I really despise how butchered a lot of subtitles are for a lot of shows. Not just anime, just subtitles in general. Really can change how you view something. Your editor is a real MVP.
Which makes the "always watched subbed" crowd so funny. Ahh, so much emotion in their voiced as they say..... "me so mad, parent die and me want revenge" so powerful 😂😂😂
Why is it funny? Remember not everyone speaks English. So it's natural that many people prefer to watch the sub version. Sometimes there is no dub version in their native language.
@@vellozz8661 if you notice the way he phrased things he's literally making fun of people who don't know the language. He lacks understanding that not all languages share words, phrases, etc.

Nah, that "I love you" scene is a crime. That's the most important scene I'm looking for this reaction. I guess they failed to find the right translation.
I've already replied to someone else's recommendation earlier, but... seriously... Frieren. I promise you won't regret it. It'll hit you in the feels and blow you away with how beautiful it is. Don't walk, run to it. It's that good.
If you look at what mitsuha wrote, the first stroke isn't part of her name. It does match whatever Taki's first stroke is when he wrote on her hand. She was writing the same thing he was.
Just want to mention - to write mitsuha's name, it does start with the horizontal line for the 'mi' = み , if you see where taki tried to re-write her name, you can see he also started with the horizontal line on his other hand... so she could have just wanted to write her name down...we'll never know...
*_"Garden of Words"_* is sorta prequel to this, while *_"Weathering with You"_* is the sequel 🤫 (If ya spoil it for them, pangit) 🤣 38:03 The ring finger, yeah Taki's ex-crush did get married - to his friend who went with them looking for Mitsuha's town 🤭 46:24 It's a good thing Taki wrote "I love you" instead of his name on her hand, so his writing _did not get erased_ when everything else was supposed to be erased when they forget (remember what happened to their phone texts). That's because the Moon Goddess (notice the moon is featured in this movie) protects the feeling of love even when ya forget - kinda like how many people, when they wake up, forget what exactly they dreamed about, and yet they remember how they felt in the dream 🤔
If you liked this, you’ll probably like Violet Evergarden too. It’s a short series that does its own thing but takes some inspiration from Your Name. The art is exceptional, as is the music, and the human connection theme overlaps in a similar way that isn’t your typical romance. It’s another one of those anime that barely gets mentioned and after you watch it you’re left wondering why not.
Anime is so diverse, like movies, comics, books. You can find all kinds of experiences, if you want to continue with this type of more intimate, but different experience. I recommend "Mob Psycho 100", it's only 3 seasons, a beautiful story of the emotional growth. Anime movie I recommend "The First Slam Dunk", is like to watch a NBA final, but even more exciting! This movie is cool because the own manga author write and direct the movie.
I'm glad you are diving into anime! It is definitely a great medium. I recommend everything from Makoto Shinkai (the director of this film), Masaaki Yuasa, Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Hosoda. You'll fall in love. As you said, some anime is difficult to react to on UA-cam. Especially the Studio Ghibli films. As for anime series, I could go on forever so I'll spare you on that lmao, but there is an anime for any and everything you like. 100%. Great reaction Meesh & Dee! Looking forward to more!
I'm sorry, but anime is NOT a "medium" (unless you use the word in the Japanese sense, in which case it literally refers to all forms of animation). In the western meaning of the world, though, it's a culture and style (somewhat, that isn't entirely true either) specific category of animation, but it is not a medium, and it kind of annoys me when people try to frame it as such. Animation, I would say, is a medium. Different types of animation (stop motion, classic, 3D etc.) could also be referred to as different mediums, though often they are combined. But anime on its own is not a medium. Referring to it as such is a misuse of the word "medium".
I highly recommend "5 cm per Second" and "Garden of Words" both were made by the same creator who made Your Name Mikoto Shinkai. They're incredible films I'm sure you'd vibe with them.
I am so glad that this is the first anime movie you two watched. I love Makoto Shinkai movies so much and there isn't one I've watched that didn't make me cry. Every one of his movies has a fantastical element that just makes each one beautiful in such unique ways. I hope you'll watch more of them (either publicly or on your own) because they are all magical. I would highly suggest looking up interviews with him when he talks about why he made each of his movies. I am also happy that you noticed and enjoyed a lot of the big things that make any anime amazing: the animation quality, music (all the music), how good food looks, and the potential for great story telling. Radwimps does a lot (all?) the music for Makoto Shinkai's movies and for Your Name, "Sparkle" is the main one and it's in my daily playlist. The opening of the song alone will get me emotional each time. Lastly, major props to your editor for making sure you had the best possible experience with this reaction. I am glad they are so dedicated to you and your audience to go those extra lengths. As always, thanks for sharing this reaction and I cannot wait for more!
