Suzuki Ignis 2017 (ENG) - Test Drive and Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- 2017 Suzuki Ignis is slightly larger than Fiat Panda and Volkswagen up!, but it’s a matter of centimetres. First generation Ignis was in production in early 21st century. Back then it was something like a small crossover. Suzuki was too early with the product, because today Ignis would have been a hit, like Vitara or SX4. But since Suzuki now has a B and C crossover in its range, what does it need the most? Of course, an A-crossover. If there is such a thing. If you want to compare Suzuki Ignis to something, it would probably be a Fiat Panda 4x4 or Panda Cross. There’s a lot of accessories to make this miniature Jeep Renegade look more off-roady. And to match the off-road looks, Ignis can be ordered with AllGrip AWD system.

I have recently bought one. I am really impressed with it and love the way it drives and looks
I rented this car when I was on holiday and surprisingly it’s actually a good car to drive and it’s big inside.
I like it. It's an honest little car that's different and inventive.
A good honest review. I know I bought one. Four grip copes with farm tracks and wet fields fine. Hybrid system doesn't seem to do much most of the time except on country roads with rolling hills where the energy saved on the downhills helps haul you up the uphills. Fuel consumption a steady 60 mpg. On road it's definitely not quick but far better than the Jimny it has replaced. Steering is slow. Anti collision is a pain but l'm learning to ignore it and it may save me from a bump one day. I actually quite like the looks. Road tax was low in the U.K. before the recent hike. I fortunately got in just before. All in all a sensible choice and may we have a long relationship. A City car for those living out in the sticks.
Hello from Indonesia.
I have it for 13 months now.
It's a good car

I own GLX AllGrip model. Great car. For the persons in doubt: just try it and you'll love it.. Tnx for the review.
Roomy ,sturdy, with a pretty good direction and economical .Minus : The non flat area when the back seats fold down .Yes , the front and sides look sporty ,the rear is awkward ! A good review !
Yeah the rear is ugly, even uglier than the brutwurst whell bmw i3 at least that is chunkyer. This is even thicnner upwards. Weird, and unfortunately the interior is also too narrow. Excet perfect transportable, low fuel economy city car. that can go little bit off road
Great review Marek, especially love the drone footage from your 'secret off road test facility'. Like it or loathe it, you've got to had it to Suzuki for being innovative. Personally I like the fact that it dares to be different. Love to see you driving this on your next road trip, whenever that may be.
Must talk to Suzuki. I'd love to tour Japan :)
Marek, thank you! You're the only person who actually bothered to go and see how the AllGrip system would do off road.
Funny looking little car, interesting specs and prices, thanks for your review.
I have Baleno Hatchback and ignis for my wife. We loved it
Would the ingis hit 100km for 30 min comfortably?
Kerb weight only 800kg - amazing!
the ALLGRIP is ~950kg
Your review was very critical and good. Definitely this is not a family car. It can be an outing car for nearby places. Definitely an SUV stance car but I feel the interior cabin appears to be very small.
Thanks to you for bringing up the critical review for Dual Camera brake system. Owing to the city car that system can be irritating for the person in a hurry.
Great candid review! This was really helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Big in Japan....Suzuki ignis.... Love it.....
Hi Marek, congrats for another nice real review. Would you recommend this as a small suv-ish family city car?? What else would you recommend??
Panda 4x4?
In Serbia (and as I understand - in most European countries, if not all) only the cheapest version is 5 seater!?! If anyone wants to combine Allgrip 4x4 system with 5 seats - it's not possible?! This is nothing short of IDIOTIC solution! And one tiny detail on top of it: only the top range version has got a mirror on the passenger side sun visor - I had it even in my ancient Yugo 45 from 1989, and of course in my Hyundai Atos Prime from 2001 (by the way, imported from Poland! )! And it is used quite, when my darling puts make up in the morning on our way to the school where we work. Unbelievable that such a cheap thing is absent from lower packages models! By the way, I think that I've seen in a video on UA-cam that for South African market Allgrip model DOES have three safety belts on the back seat, but the middle one is not a three-point version. :)
for some reason I'm subbed to him
Great review Marek! Can you do the new Ford Ka+??
Not if I can help it :)
Considering that the automatic transmission has Suzuki's own AGS system, why doesn't anyone ever review it? Anybody shed any light on this system?
Press office's decision I guess.
Love it. Quirky does the job. If you want to reach 100 mph in 6 seconds, then but a bloody Ferrari..
Combination of satire and eulogy in your review. Pretty functional small car though. Like👍
Pretty much!
