These exercises have helped me begin to address hip rotation and help with the deep six; as a middle eastern dancer, I use those muscles for a lot of different movements, many of which were compromised with my injury. Doing the exercises in this video even once I could feel the difference in how the muscles responded. Thank you so very much again!

7 months ago I suffered a burst L1 from a 40+ foot fall (along with other injuries.. neck fusion at C6/7 and open book fracture) I'm using a walker now, very slowly.... and having trouble. I see my right hip rotating outward ... at rest and walking. The right foot as well has this seemingly adherent posture. From the right knee it progresses outward. During walking: I can pull the knee upward and reduce this, but only when my left hip flexor and lower back are stretched. (able to stand upright without pulling forward) Most of my spasticity is seen on the left side as well, causing a pull to my left. The left side muscles tighten, and alter my ability to stand upright without a pull to left. I have been able to reduce the left side and lower back tightness, but having a tough time stopping the right hip from splaying outward (and foot). My therapist and I have been working on left hip flexor stretching and right quadriceps. Also, I'm back to work full-time at a computer most of the day... and sitting is my enemy! Trying to exercise and walk at least 2 hours/day. Been watching all your videos and find them most helpful and educational. Any advice is appreciated! I may need to alter how to overcome problem with "pulling" my right leg forward by opening the hip. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Tara, great informative videos, can I ask if 1 foot points forward and the other is at 1 o’clock, could it also be caused by tight calf muscles?, I’m asking because the top outside of my calf is painful if I deep massage it and the back of my heals often feel a bit strained.
    Many thanks, Adrian

    Hello Ms. Tobias
After viewing this video, in which I find in depth and informative! After having hip replacement surgery(May 31st, 2022). I notice that my foot was pointing to the extreme left in stead of being straight...Sorry to not state that the implant is on the left side.
I've been in therapy for about 6 weeks, To ME, the strength and stretches I'm doing is light weight. Your video is definitely more challenging, my only question is how long to hold stretches? And how long before results can be felt and seen?

    Hi Tara
You are really guiding us in very nice manner and giving us a new prospective
    but I have some doubts
you are suggesting here about the internal rotation with adduction to counter the external rotation of the lower limb
but as the patients are spending most of the time in bed or recumbent position its making the adductors tight which is creating an obstacle for the further rehabilitation
so I think stretching of adductors with rest of what you have mentioned will be a good option

This has been going on for 3 months and when I sleep my knee pops up in my foot goes right up into my crotch and get stuck and I have to push it down with the cane. Literally driving me crazy because I can't get any sleep because it happens 20 times a night. If I could have you as my doctor I think I'd be walking in a couple months because I have an Iron Will.😁

Is there a possibility that you make a video specifically about heel/glutes issues post stroke. One of my major issues that is really bothering me is my almost total inability to apply pressure through my heel of my affected side. (Even while sitting and trying to press on my heel - it feels SO weak - that I dont have the strength at all!) As a result I know I'm not using the right muscles while walking /can't heel strike much and that indicates that my glutes are weak. I can't seem to find anything about this issue and would love information from you on this issue and how to fix it! Please help!

Great question Aaron! In some cases, yes. I have also seen this with someone who has a really "floppy/weak" ankle. We call it a lateral whip. If this is the case, you will not see as much of the knee pointing outward and more of just the foot. I hope that helps!

Hey lady I don't mean to sound like a jerk but some of us aren't as smart as you. I enjoy your channel. Yes I'm depressed because I feel all my therapist aren't as smart or educated as you are and I'm not getting the quality therapy you bring to the table. I try to listen to your channel because you truly know what you're doing and talking about. But you go so fast through the exercises and spend so much time explaining, I'm sorry it came out that way. But I'm so frustrated because I have medi cal insurance and like I said every where I've been sent for therapy has been a joke I haven't seen a qualified therapist.,there all young kids or adults doing what ever one person tells them to do. And they don't focus on my wants or needs. Most of the time these people are on their cell phones and you can tell they truly don't care about their jobs or people.
