- Late last year I got the chance to spend the day testing Mountune's 520hp kit for the Mk3 Ford Focus RS. Is 520hp too much for a hot hatch? As you can see, it certainly makes for a hilarious driving experience on Essex's wet and muddy winter roads. People keep complaining about reliability. This is mountune with forge internals. I'll take the focus RS. Audi RS3 is boring looking and I would only by when I get old.
i dont think people who says with 520 this engine will blow up doesnt know what forged internals means. They forge internals to make sure engine doesnt blow up.
but other than that as a ford fanboy im really disappointed by what 2.3 ecoboost turned up to be. They could just put the 2.0 ecoboost in it and everything would be fine. This car could have much bigger cult following. Not only ford people, Tuner scene would love this car aswell

Its not the first step in power there are mark2 focus's out there with between 500hp to 900hp
RDU software mod for more rear power and def JCR seat lowering kit. And with Audi you loose the manual trans.

can we expect the gearbox internals to eat themselves in a couple of thousand miles?
The gearbox and drivetrain is remarkably strong in these cars. It uses the same gearbox as the Focus ST with some extra bits for the AWD, and people have had them up to 600hp without issues. You'll burn your synchros faster if you're beating on it, but there's an upgrade for that too.
As an old fart, I can remember the days when £13000 for a new Ford Focus was expensive. When did £40k become a bargain?
Inflation of money and horsepower, I think. It's all relative, I guess!
520 tested?
Mountune dont tune the cars themselves, its done remotely from someone in the US. A handful of m520 owners have gone to Sabre Tuning to get theres tuned up by a someone who actually knows how to tune a car...

supocarta74 you can use some of it on the road. And trackdays are a thing. Not everyone is so gloomy 😅
This is a guy who knows nothing about this car. "could be the r34 of our generation?" lol. I have one, you have to throw away the motor after 550 HP and go with the Focus ST 2.0L if you want to build it higher. This isn't the "first step", it's the last step. Then the Engine and RDU give out. Feel free to give a review of the car, but why spout nonsense?

Have you heard of any cases or the RDU packing up? A bit of a cool down yes but not yet heard of one failing.