After watching many Marek reviews it looks like this car and VW Up are the best options for small city cars?
Took me a while but now I know what the background-music reminds me of ... it's pretty similar to the music played in the mock porn-movie they watch at the end of "An American Werewolf in London" ... :D
Design wise, its unique and quite head-turning. Too bad Suzuki didn't plonk 1.0 turbo (what is it boosterjets?). It should have one!
Boosterjet is their turbo engine. I don't think it needs more power. In this type of car reliability is what counts, and AFAIR Suzuki is relatively new to turbo engines.
new?
time to do some homework 😉
Is there any car like this, that is around the weight of this but a little bit bigger and maybe more powerful?
If it's bigger, it's going to be heavier. More power usually (not always, but usually) implies a bigger engine, hence more weight. And you need stronger components, so it's going to be even heavier. Short answer - no. But you can tune this.
@@MarekDrives Thanks I love very much this Ignis. But it laks power, and if it would be the length of the swift it would be perfect. I want to find a car under 1 tonne, but with the size of an i3, a little bit capable off road, but big in headroom, and wilder interior than the ignis, if the i3 would be an suv with petrol engine, so less weight it would be perfect. I haven't find a car like this. Closest is Hyundai Bayon or Kia Stonic, but still too heavy. Can you recommend anything? With at least a 100hp? And under 1 tonne?
Back in they day there was an AWD Swift in the last generation. Apparently there is one in this generation as well, but probably not in Europe.
@@MarekDrives YEAH. Thankx for the reccomandation. But the swift has less headroom, and that is important for me. I don't need awd because it's weight i need ground clearance, big headroom, wider body, little bit bigger legroom, but don't need much more, and all being as light as possible. I would transport it in an l5 ford transit single cab chassis cab, coverted into a motorhome. So weight is the most imortant. Suzuki is great because it's operates with light cheap materials, at least with the swift and the ignis, the Vitara is too heavy...
I was about to recommend Suzuki X-90, but that also weighs over a tonne. Headroom is not an issue though ;)
Any plans to review the 2022 model??
There was a facelift a few years ago:
ua-cam.com/video/IvfIDtSYdsM/v-deo.html
IMO they made it worse, because of the engines, but emissions, etc. No running from it.
Oh my word that back looks like some Peter Rabbit snaggletooth got its face kicked in by a work boot... front's cutesie but OMG that rear - WTF is that lol
Great review
Ignis is sooo expensive in Poland! :O It's around 9000 up to 13000 in my country which is not in EU.
My next car
I like it.
What about the consuption in the hybrid version?
Do you know anything about the mild hybrid? I heard that there's 2kind of engines, one regular petrol and one that's kind of a hybrid.
Yes, I discussed it in my Baleno review. It's more expensive, but doesn't really achieve anything.
ua-cam.com/video/8a1KMtRV0AI/v-deo.html
Marek Drives yeah that's what I have heard also, maybe not when you have to pay for it as a new car, but when the car is 2years old maybe the hybrid make sense on the used market, I can imagine that the price of used Ignis with and without hybrid will be about the same. Can you get the hybrid with awd?
+Björn Hast not sure. In Poland SVHS comes only on top trim FWD, which costs as much, as a top spec non-hybrid AllGrip. Since it's got the same power, doesn't improve CO2 emissions by much, and it is only a mild hybrid, nobody (including Suzuki representatives) has a clue why bother :-)
Marek Drives do you think it's possible to get dodge congestion charges which some big cities have nowadays with the mild hybrid? Probably not, I guess it only looks good on paper ☺️
Watch the Baleno review I linked above. I discussed it there.
Nice.i have it.
Looks like it is sponsored by Adidas! 😂
Marek do tell
Which cars fell apart on that road?
Range Rover?????
Greg
UK
Figure of speech.
In India you get only 2 airbags and no DCBS
Great review. The fact that Dual Camera Brake Support (DCBS) can't be permanently switched off (it comes back on again when ignition is switched off then on) is a deal-breaker for me. I'm not going to press and hold the DCBS button every time I get in the car. What a shame. Thanks for the review Marek.
Overall a good car killed by the rear end`s design.Bigger and lower boot design would be much better.
The rear looks better in real life, but I generally agree.
