100% same after I tried to twist that mother fker with my weak triceps so hard that my whole body was shaking on that unsteady chair I stepped on to reach that damn thing. Ugh. My day is saved
My wife wanted to make sure I thanked you. This worked like a charm. We used the Yellow rubber gloves. The dome light would simply not come off until we used your advice. 👍🏽👍🏽
So ridiculously simple... 🤦♀️ I'm embarrassed by how long the lights in our bathroom went without being cleaned because we couldn't figure it out! Thank you!
I had one that was stuck really bad. The previous residents probably never removed this light fixture. I took a rubber mallet and gently tapped around the sides. And it came out very easy after that. Rubber mallets are good in this situation.
Hi! I used your idea but changed it a bit since I don't have a rubber mallet. I used my knuckles and gently knocked all around the metal and glass and then was able to get it off the metal base! Thanks again for your idea!!
Thank you so much, my wife and I were having trouble finding a solution since our apartment has one of these dreaded nipple-less boob lights. Your instructions were quick and concise with no nonsense!
I'm 77 yrs old, 5 ft tall and not in the best physical shape but I got it and wanted to shoot whoever invented this beast. But the video really helped and the light is shining.
Depending on your fixture, you may have to turn the glass clockwise. I tried counterclockwise and it won’t budge. After much frustration, I happen to try clockwise and it dropped in my hand without much effort. I took it off and put it back on several times, it sure needed a small twist clockwise to pop it out.
I googled:cannot unscrew light fixture to change bulb. Your video popped up first!!! Of ALL of the light fixtures in the entire world and you are demonstrating mine!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you! I knew I had to spin it, but didn't think of using gloves. I thought it was just stuck! Awesome video! Got my bulbs switched!! Thanks again!
God bless you. No more showers in the dark. I was about ready to just break the durn globe. Looks like my base needs securing while I turn the globe! YEAH
Thank you for this! I tried using the gloves and read comments to tap the edges lightly with a rubber mallet (in case it still doesn't budge) and it worked.
You just saved me a bunch of confusion! The light in my hallway finally but the dust and I don’t want to call the maintenance people to come change it, because why bother them for a lightbulb, right? So I’m glad to see how the fixture comes apart so I can just do it myself! Thank you!
I thought I was crazy cause i couldn't see any screws. I've been without lights in my living room for 2 weeks until today. Thanks my friend. Writing this from Argentina.
I have a fixture just like this. This video is very helpful. I am going to wait until my bulb burns out before replacing. I have rubber garden gloves that should work. Thanks, you earned yourself a like.
Thank you. We had removed the whole fixture without removing the dome and then we couldn't get it attached again. After watching this video, we were able to remove the dome from the base even though it was just hanging there, clean the dome, put the base back on the wall after adjusting the screws a bit, and finally putting the globe back on the base. We still have another fixture to clean, but that should go much smoother.
So grateful for your grippy gloves suggestion. Worked a trick. Glass cover rotated so easily. Just by chance I had just bought rubber grippy gloves last week.
I have the exact same type of fixture and was paranoid I was going to destroy it if I did it wrong. Shelf liner’s been a lifesaver for other projects as well and did the trick here. Thanks!
Really a good video. Your video inspired me to do it myself and I did it. In my case, I helped myself with a long ladder so that I am comfortable in removing it. I had to try it few times before I was successful. I did not have any rubber glove so I used my bare hands, but, I made sure that my hands were dry and the glass lid was also dry
Just what I needed. I’ve been trying to get this hateful thing off for quite a while! A pair of rubber gloves, a rubber mallet, and a quarter-twist set it free. I have light, again! 💡 Mind you, a very light tap with the rubber mallet! 😆
thank you sir, i saw another video a long time ago and i forgot how to do it. thanks to this i was able to do it. I'm not handyman of any means but luckily i had those gloves.
THANK YOU!!!! We bought a house with this already installed. Figured it was one of those spring-loaded ones. Glad I decided to seek help instead of pulling down on it!