Love your reaction, it was one of my favorite, here's many of a new list you might want to watch. Movie 1. Silent voice 2. I want to eat your pancreas 3. Grave of firefly 4. Weathering with you (Taki n mitsuha were featured as cameo here) Series fantasy 1. Frieren (it a must) 2. The apothecary diaries (you'll meet a bad ass and kind a crazy fl here) 3. Spy x family Slice of live (romance-ish) 1. Lie in april 2. Horimiya(watch this after your lie in april is my advice, to bring your energy up) 3. Komi can't communicate 4. My dress up darling Action (watch at your own risk) 1. Demon slayer 2. Jujutsu kaisen 3. Attack on titan Sport 1. Haikyuu 2. Tsurune 3. Kuroko no basket Happy binge watching
Editor's getting extra cute with first few messages :') The little "shame on you" is super funny too xd Glad u watched the written with no translation so u get everything. Hope u enjoy ur anime journey if u start one ^^ edit : Gratz on the wedding ! All the love and happiness :p
Okudera Senpai is engaged with Tsukasa, a Taki’s friend. If you look closely, you can see Tsukasa also wears a ring. And which is confirmed by the director in the interview.
"Weathering With You" and "A Silent Voice"....are must see's. "Weathering With You" is made by the same director I believe and has a little cross over to this.
One of the saddest anime I’ve seen in recent years was Your Lie In April, it’s a definite tear jerker. Clannad is much sadder though, plenty of choices if you want to cry lol especially Clannad, I balled like a baby watching that. BUT, my all time favorite anime is Cowboy Bebop which, if you’re getting into anime, is a MUST watch, especially the dub, it’s one of the few where the dub is the best version. It’s a masterpiece and a classic, one of the greats.
Thank youu for watching this film! If you can follow it with "Weathering with you" then "Suzume no tojimari" from the same director. You'll never be DISSAPPOINTED
If you guys liked this type of anime and you want to watch a series instead of a movie, i think you guys would like "your lie in april". I just watched both that show and this movie this month, amd they both gave me the same type of feeling
There are so many great anime films I could recommend, but here are some highlights: A Silent Voice, Paprika, Millennium Actress, Grave of the Fireflies (essentially everything from Ghibli), Wolf Children, Akira and The Boy and the Beast. And for something completely different, watch The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea.
Thanks for the great reactions! I am Japanese. If you liked "Your Name", I recommend "5 Centimeters per Second". It is a film by the same director as "Your Name."
Nice choice. Next anime movie recommendation: A Silent Voice and Wolf Children or for great anime series: Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Deathnote, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Monster. Edited: Just finish watch end of reaction for feel good anime series, try: Kimi no Todoke, A Place Further Than The Universe, Toradora, Horimiya, Skip and Loafer, Sweetness and Lightning, Usagi Drop, Fruits Basket, Spy X Family.
you have to continue watching anime movies especially the studio ghibli movies! you'll easily fall into the anime rabbit hole cause there's so many amazing stories
Great reaction, great anime choice for your first, amazing save from your editor, is what Himmel the Hero would have done! I agree with other commentators, Silent Voice is a must, good suggestion with Violet Evergarden and Frieren for an anime series, which one to pick? Both! You should definitely pick both!
Loved your reaction to one of the most wondrous anime movies I've ever watched. A very excellent intro to Japanese anime of maximum quality. Hard to beat. Regarding 'Your Name', It has been my opinion that the the town's deity worked very hard to save its people via the connection between the two main characters. Suggestions for additional anime; Movie "Summer Wars" (2009) and a suggested series "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" (2023) have stuck with me. One additional Japanese live action movie that might be fun to react to is "Tampopo" (1985) - Categorized as Comedy/Western, but also a lot of great food themes.
