'I forgive you': Botham Jean's brother hugs Amber Guyger after she gets 10 years in prison

  • Amber Guyger got 10 years in prison Wednesday for murdering Botham Jean, a sentence that triggered chants of anger outside the courtroom and an unexpected moment of forgiveness inside.
    "If you truly are sorry," Botham's younger brother Brandt Jean told Guyger from the witness stand, "I know I can speak for myself, I forgive you."
    After a day of testimony focused on how long Guyger would spend in prison - the prosecution had asked for 28 years - Jean's teenage brother said in his victim-impact statement that he wished she didn't have to serve any time at all.
    Instead, he said, he wanted for Guyger what his older brother would have wanted.

      @@tigerofficial4606 yeah I'm well aware of that. I'm talking about his willingness to have so much grace for someone who committed such a massive slight against him by taking his family member too early.
      I've walked into the women's restroom before and thought to myself: "wow this is a weird way to set up a men's restroom, all stalls, really?" I cannot imagine walking into a unit I was convinced was my dwelling and seeing someone in there and freaking out like that. She obviously fucked up, she knew it, he knew it, and he showed her so much love and grace.
      I show less grace for situations far less egregious

    Young man, Jesus is so proud of you for declaring His love and forgiveness and not hate. You are a brilliant example for how restoration can happen in your nation of America, but it also filters in other nations around the world. I am from Australia. I am a fellow brother in Christ. I pray to that Amber receive Christ as her Lord and Saviour and Friend while she is spending ten years in prison. Some people may disagree with the ten year sentence, but she has already shown remorse. Your decision to give her a hug showed the love and forgiveness that Amber needs to be restored and healed of the error she made. Jesus said, "Never will I leave you and never will I forsake you". I'd encourage you to go and see her in prison and to help her in her restoration process. She needs it. God bless you and keep you and your family as you also go through this time of loss as well. Jesus is our healer as much as our redeemer. May His peace be with you and your family always. Love you brother.

      Her remorse and repentance is fantastic, but she should still go to jail. Forgiveness and repentance are wonderful and fantastic, but remorse, forgiveness, and repentance shouldn't be used to get out of the consequences of our actions.

      @JohnGodwin777 2 роки тому +2

      @trading paints an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth was the _limit_ of justice prescribed to the Jewish nation in the days before Christ. But Jesus Christ brought a new commandment:
      ““You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:38-42‬
      Jesus died to save the same people who put him to death, who hate him who hate his Father and hate his law, who bring evil into the world, who deserve the death penalty, including me and including you. We have all sinned against God.
      Contemplate how much you would have to love someone that killed your brother. What would it take for you to love so deeply and forgive so completely that you’d beg God to have mercy on your own murderer?
      Turn away from your hatred and seek the love of God, beg him to have mercy on you so that he might forgive your sins, take away your stony heart and give you a new one touched by the love of Christ and save you from the eternal death you deserve.

Have you ever seen the sentencing of Gary Ridgway, the serial killer who purposely killed? One of the victims' father forgave him in sentencing, and it was the first time it actually broke down the serial killer. Why? Because it was unexpected, to be forgiven, even when you feel you don't deserve it.

      @Wolfpack8706 Hate chains and inhibits progress. What Brandt Jean did also(ultimately) helped himself move on.
      A person can hate a killer all they want, but what's the result of all that hate? *Nothing.* The dead cannot come back to life and regardless of any punishment towards the killer is an act of selfishness (prioritizing one's own feelings). You cannot bring "justice" to a corpse.
      Instead, it is best to focus on what CAN be done to prevent something like this from ever happening again and I feel like Brandt can focus better in bringing meaning to his brother' death by making the world a better place.
      So go ahead and insult others for believing that what Brandt did was good. But in the end, I can certainly say that Brandt proved himself to be the better man.
      In "Meditations" (a diary/journal meant for himself), Marcus Aurelius writes, "the best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury."
      Brandt already took his revenge by acting with love and forgiveness, whereas Amber Guyger had acted with violence towards his brother.

    • @rehoboth_farm
      @rehoboth_farm 5 років тому +1

      @BOISE BLACK It does matter. In Kate Steinle's case the killer went completely free with no repercussions and showed no remorse at all. He was a felon, illegal alien waiving a stolen gun around in public who was in no fear for his life. Amber Guyger made a horrible mistake but didn't deliberately set out to hurt anyone. You can even hear her remorse in the 911 call from that very night made seconds after it happened. She was given a fair sentence. She also doesn't have seven felony conviction like García Zárate who had been deported five times. Amber Guyger seemed to any objective person watching to be honestly sorry for her actions not a grimacing hateful jerk like García Zárate who in my opinion would likely kill someone tomorrow if given opportunity. They let García Zárate off scot free. To my knowledge he has never even said that he was sorry for killing her.

    • @rehoboth_farm
      @rehoboth_farm 5 років тому

      @BOISE BLACK García Zárate threw the stolen gun in the water and ran away. Amber Guyger called 911 and at least attempted CPR. You don't see any difference between the two? Seriously?

    • @rehoboth_farm
      @rehoboth_farm 5 років тому

      @BOISE BLACK Molly Tibbets killing wasn't an accident of any kind. This was a man attacking and kidnapping a woman in the middle of the night while she was jogging, stabbing her to death and dumping her body in a corn field like a serial killer. To my knowledge Rivera has never expressed any remorse at all. In his confession that he is trying to have thrown out he says that he was bothering her while she was jogging and when she threatened to call the police he blacked out. Her blood was found in the trunk of her car. To the point of forgiveness her father is very angry that people keep pointing out that he is an illegal alien working in the US with fake or stolen documents. I'm not sure that really counts. I think he's just afraid of being called a racist. Sounds like a Democrat. Sounds like he's more concerned about politics than seeing justice for his daughter that was kidnapped and murdered in cold blood by someone who shouldn't have even been in our country.

Yes, a lot of the text were racist but she seemed to have been given a pass. A lot of Caucasian people are intimidated by big Black men. Botham's Mom had it right....why are they trained to aim for the heart? Then there is R. KELLY, THE CAUCASIAN AND

      EITHER DENOUNCED HIM OR WILL NOT SHOW SUPPORT FOR HIM. So many women or people have recycled false information about him without retribution. But it would appear we often retreat to our back doors, and protect the dominant culture. It appears, so many things became evident....from Botham's apartment being ransacked and torn apart to Amber being allowed to move and her apartment was not search for drugs, etc.
