If I'm needing mechanical parts, I typically look for vehicles that have been wrecked and driven to the scene of the accident. That way you know for a fact that the engine and such were running well enough to be driving around. Are you pulling these from a LKQ? Mine has it listed as just Engine - Fuel Injected for around 350 including the core charge, which I would be fine with. Well I called (unfortunately, this number is apparently a headquarters number and not the local yard) today and was told that doesn't include the accessories. So Im going to swing by and actually ask my local yard what "engine-fuel injection" actually includes.

Looks exactly like the 5.3 i have in my suburban...same serp belt routing too...are you sure its a 6.0? 6.0's ive seen have diff intake cover that says "MAX" n diff serp belt routing.....awesome vid tho reguardless
That's because all truck accessories route the same and use the same belt, other than I have hydroboost it's the same accessories. I believe this one also has the higher output alternator. Anywho, the 6.0 cast into the front and rear of the block and the LQ4 govebox code all add up. Also, the "Maxx" trucks are half ton only.
Sooo, I can get a complete 6.0 V8 with all the computer stuff, harness, headers, everything for $220 at the yard?! You now have me wondering what it would cost to 6.0/4L80 swap an 03 4x4 1500 ext cab... and you have me wondering what this LS droid thing is. Hmmm... depending on the price to swap, I’ll do it. I wonder what it would cost to Duramax swap it.
Ok. I’m going to watch your playlists for LS swap stuff. Really want to learn. I haven’t even bought the (my first)truck yet. Just a couple hundred off. I’m working hard. I’ve been researching how to make it better for towing 25ft enclosed trailers with racecars in them, beat my friends who want to race me in their V8 mustangs with awful ricer exhaust and lambo doors, tow my brothers around with sleds tied to the trailer hitch when it snows, you get the point. I don’t know if I should upgrade the stock 5.3 with junkyard parts or swap it. 6.0? 6.2? 7.something? 8.1? I don’t know. Online forums haven’t really helped too much at all. You seem like a very knowledgeable guy who’s been there, done that with this stuff. I work at a lawnmower repair shop, and my boss races roadcourse. I get to work in his racecars when I’m not working on mowers. I can do everything to this truck myself, over at the shop. My boss is all fired up about the truck, so he definitely wants to help me. I’m looking forward to stuffing every last bit of info from your videos into my brain as possible. Thanks.
Yes. 157k, not a Z71, some rust. The only aftermarket part it has is a cold air intake. The transmission is the original. Never been replaced. Trans fluid looked...meh.
My nephews truck is exactly that, it's on the channel as the one we replaced the rockers on and Liner Extreemed the bottom of. For light towing, he does a camper a few times a year, has a couple Jetskis, normal house stuff. He's very happy with his 5.3 and tuned ECM. His transmission failed pretty quick, a 600 Facebook Marketplace rebuild, and he was back on the road with no issues since.

😍😍😍😍what we putting that LS in? I'm putting a 6.0 in my 86 Monte Carlo SS
He said a '71 oldsmobile 98
I'm trying to get up to speed as I get ready to do an LS swap. When you say copper spray the gaskets are you saying you reuse a head gasket and you just use the copper spray?
Correct
7mm for ecm and fuse box
Put a link for the wiring harness
What do you mean by clean out the bolts do you re-tap them
No, I just blow them out
You must have been asked before, but, would you source a 6.0 complete with everything ready to drop into a Miata or RX8 or something, would you source it, pack it and send it to Ireland for cost plus expenses plus whatever you want?
I'm asked that all the time, and the answer is I have a day job and hobbies that take up way to much of my time to do that in any type of economical fashion for anyone else.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer thanx for the reply, could you put me in touch with anyone you know that could help me? There are so many scams, I love your videos BTW, great attitude 👍🏻
@@skylineandscooby There's a gentleman (actually he's kind of a jerk, but solid guy :D), in my Facebook group by the name of Jason Brown.
He pulls these all day in junkyards and sells them locally as well as ships them.
I'm sure if you're willing to help him witht he customs work and whatnot, he'd be willing to ship you an engine.
Also, the Izuzu NPR trucks have 6.0's in them, if you have some local place all the smashed lorries go to.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer ill see if I can get hold of your jerk pal! In Ireland, nothing has V8 except serious luxury cars, I bought a Porsche Cayenne turbo from the UK, 4.8 twin turbo as a family car, but I'd love a V8 project,
I NEED YOUR HELP.....
I PICKED UP A 84 C4 CORVETTE...TAKING THE CROSSFIRE OUT AND WANT TO PUT A LS - ENGINE IN THE VETTE.
FIRST OFF, HOW BIG CAN I GO...IM LOOKING TOO KILL "HELLCATS"
HOW MUCH ? GENERAL RANGE ,IF POSSIBLE.....
ANY HELP IS USEFUL...IM BUILDING A PRO TOURING CORVETTE....
