Lyrics:
Yesterday is gone
Today I'm so on the run
How strange tomorrow will be
For you and for me
Cos we got soul don'tcha know ?
Now put your faith in the skies
And see the blues in my eyes
Now it’s starting to dawn
What in the world’s going on ?
I seen some shimmering things
Seen a vision in things
I’m so dumb don'tcha know ?
I’m steeling energy
Some for you some for me
The darkness comes
The night will fall
On and on we hear the call
Now time has come
Spirit power and soul
And I get the feeling
Spirit power and soul
Lay awake too long
Dark has come hope has gone
I seen some glimmer in things
It’s just the visions i’m in
When we all turn to gold
When make believe is in your eyes
That’s when I realise
The dawn has come
Your star will fall
On and on we hear the call
Now time has come
Spirit power and soul
And I get the feeling
Spirit power and soul

If this album had come out in the '80s or '90s, it probably would've sold millions of copies and been considered a classic now.
Agreed
es la primera vez que oigo un disco de solista de Mars, estoy de acuerdo, se escucha puro
Looking forward to hearing this tomorrow night in Miami!
Easily. It's like better New Order
It is so good!
Johnny Marr is killing it on this track...the whole album is top notch!
Johnny sings great!! Wonder why he kept this a secret for so long? Agreed Martin, top notch!!
My sister, who has been living in the UK for about 15 years (We are from Mexico), told me that she once attended an an a&q with Johnny Marr at Oxford Union and that less than 15 people attended that event. She felt sad that the room was empty, but she told me that Johnny was so positive and smart and just happy to be there. I wish more people would appreciate him. I feel like he's only mentioned when people don't wanna feel guilty about listening to The Smiths, because of Morrissey. His music is great and he's a great human being. I hope more people get to listen to his music and truly appreciate him for what he is.
It was a good talk and it looks well attended.

I had to screencap the tweet, because she has her twitter on private now
This is total "Electronic", when he and Bernard Sumner (New Order) played together.
Good point, sounds a lot better than Electronic though. I like both Sumner and Marr but never really warmed up to Electronic, probably the production (where was the guitar). GAWI as played by JFM works pretty well though.
I agree! Sounds like Electronic and I can see some references of Molchat Doma too
@@Peakabike The first Electronic album was great. The last one, Twisted Tenderness was overproduced. Of course by that time New Order were back together so I don't think Barney was cared about T.T. as much.
Exactly what I thought.
yeah, 1996 music. i expect better
Absolute legend!! Mr. Marr is aging like fine wine.
He’s still 99% cooler than the general population.

Well yeah. Maybe higher now since Betty White...
35 years after the Smiths, Johnny still rocks my world! Thank you Mr. Marr!
ua-cam.com/video/8hzUuYQiaXE/v-deo.html
I swear Johnny Marr gets effortlessly cooler by the day.
Couldn’t say it better.
The coolest musician of his day
Ah yes! He’s always been far more talented than Gallagher but now he’s also far more cooler than Morrissey too! 😎 🎸
@@CaptainOatwright yep I loved Morrissey in the days of The Smiths and his early solo years but now unfortunately I’ve lost interest in his latest work but will still love and cherish the work he did in earlier years, so different and creatively different to any other band or musician there has ever been. Johnny was and still is the coolest, creative, very different style guitarist writing songs with brilliantly different riffs, guitar parts and songs to anything else out there, beautifully accompanying Moz’s amazing lyrics his music has always been excellent, with time Johnny has excelled and progressed as a musician becoming a guitar playing singer and getting better and better with everything he does, Johnny has an aurora and style about him that will always interest me and want to listen to what he does, always been my greatest guitar idol and always will.
Hundredth like
Father John has more pickups on his strat than I have friends
Lmfao 😂
Lmfaooo
friends overrated says the pickups
Statement rings true for also! 🤣 🤣 🤣
So reminiscent of his Electronic era , it's got that punchy 80s New Order vibe with a Pet Shop Boys beat , love it!
Spot on!!
I also hear DEPECHE MODE
This song is one of Johnny Marr’s best!
One of the greatest guitar hero of the History of ROCK!
He's like a mad scientist on a Fender Jaguar
I can hear the bassline from "Touched by the Hand of God" by New Order here!
I loved the track!
You got it spot on! I hear plenty of New Order, Depeche Mode, Kasabian, The Mission and Simple Minds like riffs. A belter.
IMO his work with Bernard Sumner, PSB has been better than the Smiths output (heresy, yes, I know)
@@pewburrito Go wash your mouth out! :-)
A bit of Death or Alive !!
@@pewburrito anything without Morrissey is always a bonus.
Fender: "How many pickups do you need, Johnny?"
Johnny: "YES."
ua-cam.com/video/o0Kqg7PMuSQ/v-deo.html
Reminded of Ron Swanson here: “Son, I’m worried you think you heard me say I wanted SOME pickups on my guitar. What I actually said was, I want ALL the pickups on my guitar.”
Accurate LOL

