    What I also love about this video,is the odd sound the landing gear made when the aircraft made a sharp turn from the taxiway on to the active runway before takeoff.I remember that sound distinctly on this aircraft 40+ years ago back in the day,like on Pan Am 747-100's leaving HNL.With later versions of the 747,this "gear turning" sound was removed,like on the 747-400. But not on the original aircraft with the 100 and 200 series.

    Love that contrast of the 747-SP with the A380's in the background. The engine sizes too and how they have developed; the 747-SP with JT9D's from PW delivering 47,000 pounds of thrust versus the RR Trent 900's which Malaysian opted for, delivering 75,000 at a minimum. I flew a few times on the 747-SP with Qantas, last time in 2001 just before they retired last SP and in recent times have notched up around 25 flights on the 380; never get tired of flying especially on the big planes.

      I was thinking the same thing. I love the comforting, gentle drone of the PW JT9D-7F engines on this aircraft. I enjoy the harsher growl and sharper/deeper "buzzsaw" sounds of larger, current turbofan engines but this sound will always speak to me. I'm reminded of my "airline brat" days on TWA flying aboard their 747-131 aircraft. Such happy memories.

    • @charliecrane8537
      @charliecrane8537 6 місяців тому

      Exactly.... Just like flying United 747-200's back to SFO after an Easter vacation in Hawaii.This video is exactly what those flights sounded like too back in those days.The climb out,flaps retracting,changing engine RPM's after 2 minutes for "Cruise Climb" to cruising altitude like an initial altitude of FL330,everything about it.I can hear it in my mind still to this day. I'll never forget those flights and those were fun travel memories.Love it!

    • @charliecrane8537

      I really think those "old school" Pratt& Whitney engines on those specific aircraft really made it special back in those days flying on those aircraft. That's what made flying fun.The harmonious sound the four engines made is unforgettable to me and very pleasing to my ears.If I had one wish only,it would be to fly on that type aircraft again! I'd do it in a heartbeat.

    The 747-200 and 300 series aircraft was really the best aircraft the World over.It was always my favorite aircraft to fly on in the 1970's, the 1980's and a few final flights on them in the 1990's. Those Pratt & Whitney or Rolls-Royce engines were the best sounding on long, nearly minute long take off rolls from hot,tropical airports around the World.There is just nothing else like flying on one of them.When you flew on a 747-200 or 747-300 back in the day,that was a very special flight.

      Like taking off from Honolulu,Hawaii (HNL) from 8 Right,the "Reef Runway" and the slow climb out eastbound with the Waikiki skyline and Diamond Head on the left as you flew back to Los Angeles or San Francisco after a vacation in Hawaii.Those were my favorite flights back in the day.And hearing the Takeoff engine power setting transition to "Climb power setting" shortly after take off.....priceless! There will never be an aircraft better than the 747-200.It really was the "Queen of the Skies".I wish we could still fly on them.It was really the best part of the trip to get on a 747 on the way over to Hawaii and/or coming back home.

      Actually, those are PW JT9D, but I prefer the TF39, which equipped only the C-5A Galaxy {Retired}, the C-5B Galaxy {Converted to C-5M Super Galaxy} and C-5C Galaxy {Converted to C-5M Super Galaxy}
      Edit: Correction at but {was bu}

    Awesome sound.Reminded me of my 747-300 flights with Swissair.The 747 sure is one of the greatest airliners and will remain in the hearts of many.Sadly they are slowly dying out these days and are replaced by crappy plastic planes

    • @Eternalsilence111
      @Eternalsilence111 6 років тому +1

      And those "crappy plastic planes" have more carbon composites to save metal and have more fuel efficiency than this 747. Also they can travel farther. Lmao you're just some old generation hillbilly who wants to operate an uneconomical jet into the 2090s lmao

      AirAsia 9M-NEO Airbus A320neo msn 7236 Well maybe I am.But we live in a free world where I can say my feelings.Yes,the new planes are more efficient.But they also dont have the same feel to them when it comes to flying.Maybe you are too young to have experienced these older jets so it may be difficult for you to understand our feelings and memories we have

    Unlike modern ETOPS birds, you really don't care if you have to shut down one engine on an SP.

      It´s actually just when turning left. No brakes were used. Had the same on my two flights in February and March from KUL to IKA and back to KUL a few days later.

      The wheels of the main landing gear as the aircraft turns, on an old jumbo. I got that on Tower Air a long time ago. It's unpleasant but not a safety issue.
