- It's time for something a little different! We've managed to get ahold of a souped-up Mountune Ford Focus RS! Normally, this hot hatch, with its 350hp output, would be obliterated by the Mercedes-AMG G63 and the E63 S estate, both of which have immense, 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8s and around 600hp! However, the Mountune RS gets a gigantic power boost, with its 2.3-litre, turbocharged engine now putting out 520hp! Is this - plus its lighter weight compared to the Mercs - enough to make it today's victor? There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!

Watch from 2 minutes to 5 minutes. Automatics are gonna dominate most of the time but the manual driver has a big role to play too.
Edit : just noticed the comments in the other video noting the Tesla had a low charge so its performance was reduced. But I think the argument still stands

Have you watched every so called 'Mountune' race? Often slower than stock. Their GTR was an absolute embarrassment, we built a much faster one in my mates shed. Dunno how they are in business.

Seems odd that Mountune do all that work to essentially give it a race engine, and then not put a 6 speed sequential box that they offer for the RS.

Iron Max doesn’t matter about it being auto, it lost the rolling race as well. That car probably weighs 3-400kg more. Mountune are just sh*t at tuning
@@chrismp3 No. What you're seeing is the problem with simply tuning for power. Big, lazy turbo and a manual box so when they boot it the Focus is just sitting there waiting for boost then it starts catching then it needs another gear and takes more time to get the boost back up.
When it's actually making boost it's quicker than that G wagon and probably a good run for the E class but it spends so much time lagging that they have already got a big advantage before it can do anything.
It looked way slower than 520hp, considering the Ford is also probably a lot lighter
Yeah, no possible way it's making 520 hp and only running 12.5 in the 1/4 mile. It should be down around 11.5 in the 1/4 mile with 520 hp. This is coming from a WRX and an STi owner (I ran mid 12s with just basic bolt ons on my STi - full catless exhaust and tuning). That Focus RS should be able to run 12.5s with just 400 hp with a good driver.

To be completely honest, the mark 4 wasn't even really fast when stock. It's not slow either but nowhere near the performance figures of present day cars.
Why? A modern Auto with more Horsepower with same weight will destroy it. I love the Supra but this is pointless...

The E63s is like: Aight, Imma head out...😅
In 2nd gear the Focus is fwd only, look at the tach go right to the limiter. The clutch that couples the rear driveshaft is not strong enough, maybe because it always slips, as the car does not have center diff. The same system is in the E63 but reversed, so that clutch couples the front axle which has a lot less weight on it on accelerations, so torque is much less. It may be stronger too.

focus has a gearshift problem, every time it shifts it it loses power, it needs better tuning in the gear system
My guess is he's red lining every gear and losing his power band for the next gear up, my car revs to 7.2k but its useless for straight line acceleration, changing at high 5/6k doesn't half feel make a difference
no the driver of the focus is just shifting like it's his first time driving a manual car, even in the first race from stand still, horrible shifts.

the mk3 rs aint that fun to drive. quite boring compared to previous rs models. quite shocked this was running big power and struggled against 2 standard amg cars. put 500bhp into a scooby or evo and i dont think the amgs would stand a chance