There are a lot of anime out there (don't get me wrong) that are beautifully done. But this is top anime writing and production! Like for me, when I watched this, I thought to myself that this should be the standard of anime. Anything below this, I wouldn't wanna watch. It's the top 3 best anime OF ALL TIME for me. I watched it a million times! I watched it in original Japanese dubbed, English dubbed and Pinoy dubbed as well (I'm a Filipino).
You guys should watch Belle (2021) and Hotarubi no Mori e (2011) these movies are so good. Btw I really enjoy watching your reaction videos it feels so cozy and chill.
Fun fact which i read from someone else: The reason the boy wrote "i love you" instead of his name is because the "God's" that the girl prays to only protect confessions of love and promises! 🥺🥹
If you want more emotion and tear-jerking moments, and a longer series rather than a movie Violet Evergarden is a great choice. An emotional and beautiful storm.
Okay, just got to get this out the way quick: anime is not a genre, it's a medium! Okay, now that that's out the way: I'm so glad you two have discovered anime! There are so many wonderful, beautiful, funny, sad, brilliant anime films and series, I can't wait!! I suggest some Satoshi Kon maybe, if you want a different, darker more, psychological thriller vibes?
You should watch ‘Suzume’ next, it’s by the same filmmaker! Or ‘Weathering with You’ is another good one, also the same filmmaker. Besides his movies another one that’s really beautiful is ‘A silent Voice.’ Also, I feel like you should be able to do Ghibli, as I’ve seen a few reactors successfully watch them, but yeah, definitely research that I guess.
You have to watch "5 cm per second now". Same producer and these two movies are meant to be watched back to back. They are the different sides of the same coin.
Plenty of great and wholesome Anime out there that are perfect for you guys: The Garden of Words, Violet Evergarden (both the series and movie), A Silent Voice, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (the series), Grave of the Fireflies, Spy x Family (the series), Akira, Ghost in the Shell (original anime movie), Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service (the majority of Studio Ghibli movies are all great actually), and many more.
If you're going for anime, next movie should be A Silent Voice, and then for a series you should watch Frieren. Also, Taki and Mitsuha reappear in Weathering With You, if you want to see them do a brief cameo in another anime.
This video was enough for a subscribe! One of my favorite movies of all time, not just animated ones. That last scene kills me every time because I also feel melancholy as if I’m always looking for something or someone.
i can't believe you're watching this movie!! it's one of my faves of all time for sure. i've watched this one a thousand times already and i still cry every time i rewatch it. thank you for reacting to this movie! i enjoyed crying to this again with you!! huhuuhuhu
I love seeing people being introduced to Anime through this movie. It's one of my favorites and the one I recommend as well for beginners. And you will probably see this on other comments so I will add to it: your next watch should be A Silent Voice. I feel these 2 movies go well together for Anime beginners. Loved you reaction and shout out to your awesome Editor. I know from now on he will be checking the source before sending you to it haha. Thanks girls for the reaction!
All of Makoto Shinkai's are worth reacting to! I would recommend the two that followed Your Name: Weathering With You, and Suzume. Also, as far sub vs. dub. his movies are a rare exception where the dubs are actually good because they do them in house. Fantastic reaction!! Great work Editor!!!
if an anime is dubbed, i watch the dubbed version. i just dont want to be distracted reading the subtitles. i prefer to see 100% of whats going on. if an anime is only subbed, then i watch the subbed version. dont let anyone make you feel bad about choices that don't really matter
If a movie or show is good then a dub isn’t going to ruin it. The anti-dub crowd is so petty, as if subtitles can’t be bad. If someone doesn’t speak the original language, dub and sub are both compromises, so just pick one. I’ve seen people watch with English subs on an English show and they’re worse off for it. I try to watch everything in my first language without subtitles, and if it’s good then I’ll do it again with original language and subs. You’re absolutely right that people get stupid over a non-issue.
If you compare the first mark she makes on Taki's hand to when she originally wrote her name... she wasn't writing her name, she was writing I love you as well. Also, the same director makes another movie called Weathering With You that has cameos from Taki and Mitsuha.