I tried to open the cover by turning clockwise and the whole fixative moved. Thanks to your helpful video and several minutes of twisting and turning, the glass cover finally came off. Now I can go to the next step!
Thanks you! I was stuck until I saw this, and thought maybe the whole thing was help up by clips which would release if I just pulled harder. Glad I found this first before doing anything that stupid.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for posting this. Now that I've got the cover removed, I need to figure out how to replace the actual light. It looks like a funky circuit board with LED's or something 🤔
Unfortunately I could not remove mine with the rubber gloves... it was on too tight. What I did was get my rubber ball-peen hammer and tapped on the metal ring around the glass globe. Don't tap too hard because this could dent the ring. Next, I hit the globe with glancing but strong taps in a counter-clockwise manner. Yes, it made black marks (a white rubber ball-peen hammer would be best) on the globe but these can be removed with glass cleaner. Success! It loosened the globe and I was able to remove it and clean the inside and change the bulbs to LED.
Thank you for this video, couldnt for the life of me figure out how to get my dome light open to replace the bulb lol. I used Ove' Gloves to get the glass off lol.
Thank you for this. We rent and we genuinely had no idea how to change this type of globes. Our lights base isn’t attached to the ceiling though (shoddy work) so wish me luck!
i didn't have any luck with rubber gloves, instead i loosened the fitting with WD-40, then taped around the glass cover and pulled on the tape to increase my torque moment arm. that did the trick
Both of these techniques work really well for a really stuck one! The issue is that using your hands, it's hard to rotate it without also pushing up. - Use a shoe sole or something else rubber to help spin it: ua-cam.com/video/EH2_QXUKvSw/v-deo.html - Use tape "handles" to spin it without pushing up: ua-cam.com/video/vXHylBQzrIs/v-deo.html
I am very grateful for this video . My light has been out above my door for about the last five to six years. I hate to say this but I couldn't get the damn thing off without thinking I was going to break it. I have 14 foot ceilings also
OMG, I have these crappy light domes. Thanks for the confirmation of what I had suspected but didn't want to force it and break anything. Going to now give it more muscle to change out with Philips ultra efficient 4.5W (65W equivalent) LED bulb.
thx for posting this, I came looking for wtf i can't get now 2 off. Didn't think of the gloves, ill try that this afternoon. 2 questions tho: 1) if we still can get it off, can I spray some oil? I hate wd40 for stuff like this so baby oil work? Or heat it up w hairdryer? and can we rub it down w baby oil for next time? both the 2 i never use so long time not undone & it always makes things harder. 2) The 1 bottom my stare is small & I see its kinds brown from too hot for higher old bulb on too long so now I want to switch it to the new plastic bulb that 100 over 60/75, for it doesn't hot & wint burn it brown so won't fear fore plus they brighter & in full underground basement, needs brighter light! I put in the new bulb but it doesn't work in it? I tried 3 & none work but regular does? My ex put a dimme4 switch on it cuz its part of the family room in basement & he hated the bright light in the eve. So im guessing its the dimmer switch cuz I have 6 of these & the 1 replace in main floor hal works fine. So what kind new bulb do I need in a dimmer switch light? A solid 100? or a 30/60/90 type adjustable bulb that adjusts? Any help w this part of these now nightmare lights since I became single, much appreciated!!
Sometimes I put a little WD 40 in the crack area to loosen it up. Don't use too much or it will be slippery. Latex or the rubber gloves used in this vid helps to keep you from dropping it.
I was able to twist the globe off. But, mine has no indentations on it. Can't figure out how to put it back on. The three screws just block it from going up farther. Not sure how it came off, but it did. Any suggestion how to put it back on?
How to remove one of these this is the only video that demonstrated exactly/precisely how to remove these SOBs. My friend said MF things, but anyhow, thank you thank you thank you
um, yeah totally grippy gloves but, glass wouldn’t budge but the whole fixture was more than willing to come off the ceiling. Now, I can’t remove the glass dome, and it’s been the biggest pain to try and reattach it to those two screws……any idea on what’s my next best move?
I’d like to have a word with whoever designed these monstrosities
I'd like to have two words with him -or her - and the second one is "off"
me too!!!!😠
me too!
Yes it's a f joke
Man!
A gentleman and a scholar. Ty. Was about to just pistol wip mine.