Idk what you mean exactly here.... all the LS engines are the same external size, you can go as big as your budget
okay, you answer my question....i was concern about the external size....I am trying to build a pro touring type of corvette. i guess i will need the transmission to go with the engine? im new to this so if you were building this project with moderate to low budget...what would you do?
If i can locate cheap engine and transmission I guess and have it recondition with cam (what size cam?) maybe bored out also?
Where is this junkyard located
I wonder if our guy learned to use those overall pockets for his tools
Love your channel bro. Thinking of doing an ls. Swap on my c10. But I'm stuck on how to decide on too many options
My project is a 74 c10 stepside. Any ideas. 6.0, 5.3 or ls1. Thanks in advance. All ideas help.
Whatever you can find complete and cheap, it's all a huge upgrade
Luis from pa middle?
Hey brother how do I go about finding these pick and pull junkyards asking for a friend lol
Whenever I travel outside Michigan, I just google maps search, junkyard, self serve, etc
@@TheDrivewayEngineer dam I feel like an idiot now!! I’m watching your playlist from 4 yrs back appreciate you putting all this information out for people like me I know I’ve learned some much already and I’m definitely subscribing.
Locally or when traveling? Search pick and pull, u pull, you pull, lkq. Im in ohio so rust free southern parts are nice. Hang out and drink coffee in local gas stations in the morning in rural areas. Have a couple beers at a local hole in the wall type bar in the evening.
Is there 8.1 liter ls in that junk yard?
Good morning am Dwight do you have a 6.2 for sale
I do not sell engines
Buy Here Pay Here switch😂😂😂😂😂😂
My man👍.
Hey! You're back! Good to see you!
Thank you my man. I just moved into my new shop.
I don't ever ask, I tell.
What do you have here? Engine.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer Im looking at pulling a LQ4 for a budget boost setup. Seems like my yard puts them in fairly regular just by checking online inventory, but Im sure I'll have to jump on it the day of.
Also appreciate the reply and the videos, you make it a lot easier than what others make it out to be.
hey JR I'm really interested in doing a 6.0 lq4/lq9 swap into my gen 4 tahoe 2010 but I can't find any info about it online. I was just wondering if this was possible. any help or input would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up with the awesome videos. ur the king of LS
It's simplest to keep the same Gen engine
@@TheDrivewayEngineer thanks man ur the best.
Did you do a compression test to see if the motor was good?
I did exactly what you saw in the video, found it, rotated it, pulled it
Ok so checking the cylinder walls is sufficient..i have to pull a motor tomorrow for my 01 tahoe. Spun a bearing
Watching vid again..ty
r 799 heads gen 3 or 4 ?
Both
You should do a “what to look for when buying a used LS engine” video
I've done more than one
@@TheDrivewayEngineer I’ll search your page. You have taught me a lot so far
Look in the LS basics playlist, there are several videos that should help you on your way in there
I need some info on that Alibaba harness
Where is this junkyard at?
Mason Michigan
They cost 1,000 here wish i was at your scrap yard
Take a road trip!
$1,000 for an old junk yard motor out of a rust bucket.
I would laugh at them.
That's no more than a $500 engine at best.
Lkq sells them 400 but in two years still haven't seen one. Gone that fast. Go for 3500$
Looks exactly like the 5.3 i have in my suburban...same serp belt routing too...are you sure its a 6.0? 6.0's ive seen have diff intake cover that says "MAX" n diff serp belt routing.....awesome vid tho reguardless
That's because all truck accessories route the same and use the same belt, other than I have hydroboost it's the same accessories.
I believe this one also has the higher output alternator.
Anywho, the 6.0 cast into the front and rear of the block and the LQ4 govebox code all add up.
Also, the "Maxx" trucks are half ton only.
O ok...good to know...i work with a guy his 04 escalade has the 6.0awdn his has the max 6.0....love your vids👍
Did I miss how many miles are on'er?
William Cunningham I have no way to tell.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer well I have my popcorn and cold snacks. Love the content I'll be standing by
He's rebuilding it anyway. Hooking up a battery to check mileage only to find no guage cluster or one that has been swapped for a lower mileage one
Yes
Your impact gun on the windshield 1/2 ?
No, standard M18 Fuel, has little chuck adapters for each size drive
Sooo, I can get a complete 6.0 V8 with all the computer stuff, harness, headers, everything for $220 at the yard?! You now have me wondering what it would cost to 6.0/4L80 swap an 03 4x4 1500 ext cab... and you have me wondering what this LS droid thing is. Hmmm... depending on the price to swap, I’ll do it. I wonder what it would cost to Duramax swap it.
Duramax is alot more lol
Thanks.
Are you buying the 03 specifically you asked about?
Frankenblock!!!
Question which heads are best to get 317,862 or 799 heads im trying to get a decent 5.3 or 6.0 truck motor?
ua-cam.com/video/uXMiexAkuXc/v-deo.html
317 and have them machined down a bit they flow the best and have the best chamber design for power or keep it stock and plan for boost
