    I use larger size clear adhesive wall hooks cantered on my quilting rulers as a handle. You can pick them up easily and the 😮hook part rests nicely in the webbing between your thumb and pointer finger to hold the ruler down on your fabric.

    All great ideas. Have to say that, so far, my favorite 2 are the dental floss container and the tweezers. I use tweezers a lot in sewing, but the way you tied the thread with them is going to be very helpful. Oh, and I really like the pipe cleaner tips also. All ideas are great though. So, thanks again for sharing them.

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you. Actually my favourite tweezers are the reverse grip ones. You squeeze to open and they stay closed when just holding them. I find this more user friendly especially when picking up beads and sequins

    These hacks are genius! I need to look for those dental floss threaders. I have a fancy metal filigree needle threader that I believe is actually scuffing the eye of my cross stitch needle. Hopefully these dental floss threaders will be gentler and will go through the eye of my needle.

    The dental floss you removed from the container can be used for sewing on buttons! Very strong!! Just sew once over with matching thread!! Painter’s tape useful for holding embroidery projects in the hoop, especially on the back. If you need stronger hold, use medical tape!!

  • @helencowen135

    My mum taught me to do 2 lines of stitching for gathering, makes it so much easier. 4:21 A recent hack I came across is to use dental floss for gathering instead of thread. Haven't tried it yet though. Love your videos. For pleats, use a kitchen fork

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  2 місяці тому

      Thank you, If you want perfectly even gathers, sew 3 rows of stitching and then gather. And if you have one of the rows beyond the sea allowance, the gathers will stay put and stay even when sewing your seam. You then can remove that row after completely the seam. The reason for this is that even if the gathers are all even, they can get pushed out of position when sewing the seams together. Also loosen your tension before sewing the rows. Have you tried using a gathering foot? Thanks for watching.

    I have another hack for tall thread spools. I use a paper towel holder. The shorter dowel is the perfect size for tall spools and the base of the holder keeps it secure on the table. I’ve only tried this with wooden towel holder, it might work with metal holders as well .
    Thank you for sharing the velvet board hack, GENIUS ❤

    Sometimes when machine sewing from a cone of thread, the thread will not stay in the thread guides on the machine. A cheap plastic drinking straw can be cut and taped to the machine to make thread guides (that the thread can't get itself out of). It also helps when you are sewing with twin needles and want extra thread guides for the other spool of thread.