I showed my wife and daughter this movie last week, and Crunchyroll doesn't have the "I Love You" part translated either. SO MAD. I also had my son walked into the room and spoiled the 1st episode of "Oshi no ko" for my wife seconds before a specific scene as well I just cant win, :/
I'm a new subscriber & just finished your Arcane reactions. Found this, and I'm really enjoying your reactions! Some of my anime recommendations: - If you want amazing horror-action, epic music, and the best mystery thriller of the decade (bad if you can't handle blood/gore): "Attack on Titan" (4 seasons over 10 years, ~100 eps, complete). - If you want the same tearful, bittersweet emotions as "Your Name" but with a lovable cast, great music, and LotR-style traditional fantasy: "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" (1 season, 28 eps, in progress). - If you want a mix of light jokes, emotional writing, horrifying tragedy, and a gripping fantasy/alt-history tale of family bonds: "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" (1 season, 64 eps, complete). - If you want to try another creative rom-com in the "slice of life" genre that's loads of fun, beautifully wholesome, & adorable: "My Dress-Up Darling" (1 season, 12 eps, in progress). - If you want TOP-tier animation, gorgeous visuals/music, and incredible action with a side of horror: "Demon Slayer" (4 seasons, 55 eps, in progress). - If you want THE "hauntingly beautiful" artwork & ear-gasm of music that tracks children exploring the dark mysteries of fantasy nature: "Made In Abyss" (2 seasons + 1 movie, ~25 eps, in progress).
Reflections on the Comet Named "Tiamat" in Your Name. The Connection Between Tiamat and Your Name. The recurring theme of “kataware” (片割れ, or “fragment”) and the intertwining of Taki and Mitsuha’s lives, culminating in their eventual union in Your Name., resonates deeply with the symbolism of Tiamat. I believe the choice of "Tiamat" as the comet’s name may have been a deliberate decision to align with these themes. **Similarities Between the Myth of Tiamat and Your Name. 1. Division and Reunion In the Tiamat myth, the goddess is split in two by Marduk. Her upper half forms the heavens, and her lower half becomes the earth, creating the cosmos. This division symbolizes the birth of a new order from chaos. In Your Name., Taki and Mitsuha start as separate, fragmented beings ("kataware")-physically and temporally divided. As the story progresses, they search for each other, ultimately reuniting and completing one another. This echoes the theme of "division leading to unity." 2. The Metaphor of "Fragments" Just as Tiamat's divided body becomes the fundamental elements of the universe, in Your Name., Taki and Mitsuha are each incomplete without the other. Their "fragmented" existence finds meaning and balance through their reunion. 3. The Relationship Between Nature and Humanity In the Tiamat myth, natural forces like the sea and chaos are personified and ultimately brought under control by the gods to create the structured cosmos. In Your Name., the natural force of the comet Tiamat becomes a central element of the narrative, shaping the fates of Taki and Mitsuha. The comet’s destructive power (akin to Tiamat’s rage) also brings about connection and renewal (mirroring Tiamat’s role in creation). 4. The Cycle of Creation and Destruction Tiamat's destruction gives rise to the creation of the universe, demonstrating the cyclical relationship between chaos and order. In Your Name., the comet Tiamat’s devastation sets the stage for Taki and Mitsuha’s fateful connection and the eventual hope for a new beginning. This interplay of destruction leading to creation aligns with the mythological philosophy of Tiamat. The Possible Intent Behind the Name The choice of "Tiamat" for the comet may have been deliberate, aligning with director Makoto Shinkai's recurring theme of "fragmented elements seeking unity." The comet, a celestial force, serves as a metaphor for the division (“kataware”) and eventual reunion of the protagonists. The Tiamat myth’s themes of chaos, division, and creation mirror the narrative structure of Your Name.: from separation and loss comes connection and hope. Both Tiamat and Your Name. deal with how the forces of nature, time, and space interact with human relationships, emphasizing the universal importance of connection. The Deeper Meaning of "Kataware" The repeated use of the term “kataware” reinforces the central message of seeking wholeness and connection, offering multiple layers of interpretation: The Nature of Human Relationships Each individual is incomplete, and relationships with others help us fill what we lack. Cosmic Connectivity Not only are Taki and Mitsuha connected, but so are the comet, time, and the land-they all seek to bridge their fragmentation. Hope and Renewal The journey to find one’s “fragment” (kataware) is also a journey toward building a new future, overcoming the destruction of the past. Conclusion The name “Tiamat” is more than just a reference to a comet; it symbolizes the overarching themes of Your Name. The story’s exploration of division and reunion, destruction and creation, and the harmony between nature and humanity closely aligns with the Tiamat myth. Given Makoto Shinkai’s meticulous storytelling, it seems likely that the choice of the name “Tiamat” was a calculated decision, tying the comet to the profound themes of fragmentation and unity that define the film.
