It must have been very hard, for the family to hear all the gruesome details. I have been in tears hearing it all. My God.The obliteration of Tylee and JJ's lives accounted for nothing in Lori's eyes. I find it very difficult to comprehend how a mother could allow this to happen, but then again, she is no mother. Muchelle: Correct, Lori does not have a good case. It's seems defense will argue that Lori was a
"good," mother before meeting Chad. Then she was under his spell, manipulated by him to participate in these crimes.
I suspect Chad's defense will do the same, argue that he was a good husband and father, until he met Lori.
If the jury accepts those arguments, it could reduce the punishment.
The evidence against Lori and Chad is overwhelming. The defense is aware there is no way to create "reasonable doubt," So they are likely to argue, "diminished capacity."
Attorneys work with what they have.
This case is as close to a video of a "smoking gun," case as it gets.

@@Dozidotes I watched the entire 6 weeks of the Depp v. Heard trial, Murdaugh trial and several other super high profile trials in the last few years. The "UMs" were never an issue. In fact, in public speaking on the most basic level, this is a very poor way of communicating and puts a person's credibility on the line. A pause instead would be a little more effective but they both indicate a stall in the thought process. Occasionally used? Expected and no big deal. But when they proliferate every sentence it is hideously annoying and greatly reduces the effectiveness of what's being discussed. It's unbearable in this trial.

Completely normal in most of the trials I watch. The ones where it's not are usually high paid lawyers that likely trained that out of their vocabulary somehow. Um is a natural filler word when we humans are thinking. That doesn't go away just because you are a lawyer and will likely increase in a high profile case where they know the public is going to pick apart everything they say or do.
