I would love to see a video like this about Metallic Madness Zone. It has so many gimmicks but they're all really cool and easy to understand. A great example of a level that was improved from the original (not that the original was bad, just not as good)
the original was kinda bad tbh Metallic Madness (as do others in CD) suffers from sprawling, confusing, and unforgiving level design Mania improved on it completely
Eh, CD's my (second) favorite Sonic game, and even I hated that stage. The confusing labyrinth-like structure, tons of cheap shots, tubes, lack of time-travel spots (if you're going for that), and THAT DAMN PIT FROM ACT 3.

Flying Battery was already my favorite zone in sonic mania (mainly because of the music), and I'm glad this video used it as an example, and now I also like it because of the level design.

no it doesn't Sonic Colors had a better story and that story wasn't even good and I don't mean better as in subjective tast, I mean they actually explain what is happening, in forces things just happen with no explanation or just ends abruptly. ex, classic sonic, wisps, infinite, the phantom ruby.... Yes other sonic games have plot holes but I didn't think they where nearly as bad as this.

I'm pretty sure the main reason why this video was made is because Alax loves the Flying Battery theme. Can't really blame him for that, that theme is an absolute banger.
The thing not touched upon in act 2, is that the exterior sections of the Battery are recycled Wing Fortress Zone sections from Sonic 2, which was a nice throwback touch as well. They managed to squeeze two zones with similar themes together and make it mesh seamlessly. Other nuances I liked included how the background inside the Battery coincided how high or low in the ship you were, giving you a real sense of being inside a limited physical space... Instead of just... Platforming.

Have to be honest, I really like flying battery in S&K. of course Lava Reef and Mushroom Hill aren't exactly good, but the music, the styling, and the actual level made for a fun but slower-paced sonic level. I understand why someone would not like the stage, but I think it is a lot of fun.
I agree overall, and think that the new Flying Battery in Sonic Mania is definitely the better version. Just one improvement I would make would be to actually remove a bit of the second act. I want to explore more, and there is a lot to explore, but if I explore as much as I want, I will die due to the time limit. Also, that act is longer than pretty much any other act (or comparable to the longest ones). I would have actually made the airplane first act the first act of Flying Battery for Sonic and Tails (instead of for Mirage Saloon). Thus, they would be able to enjoy more of Mirage Saloon (since even though I think Flying Battery is improved, it is still a repeat level, and it is still not as fun as Mirage Saloon in my opinion). So yeah, have the flying sequence with Sonic and Tails be the first act of Flying Battery (if it can't be a one-act zone on its own so as to not take away from other levels), and take about a minute or two off of Flying Battery Act 2.
When i played the original games , back when i was 13 , i always assumed that the slow parts of the levels were parts where Robotnik did his best to slow down an eventual Sonic invasion. Robotnik needed time to achieve his plans, so he needed to slow Sonic down as much as possible. Hence the time limit. After two games, you pretty much expect Robotnik to take measures to defend itself from Sonic, since Sonic already spoiled his plan twice before.