Everyone's already mentioning A Silent Voice (my favourite movie, go watch it!). But I'd also recommend "I want to eat your pancreas". Don't let the name fool you, it's an emotional gut punch.
Oh, this was a beautiful reaction!!!😍 I went through the exact same thing, thinking it was like a cute romcom, when suddenly there was life or death, drama and too many emotions. I'm always bawling my eyes out at this movie😭😭 Here are some anime recommendations: You're gonna like Weathering With You, which is directed by the same man who directed Your Name. It is a similar story of old magic and romance in modern day, but with different themes and vibes. The composer or band who made this soundtrack is also back and it is such a lovely and dramatic movie!!!😍 After that, you could watch Suzume, which is this director's most recent movie. It feels very different to the first two, but also very similar?😅 Hard to explain. It's also like ancient magic and modern day romance, but it is less focused on the romance and more on the character development of the heroine. The music is amazing, too😍 Makoto Shinkai's movies are so good ever since Your Name. Everyone is already waiting for his next movie😍😍😍 You don't need to watch Five Centimetres per Second, which is a very old movie of his. It is fine, but it is nowhere near as fantastic as Your Name, Weathering with You and Suzume.😍 And if you're interested in series, I recommend Romantic Killer (a romance that is not a romance, so I hope Meesh will like it) on Netflix and Spy X Family☺️
Shame on you, Amazon. I love how your editor is the 3rd person on the couch, mad props to him/her/them(?). Funnily enough, I rewatched this the other day with my mom, who I've slowly been introducing anime to since we're both writers who enjoy bonding over good stories, whether it be movies, series, or books. Also, I think an amazing anime for you to warm up to would be "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" or "Oshi No Ko" The other more mainstream or hardcore anime can wait. You guys deserve a good welcoming, from one Pinoy to another.
I watched all 3 Movies from Makoto Shinkai the last two Days and they touched my Heart. (im a boy) I watched Suzume first and then want to see the other two Movies. In my Oppinion Suzume and Youre Name take place one on my favorit Anime Movies. (and yeah i also watched every ghibli movie so far) The Story was so heartwarming... And the songs in the Movie.... amazing! Greets from Germany

Absolutely check out Attack on Titan. It's probably going to go down as one of the greatest anime of all time.

38:03 The ring finger, yeah Taki's ex-crush did get married - to his friend who went with them looking for Mitsuha's town 🤭
46:24 It's a good thing Taki wrote "I love you" instead of his name on her hand, so his writing _did not get erased_ when everything else was supposed to be erased when they forget (remember what happened to their phone texts). That's because the Moon Goddess (notice the moon is featured in this movie) protects the feeling of love even when ya forget - kinda like how many people, when they wake up, forget what exactly they dreamed about, and yet they remember how they felt in the dream 🤔
She didn't get married to that friend lol. They obviously love far from each other now, while his friend lives close by still
As far as anime shows go, it seems like you girls would like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. 28 episodes. Elves, Magic, Heroes, Character Development.
Your editor's the MVP here 😄
I highly recommend "5 cm per Second" and "Garden of Words" both were made by the same creator who made Your Name Mikoto Shinkai.

Thank you for showing love!! And glad you like our editor’s notes ❤️😉 we can’t wait to jump into more shows with you! 🙏🏼
Okudera Senpai is engaged with Tsukasa, a Taki’s friend. If you look closely, you can see Tsukasa also wears a ring.
And which is confirmed by the director in the interview.
Editor is the hero. Salvaged the reaction to the hand scene.
I know I am late to the party but Weathering With You is the direct followup. But also A Silent Voice is great (it's a tougher watch though)
Yayyyy!! Now watch a silent voice 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I've watched tons of reactions to this movie and I gotta say this is my favorite one! ❤

I too just watched this movie for the first time about a month ago. I am blown away!
Next anime movie recommendation: A Silent Voice and Wolf Children
or for great anime series: Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Deathnote, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Monster.
Edited: Just finish watch end of reaction
for feel good anime series, try:
Kimi no Todoke, A Place Further Than The Universe, Toradora, Horimiya, Skip and Loafer,
Sweetness and Lightning, Usagi Drop, Fruits Basket, Spy X Family.
