Bobby Whitlock is an American treasure. When I was a 20 year old musician back in 1979, our band had the great privilege of opening for Bobby's band. He was so gracious with his time. We were discussing the ATMP recording sessions. I remember saying to him how nervous I would be to meet George Harrison. He said to me, 'George would be more nervous meeting me, than I would be meeting George!!''. He told me about the 2 tier process of recording Layla. With Jim Gordon composing the piano coda. One of the highlights of my life. A true legend and an absolute salt of the Earth individual. Bless you Bobby Whitlock. RNB
I've always wondered what Bobby's thoughts were of Ian Stewart. I consider Ian and Nicky Hopkins to be England's Bobby and Billy Preston. 4 sides of the same coin. And the hits! Mercy.... RNB
Thanks LindaLu. Bobby is as approachable and engaging as any musician I have ever met in my 46 years in the music biz. . An absolute sweetheart of a gentlemen. Have a great week. Cheers, RNB
So happy I found this channel!! Love listening to these stories. "I got clothes I couldn't find" LOL 🤣 And him explaining how to play the pump organ. PRICELESS! So glad Somebody thought to record all these stories. Best stuff on UA-cam besides the music. Thank you Bobby Whitlock ❣️💥 YOU need to be RECOGNIZED. IMHO 😉👍🏻
This is pure gold👍,a true gift. Hilarious where Bobby re-creates playing the bellows like two giant wah wah pedals. Which seems dang near impossible to do really well, that is sooo cool. Thanks🥰
Let’s forget the silly movies about Nationnal Treasure and ancient roman/egyptian things hidden under ground in USA. These kind of interviews and persons and music are real American treasures. I wonder how much this kind of interesting stories and facts we never would have heard without net and UA-cam? I hope this and other stories could always to be found. Thank you Bobby and Coco!
I'll tell you what, I listen to the album All Things Must Pass all the time, from start to finish, because the level of musicianship on that album is out of this world. I mean it's insanely good. I can't get enough no matter how many times I listen to it. What I would give to be a part of something like that someday.
Always been a fan of Bobby Whitlock even before Derek and Domino's when he was with Delaney and Bonnie he's a really cool guy Bobby he can tell a really fascinating intriguing story about life on the road with a lot of cool people I enjoy each episode even more
Bet Ringo turned Jeff Lynne's head a time or two with how he could get his kit to sound! Appreciate his style👍😎 Bruce Lee would have wanted you teach him that piano one touch string break!🤣👍😎 Life at Crackerbox Palace...Great music👍😎 👍😎❤🖖 Love folks
Great bass player, left us way to soon. I seen Carl Radle back in 1972. At The old New Haven Arena, in Connecticut. He was in Leon Russell's band at the time.
First, as a 68 year old drummer I think drummers are cats who like to hang out with musicians and Coco allows us to hang out with Bobby, very cool, and Happy New Year to you both and your pets too✌️
I only know of Bobby first, from Playing on " *All Things Must Pass* " album. I had no idea who he was, I just seen his name on the album credits. And from " *Derek and the Dominos* " Great keyboardist and singer!
After listening to this interview I went back and closely listened to your piano work in Beware of Darkness. I never realized what a powerful sound it added to the number. Awesome work Mr. Whitlock.
'Beware of Darkness'--especially when a thick, deadly piano string zings out like a flung guillotine. Lol...This unassuming, down home Southerner has enough stories of sublime and the ridiculous to make even a better film than 'Spinal Tap and Blues Brothers' put together. What to say...?! Thank you, Bobby and CoCo! Thank you for giving us the stories!
Bobby, i had the pleasure of meeting Joey Molland ,the only member of Badfinger still alive...saw him play two years ago..he is a great guy..took the time to talk with us for 30 min..two of them committed suicide..very sad..thanks for mentioning them.