Hello Marek, congrats for your reviews. Are you planning on reviewing Dacia Stepway II 0.9 tce?
rear is ok.C pillar looks awful
I suppose I can outdrive this reviewer with my Ignis and him driving a Lamborghini. 0-60 mph is easily done in under 12s and NOT a week as claimed. Horses for courses! This is an economical, reliable, daily driven city car. I missed the hard plastic scratch test. We all know by now that leather and walnut interiors are common these days in budget, micro cars and hard plastic simply looks way too 80s. Forget that car and buy a VW UP. The 200 Euro Smartphone holder may prevent you from any distractions otherwise experienced.
i like it!
Can you review Suzuki Jimny?
It's not out yet, is it?
very good review, too bad no more Suzuki in Canada
What did Suzuki sell in Canada? Just Vitara and Kizashi or something else too?
Suzuki in Canada sold Swift, Vitara, Grand Vitara (with the V6 engine), Grand Vitara XL-7 (longer version of the Grand Vitara), SX4 and Kizashi;
The new Swift is a really nice looking small sporty car with available AWD, again, too bad no Suzuki in Canada/USA
Has a rider I have to tank for these safety systems 'cause cagers are always on the cellphone .
Surprisingly the Ignis is made in Japan and not India or Hungary like most European homologated Suzuki cars.
Too bad they chose this weak 1.2L engine rather the 1.0 Turbo engine that Suzuki has in other models. I hope they will offer it with this engine in the near future.
AFAIK this one is made in 4 locations.
@@MarekDrives the FWD ones that are made for Europe come from Japan as far as I know.
I guarantee the 1.2 naturally aspirated with the chain distribution will outlast any 1.0 with a turbo in the universe.
Swift or ignis??
Depends.
This better tho cos got solid rear axle
Clever car, but looks and sounds tinny.
suzuki ignis or renault twingo?
I would not buy a Twingo, because I don't like it. But you have to ask yourself, why are you considering these two cars, and for what purpose?
Marek Drives thanks for answer,I like small cars and I like cars that are a little different, twingo is a rear engine rear drive,Ignis is a mini 4x4 SUV, I know that maybe i10 or UP might be the best in that size, but when I look at them I see some boring cars. so I don't know I was thinking one of these 2, similar price tag, spacious for their size and with unique styling
Twingo's RWD doesn't really matter, because you can't turn off traction control. Moreover there's extra heat in the boot, so I wouldn't want to store my groceries there. On the other hand I had a blast in the Ignis. It's a really fun little car, and it can do some light offroading as well.
Marek Drives Ignis it's your favourite of the two then,I'm going test drive them both, the fact that you cannot get automatic gearbox with AWD with Ignis is a little drawback, but not a deal-breaker, thanks for your answer
With these small engines an automatic is either useless or expensive (or both). Good luck!
So ugly I actually think it’s cute
It’s like star wars themed inside 😅 I’m definitely getting this xx
To cute and ugly at the same time no to like..All newer Suzuki cars ride very solid on the pot holes and bad local roads. Not the most silent but as you said.. I broke my Megane twice on same the roads that my Cross eats for dinner like its nothing..
Is this car better than the panda4x4
Similar.
dookieday1
More reliable with less troubles!
Marek, you're much cuter than the Ignis. You are not as funny as the Ignis. Sorry... nice try ;) Great review!
18000 Euro? I would buy a Duster!
The driving safety system will be good for russian drivers hahahahaha
I would say I like and dislike it. the first ever car I equally like and dislike
Looks like baked with too much yeast, hihi. When I really buy cars, I go for some test drives and look at the small things that you have to deal with in daily life, and when then a car beeps at any occasion and annoyes me, I say NO THANKS. I hate already that more or less all modern cars beep when I haven't fastened my seat belt, e.g. when I drive just on parking places or privat areas...
Hi iam from india
This car is :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D , :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
Always enjoy your reviews ! Suzuki really pulled a number on this one and made it look ugly from all angles, which in itself is quite an accomplishment, it's so ugly you keep looking at it. What is the target audience for this thing i wonder, young women are not going to buy it but take Fiat 500 instead and young guys certainly won't. And the looks certainly won't appeal to the 60+ crowd either.
It is a niche car for sure. I suspect it will sell well in mountainous, rural regions.
I actually think it looks good and even better in person. I would totally get one if I needed a city car and I am a young male.
Your comment gave me such a good laugh. Thanks! Indeed I keep looking at it... Trying to convince myself I don't mind the back of it... And yes , I love the car and would like to buy it.
You are so wrong there my friend. I am over 66 and love the lots of the ignis, but then again I just love quirky.loking cars and hate the boring looks of sports cars. I also have seen various age groups of people driving the ignis, and most are quite happy with one or two "bottle" holders aswell..how many cup/bottle holders do you need in a car ffs?