This made me subscribe. Can't wait for your anime journey! This was a great start.
you have to continue watching anime movies especially the studio ghibli movies! you'll easily fall into the anime rabbit hole cause there's so many amazing stories
it's still very emotional because, the movie was still very fresh in your memory.
Very good choice picking the masterpiece for the first time
shout out to the editor! great editing and notes
Nice save by the editor and the team, giving the proper respect to well beloved anime.
I recommend a silent voice or suzume :) but to me nothing tops your name, its my favorite movie ❤
Regarding the beautiful one of kind visual... this is a Makato Shinkai work for you... check his other projects for an equal visual experience
I suggest 'shelter' , only 5 min long but perfect and obviously 'spirited away'.
Fun fact which i read from someone else:
The reason the boy wrote "i love you" instead of his name is because the "God's" that the girl prays to only protect confessions of love and promises! 🥺🥹
you were so lucky that "Your Name" was your first. i wish i could watch it all over again for the first time
If you want more emotion and tear-jerking moments, and a longer series rather than a movie Violet Evergarden is a great choice.
Besides his movies another one that’s really beautiful is ‘A silent Voice.’
Also, I feel like you should be able to do Ghibli, as I’ve seen a few reactors successfully watch them, but yeah, definitely research that I guess.
I love Dee so much omg haaha I feel like you and I are the same whenever watching since I cry sooo easily lol
I feeeel you girl!! 🥹🥹🫶🏼
-D
You have to watch "5 cm per second now". Same producer and these two movies are meant to be watched back to back. They are the different sides of the same coin.
Finally someone knows what's up. Main reason I watched Your Name was because I knew Makoto Shinkai for 5cm per Second
Now here the is right recommendation! Finally someone with sense.
Please add Maquia When The Promised Flower Blooms to your list. It’s one of the films I can’t bring myself to watch again but it’s so, so gorgeous.
Out of the famous 'trio' of movies it's probably the one that I enjoy the least so I'm really excited for your reactions to the others: and
If you're going for anime, next movie should be A Silent Voice, and then for a series you should watch Frieren.
FYI, the voice actor of Taki, Ryunosuke Kamiki, performed Shikishima in "Goddila Minus One".
Idk if it is on the poll, but I think you two and the viewers, would like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
Ok after this u have to watch Weathering with you and Suzume. Same creator, same vibe same massage within the movie.
if an anime is dubbed, i watch the dubbed version. i just dont want to be distracted reading the subtitles. i prefer to see 100% of whats going on.
if an anime is only subbed, then i watch the subbed version.
dont let anyone make you feel bad about choices that don't really matter
약한
If you ever do series and want more well written stories, check out “Your Lie in April” and “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.”
Shinkai is reallllyyy good to make me cry...each time I (re) watch his movies.
Can't wait for his next project....
Great editing.
And you got the movie right away !
Very nice ! Thank you.
If you loved this, the next three anime reaction should be:
1. Your Lie in April
2. Weathering with you.
3. 5 centimetres per second
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think its just so profound, and beautiful. So incredible! Great reaction ya'll!
I showed my wife and daughter this movie last week, and Crunchyroll doesn't have the "I Love You" part translated either. SO MAD.
I also had my son walked into the room and spoiled the 1st episode of "Oshi no ko" for my wife seconds before a specific scene as well
I just cant win, :/
I'm a new subscriber & just finished your Arcane reactions. Found this, and I'm really enjoying your reactions!
Some of my anime recommendations:
- If you want amazing horror-action, epic music, and the best mystery thriller of the decade (bad if you can't handle blood/gore): "Attack on Titan" (4 seasons over 10 years, ~100 eps, complete).
Next: “A Silent Voice”
Reflections on the Comet Named "Tiamat" in Your Name.
The Connection Between Tiamat and Your Name.
The recurring theme of “kataware” (片割れ, or “fragment”) and the intertwining of Taki and Mitsuha’s lives, culminating in their eventual union in Your Name., resonates deeply with the symbolism of Tiamat. I believe the choice of "Tiamat" as the comet’s name may have been a deliberate decision to align with these themes.
**Similarities Between the Myth of Tiamat and Your Name.
1. Division and Reunion
In the Tiamat myth, the goddess is split in two by Marduk.
This echoes the theme of "division leading to unity."
