You can balance the rig with a basic light stand. Thats what I used. I left a link in the description.
Haven't seen the video yet but I have the same steadicam, sooo IM INTRIGUED
Why did you not get the Moza Air 2?
@@thekaiser4333 lolololol
Just want you to know that you cost me a bunch of money. After watching this, and studying while saving cash, I just purchased my first gimbal, and the necessary parts to make this rig.
Great idea, thank you for sharing. Cant wait to try mine.
It’s all about the footwork honestly
Great piece of added info on this setup. I have Weebil-S with GH5s and RS2 with ZCam E2-M4 + 3D focus and Sirui Anamorphic lenses, and speedboosters for both for EF lenses. I've been looking at the right vest to purchase to do exact same thing you did. Now I just place the order. Thanks!!!
Thank for your honesty and simple pure sharing
Wow, good informations👍👍
Id love to watch more test footage!!!
Haha that was fun watching it! I've been one of your followers since the beginning and I believe your content deserves more views and subscribers. Keep up the good work 💪
I appreciate that Gokhan, I will keep going. Do you shoot photography as well?
Finally...I subscribed. Thanks for all of the ZV-1 content and now this. I definitely want to have a rig like this one day. You can't beat having a vest to support your camera and stabilizer.
Thanks for the sub! I appreciate it
I’ve been watching your videos for about a week now and I gotta say, I really enjoy your content! Because of your videos, I went out and picked up a Sony ZV-1! I’ve seen you use that camera recently and it looked perfect for the content I want to create! You have a lot of good tips and I can’t wait to use them out in the field!
Welcome aboard! and glad to hear
Absolutely Brilliant!! This is the perfect solution. Kudos for putting this together and sharing it.
Glad it was helpful! do you have the flycam galaxy?
@@thefilmalliance I'm selling my old gear on eBay which should bring in around $1,000. I do have the DJI RS2 and a BMPCC 6K. What you've come up with is brilliant. Combining the FlyCam with a powered gimbal is essentially a poor man's Trinity.
Thank you so much for the solution presented in this presentation of yours. I was thinking of assembling something like this, and you answered all my questions. I appreciate what you have done so much. 👌 Cheers
Thank you, I am glad you are getting value from my videos.
Nice ingenuity, and well presented video! I sometimes wind up with a sore back when I use my gimbal for extended periods of time. This looks like a feasible solution!
Good stuff! Thanks for the feedback. Yes this thing is a game changer
You’ve inspired me to make better videos and helped me a lot with your tips! Keep it up with the amazing quality videos you make!
Thank you for saying that, I really appreciate the feedback. As long as your getting value, Im happy.
Great video! Loved it! Thank you very much.
2 Questions:
1. Would this rig support, balance well and hold firmly a ZcamE2 S6 with a sigma 18-35mm zoom lens?
2. What would be the overall COST RANGE of this steadicam rig including the RS2 gimbal?
Could become my next project! Thanks a lot for sharing this.
My pleasure. It was fun to build and looks awesome
Interesting video, I was looking up the Came TV and found this. Going with this or the came tv variation.
such a cool video !!!
Holy crap if I walked town a London street with this one I’d get arrested🤣🤣🤣🤣
HAHAHA It looks crazy right?
Amazing video! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks so much. Anytime:)
This is great video man!! Brilliant set-up, I've actually ordered the Redking because of this video thanks!! I got a question: How did you mount the monitor on the arm?? Also how did you mount the Zhiyun Crane on the Flycam??
Thanks man, really relatable video. I’m just about to produce a short film and I’m totally investing in this rig for super steady shots 👊🏻🎬
Go for it!, It will save your back as well.
5:21 Damn, your setup looked like the M56 Smart gun from the movie Aliens 😳That's Bad A$$
Hello mate, great video it's nice and descriptive. Can I just ask how do you manage your focusing when using this set up? Do you think it would still work just as well with follow focus rig and microphone set up on it too?
Cheers. Fran
Thanks Joe for this video. Great content as usual.