@user-sz7ue4of8r: "Moronically simple", is the phrase. As in whoever designed this type of fixture mount.
Simple, yet fu..king impossible!
I had one that was stuck really bad. The previous residents probably never removed this light fixture. I took a rubber mallet and gently tapped around the sides. And it came out very easy after that. Rubber mallets are good in this situation.
Rubber mallet did the trick. Thanks for posting this!

What would we do without YT?! I have done all my diy projects with the help of great videos like this one. Thank you !
Thank you so much, my wife and I were having trouble finding a solution since our apartment has one of these dreaded nipple-less boob lights. Your instructions were quick and concise with no nonsense!
I have a full ceiling titty, i had to also loosen the screw at the nipple
I'm 77 yrs old, 5 ft tall and not in the best physical shape but I got it and wanted to shoot whoever invented this beast. But the video really helped and the light is shining.
Hi Betty just just wanted to say thanks for being alive and making this funny comment

Thank you SO MUCH! I was in despair, then I watched this great video, and I had the whole process completed in under 2 minutes!

Do Australian dome lights unscrew clockwise? (I make joke)
Thank you, I feel less than a dummy trying to figure out this simple task.your video saved me
I googled:cannot unscrew light fixture to change bulb. Your video popped up first!!! Of ALL of the light fixtures in the entire world and you are demonstrating mine!! THANK YOU!!!!!
The most helpful video on all of youtube; I was at my wits end trying to figure this one out.
YEAH
Thank you - you gave me the confidence to give it a try without worrying that I'd be breaking it!
Thank you for this! I tried using the gloves and read comments to tap the edges lightly with a rubber mallet (in case it still doesn't budge) and it worked.

I was totally stumped as how to change the bulb in this fixture. Thanks for this very helpful video!

Great tutorial. Simple and easy. Thanks a lot. ⭐️
This worked amazingly well. I used a latex glove. Thank you!
OMG!! I thank you so much!! I haven’t had a light in the kitchen in three weeks!! Wow you can find anything on UA-cam!!❤❤
“And then there was light!”

Awesome! Glad I could help!
This helped - thanks! I live in an apt. Needed to change bulb, but wasn't sure how to remove dome. Thanks again.
I have the exact same type of fixture and was paranoid I was going to destroy it if I did it wrong. Shelf liner’s been a lifesaver for other projects as well and did the trick here. Thanks!
AHA! Thanks for this. Extremely helpful. These fixtures are getting replaced by something simpler as soon as I get them off. Thanks again.
Thank you for this, also, you are so skilled to film with your left hand and rotate that light cover with your right!
Almost dropped the glass a couple of times, but working on my skills, haha.
Thank you! I used my pink dishwashing gloves 😄. My maintenance guy broke one last time trying to get it off lol. Passing the tip along ⭐️

8inch spares on Amazon for 15$ ended up just smashing mine, and bought another. Who ever built this 1,000 years of bad luck upon your family.

Thank you for posting those Eric, the tape handles trick was fantastic - couldn't get the fixtue off any other way.
Your instructions worked on my light so thanks!!
Thanks to this video, I finally replaced the light bulb on the ceiling light that has been burnt out for 1.5 years. Lol THANK YOU!!!
Thank you, you were the first to explain it to me clearly!
I am very grateful for this video . My light has been out above my door for about the last five to six years. I hate to say this but I couldn't get the damn thing off without thinking I was going to break it. I have 14 foot ceilings also

Edit: even with the gloves, it's still stuck
Mine is stuck too. Did you figure it out yet?
@@bluesandgreens88 just keep trying. I got it and finally changed the bulb.
Same issue but with a square flush mounted fixture: suggestions?
Instead of unscrewing it in a circular motion, try unscrewing it in a square motion.
Thanks for sharing! Didn’t have the exact same fixture but using cabinet liner for grip did the trick
The trick is to first push it in before rotating it counter clockwise.
I was able to twist the globe off. But, mine has no indentations on it. Can't figure out how to put it back on. The three screws just block it from going up farther. Not sure how it came off, but it did. Any suggestion how to put it back on?
Thanks, your tip was a good solution for us.
First video that came up from my search. Thank you for saving us. I was ready to hit it with a hammer.
