Don't aim for 100% is some top notch advice.

I like this. This sort of life advice and productivity hacks and such always felt icky to me, and like they're just made to feel better at the moment, while not really changing anything or even saying anything of real substance. But you're making a lot of sense in these videos and it never feels like mumbo-jumbo. Kudos to you, sir.

I love how you're bringing this to a "real" level. A lot of the life hacking stuff that's been showing up to me seems like it was developed by someone who has not struggled at all with what they're talking about...

Such an inspiration and a WAY less stressful method than most. The pressure to make pretty on my do do lists is making me procrastinate more, not less. Thank you my dear.❤️

My favorite part about your videos is your ability to admit human error. The last line, "growth CAN happen," represents this underlying theme immensely. It implies heavily that while your suggestions can be bring good to a person's productivity, it isn't always readily apparent and can take quite some time to form. And sometimes, even results can turn up immediately too.
Kudos for a good video, satch!

Dude I remember being a freshman in high school when I use to watch your vids and streams on normal boots or Twitch playing sonic and all your other escapades with Jontron or StamperTV and Cory Spazkid. Now I'm a junior in university and literally everything you're saying is so useful lmao. I love these vids! I'm glad your uploading more satch! I missed you.

Hey man I'm a freshman in college and have a similar experience. Back when Satchell joined Normal boots around my 8th grade year I use to watch his videos and Normalboots. So strange to see them now.

Already do it and love it. Use a big friggin' notebook myself so I can use the main spaces to plan out the days ahead, and the outskirts as basically a brain dump if something seems particularly important.

I've actually been doing this, digitally, for over a year now for responsibilities and undertakings. For larger tasks, I usually put 3 reminders in different times just in case I'm not feeling up to it when I get the first notification. The last reminder, however, always means "You need to do this now".
It's worked fairly well for me, helping to develop a more productive mentality. I believe the act of crossing out something as "finished" has a certain satisfaction to it that serves as an incentive sometimes.
It feels fucking good to cross that one stressful task out.

"The reality is that we can't keep everything in RAM. We need to offload to storage." That's killer. That's a mindset that I have to get behind.

    • @TehBurek
      @TehBurek 5 років тому

Very fitting analogy, on multiple levels. Firstly, in computer world, we have what's called "virtual memory", where for a process you have a "working set" which is data that is needed for the task at hand and is kept in RAM, while data for processes not currently running can be offloaded to storage, to free up RAM for more pressing matters. And secondly, RAM is volatile, it's not meant for long-term storage, you could lose data to a power outage, or even a crashing program. If you really want to hold onto some data, you need to save it to storage.

I've been doing this without realizing for a while. My biggest piece of advice is to have a white board at home. If you think of something, you can write it down quickly and rearrange it later by simply erasing and rewriting it. You can also use magnets to stick important papers and such you need to address. It also helps to have a planner or even a blank journal on hand for writing stuff down on the go. The important thing is to create many paths to storing your data so that it's as easy as possible to do so. Saving it on your phone sounds tempting, but as soon as you close your notes app you tend to stop caring about what's in it. That sort of implementation is still good for grocery lists, though, because you have your fridge and pantry to remind you to buy groceries, too.

This is so true on all accounts. Been doing the "brain dump", albeit across whatever pieces of paper or notecards I can get access to, for a while now, and while it's great to not *lose* whatever was floating in my head, it also proves to be somewhat daunting when you get a large enough pile of ideas jotted down. I've taken to digitizing my paper notes into a Google Doc, but the fabled "that day will never come" that was mentioned does rear its head as the file has ballooned to 35 pages worth of content (including pictures that spurred ideas, so note purely words and newline spaces), and it does make me hesitate to feel motivated to distribute all of the notes to where they need to go to.
I try to schedule windows of time when I'm actually home and free to get to it, but it always seems to be a case of it's small enough to come back to dealing with later or more and more ideas getting written down from a brain dump and not enough time to log all of those ideas while simultaneously taking care of the ones already logged.

Opinion on adhering to a weekly schedule that is predefined (if you're working from home/self employed)? I've tried more than once to keep my days structured, using a schedule that I write maybe every 2 months, and I repeat it weekly. Lunch at the same time everyday, working same hours every weekday etc. like a school or office. But since the nature of my work is creative and not really structured, combined with a hectic lif (which as you said, pretty much everyone has) it hasn't really been working out.
So the question is, are schedules good? Is it better to just adhere to a task/todo list and not really think about the exact distribution of hours in your day?