Yep it's true; I've heard that story about the broken piano string a lotta times, but I still like hearing about it. I've always LOVED that note as my favourite note on the whole album. It burrows deep into my soul. That note. Every time. Thank you Bobby. XX
This is like 2 separate things happening simultaneously, history being shared and a couple having a conversation with each other at same time. Dynamics of a relationship, pretty cool.
Bobby's a living legend and a one of the most important musical historians of that era. Thank God his dark days of addiction didn't erase all of these amazing stories from his memory banks. And that laugh!
My Grandma in mountains of SW VA. had a pump organ. Probably the most valuable thing they had. Remember as a child listening to her play old hymns. Happy New Year to all and be safe.
🧛🏻♂️good evening ✌️😀 I love listening to All Things Pass and the Layla album even more than ever now 'cos I can see behind the scenes and the band! ✌️😊
It is insane the 50th year remix of All Things Must Pass didn't walk over broken glass to include every memory you have. Boggles my mind at such a tragic omission...
I love these interviews. Thanks to you both. Would love to hear something about the recording sessions for your first two solo albums and the musicians who played on them.
Dont think I've ever heard of a piano string breaking ,😎 but at the same time have heard the baffled drum sound on all Beatles solo records it seems , besides George's, but especially John's " instant karma" or pauls "maybe I'm amazed"
Thanks so much for these wonderful, insightful, videos! I've been getting seriously involved with a lot of Bobby's old material since finding y'all, and it's wonderful stuff that had gotten pushed back in my rotation, by my own mistake! The personnel list on All Things Must Pass reads like a mini Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Such great players! Ringo certainly never got the credit he deserved for his playing! He was the perfect drummer for The Beatles! Can you imagine Keith Moon or Bonzo with The Beatles? I can't......
Happy New Year 2021 B&C. Ok here goes, I was laughing so hard tears welled up. Just hysterical....I can just see you running that pump organ like Jerry Lee on a piano, whole lotta shaking going on....you know when I'm watching these I feel like I'm holding the camera and sitting next to your wife. It's really like were there with both of you. Superb.
Fantastic and insightful as always. When George asked Bobby "if he was going to be one of them (British Act) or go back to America" was that possibly a reason why Bobby did not play in the concert for Bangladesh? I know Leon Russel played, I guess would've been Bobby's role. It seems like a good portion of the ATMP players also played the Bangladesh concert. So in short why didn't Bobby play Bangladesh. You both need to do a netflix documentary, you can sell it in a minute. God Bless and keep on rockin!
I think Leon played at Bangladesh because at the time, He was recording "Badfingers" new album "Straight Up" From May 1971-Oct 1971 and George was producing at the same time. He probably asked him then.
Something I have always wondered.....Who played the electric rhythm guitar on What is My Life where it sounds like a very fast strummed plectrum banjo? It is so unusual and very accurate. And having played that part for George Harrison birthday gigs I can attest that you have to hold your mouth right to play it well.
Thanks Bobby and Coco for all this wonderful insight and beautiful stories, I was wondering if we could hear of some of the goings on with Eric’s first solo album. Peace and love .
If I wanted to hear the best mix of the All Things Must Pass and Layla, could you advise me which editions to get to hear the whole band as you were and not one remixed to minimize your contributions. "Isn't it a Pity "...man. More Gorgeous playing by Bobby Whitlock. Song still kills me...

Ringo called that the "Pudding sound" didn't he? At least when he tuned them down...
Ringo described his drum sound as pudding.
When Bobby was at Friar Park, was there ever any conversation with George as to the latter’s attitude/feeling of the breaking up of the Beatles?
All Things Must Pass was Georges first album...the others he did were his Beatle Stuff And Delanely and Bonnie of course...

Helter Skelter the song?
was Bobby asked to play the concert for George?
Sadly, no
To me the sound of D&tDs was the vocal harmonies first. Guitars on top of that. Good questions - incisive depth.
Why didn't Bob play at the Concert for George? That seems odd unless there was some unknown good reason(?)
"I got blisters on my fingers!" was Helter Skelter.
