I have probably watched the film half a dozen times and maybe twice that when watching reaction videos and I still cry every time when they find each other at the end.
Taki knew what he was doing by writing "I love you" instead of his name because when they forget each others names, all they remember is how they made each other feel. So by letting her know that he loves her has way more of an impact than a name. Edit: let me correct myself, Taki could’ve just said “I love you” just to say it BUT it doesn’t change the fact that it made their connection that much deeper because in this movie, they would forget each other but would gain motivation again because they remember how they felt about each other.
I don't think Taki knew, I think it was Misubi acting through them. Like the exchange of the hair ribbon, there wasn't much of a reason for it except that it was exactly what she needed to get up and confront her father. Just a name and some fading memories wouldn't.

I think he just want to tell her that he loves her, and he believes that her writing her name is enough for him to find her again. Same as he found the town and he met her. But she just didn't finish writing her name. Then the next scene is he really believes that he can remember her name and he didn't immediately wrote her name, instead he just keep saying it. But sadly he forgot. Same like a dream. It may have a deeper meaning, but i think for character's perspective, that's how he really thinks.
Lol it’s nothing like that. In japanese folklore the moon god erases names when written but doesn’t erase the message of love. If taki would have written his name it would had vanished just like how the memos in his phone disappeared. People outside of japan doesn’t get what the director is trying to say cause they don’t know the folklore but a Japanese will instantly know what it means.
I recommend Godzilla Minus One. This movie is not a monster movie for children. It is a heartwarming human story for adults. The lead actor is the voice actor of Taki in Your Name
The first time that I saw Your Name was in the cinema and it's the one film that I would love to 'forgot' just so that I could experience it for the very first time again. When Mitsuha opens her hand to see Taki's message of "I Love You" that almost broke me in the cinema and it still gets me with every re-watch! Whilst the God of Time can make Mitsuha and Taki forget each others' names. The God of the Moon, who oversees love, is more powerful. Which is why Taki's message of love to Mitsuha wasn't wiped away.

A common trait of his is to have some connections between his movies - the name of the restaurant is one, as is Mitsuha's teacher to that film. Weathering With You, also by Makoto Shinkai will have many connections to this film. That was a visual treat. Good that you also noticed the lore of the red string of fate. There was a Japanese TV show that had a segment on this movie not long after its release as they noticed its popularity among the older generation keeping it in the movie charts (despite the film being marketed to young adults/teens). They invited some older generation folks to a special screening and placed cameras in the movie theatre towards the audience, then interviewed the people afterwards. Needless to say, many of the old folks were in tears, and noted that the "red string of fate" (symbolised in this movie with Mitsuha's ribbon and the dream sequence at the shrine) which is prevalent in Eastern oriental cultures was something they experienced in their own lives - like an invisible bond - some people said they met their spouse/soul mate or found something they were looking for. if you watch 'Weathering with you', you will see Taki and Mitsuha and her sister. Mitsuha works in a jewellers and you see her sister in a high school uniform. Dont remember Takis job being mentioned but it was assumed he would be an architect. and if you keep your eyes open you will spot their wedding photo... :)

I see that the subtitles changed it a little. When Mitsuha in Taki's body says "I" to his friends, she uses three different forms of "I". First she says the polite form "watashi", which sounds very formal to friends. Then she uses the more casual "boku", and finally the very casual "ore" which is specifically male. I jumped a little when you mentioned "The Garden of Words", but then I realised that you said the name of the restaurant. I didn't realise that, so thank you, but "The Garden of Words" is in fact the title of a previous Makoto Shinkai film. It does in fact feature a character that appears briefly in this movie, too. While Mitsuha and Taki also briefly appear in the next movie, "Weathering With You".

51:21 Last year i made a tattoo of this exacly scene in the manga and my tattoo artist (who specialized on anime art) asked about it, but she didn't had watched, and i just said "i can't tell you, but this is awesome, watch the movie, you'll probably cry a lot, but it worth it". She posted a the finished tattoo and more ppl asked her to watch. 1 week latter she's on instagram stories completelly messed, her makeup all over the place, talking about how incredible is this movie and how much she cried. I see that the subtitles changed it a little. When Mitsuha in Taki's body says "I" to his friends, she uses three different forms of "I". First she says the polite form "watashi", which sounds very formal to friends. Then she uses the more casual "boku", and finally the very casual "ore" which is specifically male.
I jumped a little when you mentioned "The Garden of Words", but then I realised that you said the name of the restaurant. I didn't realise that, so thank you, but "The Garden of Words" is in fact the title of a previous Makoto Shinkai film. It does in fact feature a character that appears briefly in this movie, too. While Mitsuha and Taki also briefly appear in the next movie, "Weathering With You".
Just for context, the part with watashi etc was in the scene where Mitsuha meets Taki’s friends for the first time, on the school roof at 10:29

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas is another movie I always reccomend along with Your Name, and that is all I will say. Both are great!
I recommend vampire hunter d bloodlust 2000 and ninja scroll 1993 It’s a good movie and have beautiful Art anime You can watch both movie in dub it’s ok and if you want dark anime I recommend Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen I - Haou no Tamago 2012 There is three part of the movie. This anime really popular among anime fan And please watch this one in Sub It’s a lot better
