    Hint to take or leave it. Soak then wash your towels in vinegar to get sizing and chemicals out. This will make them absorbent. Also if they have been used and stop being absorbent do the same. Soaps and perfumes get traped in the fibers. The vinegar will strip these out. ❤️

      softeners (which I no longer use)really are the worst, they leave quite an impermeable residue, but some detergents have them built in, so avoid them. thanx for reminder.

      I never use fabric softener in my towels or pet bedding or washable piddle pads. Dogs will pee on anything with fabric softener( my Chihuahuas do).

      @@pjfoltz8810 If my dog only piddled on items with fabric softener I could handle that. But my bold dog thinks that any surface is suitable to pee on.😊

    I found that the rubbery non-skid drawer liner at the dollar store works great for lots of different uses! It stops the sewing machine & foot pedal from sliding around, it opens jars, keeps things from sliding or rolling off the counters, unrolling it for the length of your bathroom rugs and other scatter rugs,for personal safety & peace of mind! It has many more great uses, I'm still learning about!

    I count two aha moments in my sewing career since I picked it back up in 2015. As I struggled to mark dark fabrics, it hit me that I finally found a use for the white pencils in my colored pencil collection. Later, I picked up a tip that the slivers left from a bar of soap, with those thin, sharp edges, also work well to mark dark fabrics. Second - pizza boxes make great containers for squares as I wait to sew enough to combine in a quilt. My local pizza shops have no problem handing me an extra one if I ask if I can buy one in addition to the one holding my leftover pizza. Peace from Ohio …

    Any hardware store that has paint or carpet gear also has rotary blades. The Harbor Freight by me has a package of 2 blades and runs around $2. They also have 20% off coupons, online, all the time as well.
    Harbor Freight has so many sewing room gadgets it's too many to mention them all and their prices are fantastic. Order online or find a store. They even carry kitchen, bathroom, batteries, yard and so many other categories to organize it just make life easier. My friend goes for tools and so do I, hee hee hee. You won't ever be disappointed going there and prices are fantastic.

    Vinyl Table Cloth with the felt/flannel like back makes a great, cheap, easy, movable design wall. Add some grommets to an edge and use Command Hooks to hang it. Company coming over? No problem, just gently fold it up with your blocks on it and tuck it away. Bonus if you find one with a plaid or stripe on the vinyl side because you can usually see through the thin flannel and it can help you line up your blocks.

    I go to the Dollar store a lot for storage containers. I go before school year starts, cause that's when they have a lot of small storage containers for lunch boxes. They are great for tiny, or small items. Also for wall decorations to use as template shapes. They have wood shapes , metal hanging ones, that are great for appliqué shapes or pot holders. So many things that are definitely great for storing. Next time I go, I will go down thw hardware aisle for that container

    Putting a drop cloth on the floor in your sewing area is great if you have carpet - catches all the little strings, bits of fabric, and pins, then just use a lint roller to clean. Vacuum cleaners get bound up with thread and pins can damage tubing. Side note: drop cloths also make a nice bedspread that is resistant to puppy claws.

      I use a new toilet bowl brush to pick up threads around my longarm. I also have a magnetic “broom” that mechanics use to pick up screws, nuts and bolts, etc. The “broom” part is a magnetic bar about 12” x3” and fits on a handle like a broom.

    I JUST LOVE YOUR MOTTO: “GET YOUR SEW ON!” I’m going to put it on my machines and on the wall! I am nearly 76 and raising my late children’s’ children, which makes me even OLDER, ahem- too often l’m stuck in bed or in my chair and not getting done the things l have on my must do list and the things in my brain, heart and head that l WANT to do. I would much rather sew and quilt than do dishes, laundry, cooking -so of course there’s more dishes. “GET YOUR SEW ON” is a perfect motivator for where l’d like to be. We need the QUILTS, pj’s, school and work clothes l ought to be sewing. I Loved your video. Again, Thank You.

      I can really relate, not to the kids thank God but to the to the evergrowing to do and projects list. I am 80 and wish I could get clones to do all the things I want to do. Living on SS is a worry but I just bought a new Singer Quantum Stylist and it is such a joy to have an auto threader and auto cutter and to hear the click click of the needle in a new machine. Blessings to you for raising those babies! I can't imagine I can hardly get anything done with all of life's everyday chores!

