Hi I currently working on a smd board, and I'm having problem with my usb type B mini, micro idk at this point. Anyway, the data pin of the female usb is too short to have a good coverage onto the pad, mind you the pin is on the pad but it is so short, my question is what type of soldering tip should I, like type B, D, I, so that: 1. I don't create a bridge in my soldering, 2. How small so that I can put the tip of it on the pin so when I drag it down vertically to the pin, there will be a solder bridge 1 pin to 1 pad not bridging horizontally, hope that make sense.

If the pin is too short and it isn't close enough to the pad to get any connection, I don't think you could reliably create a solder bridge from those 2 locations that lasts at all. If I'm understanding correctly, what I would do is jumper it with a small wire or I guess you could cut off a leg of another junk IC chip and attach it to both locations to extend it. That still might be a little janky though. If it's a really tight space, you may want to attach the "patch" part before installing the whole connector so you have more room to work beforehand. I'm assuming the connector is defective with it being short so another option is just buy another connector too. They are pretty cheap and then you don't need to do any patches or worry about how to solder it at all. Hopefully that helps, but good luck, I'm sure you can get it to work!

@@gamejaeger well the thing is the connector work, I manage to solder it but when look back, the pin feel like they don't have any solder on it, and the only way the pin connect I guess is because the solder flow and hit the tip top of the pin and not overflow and cover the whole pin leg like you would see when you solder normal smd ic. I asked because I want to resolder it but it seem like I better leave it be and not risk create an unsolvable bridge between pin.

Yeah, I would agree. If its working but just looks a little weird, then I'd leave it alone. You may cause more issues trying to get it looking better, especially if its in a tight spot too.