By the way, in the timestamps, you forgot to include 0:00 , so that your chapters can appear in the progression bar of the video 🙏☺️
Good call! Thank you, I will fix now
Hey there! AMAZING video. Quick question. I have a DJI Rsc2 and noted that you didn't feel safe attaching the handle to the redking with a small screw. Do you think it would be possible to maybe use a different release plate? Maybe the Ulanzi F38? I do't even know if the manfrotto release plate is removable off the redking? Looking for any advice before I buy all this...trying to see if I can make my rsc2 work before buying the rs3 pro
HEY! Great video, what was the grip holding your monitor to the fly cam chest arm? Thanks.
Very very nice hard work
Great job... maybe you and Adam should go into manufacturing!
I have now the same equipement and it is perfect.
Could you use this DIY stabilizer when hiking in the mountains? even going up steep inclines ?
Thank you so much for making this video and putting all the links in description, I'm really excited to put together this rig for myself. I was just going to settle for gimbal only footage, but you've given me renewed optimism for smoother footage!
Do you have to ninja walk or in any way alter your walking to get smooth footage? Can you just walk normally and hold it in place with your hands to make it look smooth on video?
Glad I could help! I would say you still have to do a bit of a ninja walk but nothing like when Im hand holding the camera
Amazing. Obviously a lot of R&D went into making that rig. Great build and the footage is super. You're right that subtle movements affect the image (or the Ken Burns Effect wouldn't work). Probably the cheapest steadicam on the planet.
Next, can you show us how to build a crab dolly out of go kart parts?
Yes Henry, you are right. A lot went into this one. Thanks for your appreciation
I love the video, made me sub. I hope I can ask you a question? Why is the glidecam needed? Couldn't I just use any extendable rod and attach everything to that? If I got a handle that is. Or am I missing something about the glidecam that I'm not understanding? I just got the RS2 and after watching first Bestboys movie and then yours I just feel/know I have to build a rig like this. Just trying to figure out if the Glidecam and the 250$ is essensional or not...
Great video. I enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the feedback
First off great video! Why did you decide not to mount the Ronin Gimble directly to the Flycam Galaxy with the GyroVu Universal Stabilizer Arm Post Adapter for DJI Ronin-S? I'm looking to purchase the Flycam Galaxy without the Redking and would like to know your thoughts.
Hey love the setup i wanna buy something like it i wanna ask if you recommend with the ronin s
Hey, awsome Video! im thinking of buying the same setup the only difference is, I'm using an Crane 3s with a BMPCC 6k. Altogether is my setup with gimble around 6.4 KG with a Standard Lens. What do you think would the Vest, Arm and Glidecam also be able to cary more than 7kg?
can you also power the camera off the v-mount battery? like if you had a pocket 6k on this rig?
Great video! This is exactly what I've been wanting to do after I saw the video from bestboy Adam. Thanks!
Do you think you could have made it work with the RSC2 at all? I'm not in the US so changing my RSC2 for the RS2 is really difficult.
Hey there, thank you for that. The RSC to only has one screw hole and I’m not a big fan of only using one male to male quarter inch thread. If you can swing the RS two that would be better
Awesome video.... great tutorial, and love the way you " Make me decide to subscribe" method...
Thanks, thats very nice of you
niceee, you did my recommendation ! both solutions to get a better stabilization !! I use this solution with other gimbal and steadycam !! nice buddy
Good to hear, what rig did you use to achieve this?
@@thefilmalliance yeah I using flycam + Feiyutech for walking, , you will get best results with both jointed stabilizers
Hey, GREAT video. I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to be buying this setup. My questions is, what is that pole you're using to balance the redking?
Thank you! I have gotten this question before so I just left a link in the description. Sorry about that. Its a basic light stand.. - Light stand to balance the rig - amzn.to/3p0at1p
At the bottom of the rig I know you have the Neewer V Mount Battery but did you remove the counter weight plates because it was too heavy? Thanks!
I'm building this right now... do you have any setting suggestions for the RS2? I'm getting the wobble someone else mentioned, even after balancing and calibrating.