2. The Metaphor of "Fragments"
Just as Tiamat's divided body becomes the fundamental elements of the universe, in Your Name., Taki and Mitsuha are each incomplete without the other. Their "fragmented" existence finds meaning and balance through their reunion.
3. The Relationship Between Nature and Humanity
In the Tiamat myth, natural forces like the sea and chaos are personified and ultimately brought under control by the gods to create the structured cosmos.
In Your Name., the natural force of the comet Tiamat becomes a central element of the narrative, shaping the fates of Taki and Mitsuha. The comet’s destructive power (akin to Tiamat’s rage) also brings about connection and renewal (mirroring Tiamat’s role in creation).
4. The Cycle of Creation and Destruction
Tiamat's destruction gives rise to the creation of the universe, demonstrating the cyclical relationship between chaos and order.
In Your Name., the comet Tiamat’s devastation sets the stage for Taki and Mitsuha’s fateful connection and the eventual hope for a new beginning. This interplay of destruction leading to creation aligns with the mythological philosophy of Tiamat.
The Possible Intent Behind the Name
The choice of "Tiamat" for the comet may have been deliberate, aligning with director Makoto Shinkai's recurring theme of "fragmented elements seeking unity."
The comet, a celestial force, serves as a metaphor for the division (“kataware”) and eventual reunion of the protagonists.
The Deeper Meaning of "Kataware"
The repeated use of the term “kataware” reinforces the central message of seeking wholeness and connection, offering multiple layers of interpretation:
The Nature of Human Relationships
Each individual is incomplete, and relationships with others help us fill what we lack.
Cosmic Connectivity
Not only are Taki and Mitsuha connected, but so are the comet, time, and the land-they all seek to bridge their fragmentation.
Hope and Renewal
The journey to find one’s “fragment” (kataware) is also a journey toward building a new future, overcoming the destruction of the past.
Conclusion
The name “Tiamat” is more than just a reference to a comet; it symbolizes the overarching themes of Your Name.
I recommend "Kimi no suizou wo tabetai" as well as all of the Makoto shinkai movies, they're all incredible
LOVED this reaction!❤ I think you would really enjoy reacting to Studio Ghibli movies 😊
Oh, this was a beautiful reaction!!!😍 I went through the exact same thing, thinking it was like a cute romcom, when suddenly there was life or death, drama and too many emotions. I'm always bawling my eyes out at this movie😭😭
Here are some anime recommendations:
You're gonna like Weathering With You, which is directed by the same man who directed Your Name. Everyone is already waiting for his next movie😍😍😍
You don't need to watch Five Centimetres per Second, which is a very old movie of his. It is fine, but it is nowhere near as fantastic as Your Name, Weathering with You and Suzume.😍
And if you're interested in series, I recommend Romantic Killer (a romance that is not a romance, so I hope Meesh will like it) on Netflix and Spy X Family☺️
They're married n u can see their cameo in weathering with you movie. It's from the same creator.
Also, I think an amazing anime for you to warm up to would be "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" or "Oshi No Ko"
The other more mainstream or hardcore anime can wait. You guys deserve a good welcoming, from one Pinoy to another.
Violet Evergarden
"A silent voice" and "I want to eat your pancreas" and "the weathering with you" next waiting for the reaction
The reason why " I love you " didnt got erased was because in Japanese culture there is a belief that Moon GoD protects everything related to love😊
This is my favorite movie, really liked your reaction girls, so sweetie!!❤❤😭😭
I watched all 3 Movies from Makoto Shinkai the last two Days and they touched my Heart. (im a boy) I watched Suzume first and then want to see the other two Movies. In my Oppinion Suzume and Youre Name take place one on my favorit Anime Movies. (and yeah i also watched every ghibli movie so far) The Story was so heartwarming...
And the songs in the Movie.... amazing!
Greets from Germany
Shinkai has almost a dozen movies…
@@TukaihaHithlec yeah but i think the most know which movies i mean…
A Silent Voice Next. Won't disappoint 😃
stfu with silent voice, how about commenting something regarding the actual reaction to this movie huh?
You should watch garden of words next. The teacher from Mitsuha school is from garden of words.
Really enjoyed reactions from you two. Especially it's your first anime movie. Thank you.
You guys should watch Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! It's an anime with many tender moments, but also incredible and awesome storytelling
