    12:45 Spot should be making sure the door has properly latched behind it. This is necessary for both fire safety and physical security. Ideally, maintenance would ensure that every door would close and latch correctly on its own every time, but we all know that tasks like that tend to fall to the bottom of the priority list when humans just adapt their behaviour to work around the problem.

    As someone who has a use case for this technology and an affected team, I truly hope they are looking to develop Atlas for this as well. Most of my sensors are remote anyway, what I need is confirmation and, crucially, something that can interact with infrastructure designed for humans, especially carrying large heavy items that require two support points. That would be game changing for us, and save a lot of people many an unhappy drive on site in the middle of the night to sort out issues.

      Musk fans sharing their delusions in this comment thread are hilarious. If Musk were "running this show" BD would have overpromised everything and then come up with a half-assed robot that would be completely useless. DB are the industry leaders and however long they take to innovate with a viable product, that's how long it takes.

    • @elevul
      @elevul 11 місяців тому +2

      Doesn't that also mean that you'll be out of a job since if the work can be done remotely by piloting a robot they can just hire somebody in India to do it?

    • @tribalypredisposed
      @tribalypredisposed 11 місяців тому

      @@Michelino_M5 oh, for sure, that is why....checking my notes...the Tesla Model Y is currently the best selling car in the world, and why SpaceX has 80% of commercial launches worldwide, and why Musk is the wealthiest person in the world, because all of the products from his companies are lousy.
      Slow and steady is not going to win this race.Robots with LIDAR are not going to win this race. Is Musk good at estimating when new products will be ready? No. Do the products eventually come and are they better than what anyone else can offer? Yes. BD doesn't have an AI program, and they are manually coding while Tesla is almost all neural net programmed now, the computer is writing the software. And a lot of making robots useful is labelling objects in the real world, which Tesla is currently they believe doing at a world leading rate, and will be doing ten times faster by the end of the year and a hundred times faster by end of next year.
      My sympathy to BD, they have worked hard and well, but Tesla is now a behemoth with their pick of the top engineers, lots of money, a world number one supercomputer, and the Silicon Valley move fast playbook.

    Gauges have to be read with the eye or camera on an axis which is perpendicular to the dial face and passing through the needle pivot point, otherwise parallax leads to misreading of values. The camera height needs to be able to raise to the level of the gauge, which is generally installed at human height and mounted vertically. Alternatively, all the gauges could be tilted down, but then technicians would find them hard to read. Probably easier to make Spot’s camera much more height adjustable.

    Great job to all of them!
    Something it stood out is that the spot platform seems to be a bit too small when attachments are added maybe increase it's size by a few inches and get dedicated bays in the middle of the body for payload or get a work/play sized robots. Lastly when opening the door once it is holding the door open simply rotate the body trough the door. Robots are not humans they have freedom of move especially spot with full 3d environment built it in is not necessary to copy human movement it can do much better! :D
    Cheers

    The UP / RIGHT / etc arrows should move an on-screen cursor: I can't tell from the video @6:20 if there is one. It looks like the tablet spot link is laggy, which is normal for this kind of tech, so the spot should be given a pointer-goal to seek to, instead of the operator guessing with the RIGHT button, how much to press.

  • @BeginningGenesis
    @BeginningGenesis 11 місяців тому +3

    I'd love to see the events that led to these improvements. I've always had issues with how quiet it is especially in a working environment, akin to a cat. Also seeing one of my favorite youtubers having fun with their spot until they couldn't emergency stop it like it's new emergency button. Hopefully nothing caused a death in actual on foot locations. Something I would love to see come as an accessory for spot is an anchor kit, where it can drop a payload that anchors itself to the ground or wall and provide support to the robot as it struggles with a task. Pulling a door like you had in this video would be easier on the robot and make it quicker if it could take advantage of some kind of leverage besides it's own feet.

    • @1DrowsyBoi