Hey I have the proaim vista/Redking package and the rs2. I have A HUGE WORRY. The handle of the redking. Looking at the bolt connecting the handle to the mechanical gimbal and it's pretty thin. What are your thought's about building the minity with that bolt being the only thing holding the weight???
Great video. I am starting to get back problems for a few days after a shoot and this looks like a great solution.
Are you able to control the tilt axis of the gimbal with this setup?
Thanks, yes you can by counter weights (not motor).
I’m curious why you didn’t invert the Arca Swiss Mount and use that to balance the battery like best boy Adam?
The footage is amazing! Considering what this cost, feels like a bit of a miracle vs. buying the ARRI setup.
Yes exactly!
Hold on this the flycam version ...Yeah he'll yeah
Could you do the same with just the regular Ronin S as it also has a detachable handle and tikta has a power supply adapter? Or do you strongly recommend the Ronin RS2
So how do you get fore/aft balance on the RK with a sideways stage? My guess is since you're gripping that post in every shot is you don't.
Genius!
Thanks, what camera are you shooting with?
what camera do you think I should buy for a Music video and what you think of Ronin 2 with your set up.. And pls let me know if possible you can arrange those set up for someone to buy from you.
When you used the a7s3 and ronin s2 did you use blue springs, red springs or a combo of blue and red?
Great video! I might go with your build instead of waiting on the Float. Is there room to attach a follow focus controller to pull focus?
Float is bad no matter what u do it is damn near impossible to balance the arms ... also it is so taxing on the back returned it what a disappointment
Yes I think you could attach it to the main arm like those Arri Trinities
Loved the video (:
Glad you liked it thank you
Nice video and exactly the problem I had😊
I just received the Tilta base plate, and try to assemble. Do you know a solution to connect the origina rs2 -battery to the Tilta?
Not that I know of but that is a great idea!!
Great video! I just completed my rig like the one you have built here! its pretty Awesome! one question is at time 8:07 it seems you have a rubber band attached to the end of the arm. Is this to keep the arm from flopping everywhere? also, where did you get that tripod to balance the red king? thanks in advance and again great video!
Hi Yazmin, so happy for you! Yes the rubber band is to keep the arm from swinging and flopping. The tripod to balance the armed king is a cheap light stand I purchased on Amazon. I just inserted Redking handle on it because the handle is hollow. Do you need a link of what I’m talking about?
Question i already have a rsc2 do u know any way to possibly connect it safely to the glidecam ??🙏
Heck yeah bro I’m building one and I almost have everything to do it!
Thank you, Im happy your getting value from these videos yyy Are you more into filmmaking or photography, or both?
@@thefilmalliance filmmaking, wanna hopefully be a cinematographer one day on big productions. I just picked up a camera a little over a year ago, and I’ve been teaching myself everything. I spend at least 5 hours a day shooting or trying to make a video or doing some research on something. Ever since I have started it has really grabbed a hold of me!
I have one question.. can the feiyutech ak4500 attach to the flycam redking the way the ronin rs2 does
I have one question: Is it still the same story if I use dji ronin rs3 pro instead of dji ronin rs2? Thank you very much for your time and understanding.
Excellent video, you filled in some holes from others.
No feet? Do you put it down on the battery?
I put it down on a nightstand I bring onto the set. The handle fits right inside. Thank you
I’m going to try this exact setup when i can afford it!!
Have you seen my exposure video? This should help you a lot.
@@thefilmalliance I’ll go check it out now 👌🏽
HI, great video, I have rsc2, any way i can secure that on this setup
Yes you can, but the little screw may be to brittle for the heavy setup. Be careful!
Thanks for the video, I was interested in using the Zhyiun Crane 2S as my gimbal attached to the Galaxy Vest and Redking. I don't know of a power supply similar to the Tilta version that you're using with the ronin. Do you think there might be trouble with this setup because of the height of the 2S on the Redking? Thanks again. Dave
Glad it was helpful!, what cameras do you have?
Could you, please, post some shots? Those in the video aren't that perfect as I hoped, but I see a lot of potential in your setup. I was surprised that Tilta misses some kind of quick-release. Thank you for that info.
I have a ronin S. Would this work with it?
