Just a shame he’s tarnished his relationship with his home city and is hated by the majority of Liverpool supporters because of his affiliation with The S*n newspaper.
@@JM-oo1ww I wasn’t aware of this, it’s disappointing that anyone would be involved with that rag, particularly a Liverpudlian given their disgraceful coverage of Hillsborough. Still though, his acting prowess remains undeniable.
Does anyone know what he says in the 2nd scene as Combo goes off to play table tennis with his mentee? Mates? Aids? Gays? Outs? I've played it back 100 times and I have no idea what he even says
This was excellent. The way Combo almost reverts to his old ways when the rage from that letter sets in. How you see his facial expression change back and forth from new Combo to old Combo. He's an unsettling character. Then they up the uncomfortable experience with Paddy's parts even further.
@Louis Cypher Exactly. I really thought he was going to pounce over the table and attack the guy he was teaching. But he showed restraint (change) and the ability to conquer his demons. I think paddy took that recorder to so he could record his final goodbye before he hung himself. Not only was his wife cheating on him while he was locked up, but Combo also said no, so he couldn't get revenge either. Guess it sent an already unstable Paddy over the edge.
@Louis Cypher When I first watched it, I thought he had secretly recorded the conversation with Combo. Maybe he was going to doctor it or something. Then I watched it again just now and noticed none of the buttons were pressed in. @ 11:54 he's pushing down the Play button. If he was recording, both the Play and Record button would be pressed in. But why even bother pushing the play button down before he walks away with the cassette recorder? Makes no sense to me. In the end I just assumed that Paddy had the volume down, pressed play to symbolise that he was now going to go ahead and kill himself, and perhaps played some music while doing so. It's an interesting shot. The guard wakes combo later to ask Combo if he had any part in the suicide, so I guess there can't have been a recorded message. I'm gonna go with Paddy playing some music while he hanged himself
The character Combo nobody else could have played that role and I feel bad for him in this situation trying to do the right thing, it's not easy keeping your head down in prison I've been there a couple of times and people who still have time to do always try mess with your head and provoke you into doing something that will eliminate your chances of parole out of jealousy. He really has changed at this point.
What an actor … he sends you on an emotional roller coaster with him. I’ve just watched all the seasons again.. I feel emotionally wrung out .. what a brilliant piece of work ! ❤
The library scene should have been kept in shows how much combo has changed. He beat milky up because he was jealous and upset about his own family and in this scene he’s upset about something that happened to him with the letter and you can feel his anger but he doesn’t lose his temper with the guy he’s teaching. Serious character growth
