    Bobby Whitlock!!!!! Thank you for another great video. I recently saw a interview with Eric. When they asked him about you, he hung his head a little looking like he was going to tear up. Then lifted his head and said that you were the closest thing to a brother he had ever had. You could see the love that he has for you. Thanks again for the video,,, stay safe and continue being you. That is so incredibly generous of Eric Clapton to buy you the rights to your songs back. And you are a true friend not to bad mouth him when, I’m sure the media has twisted his message. Bobby you are such a treasure of honesty and wisdom. I had no idea I’d be listening to you speak regularly 46 years ago when I first heard you call / response and yell “Let it Rain” on EC’s first solo album before the Dominos Layla album. My reaction then was “who was that!?” Wow! And now I listen to you and your demeanor and tales of life’s lessons and I am just as wowed. Of course you don’t need the diamond rings anymore, because you are the gem.

Several things stand out, his versatility on the guitar his singer-songwriter chops, his ability to play with so many people, and of course his getting sober and staying so, are all so positive things to those of us who care.I came and stayed for the music, always will. Y'all are so good about this whole thing with these vids, I have been watching almost since the beginning and you bring us into your home, teach us things and the credibility and honesty shine thru. One of the greatest performances I’ve ever heard is the Dominos playing the Fillmore East in 1970, I have never heard a band flow together so well and play with such a good groove as the Dominos did on those two nights at the Fillmore. I truly think it is the greatest performances by every member of the dominos out of any performance they ever had and I am truly fascinated by the performance and the musical relationship between the band, especially on those nights. I listen to In Concert, and Live at The Fillmore every day and I never get tired. Is there any chance that you could do a video where Bobby talks about those two nights at the Fillmore and how everything went down and what it was like for him. And possibly talk about other dominos concerts since there is unfortunately very little information about them, and quality live recording of the dominos available.

    • @MichaelMangroo
      @MichaelMangroo 2 роки тому +5

      Hi Max, I was only born in 1971 but since I was a teenager I was listening to Derek & the Dominos as well as the whole of EC's career. The Dominos stuck with me, even to this day and I am 51 years old now. Groove, coolness, mood, total heart and soul. I remember buying the Fillmore live vinyl, it was called "In Concert" back then but now its got more tracks on it. Clapton was at his best during this time. People talk a lot about Cream and they sure were great but the complexity, fluidity, motifs in his playing during the Dominos was far superior. It's as if he wanted to engulf himself in the music. Even his singing started to take off during this period. I wish I could have seen them like you did.

    When people are not needy, you're more apt to open up and share your world with them... Truer words were never spoken. A lot of wisdom in this one... I had a 17 year long friendship fall apart over a year ago. I was always doing things for this friend. Up to several times a week the phone could ring, asking for a favor of one thing or another. When the love of my life died, I thought he'd understand. But all he was concerned about was whether or not I'd still be like I was before, doing things for him and keeping him entertained. I felt like I had two broken legs, and he just asked me for a piggy back. It hurt a lot...
    Anyway, sorry to ramble like this. You shared a little of you, so here's a little of me. Yeah, I can relate to a lot of this.

    1st- Just when I thought I couldn't love, respect and admire you more than I already do, you raise the bar.
    2nd- Heard a young and prominent hot-shot L.A. guitarist who's got a quite successful UA-cam channel offhandedly dismiss Mr. C. verbally now that he's 'out of favor' with 'the powers that be' in a live chat this past Sunday. After typing several comments which I cancelled rather than post because they were _way_ too salty, I just had to let it go. But I wish I'd posted the simple honest part of the comment that read: "Without men like Eric Clapton and his peers, you wouldn't have a job description, Cover-King". Thanks for giving me a reason to post it here in an ambiguous manner.
    3rd- Thank you, and Eric, and Duane, and Jimi for making me pick up a guitar and learn to play and sing soulfully and with real heart. That gift is invaluable, priceless.
    4th- "I Told You I Was Gonna Put You Down" is a song title whose song you need to write in my humble opinion. If you don't, I will lol! I won't really, but dang that was a good 'just fell out of you' line!
    5th- Thanks for being the straight-up stand-up cat that you are, love you both, mean it!

Now I live in NZ, with a home far enough away from everything, I have a good family, material things have no value to me. I have enough life experience to know that none of us are perfect but I can distinguish between a good man who is trying to do his best and a man who sold his soul. Today…I still listen to the album and still place bell bottom blues as my favourite song of all time…just for the vocals. The passion you invoked on each and every word sung made one literally feel the anguish ooze through the needle. Yes, Clapton always gave credit to the great blues players to whom he was indebted and even shared the stage with many of them, such as B.B. King. That is more than you can say for many other rock bands that stole material without giving due credit. You shouldn't be crucified for merely relating a personal experience as he did after receiving the jab twice and having bad effects. These one-size-fits-all approaches to problems are based on fear rather than tolerance and mutual understanding. Having a bad experience with the medical establishment can certainly change your perspective as I know from personal experience after almost dying after a botched gallbladder surgery which caused me to have peritonitis.

    Thank you Bobby - you continue to be an inspiration. I was lucky enough to sit at a table (with my mum and dad) next to Eric at a very small private UK event in 1998. He eventually took to the small (school-gym) stage with Andy Fairweather-Low and band and played an amazing set. He even invited Gary Brooker up and he sang A Whiter Shade Of Pale amongst others. Amazing. I found Eric to be a very natural, charming and generous man. Later in the night he was back at the table a few feet from me. I wanted to introduce myself but didn’t know how. After all I was a complete stranger of course. He was with his mum too it seemed, so in the end I decided to respect his privacy. Regretted it later though 😀 I love your work and your channel. The recent Layla Coda vid is brilliant 🙏 You can REALLY hear your ‘feel’ track on those keys.

    Eric Clapton has been an inspiration to me while dealing with some difficult losses of people close to me and I also learned to find strength in your true friends and in music. I listened to your commentary in Life in 12 Bars about how he was a tortured soul singing his heart out during the Layla album and that really resonated with me. My band and I cover a few of those songs and I they never get old. Just thought I would share that as well as say thank you for all the great music!

    The owner of the company I recently went to work for is roughly Bobby's age. One day I was sitting in his office waiting for something or other, and he was listening to this UA-cam channel. I hadn't known of it but recognized Bobby's speaking voice immediately, which surprised the boss because I wasn't even born in the 60s. It sparked a conversation about mutual music appreciation and we've became good friends since , and Bobby and his wife are largely responsible for that .