Those plate screw are either 6-32 or 8-32. Those are available any hardware store.
Great video, but did you balance role axis (at the bottom of steadycam)?
Thanks, no I used the redking stabilizer knobs to balance the roll
Thank you!
You're welcome! Do you have a similar rig?
@@thefilmalliance I have never held a professional camera. I've been watching your videos and Sean Kitchening to learn the system. Been thinking about buying the FX3 and do my own vlogging. Thank you for all your hard work!
-M
Nice work! Are you just balancing on a normal light stand to set it up? I’m getting tired waiting for the Tilta Float so I may just go with this as I already have the Tilta base plate and several bits.
How are you focussing though?
Yes I am balancing on a light stand. Im auto focus at this pint but you can pull focus with a focus puller on the main arm
@@thefilmalliance Nice. Thanks for that.
Thanks for the video, I finally got my Ronin S2 and purchased the Vista arm and vest from Proaim. I'm really happy with the S2 but when I put the rig together like you've done, I'm getting a little back and forth on the roll axis when I walk ( the RS2 will roll a little bit side to side and makes the footage unusable. I was wondering if you or anybody else has run across this? The RS2 is flawless when I hand hold it but when I put in on my poor mans "Trinity" I'm getting that wobble on the roll axis when I walk. Lastly, the Trinity is balanced. I've got a V mount battery on the bottom of the Redking gimbal attached with a quick relase plate. My only thought is if I could attach something that could move the battery side to side might help as I can move it forward and back on the quick relase plate. Thanks again for the video.
Hi David, that’s awesome! I’m not experiencing any of the roll your talking about. Have you tried calibrating the gimbal? I hate when people recommend that but sometimes it works. That would be a great idea to figure out a way to move the battery side to side to give more flexibility. Have you figured out a way to do it? I know the guy I referenced in the video did something similar. His name is best boy Adam.
Hi David, got my R2 just ther other week, and initially I also ran into some little rolling while moving forward with the gimbal handheld.
Re-balancing and calibration lowered it a bit, but to what made me really happy.
The breakthrough came with replacing the Arca-Swiss-like mounting plate (the one to mount under the camera) that comes with the RS2 with a far wider Smallrig plate made for the RS2 with multiple screw holes and trenches. Then, put the cage on my camera (Lumix S1) and mounted the new plate to it with 2 instead of 1 screw.
Not only was the rolling wobble completely gone, furthermore it never happened again to me that the camera would swing around that one single mounting screw, completely debalancing the setup and swinging the lens away from the focus motor.
DJI did a terrific job with the gimbal, but with the 2 mounting plates for the camera they completely messed up.
Does this work with the zhiyun Crane 3s ?
Would you still suggest this setup in 2023 for a pro-sumer?
Neat setup 👍 Do you have any data on how many hours in one go this setup would be operable before having to replace the gimbal or v-mount battery?
I believe the V-mounts are good for all day shooting. I actually haven't run out of battery in a day shoot because I made sure my gimbal was properly balanced and therefore less battery juice taken. Did you end up picking up this rig?
@@thefilmalliance thanks for sharing that information. Not yet, project still in the planning phase.
Lovely
Thanks, have you picked the tilta float?
@@thefilmalliance to be honest I feel strange a gimble with electronic advancements and complications being sold less than clever metal bothers me...I do need it maybe I'll buy it it is the best implementation so far
How do you think this would work if you were running at full speed on uneven terrain? I shoot mountain biking and haven't found a great solution for chasing a fast bike with a gimbal to avoid shakey footage.
I think it would definitely help but if you rode a bike and held the camera with one hand, that would even be smoother
YES!
Haha thank you
Will this work with the ronin s
I love this idea, but I have a Ronin SC gimbal. Is there any way to tweak your setup to make it work with the SC? If so, count me in.
Hey there Garret, Im not sure I would trust a quarter mount screw to hod up your gimbal, and camera. Pretty scary if you ask me
Hello, the link for the v-mount battery is no longer working and was not sure exactly what battery would work for us. I have gotten the rest of the items on the list but the battery is the last hold out. Can you help guide me in the right direction?
