  • Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) is such a beautifully written and animated movie. I knew Cassie would love it and she did!
    I'm happy that we watched it. She already said she's going to re-watch it with the subtitles now to see the difference.

    Movie so good, I literally traveled to Tokyo to take pictures of the final stairwell (it's real). And, to my surprise, I wasn't alone. Half dozen of us from various countries, standing in the April drizzle, knowingly smiling at each other. (The small shrine just 'off-camera' is quite peaceful).

    This was a great reaction and watch. Not only because the movie itself is wonderful, but I think seeing this really gets to the core of what we all like about watching reaction videos. Most of the ones we watch are reactions to movies we've seen and had a connection with. And I think we all LOVE the feeling watching someone else connect with something like this the same way that we do. We find ourselves doing the same thing, we watch the other person just as much as the movie itself. We keep peeking over to see if they seem like they're feeling the same way that we felt. I think it's why we on the one hand can feel so devastated when we show a person a movie we like, and they don't react in a positive way. If they dismiss it or seem like they don't care or get bored, it's almost as if they're dismissing our OWN feelings, through their reactions to something we've felt something to. We can get embarrassed or even even argumentative because it becomes less just an opinion about something we've seen, but more a devaluation of our own feelings on it. But if they do? It's one of the most wonderful things to see and experience with another person. We feel closer than ever to both the person we're watching the movie with and he whole experience of watching the movie. It's all very fascinating.
    It speaks to, I think, the heart of why these types of videos are so popular and a really unique little quirk that is a trait of what makes a human a human. I think at a very fundamental level, we're all looking to be understood and for our feelings to be valued, that even an indirect confirmation of how we feel by another can be so fulfilling. So, this was a great watch in all respects.
    It's a pretty adorable trait that every time she seemed to get overwhelmed with emotion she would turn and look over at you. And not just a little casual glance I mean she would turn away from what she was obviously reacting so strongly to, to look over at YOU, and lock on to you for a good second or two. Huh. People are so interesting,

    A lot of Japanese have commented that from the way Mitsuha was writing the japanese character on Taki's hand, she was about to write Suki (love) as well, meaning she was going to write "I love you" too before she disappeared.

    • @kroanosm617
      @kroanosm617 2 роки тому +2

      I was wondering about that.
      The horizontal line didn't match with the first character for her name.

    • @clareyzhbk7
      @clareyzhbk7 Рік тому +8

      It could be both caz Mitsuha is 三葉 or みつは in hiragana. (Just her given name without surname) So she could be writing her kanji or her hiragana, they both starts with a horizontal line so we couldn’t really tell. Of course, すきだ(I like/love you) also works but I think that’s be less aline with her character. Not a bad theory tho:) source: I have bachelor’s degree in Japanese.

    One thing that you should know is that Makoto Shinkai and his crew often uses real life locations (with a bit of changes) especially within Tokyo to maintain some verisimilitude. If you happen to be Tokyo, you might end up noticing these places or landmarks. Some of these locations, like the stairs at the end of the movie became pilgrimage spots for the fans, where once it was just a quiet corner in the city of Tokyo.

This is probably the most beautiful, and i use that word specifically, movies i've ever seen. The animation is utterly incredible, even Tokyo is drawn beautifully. My eyes get hot before the scenes that move me.
    I hope you'll watch Studio Ghibli's work, too.
    I recommend "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind."
    You also watched Berserk, didn't you? That is a good piece of work.
    My condolences to the beloved Kentaro Miura.

    I watched "Your Name" last week for the first time and this must be at least my 10th reaction video. It was fantastic! I still want more!
    The moment when Cassie suggested that Taki and Mitsuha would meet to watch the comet together and one could literally watch Jordan thinking "oh-oh, you won't like the twist!" :D
    It's the best "I love you" scene I've ever seen in a romantic movie. It comes so unexpected!

    I'ma be honest - I think this is the first time I've stumbled upon your channel, and I was like, "Oh, hey - I think I'm just gonna gonna skip to the end to see their reaction to the ending" which I know is horrible, but it's what I did. Then seeing Cassie react so much to that and then witness her discovery that this is her new favorite movie, makes me now NEED to watch the whole reaction just to see her get engrossed, etc. So... I'm gonna do that right now, haha.

    Here's a few things you probably missed:
    -first. You remember the beginning (and the end too) where they talk about having a dream as if something's missing as they get ready for work? Notice how after they wipe their tears they stop to look at their hands... It's the same hand they tried to write each other's name on.
    -In China and Japan there is an idea of an invisible red string connecting two destined lovers. Hence symbology of the string. There are other colors on the ribbon that represent other things too. The center white diagonal stripe symbolizing the comet, the blue around it for the lake(s), etc.
    -There's also this big thing about how the god their family worship is actually a fraction of the comet that's given their family powers to save the village. That's how they have the dance and the tradition to honor their god. The comet actually came at least twice before. To make the lake and the god's underworld shrine. Both times also created craters. So the god gave the family there power to save it's people.
    -And the BIG Whopper. Mitsuha wasn't going to write her name on Taki's hand. There are a few ways to write her name, the first, Kanji, can be read in multiple ways and is kinda complicated to write in the small time they had, so she wouldn't write it that way for a first meeting. The second way, Hiragana starts similarly with a straight left to right stroke, but we see her in the beginning writing in hiragana her name with a curved stroke, not a straight stroke. 15:32 in your clip. Instead the theory is she was planning on writing 'Suki da'. Which is written like this: すきだ ("sukida") And while you probably don't recognize it, it was actually in the movie. Specifically 36:07 in your clip. Yep, they were going to write the same thing. And yes, makoto Shinkai, the director admitted Mitsuha would have revealed her feelings than write her name down when asked in a Q&A

    The direction is simply marvellous. Every scene in this movie just went exactly as what I expected, especially the Ily scene. I did hope if Taki was gonna write something else except his name because it wouldn't make sense as they'll simply forget their names but not the memories. I didn't expect "I Love You" which was quite a brilliant message than just saying "do your best" or something else. This is truly a mesmerizing movie with such beautiful and well created arcs.