When I first saw the nine pickups on his Fender Stratocaster I thought, "That's a bit excessive, Johnny." Then I thought, "Wait. Spirit, power and soul would require three pickups each to adequately convey the necessary sound elements!" Sometimes you just have to think things through. Great track, Johnny. Now I want one of those Strats!!
Think Nigel Tufnel and you'll be some where there! Although in all fairness Nigel only had 8 on his Music man😂
Well observed. I think that Strat is ironic.
From the January 1997 issue of Guitar - By far the weirdest thing in Marr's collection, however, is his nine pickup Fender Strat. "I got it really cheap," he excuses himself, feebly. "Not only are there nine pickups, but there's an on/off and in/out-of-phase switch for each pickup. I'm not making this up, 'cos Noel was witness to that dreadful event. Bizarre! But I just thought, if Kraftwerk played guitar, they'd play this! I used it on the rhythm outro of Electronic's Out Of My League (from Raise The Pressure). I figured it would give some really strange harmonics... and if you just replace the word 'strange' with 'sh*t', then I was right."
Power is the bridge, spirit is the middle, and the soul is that classic neck pickup sound.
@@poodle559 yes Nigel from Spinal Tap came straight to mind!!!
In a corner somewhere, Bernie Sumner is sobbing, repeating “ Bastard” over and over having just heard his mate come up with a song that sounds more like New Order than New Order…🤣👌
Your comment also makes me think of the numerous times of Rik reacting to Vyvyan.
Then he should call him and get a new Electronic album on the go!
Nah, it also needs Hooky to sound like New Order. But it sure sounds like Electronic. Then again, so does New Order nowadays.
New Order are Fxckin boring times ten
I would say it sound more like Electronic due to the better classic Marr guitar riffs. Great song!
When I hear I can’t help but think the Smiths weren’t a fluke and that Marr really is that good . What an awesome track
How the hell could the Smiths be a fluke?
@@truemansparks they were so brief and almost have a perfect storm scenario . Listening to Marr and Moz now I’ve realized in retrospect strangeways could’ve been the beginning . There’s a lot of groups that should’ve stopped or never reunited that never caught lightning in a bottle twice . The Smiths would’ve still been relevant today . Remember Oasis last album or did you think Coldplay’s last album was as relevant as the first ? I saw a GnR vid in passing and it was so cringe . U2 should’ve stopped decades ago
@@33cattt49 There is no space in the cultural landscape for any of this now, just pockets like here where it exists.
@@33cattt49 Very true the thing about The smiths the albums are so different from each other I loved Meat is murder for the fact it was so different from the debut album but just as good if not better and Strangeways had a much heavier darker tone to it so yes I believe they could have gone on to make even more great albums.how strange that you mention Oasis's last album Dig out your soul I have it on order and it is arriving today! I came to realise after a few hearings it's their best since Definitely maybe I just had lost interest at the time it came out as for Coldplay I've never liked them especially after ripping off Joe Satriani so blatantly! I agree about U2 first four albums great after that just corporate whores.
Of course he's that good, he spent years in the early days learning his craft. How good do you want to be?
I’d like to thank 6 Music for introducing my ears to this little beauty. I knew as soon as it started that I loved it. BBC 6 music truly is the best radio station there is. I have discovered so many amazing artists as a result of listening. Great presenters and really eclectic sounds. Long live music. 💓

I have no idea who this person is, but I need this in my life
HA! your kidding right? how does anyone accidentally land on this page?
This is the true genius of The Smiths.
Absolutely superb. Johnny dipping his toes into his Electronic days, with a tip of the hat to the Pet Shop Boys. This would also be a kicking 12 inch.
Depeche Mode alert
There's a 12" remix of it for RSD22
More akin to New Order to me.
The eternal flame of JFM burns brighter than ever!
I always liked Johnny Marr, but when I met him by chance and we chatted for a while one night, I became a fan. What a truly awesome guy and so humble. His music is timeless 🤘❤️🤘
Always like hearing stories like this. Especially with all-time talents the focal point.
He really is the opposite of Morrisey
Lucky guy

I bumped into him in London a couple days ago, such a humble and down to earth guy, had a really great chat with him!!
Waking up to new Johnny Marr music is the best way to start the day 🔥🔥🔥
That Strat has NINE pickups. Holy cow.

soul of the Smiths
Johnny Marr is so talented no matter what he does. I met him in Boston and he was incredibly nice very down to earth. Sad to miss this concert saw him every time always rocks .
How to make a giant Buzz ? Johnny's answer : A 9 single coil pick-ups unshielded strat !
YEAHHHHHH
Facts!
What a killer track ! New sound without denying yourself. Worldclass ! Can't wait for the forthcoming album and a gig in France !
Waiting in France too !!!
God-damn, if he doesn't know how to write a catchy pop tune, I dont know who does..Amazing.