Hi- Very great idea- However your link to V-Mount Battery is not going anywhere! Could you please specify the proper V mount battery? Thnx
Hi there, Sorry about that. I guess they sold out. Here is another one that is equivalent. amzn.to/3jb7YWB
@@thefilmalliance Thanks for your kind and quick response. I appreciate it.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching the video. How did you find it? Did you search UA-cam or did it pop up in your feed?
I bought TILTA FLOAT and I'm waiting the shipping right now. I hope it meets my expectations. I'm not sure if it was a good idea to buy it.
Please let me know!
good vid
Thanks, this was a fun one to make
Can I do that with weebill S Without any problem ?
Yes, I showed that in the video
Can i also build it with the feiyutech ak2000
I am not sure but Im thinking you can
hey from the other side of the world ( Cyprus :D ) . so i just get the whole set up and what can i sey is that even with ronin s there is way to put the whole thing together without the battery counterwaight. they provide you with the big screw as well . so the red king plate can get 1 small tripod screw and 1 big . so why to not just put it on the top and skip the whole part with the external battery ? anyway , i am very happy with the result :P ...
Hey Naizo, thank you for your feedback. I really like hearing what other people have to think. You seem like you know what you are talking about. Do you shoot professionally or as a hobby? Any video suggestions?
I am trying to transition to a cinematography at the moment and make it a full time job bro . I have done some commercials and some weddings but I really wanted this rig to work because of my back pain .
Ok so you are completely RIGHT bro ! I test the whole thing and i follow all the steps that you are suggesting. I had to buy the base as well because the screws are unscrewed after like a 20 minutes of use and IT IS unsafe without the base ! The rig itself i awesome. And whatever you say at this video it’s absolutely true . But i am searching for some1 to explain to me the arm part . I have done everything correctly and my rig is appropriately 7 kilos+ . I have changed the spring for heavier set ups but still i can’t find the balance for the arm because i seems that it need to be more loose.
Which do you prefer for slow-mo B-roll, 60fps or 120fps?
Probably 60, its less of a file size. How about you?
Has there been any update to your rig since this video? Thanks!
Hi there, no there has not. Although, I wish that it came lower below my hips because a lot of the weight goes on my shoulders.
How do you pull focus? Or do you just use autofocus?
I was using auto focus but I could have gotten a focus puller on the backside of the handle
I feel your pain. I too am trying to figure out how to achieve a locked down movement without cheating with slow motion or post stabilization.
Great vid. Steadicams are a necessity for solid production values. I am so tired of watching films made with shaky handheld cams which has been a fault written off as a feature ever since The Blair Witch Project. Yeah, it was part of the charm of the film. But man did I get dizzy watching Blair Witch in the theater. And this is why we are flooded with "found footage" films, because studios think audiences will tolerate it, and they do. So it shaves off the budget. You don't need a good cameraman when everything looks like it was filmed in the middle of an earthquake. Same goes for Cloverfield. They could have used some better camerawork. But again, it's the whole "found footage" excuse. And we see it in more straight-line films as well. It's ubiquitous. Having the gumption to put together a rig like this or settling for less is what separates the wheat from the chaff.
I got the same arm and vest, using it with ronin mx . It is terrible, you cannot walk and shoot there’s a lot of movement up and down.
Have you tried loosening the dampening screws on the arm? Theres a second pair of springs if your rig is to heavy. I find the more freely the arm moves the smoother my footage. Don't give up on it yet, keep on working at it. Its a life saver on those long shoots. There is a bit of practice but once you get it there's a very noticeable difference for me.
Is it really worth it if i make it from scratch and i don't have all this, is it worth the investment ?
I don't know, maybe updated parts now?
Too big for me, but I was too fascinated to stop watching! 😂
Haha Thats ok, the ZV1 will do just fine
i guess this is older video cause now they have one that the gimbal gets inside without your solution or am i missing something?
So what was the total cost? in USD?
I need this and am unable to make it on my own. Is it possible for you to make one for me and I pay for it, please?
Seriously?
Get a tilta float
