empty Pringles (or similar) cylindrical containers inside the totes. They stand in the same spot until you put the bag away.
I keep the original paper stuffing that came with the bag and restuff when I am not using a particular bag. Keeps the shape intact !I do hang some of my bags as well.
Very helpful tips thank you. I looove your hair style, especially how the back is graduated🤗
Great tip! I’ve never seen that before. Thanks!
I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Susan! 😀
Great tips if you have wardrobe space.
I also stuff with tissues.
Thanks still, for all your great advice.
Glad you enjoyed it, Pam! 😀
Did not know this but going to start storing my handbags the right way! Great tip!
I've been doing the hanging bag thing for years & my husband thought I was strange but it works, if you put a piece of cardboard at the bottom the bottom stays flat too👍🏽🙏🏽
Great tip, Sandy! Thanks for sharing! 😍
Great tips
Thank you so much, Gracelia! 😍
Great tip! Thank you!
I'm glad you found it helpful, Ray! 😀
Very nice content . You look great too !
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 💕
Great idea!!!
Thank you so much - glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Good tip 👍🏻
Sounds good in theory if you have a large closet or a small number of bags, I have neither one! I just subscribed so I’m going to watch some of your other videos. I definitely have too many clothes and need to pare down and get organized. Handbags are another issue for me, really have a difficult time letting go!
I don’t own any designer bags that came with dust covers. Just wondering how you get inspired to mix and match the bags with outfits if they are covered? I like to hang mine from wall hooks so I can see them and they don’t take up my limited rod space.
I use old pillowcase as dust bags ;)))
Does it not put pressure on your handles as I find a lot that they are the first thing that shows wear and tear with me. Btw love all your Beautiful colours in your wardrobe. My Sister lives in Sarasota and has such fab colours too.
Hi Pam, Great question! As you can see, the one bag (that I didn't ruin) has been hanging in my closet for at least 12 years and the handles are still in great shape.
Marie Kondo stores her bags nesting inside each other starting with the largest bags, then medium and small.
That way they retain their shape and work well in a smaller space.
Great tip, Sharon! Love to Kondo everything! 😍
I’ve done this for years! Also hang necklaces that can get tangled.
Glad to hear it, Laury. Great tip on hanging necklaces, too! 😀
I had a walk-in closet ar my last house. Here, I do not. I'm glad you have enough room to hang your bags. I also have found that the weight of a bag pulls on the handles and cracks the leather or material used to make the handles.
It’s spring and I’m putting away my black and beige capsule wardrobe. Bring on the Lilly Pulitzer and all the color. I do want a navy and white capsule for spring/summer. Very French looking. Any suggestions.
Hi Monique, A navy and white capsule is perfect for spring and summer - very classic and chic. I'll have to do a video on a navy and white capsule! 😍
I have a handbag organizer with sleeves that I slide my bags In and out when I need them
Great idea, Maria! I need one of those 😍
Hanging bags for long time worn the leather on the handles plus bending the leather as well. This happens to me when I used this technique. I don’t know what is the alternative.
If you find it's stretching the handles, try stuffing the bags so they can maintain their shape without damage to the handles.
Enjoy your videos. Do you know when Lilly is going to have a sale? Thanks
From what I understand, there is one in January and sometimes another one in August.
I've been doing this for years but just know that it does take up a lot of room if you have a lot of bags... If I have smaller bags I can put more than one on one hanger as long as my hanger is sturdy.
Love you outfit
Thanks so much, West Ace! 🥰
Hanging your bag, does that put to much stress on the straps?
Hi Gwendolyn, My bags are hung empty, so there's nothing to really weigh them down. Several of the bags I've had for 15 years and no problem. 😀
You are the best. Can you cube to my home in Fort Myers and help me!!! I have a pool
Thank you so much, Linda! Oh, a pool sounds very enticing! 🤔🥰👙
So you're saying the bottom of my closet is a bad place for my bags 😂
I just watched a video on caring for designer bags and she saids hanging them from the strap can stretch it and cause stress one the leather from being pulled so sit them on a shelves covered and stuffed the inside so go figure?
who has room for hanging bags?LOL
Why not just stuff it with acid free tissue paper? Manufacturers send out purses and totes with that in it to preserve the shape.
Hi Nicky, great question! I find the tissue paper eventually loses its bulk and ends up all over my closet.
Great ideas!!!
Thank you so much Deanna! I'm glad you enjoyed them😀
