Over a number of years, Ryder Cup player Howard Clark was attached to Moor Allerton Golf Club as playing professional.

I had the sound off on that video - seems clear what I can do though from the clear demonstration- thanks

As a disabled golfer I appreciate the sense of this practical amendment. As I cannot feel my feet I am already at a disadvantage as I get no feedback about sand conditions when I take my stance. I need to ground my club as a walking stick and to get some level.of balance before address. Of course I cannot touch the sand close to the lie of the ball. Balance as best I can then go for it!

Just walk in from the front of the bunker

You can take a practice swing and hit the sand in another bunker, without undue delay, if you didn't know and not be penalized.

This is a surprisingly vague rule change for golf. Clearly, it allows golfers to gather some information about the condition of the sand in the bunker.

so pretty much nothing has changed except you can use you club as a walking stick. lol dumb rule change, i thought it was going to allow grounding behind the ball.

I don’t get it, how do I not touch the sand with the club, while also needing to touch the sand with the club to get underneath the ball to escape the bunker?

You can't ground while addressing the ball in a bunker, so you basically hover in the air before taking a back swing, and then you come down about 5 inches before the ball with an accelerating swing, making tje mother of all sand showers and et voila, you are 6 inches from the pin. Heavenly feeling.

@@AmerAhmad I wonder how many rules I break when I play. Just started two years ago casually 😀 I’d like to play it by the rules.

The rules always talk about making a stroke at the ball, not about hitting it. For example it's the number of strokes, not the hits, which count as your score. Therefore in a bunker once you start your stroke at the ball, that is a scoring shot and you are allowed to touch the sand with the club in the course of your stroke, and it doesn't matter whether it's before or after you hit the ball, or in fact whether you manage to hit the ball at all.
