- The trip started on the side of Mt Mackenzie in Revelstoke. We climbed to 3100m in 7m/s thermals and from there made our glide to Mt Cartier, 11km south down the valley. We flew underneath the new Air Design Soar, which has proven to be a very capable ship. Overloaded by about 15kg of dog weight, the wing performed beautifully. A trust worthy sail boat for the high seas.
Once on Cartiers southern ridge we set up camp and then explored further up towards the summit. It was our first time on the mountain and what a pleasure to do so together. On the summit we looked off into Rogers Pass, the Selkirk Range - A place that holds many memories for me - and took in all the incredible view. The sun dipped away as we made our way back to camp where we rose early at 3:30 the next morning for our mountain exit, escaping shortly before the days rain came.

Hi Simon, as a beginner paraglider, but for a long time dog-daft and a mountain lover, your little vids are inspirational. Love the music, love the concept, love the scenery and Aeris is so adorable! Like me and my dog, you two are clearly inseparable.
I don't know why I cried watching this one. Probably the freedom that flying gives to oneself. Something I'm still searching for. Also Aeris looks fantastic too!

Gorgeous! My Jack Russell, Gaucho, now sadly passed, used to love flying with me. After landing he would sit up & beg, howl & prod my harness with his front feet - literally demanding more!
Sounds like Aeris and Gaucho woulda been best buds. Sorry to hear of his passing.
We'll give a salute to the brave little guy on our next flight.

@@SimonHergott Thanks Simon! My dog is still with us but he is no longer able to do much more than neighborhood walks, it's so hard leaving him at home when I hike, his heart is still willing and he knows exactly what I am doing when I am gearing up.
I enjoy watching your pooch hiking and flying with you, she sure looks comfortable in the air!

For my pod harness setup she's attached via locking quickdraws to my bridal hang points of the harness, right on top of my shoulders. And you're correct, she rocks the Ruffwear Doubleback.

Watching your videos is a great pleasure every time! Especially watching Aeris slowly growing up. Beautiful shots! I am a paraglider too and accompanied by a 7 year old cattle dog lady (red heeler). I would like to slowly get her used to flying and I am looking for a harness for her. The stuff which I found in Germany doesn't really match my Ideas of a good harness.
Can you tell me which harness you did choose for Aeris?

The harness is the Ruffwear Double Back. Very secure and doesn't compress your dogs diaphragm when hanging.
You'll have to let me know how the flying goes with your Heeler
@@SimonHergott Thank you a lot. Wasn't sure if it is the doubleback which you use. Meanwhile I found a ruffwear distributor who is selling the doubleback in my country.
It takes definitely some time for her first "real flight" but I let you know how it gets along. Take care about Aeris!
This is so great! I just got a mini Aussie and working on flying with him, he seems quite keen! Wondering if you have any tips for harnesses, and training.
That's super rad! You'll have the greatest time flying with him.
You'll want the climbing rated Ruffwear Doubleback or any other haul certified rig. Attach him to your packs shoulder straps and a second to the packs haul loop for redundancy. Or if you're flying a traditional harness, and not a string harness, then attach him via your bridal hang points on the shoulders. I'd avoid hanging him on your harness biners because if he ever topples off your lap you'll suddenly have erratic doggy forces pulling on your risers that you may not want. There are precarious moments, like just after launching, where you may not have the reaction time to sort it out, so always mount your pup to your shoulder straps or bridal hang points. You may want to set up a hanging station at home and sort the logistics out before hand. That's what I did anyway.