Belter of a track. Johnny's always moving forward.
Oh god I just can't stop this on repeat today 🤩😍
This is the only artist that was equal (and still is) to Robert Smith and Simon Gallup of the 1980s. Glory to all of you and plead with all of you to join together for the cause of peace in this crazy world!
Touched by the hand of Marr.
We need an Electronic reunion (with Neil and Chris) in the studio.
With this song, I hope we end up getting there eventually.
This entire album is so great!
Electronic vibes, love it, I cant wait to see you live again
Everyone, knee before the guitar player of "This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave" and "My October Symphony"! Johnny we love you!
Johnny f’n Marr ! Awesome …
Johnny Marr, you are incredible. Hugs from Brazil! 🇧🇷
Welcome back Johnny, 2021 needs you.
The only thing that could make Johnny even more badass and cooler than he already is is that he went all disco while playing the guitar, and IT HAPPENED!!!
Love the sound of the guitar
Good to see Johnny getting a little 'Electronic'.
I’m pleasantly impressed. Johnny Marr has always been the cool as fuck but still down to earth. He isn’t a complete snobby lunatic like Morrissey.
'Snobby Lunatic' YES! but always fascinating, love and respect to Johnny Marr, but personally i find this is a bit standard vocally, musically and lyrically compared to er...ANYTHING on 'I am not a dog on a chain' 'pleasantly impressed' is about right.
I wouldn’t say that. I lost a bit of respect when he jumped into the whole issues of politics.
I met Marr in Feb 2003, was one of the coolest people I have ever met, ever. He even gave me a free ticket to his show cause it was sold out at the Troubador. Frickin coolest guy ever.
Well I met Johnny and morrissey and morrissey was the nice one. So there goes your theory... 😂
...except you call yourself@@LoneWolf-cv6pl, so are possibly not the best judge of character
Always ahead of his times.
Siempre lo voy a respetar por su sonido caracteristico, gracias Johny❤
Congrats Johnny: always the best! Chuuuuune!

how?
Marty DiBergi: "I see this guitar has nine pickups instead of the standard two or three"
Johnny: "Sometimes you need that extra _oomf,_ so you go six more"
Marty DiBergi: "Why don't you install three pickups that have a more, powerful dynamic range?"
Johnny: [pause] "This goes to nine"
Perfect
Johnny Marr is always inspiring another nice one.
I didn’t know anything about him as an artist or his past with the smiths and modest mouse when I went to see The Killers on tour recently. He opened for them and me and my friend were both blown away how much we loved all the songs he was blasting!

Oh... absolutely I like it! This is the sound we need in the middle of this kind of music we have nowadays. Sorry for my English not so good.
This is 🔥 Johnny has never sounded as fresh. His voice sounds amazing! And the production is flawless! I’m obsessed with the fusion of Johnny’s always amazing guitar work with the synths. Reminds me of the genius collaboration Johnny had with Bernard Sumner which gave us the brilliant first Electronic album. Cannot wait to hear more from “Fever Dreams”
Johnny Marr saves 2021 2022. This new album is mine. Master craftsman
Powerful track which makes my way back to 80's in modern style.
Great stuff.
Congrats JM!
He can do no wrong in my eyes. Fkn love Johnny Marr ❤️
Jonny and Morrissey = 😻
Better late than never. This is awesome. I was searching for interviews for old stuff and came across . I had no idea…. I feel a little guilty that I didn’t know that he was so good solo….
Marr s all about class . He s a superb musician
Les Paul: You don’t need any more than 2 pickups.

PS. Hold my 'signature series' beers! LOL
Leslie West: Why do you need two?

LOL.
This song reminds me of Touched by the hand of God.. .. Love it anyway. 😍
Always improving, always pushing past the bounderies. Thank you!
It's a grower. Can't stop listening. I like the video too. Tune has as a bit of an 'Electronic' vibe to it. I could hear Bernard singing this. But Johnny is the man - Spirit, Power and Soul
Amazing song! Johnny is making again timeless music as usual. For this one, he should've called his mate Barney from New Order to sing along with him as special guest! Great bands can mix electronic and rock with style! Thanks for another great song, Johnny! 🍻🎸🎹🇧🇷❤️🇬🇧
That's one bad ass guitar.
Cool retro track Johnny and that Spinal Tap, this one goes to 9 pick ups, Strat, feels like true '80s excess

Your solo work just keeps getting better and better. Man, what’s up with all those guitar pickups?! Ha! Good one Johnny!
Doesn't it just.
Please come back to LA .....we need more Marr now.
The song penetrates my soul the first time it is heard - like food for the psyche - Johnny Marr gets better with every song ---- THAT alone is a masterpiece. Keep it up, Johnny ---- Greetings from a fan from Germany
