  • This book comes from Musicians Institute's sight reading class that I attended in 86-87. This video aims to give a structured method for improving your guitar rhythm playing & rhythm reading. Even if you don't check out the book the tips and approach can be applied to your practice. It starts simple enough for a beginner but also gives variations more aimed at intermediate and advanced players. Make sure you use a metronome to keep your rhythms consistent and to keep track of your progress.

The sight reading class at G.I.T. that this comes from was one of the required core classes. While the instructor sometimes gave advice it was mostly just a way to have a structured hour of sight reading practice. Particularly in phase 3 & 4 when you were doing mostly electives you didn't have to attend a certain one (or attend at all if you could pass the tests) they had a few running throughout the day and you could just go sit in whichever one worked best for your schedule or sit in more than one if you wanted. The teacher mostly just put pages from the books up on a overhead projector and the class played through it (using unplugged electrics) the later books had both notes and rhythms including more difficult pieces and some 2-4 parts played at the same time so the person sitting next to you would be playing a different part forcing you to ignore what they were doing and focus on what you were reading. thanks for watching please like & subscribe

Just spend more time with improv and you'll probably find soon enough the two of you are best friends. Personally I love improv 🙂