    Sewing is a favourite hobby of mine so totally enjoyed this video. As to a $-store hack for all my pre-wounded bobbins; I use a clear pocket shoe organizer unit, secured to the wall that is located within arm's reach of my sewing machine and serger. Like their threads that are stored in clear plastic bins, they are divided/sorted by color family or specialty. (FTR I've been a sewer for 56 years.)
    P.S.: The shoe organizers also work well for various crafting supply storage. i.e.: Artist brushes, paint pens, glues etc.

    You can store wound bobbins in toe separators that are used for nail polish. The bobbin threads are contained between the toe separators and you can easily see the bobbins. I prewind bobbins with colours I use often and put similar coloured bobbins on one separator.

    My mom used to put tissue paper under the fabric for a stabilzer when she would do decorative stitches. It would be easier and probaly cheaper (Per sq. inch) than the adding machine tape. Also, I'm glad you added the warning about the frixion pens, I do love them but would never use them to mark for quilting. I knew of someone who shipped a quilt to a show for entry and when it was unwrapped at the show, the quilting lines marking lines where showing. If it's shipped and most likely flown in a cargo area, it WILL come back. Great show!

    I use a pipe cleaner to clean my machine of threads and shelf liner glued to the bottom of my sewing foot to keep it from sliding.
    I use the adding machine paper roll to sew scraps to then trim the width of the paper for scrap quilt borders, purse straps or just a touch of scrap somewhere. It comes in different widths. I tear the paper in generous lengths so I'm not working and dealing with the whole roll. I attach the strips, lining up the paper edge. Perfect way to just relax and sew and use up scraps. We all need mindless sewing once in awhile...

    A couple tips from a longarm quilter with very limited space. I organize my thread cones by color in the pouches of a clear vinyl, over the door shoe hanger, I hung mine on the outside where it's visible and easily accessible. I also hang my large ironing boards on the back side the closet doors, using metal (wreath) door hangers, they're out of the way and easy to get to. I have peg board under the wall cabinets above my (10') sewing station with bright under cabinet lighting. I store my serger, cover stitch, silhouette cutter's, etc. in there when not in use. They're protected from dust and accidents, it keeps my work space open and much tidier.

    I love the small craft mat for a smooth place to craft on! The squishy shelving stuff on a roll is good for the sewing

    • @ooohlaa13
      @ooohlaa13 Рік тому

      sounds great but what are the mechanics of chip clips and machine feet? would love to know, thanx

    • @peggydid
      @peggydid Рік тому +1

      @@ooohlaa13 The chip clips can handle more paper in a stack, as they are made to hold the top of a bag of chips rolled down. Clips from Dollar Tree hold a great thickness, but at a thin line. The multi-colored ones in a set of 6 from Wal*Mart, not quite as much thickness, but a good width along the edge, (maybe 2 milliliters, or 1/8 inch) so as not to make an indentation, if that would be a problem.
      The foot pedal that is a problem to move around, is the pedal on the floor that is pressed with your foot to make the machine sew. Sometimes it wants to slip away from you on the floor, so the soft shelf lining will give it a better cling to the floor, especially if the floor is a smooth surface. I like 3 or 4 thicknesses.

    If your sewing scissors are sacred like mine try placing a small padlock through the grips! No one can use them , just make sure you keep the key safe! Also look for an extendable magnet to pick up dropped pins, and sheets of foam board cut to specific sizes can make folding fabric much easier!

    Growing up, how many times did we hear, “Don’t use my sewing scissors!”
    Now I’m the one saying it.

    My Dollar Store sewing organizer tip is the (covered) shoe boxes. After I inherited my mom’s sewing room I had to figure out a way to organize all her THREADS.
    I now have 6 shoe boxes with thread sorted by color. The bobbins that I’ve created go in with its spool. 🧵 😊

      I keep bobbins and threads of the same color together also

    I love your humor. I do a lot of spraying starch or Best Press(homemade) and constantly pulling the trigger is a killer so I use a 48 oz. hand held pump sprayer for the starch/Best Press.

    You can rig up a plastic grocery bag to catch serger snips, by looping the handles over the back feet. The bag hangs down in front, and is easily replaced when it's full.
