- New Graduate Nurse Anxiety
I’m constantly reminded just how scary it can be as a new graduate nurse every time I meet nursing students and those who have recently graduated. Whether it is good or bad; of which I presume, must be more good than bad… nursing school professors take a lot of time to inform us of the mistakes that many nurses before us have made. Some of these mistakes have life threatening consequences. Others are just downright funny. But all of them usually could have been avoided in one way or another.
There is a common phrase in nursing “It always comes down to the nurse's fault.” The nurse practitioner can order a medication, the doctor reviewing the case approves, a pharmacy technician prepares the medication, then the pharmacist checks the medication off. After that, the nurse gives the medication and in the unfortunate event that the patient has an allergic reaction an investigation will be made. Upon further investigation, it is found that the patient is allergic to a certain antibiotic that was in the same family class. This medication should have been question by the nurse prior to giving.
Yes, I know; I’m reading (or writing) the same thing you are. This is quite an unfair position we are placed in. Especially since we are many times understaffed and have not had a break in the last 5 hours lol.
However, knowing this, we still pursue the profession. Something draws us to it. A knowing that we have the opportunity to share in special moments and help someone, leaving completely fulfilled. The uncomfortable situation, somehow becomes totally worth it, all of it.
Yet, the anxiety of it all still remains. I was once an extremely anxious new nurse. I found ways to deal and cope with everything that was going on. And I share some of my best tips here for you in this short video.
I truly hope that the tips in this video help and that you enjoy your new job and new life as a nurse. Please subscribe to the channel, would mean a lot to me :)
See you next Monday!
xoxo

I start my first nursing job next month in the MICU and I'm so nervous because there's A LOT to know! Thanks for this video, definitely calmed me a bit!
+Alyssa Reyes Congrats Alyssa! I'm sure your going to do a great job 😉 stay positive 😘
I am loving Motivation Mondays Caroline!!!! It breaks up the constant flow of just studying the content videos!!!!! Thanks ! Looking forward to watching them every week now!!!!!
Thank you for the great advice! Love the 4 Ps (which I've never heard before). You're expression was priceless! This is my second career and have been working a busy med-surg floor for a year and a half and still feel like a new grad at times. Your videos are so helpful. Thanks!
I really needed to see this video. I will be going into preceptorship next semester and the tip that you gave about helping all the nurses while you're on preceptorship is really good and I'm definitely going to do that. I have horrible anxiety in clinicals so this video really helped me to understand that better so I really appreciate you posting these Monday huddles and I'm looking forward to next Monday
+smtha620 So glad to hear that!! Thank you for this comment 😘❤ See you next Monday!!
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your experience. I’ve been offering to help all of the nurses, and it’s been great for team morale 💗
Really enjoyed this video. I'm not a new nurse but it's always helpful to get ideas from other nurses. Would love to see how you use sticky notes as reminders. My report sheets usually end up a jumbled mess of different colored ink and sticky notes sound like a good way to avoid this. Thanks again.
Caroline, I really in enjoyed this video. I graduated in May 2017 and took my boards twice and passed on the second go round November 14,2017. It was a long and stressful summer for me but I finally got the courage to take the test again and what a relief it was for me. Now I am job searching and had an interview December 11,2017 and it went really well and I am excited and nervous at the same time but watching this video about New Nurse Anxiety is giving me the confidence I need and I should be starting in about a week. So thanks a lot and keep doing what you are doing because people like me need the motivation!Angela
Thank you for this!
+Albert Anytime Albert 😊
Awesome video... Much appreciated. Much needed.
+Timothy Negron Thank you Timothy 😊
really great tips. for some reason i do feel anxious and nervous sometimes at clinical i think it has to do with how well i did on an exam in class and not feeling competent. your head to toe assessment was on spot, thats how my med surg 3 professor guided us on doing them! sticky notes are in style :)
this is a great video! i start my first nursing job in about a week. Im both excited and nervous!
I will be starting my LPN program this August. I am so glad I found this channel. New Nurse Anxiety topic is a bit premature for me, but will be an issue soon enough. I will be getting your book soon. I think these videos will be a motivator after especially stressful days of nursing school. Thank you. :) -- Thomas, Nursing Student.
This is me. I commented initially on the wrong account. Take care :)
you're awesome!!! thanks for the vid!!!
Love the topics you cover in your videos
On another note:
Just a word of encouragement:
Remember that Jesus loves you and He's coming soon.
If you have not made a decision to follow Him, don't wait because tomorrow is
promised to no one.
Satan wants us to believe we have all the time in the world, when we actually don't.
Even he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12)
Lastly, the National Sunday Law is about to be enforced upon us. It involves the Mark of the Beast. The Beast is a religious & political system, which includes the Pope and his followers. Their sign of authority or seal is Sunday worship because they claim to have authority over the Bible and they admit that Sunday worship is their doing. (Revelation 13:6). They will enforce worship on all. (See Revelation 13). IT is their plan to force all to worship on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) and have that as the ONLY DAY of worship. They want everyone to forsake God's law which includes keeping the Sabbath, and accept man's tradition.
When it is enforced, and people accept Sunday worship INSTEAD of accepting the Seventh Day Sabbath (Saturday) as the Lord's Day and only true day of worship, they will get the mark of the Beast.
The system promotes false worship.
So, it's our duty to keep God's commandments, including the 4th which talks about the Sabbath because in the end, we have to chose 1 side.
So, lastly, I'm inviting you to the Seventh Day Adventist church that is NEAREST to you and make it your #1 priority be ready by God's grace to face the time that is just before us.
Thank you for this video. I start my new job in a week and I'm trying to calm my anxiety.
thank you! appreciate it
Your welcome Kim!
Thank you for letting me know!

Hey Caroline, thank you for all the great videos.. they are so helpful & uplifting !! I just started my first RN position on a medical/surgical floor and it is definitely not where my passion is but I know it is great experience. Not sure how I will survive this! Any advice would be so greatly appreciated xx
So helpful! I started orientation this week! :)
Thank u so much
That's an excellent point. You only learn the basics at the University and you learn the whole gamut when you get into your position because all organizations are different.
I guess you can say the worst thing you can do is thinking you know everything when you first join. We had somebody like that at my place. He's not working with us anymore.
First thing you must do also is to try to get acclimated to the culture.
So helpful. Nice dress. Thx
+Liao Zhixuan Thanks so much Liao 😁
Preparing for the NCLEX in three weeks. I have a question that is a little off topic.... How do we resolve patient to nurse ratios? This has been a very contentious issue since the nursing profession began.
